*Update at bottom of review* My first appointment here was in early October, and it was just a routine visit---I wanted an eye exam so I could have an updated prescription for new contacts and glasses. I have been very nearsighted my entire life (in glasses since I was eight), so I know the drill. We had a fine exam and everyone was very polite and friendly, and Jenny helped me try on several frames until I found a pair I really liked. When I left that day, I was looking forward to receiving my new glasses. About a week later, I got the call that my glasses were in. I came by the store, tried them on, and it felt like I was in a fishbowl. As I said, I've been wearing glasses and contacts for years, so I could tell something wasn't right. I said things looked way off, but I was told I "just needed some time to adjust" to them. I took the glasses home and tried to wear them for a few days but couldn't because they made me nauseated and gave me a headache. I took the glasses back. As it turns out, my ocular center (where the prescription is placed in the lens based on where my eye looks out through them) was completely off. Also, the angle of the glasses was off, so they weren't sitting square on my face. They sent the glasses off to have them adjusted and remade. About a week later, I got the second call that my glasses were in. I tried them on again, and things were less like a fishbowl but still didn't seem right. I was told again that I "just needed to adjust" so I took them home again and tried to wear them for a few more days. They still gave me a headache and made me nauseated, and still weren't sitting squarely on my face, so I took them back again. This time, Dr. Knouff saw me again. She essentially redid my eye exam and discovered that she had a blatantly wrong prescription in my left lens. She tried to explain it, saying "We have to do this a lot with patients who are as nearsighted as you, just because their eyes are so sensitive to any little changes in the prescription." (For the record, my prescription is around a -8 in my right eye and similar in my left eye, but with an astigmatism.) I answered the standard "one or two" questions to find a better prescription, and my glasses were sent off to be remade again. About a week later, I got the third call that my glasses were in. I tried them on and felt like the prescription was really close, but the frames still weren't sitting square on my face. There was another pair of the same frames that did sit square, so Dr. Knouff wanted to use my lenses in those frames. She couldn't change the lenses herself, though, and asked me to come back after Thanksgiving when Jenny would be back. I left without my glasses. After Thanksgiving, I came back for the fourth time to pick up my glasses. I tried them on again and this time the frames were square and I was able to drive in them. I was really optimistic until I got home and tried to read a book---they still felt way overcorrected for anything I tried to look at near myself. Still, I thought maybe I just needed to give it more time, so I wore them to the office the next day. I work on a computer, and I had to change into my contacts after about an hour because I had such an awful headache from looking at the screen through my glasses. I just can't wear them. When I called back to say that somehow the prescription still wasn't working, I was told that "The only option would be to go back to the prescription in your old glasses." I asked for a refund, since I don't really feel confident in their ability to fix it on their fifth try, and was told, "Well, we were charged each time we had to remake the glasses, so we didn't make any money on this anyway. A refund is impossible." I asked if there was any way I could get more contacts instead, since I used up my insurance benefits on this pair of glasses and will run out of contacts in five more months. I was told that they would check on additional contacts for me. That was ten days ago (Dec 19) and I have yet to hear back. I am frustrated and feel stuck, because I would have to pay full price for a new eye exam elsewhere, but I have ample evidence that this place can't get my prescription right even after essentially two exams. ***Update: January 8, 2015 - Dr. Knouff did call me back to address this issue with me and try one more time to get me into glasses that work. She offered to put my current glasses prescription into my new frames and provide the additional contacts I requested. When I went in last night to pick up my extra contacts and the new frames, she checked my vision in the new pair to make sure they would work. They finally feel like the right power (not overcorrected) and I felt satisfied and thankful for her persistence in working to get the right prescription. She then insisted on giving me a refund since it had taken so much time to get the prescription right. So despite some struggle, I have what I need now. Thanks Dr. Knouff! read more

Dr. Nguyen is terrific in every way. But since I notice another reviewer had a similar issue recently, I feel I have to mention that I was frustrated when I showed up for my last appointment and was told they didn't have me down for one. Instead of apologizing for her error, the receptionist blamed it on a "glitch" and said they would try to squeeze me in but could not estimate when that would be. It was a different staff member from last year, when I had multiple appointments with no trouble at all. This is the only negative thing I can say about Eyeclectic. If your appointment is entered properly, you will have an excellent experience. read more

Like many people, going to get your eyes checked is not at the top of the list of things to do on a weekend. However, I had a really incredible experience at Eyeclectic. The staff is friendly, and the optometrist (I believe her name is Dr. Knouff) was incredibly friendly and professional. She immediately put me at ease. I didn't think it was possible to make an eye appointment enjoyable, but they seemed to have done it. One other thing I really enjoyed about Eyeclectic is the boutique shopping feel. Most of the selection you find here is brand name, but not the stuff you'll see 1,000 other people wearing as you walk around Atlanta. There are a lot of really unique pieces, and the prices seemed to be very competitive. Definitely a high recommendation if you are looking for a great optometrist and nice eyewear boutique. read more

