I'm glad I waited to write this review as I initially was going to give Gateway Eye Associates a five star review for their exceptional customer service. However, after receiving my glasses, I had to dock a star. What to expect of your eye exam and picking out your glasses is exceptional service and great attention to detail. The girls are so incredibly friendly and very happy to work there. The doctor was so real and down to earth, which I don't see that trait in many doctors these days. When picking out your frames, they are very honest and will tell you what looks good and what doesn't work. I loved that level of honesty and I found a pair that I thought would be the best pair of glasses I've ever gotten in my life. They not only fit great, but they also looked great. When I received my glasses, they didn't seem to fit the same way as when I originally tried them on. Bummer! When bringing them back for adjustments, it was then that the technicians gave me the reasons for why they didn't fit anymore and suddenly, they weren't as honest and friendly. Mind you, the same girl that helped me pick my frames also adjusted them when I came back. I almost sensed a level of "why did you pick these frames" attitude from her and that was frustrating, considering she was the one who sold me on them. Overall, I will probably come back, as the frame selection was decent with some nice, high-end, name brands. read more

Gave me wrong Rx, used to buy glasses elsewhere that I now can't use due to it not being the correct Rx. Error acknowledged but NO apology from the Dr.. No less than FOUR times during my eye exam, I CLEARLY stated that I use the classes for computer glasses (computer length). At NO point did I say distance, and I never wore bifocals. 4 times! There was no chance of mistake, and yet the prescription they handed was NOT for computer glasses, NOT for single vision, bifocals for distance - was that Rx even mine????? The glasses I like are from somewhere else ($80 vs. their $600 after insurance and I like the $80 ones better which they don't carry. The online place I purchased requires you to give them a correct Rx, and if you do not, no refunds. So guess what - I am out that money with a pair of glasses I can't see out of at ALL! Add to that the time it took to get the glasses only to be wrong, and then time until they could get me back in. Then I had to take MORE time off work for the visit. The Dr. saw HIS error right away and worked with me to get the correct script, listened to me state what he had done wrong and that I clearly stated computer glasses, and at NO POINT was I offered an apology. NO APOLOGY! So unprofessional. Of course they won't cover the money I lost because of HIS error - I may not be so furious had he just apologized for the mistake that he did admit was his. Maybe I have the right script now, after taking off work AGAIN to have to go in? I won't know until I get new glasses, and I am not risking it with the online other provider until I can feel confident that I was given the correct medical info / script - at this point I DO NOT trust what I have been given. I picked a pair at Gateway / Eyetique, grabbing a cheap and ugly pair that my insurance will cover. I had to do this for one specific purpose: I am left without confidence that my medical provider gave me correct care / correct prescription . I rely on medical professionals to be correct, and again .... 4 times! 4 times I said "I need these to be computer glasses". He pointed at his error and did not apologize. So now I have to wait 2 weeks for the ugly pair to come in from them before I can trust that the Rx is actually correct now. Then it will be another few weeks after I order the glasses I actually want elsewhere. I would say "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed", but that isn't true. I am very angry, and very disappointed on many levels. Paying attention to your client when he clearly states "computer glasses" no less than 4 times, then seeing your error after being told you wasted his time and money, and then NOT apologizing - that last one is really the kicker. That shows a lack of professionalism. I am finishing out this painful process, but I will have a difficult time justifying EVER going back there, and I will certainly not be recommending it. What I will be doing instead is actively letting EVERYONE I know about the chain of experiences I had there! read more

this place went down hill since dr. clement left. and that merge was a bad idea. I came in a 4:06 for. 4pm appointment. which I left work early for. it was traffic ... they even called me and said it was traffic because of a baseball game. and tried to get me to come before 3. which I couldn't. and that lady at the front said I needed to be rescheduled. she was rude .. I been coming here since 2017. and my last 3-4 visits have not been pleasant. I'm sick of it read more

Don't go here. I had an appointment for 9:30. They told me to show up fifteen minutes early. I did. 9:30 came and went. I was literally the only customer in their showroom. At 9:45, I asked how much longer it would be. It was too long, and I had to be back at work by a certain time, so I told them I was leaving and did so. That would be enough for me to avoid a place and recommend that others do the same, as keeping the appointments you make is one of the basic hallmarks of a serious business. It didn't end there. The next weekend I went to a different optometrist. That optometrist was unable to help me, as these fools at Gateway Eye Associates had put a "prior authorization" on my insurance. I tried to call Gateway Eye Associates, but all on receives when calling them is an automated message directing one to their website. I ended up having to wait until Monday morning to call my insurance company and have them remove the hold. So, not only were they unable to help me, but they also prevented anyone else from helping me as well. Seriously: Don't go here. read more

