First, when I called to make the appointment, they seemed to be very unorganized and unable to find my prescription on file after I gave it to them months ago. At my appointment, the staff was rude, especially the doctor. Dr. Fereydouni. She was quite cold and judgmental. I was told that I should have brought my contact lens box, but I was not aware of this. She then nearly yelled at me about not bringing it, though no one told me. She was unclear when answering my questions and overall had a rushed and entitled tone. The staff that helped me purchase my contacts was nice, but the doctor was very very very very rude. read more

I waited 3 months to be seen, and in this time they cancelled on me twice. First time was when the optometrist got sick, which was understandable, but second was when they suddenly realized they don't take my insurance. I would have been happy to pay out of pocket because it's been 3 month, and I need a prescription, but instead of contacting me they chose to cancel my appointment again. When I called, they said I would have to wait a fourth month to get back on the schedule. Needless to say I will be giving up on this clinic that I have gone to for 3 years and find somewhere else. read more

They rude and cold , never listen, ridiculous, and just talked about their personal life and small chats in front of patients. I don't need to hear that! PLS DONT GO HERE! I highly doubt the people here know what they are doing, they were very cold, one of the doctors examining my family members eye's was shining a light into them FOR WAYY TO LONG while dialated, to the point where they asked if it would burn their eyes - which they continuously did more than twice , very dissmissive, telling them that their eyesight was wayy worse than it actually was and wouldn't consider a problem being with their equipment which was very trashy (more than likely didnt know how to use it) and probably not cleaned , the worst part is that they told them that they needed to go to the hospital ASAP and could possibly have a heart attack or STROKE because of alleged swelling of one their eyes and supposed DANGEROUSLY HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE (which i would personally imagine they would be acting quite strange and not completely normal and coherent ) they delivered the news so nonchalantly and coldly ?? Which anyone would be very distraught when it comes to very SUDDEN AND RANDOM SERIOUS NEWS LIKE THAT. We went to the hospital and everything they said was not the case, so unless u want serious health scares and possibly have a heart attack from thinking u may go though something seriously detremental to ur health or deal with faulty equipment and people who clearly dont know how to check peoples eyes, this is NOT the place..Save yourself from a truamatic & painful experience. I will be posting this on yelp because i know this may be pushed under the rug/deleted and i refuse to have someone unsuspecting deal with this behavior and from the emotional damage this has cause us. Every time I closed my right eye it felt like there was sand in it. Not exactly a pleasant feeling, especially when it prevents you from sleeping! Its a recipe for one crabby lady. So, after going to Urgent Care, being told it was pink eye, despite the absence of all standard symptoms of it, and paying a $40 copay for unneeded antibiotic eye drops, I called UPMC Eye Center. I explained the urgency of my situation in a voice husky from 72 hours sans sleep, and they were able to get me in to see Dr. Drexler that afternoon! I miraculously found a parking spot in Oakland (this place is on Forbes a storefront or two down from the Starbucks on the corner of Atwood), and loaded up the parking meter with $257.50 worth of quarters to avoid getting a parking ticket. Inside, I found the waiting area small but clean and nice. There are rows of glasses on the walls, and they carried frames by everything from Tiffany & Co. to Juicy to Prada and Coach. There's a coffee/cappuccino station for patients near the reception, and a few magazines you can peruse while you're waiting. My appointment began promptly and the assistant who saw me before the doctor was great. She was personable and professional, and we went throughout the preliminary eye tests quickly. After a few more minutes, I went back to see Dr. Drexler and he was great. Very thorough, he listened to my multiple 'theories' about my eye problem, and he explained each part of the exam and why he chose the particular eye drops he prescribed (which were an $80 copay that I had to call 9 pharmacies to find, but that's not his fault). Overall, I've only had great experiences here, and I will be coming back for my eye care needs. :) read more

So,I went to get my eyes checked February 26,2021 my appointment was at 3:00I didn't get seen until 3:50,When I was finished wit my eye exam,I still needed to pick out glasses by that time it was 4:40,So now I have picked out glasses,Now mind you the glasses I picked out I still needed to pay $140.00 extra on top of my insurance however not a problem was told my glasses would be back in 2 weeks well 2weeks pass,So now I decide to to stop in because I had another appointment close by glasses still not in,Now that was 2 1/2 weeks later,So I waited still no call,So about almost a week later from that, I call they say oh there was a mess up on the prescription that they should be in mid middle the next week,So now I wait till the 26 of march cause that makes it a month so now I call again at this point I don't even want the glasses because now as of March 26, you are telling me they still haven't come in that it would be Monday or Tuesday,So at this point I say I don't want the glasses and I ask for a refund of my money,I am told I can not get a refund unless I have to get my eyes reexamined for a different script so I would have just take the glasses when they come in,So now I am irritated and conveniently there is no manager available and she is on vacation and they would have her reach out to me,So I know what that mean,Just wait on my glasses and be happy I"m even getting them,So with all this said I will not be returning,And I hope this helps who ever reads this,Good luck... read more