I can't say enough about how amazing my experience was with Eyeclectic. Dr. Andrea Knouff and her staff are top notch pros! Ascetically and professionally. The gear is also amazing and highly accurate - felt like I was on the Starship Enterprise! I was horribly miss-treated at America's Best in the Howell Mill shopping center. As a collector of prescription glasses for 15 years now, I have been to many optical shops all over the US and even globally, but no place has ever impressed me like Eyeclectic Vision Source. From the customer service to the quality of work. David Martin is the main Optician I worked with who is incredibly wonderful. I have brought in several frames that multiple places turned down to fill with new prescription lenses but not David! Not only is he a master craftsman of his field but he also brings passion into his work by his attention to detail and communicating effectively. He outshines opticians by a "Lens-slide". Tim Van Splunter tightened up a pair of my glasses perfectly with great care. I highly recommend this place and will now switch over to here for my primary eye doctor because of it. I always leave this place smiling and in good spirits as they really treat you like royalty. Made an appointment as a new patient two days ago. Confirmation email and text had the wrong time. Called in to rectify and my correct appointment time had been scheduled to someone else. I stated I was undergoing a medical emergency and no other offers or suggestion made. Called another optometrist who initially stated they didn't have any appointments, but inquired further about my emergency and worked me in for tomorrow morning. Staff here did not even inquire further when I stated I was having significant recent changes to my vision and eye. No thank you. read more

I completed my first appointment at Eyeclectic Vision Source today and I am very satisfied with the care and service provided by Dr. Minty Nguyen and her staff. The office is clean, bright, and tucked away in a shopping center off of Howell Mill Rd. I was greeted right away by the friendly, professional staff, and the receptionist Ashley was kind enough to go the extra mile to locate my correct insurance information. Ashley, the medical assistant also did a great job with prepping me and putting at ease before my eye exam with Dr. Minty. Dr. Minty is very thorough and she has an excellent bed side manner. She took the time to answer all of my questions and she discussed very helpful preventive care maintenance that will help to keep my eyes healthy! I've been going to Eyeclectic since they opened several years ago, and have always enjoyed my face-to-face interactions -- the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. That's why I'm mystified that this is the second time they have not responded to a call from my pharmacist and a followup message from me (thru their online portal), to renew my prescription for dry eye treatment. If the prescription should not be renewed for some reason unknown to me, why not tell me? I am desperately time-starved like many other people, and I don't think we should have to take the time to beg health care professionals, chasing them down with repeated pleas, to help us keep healthy. I can't say enough great things about this optometrist. Everyone working there is very courteous and professional. Dr. Knouff was very thorough in her exam and explained everything she was doing in a way that was easy to understand. I ended up getting an eye infection while testing out a new brand of contact lenses. They were able to see me quickly, on short notice. Since I didn't have any glasses I had to buy a pair, they were able to have them ready the next day and the cost was very affordable. I have recommended them to many friends and family members. My initial visit with Eyecletic was fantastic, especially since I was transferring from a Dr who wasn't very good. They have the latest high-tech equipment. The upselling is getting crazier though. It felt like 10 mins of exam, and twice as much of upselling, after waiting a long time for the Dr to arrive in the room. It's done nicely but still too much. I may have to look for a new Dr but maybe they are all the same. read more

The. Best. I have been wearing glasses all my life. Never have I had anyone show me the reason they are shining bright light and blowing air in my eyes. The technician always gives a simple, "This test is to check for X and this test is to check for Y." Then the doctor looks at the little screen once I get in the exam room and says everything is fine. They show me some letters and don't seem too bothered by the fact that I am stressed out about not seeing a difference between 1 or 2, 3 or 4. When Dr Knoff sat down to look at my images, she asked me did I want to see the screen and then explained everything she was looking at. She cared when I was not seeing a big difference between 1 or 2 and patiently flipped back to give me a chance to compare. And when I left, I was not wondering whether or not I was really getting the most accurate prescription for my vision. Dr Knoff is thoughtful and kind. I hope she stays in Atlanta forever. read more

I had a perfect experience at my eye exam today! The young lady who scheduled me over the phone (and also checked me in) I think her name was Lindakay, was extremely sweet and personable. I felt welcomed as soon as I walked into the door! She chatted with me and had the cutest frames on! The check in process was seamless as I completed my new patient forms online. Once I was pulled back the assistant was very gentle and thorough (can't remember her name sorry!) My Pre test was done quickly and I feel she prepped the doctor well. I had the pleasure of being seen by Minty Nguyen, OD. She was awesome! Very smart and great bedside manner! She explained everything on a level I could understand and I felt educated when I left the exam room. She even came out to help me look for a new pair of frames! I wasn't able to decide on frames that day but with the help of Dr. Minty and the other gentleman who checked me out (his name slips me mind also) I have some great contenders. I went to Eyeclectic because my old optometrist moved and it's very close to home. I liked the doctor and the assistant that did the testing. However, it took over 2 weeks to get my glasses. I used my vision insurance, kept the same frames and paid $400+ for the exam and lenses. They never called to tell me the glasses were ready. I called after a week (I was told it would take a week) and was told they didn't even have the lenses back yet. I called a week later (the day it snowed) and the tech told me they'd be ready in a couple hours but they might close early. He also said he had been out sick. They only have one tech? They did close early but were going to open at 12 on Saturday. I went there at 1 and they were closed. I called and got voicemail. I asked them to call me Monday to tell me if the glasses were ready so I could pick them up. They still didn't call. I called again on Tuesday. The glasses were ready and they were fine. But, they didn't even give me a new case! I had to ask for one. I don't think I'll go back. read more

