I scheduled an appointment since I got vision insurance for the first time, and because I was having trouble seeing while driving in the dark. I felt like my eyes were being strained from constantly being in front of a computer screen. The appointment was very thorough and the doctor and other staff were friendly. I expressed my concerns for having air blown in my eye balls, and getting my pupils dilated. The doctor informed me that he didn't need to do the puff of air in my eyes because he had another way of testing the pressure. I was relieved. Once he put the eye drops in my eyes, he said I had about 15 minutes before things would start to get blurry. The woman at the front helped me look at frames and decide which ones I liked best. I tried on a bunch and decided between my top 3 favorites. I thought they had a good selection of designer frames. At this point my eyes got super blurry from the dilation drops when it was time to pay. I was so embarrassed because I couldn't see anything when I tried to hand the woman my health savings card. We then realized I never activated it. I felt so bad, but I had to ask her to read the numbers off of it for me to call to activate it. She helped ring me up and explained everything as I tried on glasses so there were no surprise charges. I was there for an hour and 15 minutes total, which was much longer than I expected. I had no idea what all an eye appointment entailed. It was very comfortable and clean. The doctor was patient and answered all of my questions. I chose this place based on Yelp reviews and distance to where I live. I can't wait to go pick my first pair of glasses in a few weeks!

I will say that making an appointment is super easy and they even have a telephone prompted call to remind you the day before. That is great service. The staff is also friendly and really helpful. The appointments go by quickly and there has never been a wait time. I like the idea that when I have an appointment it is kept, and kept at the time that I made it. The frames are interesting and always hip. The prices are ok. I will say that on the whole they are a bit more expensive than I would normally like to pay. But I will pay that much for some prescription sunglasses because I drive around so much. Another thing that I like about this Vision Care is that they will give me my prescription and pupilary distance without making a huge stink about it. I pay for my appointment and for my sunglasses so if I want to get glasses cheaper online they allow that. Some other places do not and that is what makes me continue to use Vision Care above anything else. Anyone in the neighborhood should get their eye care here. It is great. The service and staff are top notch. You cannot ask for much more.

Lastly, I have eye insurance that doesn't cover much and the optometrist wrote for an expensive medication instead of telling me there is a much cheaper identical equivalent of the benign medication that I should have been prescribed instead to begin with. I had to research myself to find out that the medications have the same mechanism of action but one costs much less. More importantly they should tell their patients about medication options instead of living in fear. Despite me taking the medication for years without doctor or insurance issue, the optometrist was too scared she'd get in trouble if she wrote for the less expensive medication. So I unfortunately ended up finding out this optometrist is against continuity of care out of fear that prescribing the less expensive med (which treats the exact same thing) wouldn't be covered as medically necessary and get her in trouble. Lesson learned, seen an ophthalmologist. People are terrified to prescribe the most innocuous medications these days. It's infuriating to have to hunt for confident prescribers. This is unfortunately not uncommon to find prescribers too scared to do their jobs, but it's completely unfounded and puts more work and cost on the patient.

Upon arrival, I was admitted late and it took 15 minutes to process paperwork. An additional 10-15 minutes were spent doing the routine machines, then I saw the doctor at 4:45pm. The exam was generally fine, but honestly, I don't want an explanation of every little thing - I don't have time for your flex. After confirming I can identify letters, I went back to have my other eye photographed. I was then prompted to try on new contacts to confirm they worked. Great. Then it was time to pay and I was slammed with a nearly $160 bill. $39 for photos (this was shared up front) and close to $110 for a contact fitting, which by the way, I was not truly informed about. I was simply sat down and told to try the contacts. I was flabbergasted and shared as much - Diana, the assistant, was absolutely smug. I asked why I was not informed of itemized expenses and she said I didn't ask. The glasses and contact prescription would not be released to me until I paid the contact fitting fee. I never had this fee at my last place, and I will absolutely be returning to my prior place despite the less than convenient location now. Never in my life, on my SAME insurance, have I ever paid $110 for a contact fitting. The fees and lack of transparency, combined with the poor bedside manner, gets a HUGE THUMBS DOWN. The doctor was fine and competent, but man, only go here if you want to shell out way more than you need to. You will be paying exorbitant costs for service you can get elsewhere for much less. Furthermore, I was told my issue was with insurance. No ma'am, my insurance puts X amount towards these components, you are responsible for charging outrageous fees. The glasses selection was mediocre, very safe, certainly no options that are fashion forward or bold. The office was clean except for one machine that had disgusting foundation from a prior client on the chin and head rests. This office touts their exceptional cleaning due to COVID. They were unable to print a receipt for payment and had to give me a written copy. Honestly, I rely on other professionals working in their field to deliver a reliable product. When I booked the appt as a new patient, the assistant should have provided pertinent information regarding their services. This is reasonable. I suggested she do this and she sarcastically said, "I'll make a list." I replied, "I think that's a great place to start." Why not just have a PDF of the services and fees and tell patients to call their insurance ahead of time to determine coverage. Learn from my headache and don't waste your time here. Oh! And considering I didn't get my eyes dilated, my appt was still over 1.5 hours!!!! Talk about inefficient and a waste of everyone's time!

