Dr. Scherer saved my eyesight. I was having too much pressure in my eyes and he was able to fix the problem. A couple of years later I had chateracts removed and lenses inserted. My sight is not a problem anymore, even at night. I found the rest of the staff friendly and helpful. read more

Had a 12pm appointment. Walked in and it looked like an ER waiting room with 20-30 people waiting. After I paid my copay I waited an hour to not been seen. I had to return to work so talked to the front desk and they were going to re-fund my co-pay. Never happened. Would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

1st appointment was a total disaster. I have epilepsy and my neurologist advised me not to get a dilation. I told Dr Chang that and he asked me several times to do it anyway. I said no and that should be it. Although I could read the smallest letters on the eye chart, he told me I definitely needed glasses/contacts, I have a clot in my eye, and needed to reconsider a dilated exam. He was incredibly rude and cut me off several times although asked me questions. Awful What ever happened to patient rights? I left there in tears and now I can't get another exam due to my insurance. He told me I had to come back in a few months, which I scheduled with a different doctor in his practice. I have had only good experiences with Chang Eye Group until I saw Dr. Brian Gaster, new optometrist, a few months ago. His prescription for my new eye glasses was so bad that I knew right away that I couldn't see correctly with them. However I was told to try them for two full weeks to get used to them. After a week I insisted on a lens check. Sure enough my new prescription was very different. I ended up getting new lenses. Dr. Gaster told me it was my fault for giving him the wrong information during my first exam. There is no way I could have been that off. I've been wearing glasses for 30 years and never had to get lenses remade. I do not recommend Dr. Gaster for eye exams. read more

An absolutely HORRIFIC experience. PATHETIC. Had a 10:00 am eye appointment and, after waiting an hour, finally left Chang's office without seeing the doctor. Main waiting room and sub-waiting rooms filled with patients waiting to be seen. The staff are professional but Dr. Chang is rude, dismissive, makes inappropriate comments and does not care enough to follow through with his guess at what is going on. I went to 2 other specialists - one being Everette and Eurite and they nailed what was causing my double vision and what I needed. And they followed up. Chang did not care one bit and never even gave me a prescription. As an Advanced Practice RN, I was shocked. I would not send anyone there. My review would be less than one star mainly due to his condescending rude comment and he knows what it was. My eye exam went smoothly until it came time for me to see Dr. Chang who I have seen since my cataract surgery. He has always treated me with respect but today he made fun of me & chastised me for my recall of my medical history. Dr. Chang cut me off several times telling me "at least you know now what went on with you." I will not be back to see Dr. Chang. Awful! My 84-year-old mother had an appointment for an eye exam. She uses a rollator and was slower than normal that day. We were 15 minutes late. They said they couldn't see her since she was more than 15 minutes late and we would have to reschedule. She has been going there for 20+ years. Can you imagine? Turning an elderly person away and telling them they will have to come back?? The guy at the desk said he would reschedule us...I said, 'no thank you.' Not sure they realize you can go anywhere for an eye exam. Dr. Cheng has also developed horrible bedside manners. We started going to Dr. Ngan a few years ago because was rude to my mother. RUN, DON'T WALK, AWAY FROM THIS PRACTICE IF YOU VALUE YOUR HIPPAA AND CIVIL RIGHTS!! I went to their office only because a my doctor from another practice had transferred there. As I was waiting at the desk to check in, I noted a sign stating 'masks are required unless exempted by a medical condition as recommended by the CDC'. I have a respiratory problem, and I was wearing a mask that I could breathe through. Chang came up to me and demanded that I change my mask because it was not acceptable at his practice. I pointed out the sign, and he angrily asked his front desk associates who had placed the sign there. They responded that mgmt had, and he told them to take it down. He then said that I had to change the mask or not be seen. I was very angry at this point, but did change it to another one. After having the initial history intake done, I went to sit in a waiting area. I was off in a corner, by myself, and I had the mask on but felt like my breathing was being affected, so my nose was showing. One of the mask police came over and insisted that I pull it up or leave. She left the area, but I could hear her discussing me with other staff (including doctors); they were making disparaging comments about me in the hallway. Other patients were around and they added in their 2-cents as well. I was finally allowed to go into a regular exam room. The doctor came in and instead of worrying about my eyes, he started in on the mask issue as well. He did not do the exam, but claimed he had to go out to do something while my eyes were dilated. I then overheard HIM talking in the hallway with other staff (and pts were still nearby and within hearing). He came back in, told me that he felt 'threatened' because I had used some choice words while in the waiting room. He informed me that he did not want me to come back. At that point, I called him and his staff and bunch of Nazi fascists who have no love for our country. I left and immediately filed complaints with the DOJ as well as my health insurance company, and the Dept of HHS re: a violation of my civil rights under HIPPAA as well as the First Amendment (freedom on speech). Of course, with the lack of justice that we currently have in our country, the ONLY thing that happened was that my money was refunded. Period. No censorship. No fines. No violations of civil rights filed. Blah blah blah. I say it again: RUN, DON'T WALK, AWAY FROM THIS PRACTICE IF YOU VALUE YOUR HIPPAA AND CIVIL RIGHTS!! read more