First went because it is close to my home, will keep going because of the service. One mistake I mad was getting the dilation that is included in my insurance. I've never felt moved to post on Yelp before, or leave any other commentary on the interwebs. But my experience at Eyeclectic was such that I felt moved to break my mold, and share my experience. The in-store experience was pretty normal as far as eye examinations go. I've worn some form of corrective eye-wear since i was 8 years old, and now being in my mid 30's, have had much experience in the eye-wear arena. Upon competing my first appointment there, I placed a years supply order of contact lenses, choosing to go with an alternative brand that I hadn't worn before. Eyeclectic provided 10 days worth of trial lenses for me to test, and upon completing the trial and having no issues, i obliged the alternative brand. After a few more weeks of wear, I began to notice subtle variations in my vision. Blurriness, oscillating from eye to eye, lens drift, and a bit of a headache. Upon describing the symptoms to the technician, Linda K, at Eyeclectic, she suggested that I try a stronger lens for a few days to see if it resolved things. This alternate brand was made from a different material, and perhaps "wore" a bit differently than my previous brand of lenses. So I agreed and tried out the different prescription... Still no luck as the issues continued. Upon informing Eyeclectic, Linda happily ordered trials of my old brand of lenses, took in the remainder of the years supply of the alternative lenses i'd ordered ( 11 months worth now), and filled the years supply order with my original lenses. Doesn't seem like much, just good overall customer service;but to be honest, good customer service is harder and harder to come by, particularly in the corrective vision realm. Large franchise vision stores now run the market, and getting good service (vs. good sales) seems to be growing fewer and farther between. I appreciate the independently owned business model that is Eyeclectic, and can say that they've just earned my business for as long as they want it. read more

I visited Dr. Knouff on Thursday, January 23 and I must say that I was very satisfied. Before visiting Eyeclectic, the first two things that caught my eyes were their business hours, most evenings I'm stuck at work until 6 p.m. or later in some cases, and the convenient location, my job is only about 6 or 7 minutes from Howell Mill. Also, the fact that they have the new patient forms located on their website helps out a lot, especially when you're crunched for time. Jenni (I hope I spelled that correctly) and Dr. Knouff have very warm personalities. My contact exam and fitting took less than an hour from start to finish. Dr. Knouff is very informative, patient, and knowledgeable and it also helps that she has a lot of cool gadgets. Overall, my experience at Eyeclectic was a great one and hopefully it's here to stay. If you're looking for contacts, eyeglasses, or a new optometrist, give Eyeclectic a try, I promise, you won't be disappointed. read more

Dr. Knouff and Jenny were knowledgeable and friendly and I was just downright comfortable there. Dr. Knouff was thorough with my exam, and explained things clearly. They have a great selection of eyewear, and they were very accommodating to my scheduling needs as well as my insurance guidelines. I saw a few people come in just to ask them to fix the lenses on their sunglasses, etc. and they helped them right away. I think they'll do very well here, so I'm sure the convenient scheduling and walk-in practices won't last long but I bet they'll do their best to continue to accommodate. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Knouff and her staff. Dr. Knouff gave me the most thorough eye exam I have ever had and took the time to explain what she was doing and why. When I raised an issue with my existing brand of contact lenses, she offered several possible solutions and had me come in for a complementary follow-up session to make sure that the solution we selected was working for me. Although I was only in the market for contact lens, they had a wide selection of great looking frames so I will definitely be heading back when I need glasses. I should also point out that, unlike a lot of places I have been where the sales clerks try to pressure you into buying glasses when you only want contacts, there was none of that here. From the conveniently located, spa-like office space, to the Saturday hours and online patient forms, Eyeclectic is all about customer service. I plan to be a customer for life. read more

I visited Eyeclectic for the first time about a month ago. The staff is PHENOMENAL. I think I spoke with Jenny to set up my appointment, which was a breeze. They even sent a text reminder! I got to my appointment, filled out my paperwork and met with Dr. Knouff very soon after. They have top of the line technology and equipment, and Dr. Knouff explained each procedure to make sure I always knew what was going on. She doesn't rush through anything and is very knowledgeable. After I had my eyes dilated, I walked back out to try some frames (I tried on almost every one)...and her staff was right there with me suggesting and giving feedback when I asked what looked the best. I took my pick and had my glasses 2 days later. Apparently my insurance uses a lab that takes forever, so her staff allowed me to use a different one for the same price to get my glasses here earlier - this was without me even having to ask!