Horrible service. I realized my hsa card expired. Asked if can send a bill. They have yet to and called me daily and keep changing the price. They have never apologized. I haven't got worse service at any time in my life read more

I went in for a contact lens exam and I am very happy with the exam. The staff were all friendly and courteous. They answered all the questions I had about my exam and the contacts. The doctor was also very nice. The office is very nice and newly remodeled. I have been there before and plan to return. read more

Lots of issues with this place. Their online scheduling is completely broken, and definitely do not try to contact them through email; you won't get a response. After many scheduling issues, I finally went in for a contacts lens exam. First, I explicitly stated that I did not want my pupils dilated. The doctor was really weird, a small Asian lady, didn't catch her name, with absolutely zero bedside manner. When she came in she immediately strong armed me into dilation. She also proceeded to lecture me on sleeping with my contacts in for about 10 minutes and then explained that, basically, the world is ending and all manner of eye problems were just lurking around the corner! I mean she really went to town! I've been wearing contacts since I was a teenager, never slept in them, never had a single problem. She forced me into changing brands for a trial pair, which they didn't have. They were completely uncomfortable. Ordered the brand I asked them too next, but only because I didn't go through her. Fit wonderfully! Then I had to leave the country for work. Fast forward to about 6 unanswered emails, and I go in to get a copy of my prescription. They say I need to pay for another exam! I understand the prescription is old at this point, but less than a year. I just cut my losses, I'd rather pay a more competent establishment. Be wary of this place! read more

Great docs but the service and selection is just so so. I once tried to order additional contacts and it took weeks. I finally just ordered them online. And their eye glass selection is ok. It looks like a large selection but in reality they're pretty typical in terms of styles. Again, love the docs but the rest of the eye wear experience is average to slightly above average. read more

It's a shame to leave one star - but after my experience with Dr Clement this week, I can't not. I'm a 30 y/o woman and I can say I've never been spoken to in such a rude, condescending way in a dr/patient meeting. Dr Clement insinuated I was wasting his time asking simple questions after he told me I have an ocular eye disease (who wouldn't have questions thinking it would be a 15 minute routine check up? Lol!). He did not listen to my questions well and was clearly impatient to leave my visit. He talked over me, providing erroneous analogies multiple times (I am sure he assumed my profession was poorly as he judged my outfit as soon as he entered referring to my "furry boots" and "lack of watch") so I had to repeat my questions to understand what he was diagnosing me with more than once. When he insinuated how much of his time I was wasting - I checked my wrist where I normally wear a watch, but today, I did not put it on - he remarked "ha - you're not even wearing a watch..acting like you're checking the time," insinuating, I am sure due to my casual dress - I surely had no where to go. I am a corporate banker and business owner, and am still shaking thinking about this appointment even two days later. I was supposed to receive an apology call from Dr Clement - but of course that never came. Hence, this poor review. Again - a shame to leave because the staff is lovely. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Mark Clement for almost 20 years. In that time, my family has grown from 1 to 6 people. My youngest is only 9yrs old now, but has been seen by Dr Mark since she was about 2yrs. Service and quality here are EXCEPTIONAL!! I have kept Dr Mark for my family's eye care needs even when I was living in Ohio and traveling over 100 miles to come in. The staff here is excellent, the doctors are fantastic, and the eyeware sold here is of great quality at a fair price. You will not find better eye care ANYWHERE in the Pittsburgh area!! read more

I have been going to this place for almost 7 years and the staff is OK, but the doctors are great . That's the only reason I come every year to this place. I had good and bad experiences with the staff throughout the years and the turnaround is high. The staff at Gateway made me feel like a customer at a used car lot. They are pushy about selecting expensive, unnecessary options and do not ask the customer which choices they want; they simply write it down and then bill you. I was told there would be a $30 charge for a digital retinal photograph, which I consented to. Other than that, I was not informed about which services were covered and which were not. I was not given clarity or any explanation of services which were added to my bill without asking me. For example, anti-glare and a lens warranty were added by the staff member automatically, so I had to actually stop them and object to individual services, which they then tried to convince me to get anyway. I felt uncomfortable and pressured into services that I was never told the cost of until I was paying the bill at the front desk. The cost was exorbitant, and I was not at all prepared based on my conversations with staff. It cost me over $500 (after my insurance coverage, which is quite good) to get my glasses and contacts updated. I am not planning to return to Gateway for any future visits, and I would never recommend it to others. read more

I had a lunch time appointment for noon. After my preliminary exam I was told that the doctor would be in shortly. I waited for nearly 30 minutes and finally went to the reception area where I was told that the doctor had an emergency. I would think that the staff would have the consideration to let me know. I left at 1:15 without having my examination completed because I had to get back to work. I requested a call to schedule the completion. The associate who did my preliminary exam seemed more interested in me selecting higher cost options that my well being. Bad first impression! read more