WOW! The owner of this center seriously needs to evaluate their front of office staff. One quick scroll through the google reviews affirmed me in my opinion that the women that work that desk are two of the rudest people in customer service. You can't get anyone on the phone and when you finally do you are treated like trash. The exam I received was incompetent and despite being previously told that there would be no fee due when I asked, I received a bill for these exceptionally substandard services that I immediately needed to have remedied elsewhere. The practice then spent months sending disputed bills without responding to inquiries about them. Moreover the billing coordinator is untenably rude and dismissive of any such concerns, but only once she actually responds to you, which could take weeks. This was the single worst eye exam experience I have ever had. Avoid this practice under any circumstances. read more

We have only been coming for 11 months. Seven members in our family. All but two wear glasses. Some members have insurance some don't so we pay cash. The insurance is from the county for medical reasons, not because of financial issues. Yet this place really has no bedside manner and treats you like you're not worthy given the insurance we may have. Mind you they had no problem with cash. I offered to pay cash for glasses rather than only be allowed certain frames and one person told us we only had to pay the difference where's as another lady told us she obviously didn't know what our insurance was and therefore we can only pick from a very small selection off in a corner away from everything else. Two family members have an eye disease and are in a study. Never had a copay for this then told we would have to start paying but to talk to the front desk about it. Front desk had no clue and said they'd call. No call. So I called and they had no clue. Showed up for regular eye exam, not the study. And was told we had to pay over $550 total for both members or we couldnt be seen for the regular is it, that insurance pays for. Then everyone else at the desk got involved, who had nothing to do with the issue. One girl shaking her head and rolling her neck saying we obviously don't want to listen to her. No i don't. We left because every time it's an issue with how we are treated. They offered financing... for what. I never said paying was an issue. I said I wanted to find out why we had to pay for an appt next month for this months insurance paid visit. From glasses to front desk this play has no bedside manner. read more

Chang Eye Group is quite good. I've been here several times, as have several members of my family. They have a large facility with good equipment. This translates into better eye care, I believe. I see Dr. Weatherly, and she is excellent. Not only is she very knowledgeable, pleasant, and professional, she takes enough time with me to answer my questions. During the eye exam itself, she is very patient as she works through the "better now, or now?" bits. Their eye-glass boutique is pretty large, but I've not purchased anything there, so I can't really comment. read more

Regrets! Cataract surgery was a success and my eyesight is worse than ever. i was never told there could be a choice of lens that would accommodate my lifestyle etc. Was told I might need readers and was ok with that. Told I should be happy to now have 20/20 distance vision. Great! but I lost intermediate vision, and near vision. I cant see anything closer than 7 feet. I now have to walk around with 3 different pairs of drugstore glasses taking them off and on like a circus act. I can't shop, cook or work and have constant headaches now. No option can make me lens for the intermediate and distance, no way to fix this. read more