I thought that since this was part of UPMC it would be a better, more professional experience than, say, Lenscrafters. Wrong! Within three days of getting my new glasses, the lenses started getting small spots on them, which had nothing to do with anything I did. (I've had glasses for 35+ years -- I know what does and does not hurt lenses.) After doing a few online searches, I've discovered others who have had this same problem. Also, this was the most expensive pair of frames and lenses I've ever bought. I decided to splurge on them after several disappointing experiences at places like Lenscrafters and America's Best. As it turns out, they're the most expensive and cheapest made frames I've ever bought. Within a month, both nose pieces broke. I've never had this happen on any frames before. When I bought the frames, I made certain to tell them I needed to have all-titanium because of a skin allergy. I was told what they sold me was pure titanium, but after about a month the outer coating wore off, and the metal underneath was exposed, thus causing dermatological problems. All in all, I would never go back, and wouldn't advise anyone else to go, either, especially considering how expensive everything was, plus how quickly the lenses, nose pads, and frames themselves ALL deteriorated. read more

Disorganized, poor customer service, awkward doctor. Don't answer the phone after to address issues. Giving up and never returning.

Here is how my experience went: 1) Scheduled an appointment 2) Showed up on time for my appointment 3) Told I would probably have to wait at least an hour 4) Awkwardly stood around with others who are waiting because there's no seating 5) After 10 minutes said "screw this" to myself 6) Walked out and went to Chipotle. Little bit of backstory: I'm a 28 year old male, and I've been wearing glasses since I was 5 years old. I am horrifically nearsighted with a current lens prescription somewhere in the vicinity of -11. I had been interested for some time in LASIK or PRK for corrective surgery so I went to UPMC Eye Center for a consultation, as it came recommended to me by my primary eye physician. To be quite honest, the doctor that met with me was very professional and provided me with a lot of useful feedback about the state of my eyes after we tested to see if I was a candidate for Laser-based surgery. Unfortunately, I was not a typical LASIK or PRK candidate, as I didn't have enough corneal tissue for a full correction. Instead, she suggested ICL as the procedure of choice. After her explanation of what ICL would entail, I realized that she was absolutely correct. Laser Surgery would be too risky for my level of correction, and with no guarantee that I would not still be dependent on glasses, the risks of laser surgery outweighed the benefits. I explained that money was not an issue, and that I would like to be scheduled as soon as we could. She did explain that ICL was not a typical procedure they provided and that they would need to bring in a doctor to perform the surgery and that I should wait 90 days before calling to get everything started. I thought the timeframe a bit odd, but I could see the need for an outside doctor and fitting my needs into an already jam-packed schedule taking more time than a usual LASIK or PRK patient, so I complied. After 90 days, I attempted to call and see where we stood with getting myself scheduled for the next examination. My calls were never returned. Over the next few months, I continued to research ICL and became increasingly excited about the procedure and I made several attempts to call and get information about how I could go through with everything. The few times I did manage to get in touch with someone, they continued to tell me that they had no information and to try again in a month. After 6 months of chasing them around, they finally said that they would put me on a "list" of people interested in the procedure and would call me when a spot opened up. I never received a call from them. The initial appointment was in November 2011. By August 2012, I decided I was no longer waiting and took the helpful information I learned from UPMC to a specialist. I had an appointment to meet with them in September. After a series of appointments and pulling my records from UPMC over the course of a few weeks, the specialists sent me back to UPMC for a few tests. And it was only THEN that UPMC decided to call me back to tell me that they were interested in working with me and that they can do the procedure cheaper than what the specialists wanted. This is how UPMC Eye Center does business. They had a patient come in with very real needs, saw a young man, and made the assumption that he wasn't serious about achieving his childhood dream of proper vision. Only when they found out that I took matters into my own hands did they decide to try and save face by attempting to undercut the competition. This type of business practice is deplorable, dishonest, and - quite frankly - disgusting. The fact that a medical center is conducting themselves in this fashion makes everything about how they've treated me that much more frightening. UPMC Eye Center will not treat you as a patient. They will judge you and your ability to pay based solely on your age and how you look. If they don't feel as if you have money, they will ignore you. At least until they realize you DO have money. horrible service, all the sales personal are rude. I have been to this store 3 times and every time i get a poor service, they try to avoid you, hardly greet you. They get irritated for any question you ask and have no answer. The only reason i go here is because i have UPMC eye insurance. The selection is not great either. Only advice i have is show some respect to the customers. read more