I asked the woman who helping me purchase contacts if they had replacement nose pads, she said yes & said that she can put the new nose pad in. She took my sunglasses into the other room & while replacing the nose pad, slipped with the tool she was using, broke off part of the prong that holds the nose pad in & bent the wire part that connects the sunglasses to the nose pad holder. Since then, I've been back 2 times to have the wire part adjusted & told nothing can be done for the broken prong. Since the nose pad isn't held in securely, I asked if the sunglasses can be replaced. I was told no because they were not purchased there & the brand isn't in network. I said they weren't broken before that incident & she told me that they shouldn't have worked on them since they weren't purchased there. I get that but it's not my fault that the woman offered to change it out & broke them. Of course these are my prescription sunglasses, too. The doctors here are good but I am very unhappy with how this situation was handled. I don't think it's fair to punish the customer for the employee's mistake.

She talked me through some things that could help with wearing my contacts too long, etc. Also, while the glasses I chose were super expensive, I also really love them. It was a frame I had found nowhere else! As for the front office staff, definitely very friendly but very disorganized. When I was first contacted by Krista she had to get my husband's social and I gave that over the phone. Then she asked me again when it came appointment time; turns out she did not write it in the system. Thankfully I had it in a note on my phone. Not something you keep on hand! Secondly, I was charged for glasses before even being fitted for them. Lastly, it had been 2.5 weeks since I had my appointment and did not get a call that my glasses were ready. Sure enough I called the office and they had them....just didn't notify me. Returning here is up in the air for me. However, after receiving my glasses, I had to dock a star. What to expect of your eye exam and picking out your glasses is exceptional service and great attention to detail. The girls are so incredibly friendly and very happy to work there. The doctor was so real and down to earth, which I don't see that trait in many doctors these days. When picking out your frames, they are very honest and will tell you what looks good and what doesn't work. I loved that level of honesty and I found a pair that I thought would be the best pair of glasses I've ever gotten in my life. They not only fit great, but they also looked great. When I received my glasses, they didn't seem to fit the same way as when I originally tried them on. Bummer! When bringing them back for adjustments, it was then that the technicians gave me the reasons for why they didn't fit anymore and suddenly, they weren't as honest and friendly. Mind you, the same girl that helped me pick my frames also adjusted them when I came back. I almost sensed a level of "why did you pick these frames" attitude from her and that was frustrating, considering she was the one who sold me on them. Overall, I will probably come back, as the frame selection was decent with some nice, high-end, name brands.