I am an older person who is mobility challenged and was seen in the Green Tree office back in July, therefore my means of medical transport is the local paratransit here in Allegheny County. My first issue when I came in was that when I presented my referral for an OPHTHALMOLOGIST to the girl at the desk. I was informed that my appointment was NOT with an ophthalmologist but with an optometrist even though I had carefully specified that I needed an appointment with an ophthalmologist at the time of making my appointment. When I asked if they even had an ophthalmologist I was informed they do but that person was not in the office that day. She Kept my referral paperwork, (I assumed it was to go in my file) I had a 3 hour wait until my pickup time, therefore was stuck with twiddling my thumbs for 3 hours or letting them examine me. I chose the latter. There was extensive testing done. Most of which I was unfamiliar. No complaint there since my family has a history of macular degeneration and of retinal detachment. Except that during the testing the technicians talked down to me as if I was incapable of comprehending. As I was being taken to see the doctor after all the testing I let them know I wanted a printout of the results of my visit, before I left. I was informed that they do not give patients a copy, only the patient's physicians. Then I saw the doctor Proud who informed me that my 'nerve bundles' were anomalous. (apparently she thought I would understand nerve bundles better than retina) She also informed me that I had cataracts but there was no need for me to see an ophthalmologist. (problem is only an ophthalmologist can perform any needed surgeries on the eyes. Since an Optometrist is not a medical doctor) My complaint sadly does not end there. Due to multiple deaths in my family, it took me a couple of months to follow up. Neither my referring Neurologist nor my Primary Care physician received a copy from Chang eye group. Then to top it off I recently got a bill stating that they did not have correct information regarding my insurance, How is this possible considering they photocopied my insurance Card? read more

I went in because my daughters and I have a rare muscle syndrome. Dr. Chang had operated on me years ago and I wanted his advice as a second opinion as to what to do with my kids who have it. He didn't even sit down, he left the door opened, looked at my daughter for two seconds and literally said, "she's fine. She doesn't have it. You should take her to a pediatric clinic. Why are you even here? (I explained). I didn't operate on you. (Yes you did....etc) If you're so curious, go to the hospital. You expect me to remember your surgery? I operate on older people now." He tried to undiagnose me and my daughter as he moved toward the doorway raising his voice and being very short with me. The tech said, "It says here in her chart she has it sir" to which he responded, "well I don't see it." I said, "That's what happened with me. It was barely noticeable and then it got really bad, I wanted to prevent it. Is there something we can do?" "No. It's genetics (duh!). Go to a pediatric optometrist." And left. This office claims to take people ages 6 and up. I had called ahead with my situation. I waited in a crowded waiting room during covid-19 for an hour and a half to get this treatment. When I left, I was nearly in tears, the woman who had witnessed it kindly asked if I needed anything from her and I told her no and it was a complete waste of my time. He has zero bedside manner. I couldn't believe how he spoke to me in front of my children. Do not go to him, do not take your elderly mother or father. He does not respect people or listen to them. I recently had cataract eye surgery on my right eye and a week later on my left eye. The surgery went well and the clarity of my vision is greatly improved. However I was led to believe that nighttime headlight glare would cease but this did not happen. Also I was not given either verbally or in writing any information to prepare me to choose either a near-vision lens or a far-vision lens. Starting with the first surgery, I experienced 12 days of dizziness. And the antibiotic eye drop prescription made me so unwell with frequent belching that I was unable to do my house chores for 14 days. I did call the office to report my ailments. I was told to contact my doctor and was given no other help or information. The prescribed eye drop bottles contained many more drops than stated on the label so I ended up paying for the unused over-prescribed bottles. read more

I have been going here for years but apparently they are now interested in charging more. I am not disputing the quality of care but having you come in multiple times for something other providers will do in one visit is time consuming and expensive. I went in for a diagnostic exam and new eye glass prescription. I can understand having to come back for a contact fitting but when I was told I had to come back in again for a new prescription seems ridiculous. I don't have the time to spend another hour half to two hours for something that in the past they did in one visit. I won't be back. read more

Allow about 90 min to 2 hours for a vision exam. I'm a regular customer so I plan for it. Not many mirrors and none full length to try on new frames. Do some research on what types of lenses or features you may want. There are many options and the sales staff generally just give you what you had before so you might miss out on newer lenses or treatments. They don't use any measuring devices other than a marker and ruler. I saw there are some eyeglass stores that actually take your picture on a monitor so you can put your prescription glasses on and see yourself. It's hard to pick new frames when you can't see yourself without your glasses on. This place does not offer that service. I've always liked the doctors here and will continue to go for continuity of care. The frame selection is adequate. read more

I was looking for a place to buy glasses. I tried several times to go the location in Peters Township. However, every time I stopped they were closed. The hours on the website indicated they were open until 5:00. When I arrived at 4:30 they were closed. They are also closed on Wednesday. But on a good note I did finally get in and everyone was very nice. I did not need a eye exam just new glasses. The lady who helped me was wonderful she gave me her expert opinion which truly helped. I was selecting the wrong styles they were not the proper size for my face. She quickly steered me in the right direction. I found several great pairs to choose from. They have enough of a selection that you don't get overwhelmed. The process was quite fast. My glasses should be ready in 2-weeks. read more

I've come here twice, and both times there was a long wait, for a routine appt scheduled more than one month in advance. Last time I actually saw the doctor I hour and 5 minutes after my scheduled appt time. Then waited in the waiting room for 35 minutes after being given the dilation drops (I don't believe it takes that long for the drops to work, but I'm no expert.) The optometrist was nice, and seemed to be thorough, although hurried. The selection of glasses is pretty big, however, and the staff handling the ordering, sizing, and fitting were helpful and professional, and there was only a short wait to see them, and they are happy to make adjustments if you just stop in with no appointment. I can't say much about prices because I have very specific lens requirements which are very expensive anywhere. Frame prices seem comparable to other places. I will probably try to find somewhere new, only because I just don't want to pay a babysitter for 4 hours to get a new pair of glasses. Too bad they can't just get their scheduling right. read more

I became a new patient after having taken my elderly friend to this office in Greentree several times. I had no problems, but encountered something odd when I took this friend to an appt. a couple months ago. When she was called by the technician when it was her turn, I got out of my chair to help her (she's 89 and needs help walking). I looked at the tech and mentioned that she (my friend) would need help getting to the exam room. The tech said: "That's fine, but if she (my friend) doesn't know you, I'm going to have to fill out a LOT of extra paperwork." What the hell was that supposed to mean? The woman was middle-aged, short brown hair, plump, and rather condescending. As they walked down the hall, I heard the tech ask my friend (loudly) "How do you know THAT woman? Are you sure you know her?" My friend told me the tech then proceeded to bad-mouth me in the exam room. I don't know her from anywhere, but there she was, a stranger, criticizing and insulting me to my good friend, who was also puzzled by this bizarre behavior. I can only hope this was a case of mistaken identity, but it was definitely rude for a staff member of the Chang Eye Group to be so unprofessional. I don't believe that I will go back to this office. The doctor found a serious medical problem with my eyes that I hadn't known about, so I wanted to keep my next upcoming appt. I believe that I will find another doctor. They should be ashamed to have this person on staff. (Gee....I do hope she was able to get all that mysterious extra paperwork done!) read more

I really do love Dr. Chang however every time I go I have to spend so much time there .. At least 2 hours waiting .. But My major complaint is BILLING ! You can never speak to anyone .. Sometimes they call you back (so you can pay your bill ) My last experience was to find out how much a procedure was going to cost .. After being spoken to very rudely I was advised that it would be $400. An eye ! I was charged $500. An eye ???? Guess what I am still waiting for my call back after leaving messages !