No less than FOUR times during my eye exam, I CLEARLY stated that I use the classes for computer glasses (computer length). At NO point did I say distance, and I never wore bifocals. 4 times! There was no chance of mistake, and yet the prescription they handed was NOT for computer glasses, NOT for single vision, bifocals for distance - was that Rx even mine????? The glasses I like are from somewhere else ($80 vs. their $600 after insurance and I like the $80 ones better which they don't carry. The online place I purchased requires you to give them a correct Rx, and if you do not, no refunds. So guess what - I am out that money with a pair of glasses I can't see out of at ALL! Add to that the time it took to get the glasses only to be wrong, and then time until they could get me back in. Then I had to take MORE time off work for the visit. The Dr. saw HIS error right away and worked with me to get the correct script, listened to me state what he had done wrong and that I clearly stated computer glasses, and at NO POINT was I offered an apology. NO APOLOGY! So unprofessional. Of course they won't cover the money I lost because of HIS error - I may not be so furious had he just apologized for the mistake that he did admit was his. Maybe I have the right script now, after taking off work AGAIN to have to go in? I won't know until I get new glasses, and I am not risking it with the online other provider until I can feel confident that I was given the correct medical info / script - at this point I DO NOT trust what I have been given. I picked a pair at Gateway / Eyetique, grabbing a cheap and ugly pair that my insurance will cover. I had to do this for one specific purpose: I am left without confidence that my medical provider gave me correct care / correct prescription . I rely on medical professionals to be correct, and again .... 4 times! 4 times I said "I need these to be computer glasses". He pointed at his error and did not apologize. So now I have to wait 2 weeks for the ugly pair to come in from them before I can trust that the Rx is actually correct now. Then it will be another few weeks after I order the glasses I actually want elsewhere. I would say "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed", but that isn't true. I am very angry, and very disappointed on many levels. Paying attention to your client when he clearly states "computer glasses" no less than 4 times, then seeing your error after being told you wasted his time and money, and then NOT apologizing - that last one is really the kicker. That shows a lack of professionalism. I am finishing out this painful process, but I will have a difficult time justifying EVER going back there, and I will certainly not be recommending it. What I will be doing instead is actively letting EVERYONE I know about the chain of experiences I had there!

On the first day on which I was told I could expect the frames to be in-store with their lenses, I got a call asking if I would be satisfied with another color, perhaps green, although I had ordered gold frames. I asked for a full refund & an explanation of what occurred, instead. They told me that the frames were going out of production and that an Under Armour rep repossessed the frames that they had in-store. What I suspect actually happened is they just order frames off the grey web of resellers on behalf of their customers (adding 200$ to the price, for the "service"). Hence their inability to rely on their procurement process. I asked how I might track down another pair of those frames, they did supply me with a contact that seemed reasonable. The people there could not help me, much as I'm sure they couldn't help whatever receptionist or salesperson made the calls to try and procure the frames they had already sold me before they tried the honorable grey web - if indeed they ever did. I'd almost count this as a benefit, but the truth is the kind gesture of letting me get stonewalled by some megacorporation didn't really help me at all, it just wasted yet more time. Never happened before in my life. I've gone through a lot of frames, too. It felt remarkably like being scammed. If I wanted to buy something and never receive it, I'd just go to the grey web myself. By trying to get glasses here, I added 14 days of wearing broken glasses into my life, which has been some minor trouble.

She's made some really great improvements to the business too. I know she cares and has breathed some new energetic life into the business too. My eyes suck, they just do. So they're pretty tricky to work with and Dr. Pusz has always been very patient with me and my questions and concerns. I basically come in every time and say, I think I'm slowly going blind and she just reassures me that's not the case very calmly and I appreciate that. But if I do have valid concerns she will investigate the issue. She has sent me to some specialistists and done tests to just make sure everything is okay (which everything has) and I appreciate that care. The other thing I really like is their eyeglass selection. I definitely go for funkier glasses and while they absolutely have traditional frames, they have some really fun and funky glasses. One pro-tip too, if you like a pair of sunglasses frames, they can make those regular frames for you too! I've picked up some fun striped cateye Kate Spade glasses that are my absolute favorite I own. It takes a couple weeks to get them in, just a heads up. I will say it can take a while to get my contacts in. I get one-day disposable contacts and have a stigmatism. I'm not sure if these are a "special order" item or not. But it's taken up to 3 weeks to get them in and sometimes I don't think that far ahead to order more before I run out. So just be aware you will need to order contacts from them well ahead of when you think you'll be running out. The whole staff is very nice and it's easy to see why, it always comes from the top down. I'm so glad to have Dr. Pusz taking care of my eyes and I actually look forward to my visits to chit chat and catch up!
