Laugh all you want, but that bear definitely helped me with my anxiety about the surgery.
Vince D.

It's been a year now since I've gotten LASIK from Dr. Tan and I'm glad I got it! Last year was a struggle, as I'm sure it was for everyone, and I had already scheduled a week off where I was supposed to go on vacation and obviously that didn't pan out. So I decided, why not get that eye surgery I always wanted and use that week to recover. Plus after a couple of months of foggy glasses I was fed up with glasses at that point. For me personally, contacts never really worked for me because my eyes would always become bloodshot after a few hours. I made an appointment with Dr. Tan's office for a consultation. Even tho his office is near Stonestown, they had me go down to Union Square for the consultation. The staff was very nice and they took my temperature so they took COVID seriously which I appreciated. Dr. Tan had told me all the risks and benefits of getting LASIK and he said I was a good candidate for it, so I went for it. The day of the surgery took less than an hour. It was surprisingly fast, and I was fully conscious for all of it. It is slightly freaky having surgery while you're awake, but Dr. Tan eased my worries and was great at directing me on what to do. Like I had said before I had taken the week off from work to recover, but little did I know that the recovery is basically only a day, you're not even blind when you come out of the surgery. But they do require someone to drive you home after as I'm sure that's a liability issue. They do end up giving you these lenses to tape over your eyes while you sleep, which is fine, because I know I can't be trusted. They also give you a lot of papers with great information on how long to take each medicine for, but whenever I had a question, Eyecare associates were great at answering my questions. I was a little worried about my new eyesight because of the brightness of some lights at night, but eventually after time that was reduced. I don't believe it's completely gone, but after a while you forget what it used to look like anyway and get to focus on how great it is to see things without fumbling with your glasses. I wish I had gotten the surgery way before, I'm so happy with the results. Thank you Dr. Tan and associates! I'd give y'all 20/20 if I could (sorry for the terrible eyesight joke)

"WHOA, this looks like a walker parking lot." -Receptionist, Eyecare Associates of San Francisco Come Thursday morning, I woke up with an inflamed eye. I went to work in my glasses (I'm a contact lens wearer) and have everyone asking me, "What's up with the glasses?" I tell them I might have pink eye and all the responses were, "What did he/your bf do to you?" Unfortunately, my "bf" is a 10lb hairy, toxic gas emitting pomeranian that wakes me up every morning with his truck driver snore. I couldn't get an appointment with my primary physician or my regular opthamologist so I was given a referral to Dr. Solomon Gelbart at Eyecare Associates of San Francisco. I was relieved when they were able to give me a same day 4:15 PM appointment. However, everything went downhill from there. Upon my arrival, I walked in to what I thought was an AARP Convention. Every patient had walkers with tennis ball stoppers and/or canes and were slouched over the seat snoring. I thought maybe my coke goggles led me to the wrong office, so I went outside to double check the Suite number. Suite #448 it was. Timeline of Events: 4:07 PM: Arrived at reception desk. 4:16 PM: Finally, got acknowledged and given new patient forms to fill-out. 4:20 PM: ZzZzZzZ *crows feet start forming* 5:18 PM: The receptionist asked for my medical history (shouldn't that be in the new patient forms?). 5:22 PM: My name is called and I scream to myself like I've just won the lottery, "YES!". 5:34 PM: After an eye exam, I was told, "You may go back to the waiting room now and the Dr. will see you soon". (WTH?!?! You mean, you aren't the Dr.?!?!? #*@&) 5:35 PM: ZzZzZz *white hairs start sprouting* 6:00 PM: My name is called again and I go to the back. 6:01 PM: ZzZzZz *turkey neck starts sagging* 6:14 PM: Dr. Gelbart walks in. 6:20 PM: I leave the office. Although Dr. Gelbart apologized for the wait, a 2 hour wait with an appointment is absolutely ridiculous and inexcusable! I could have been seen faster at the ER (which I had been before). And, if they knew they were going to be busy (as they admitted), well then don't overbook your appointments. I have to add that the receptionist told another patient that he was after me but Dr. Gelbart saw him first. With the atrocious wait, no wonder everyone was disintegrating in the waiting room. P.S.- I didn't have pink eye but was diagnosed with an eye infection. When I asked if it was contagious, I was told "I'm not sure".

With an underlying chronic illness, it was important to find someone who was both competent and wouldn't leave me sitting in the waiting room for hours for every visit. I took a chance on Dr. Gelbart from the great Yelp reviews and also because he has an office near my house. I can only say how relieved I was to find him! A consummate professional, he is caring, thorough and very knowledgeable. I now feel I am in much better hands now then I ever was before at the 'top' doctor at the other clinic. The office may not be flashy, but the quality of care is superb. Nothing but good things to say about Dr. Gelbart!

I am so fortunate to have found Dr. Gelbart. I'd always been told that my eyes were complicated,…read morebut I had no clue just how complicated. I began seeing Dr. Gelbart in October 2013, after a horrifying event in February that left me a blink away from blindness. The procedure to save my sight and reduce the IOP sent me on a fast track to cataracts, something that UCSF had not informed me was a possibility. I had surgery in March and April of 2014 and could not be happier with the outcome. It is worth the weekly appointments, countless tests to check the topography of each eye and all of the other screenings. Not only is he a skilled surgeon, he is also a good listener, extremely calm, kind, smart and patient. He weathered my emotional storms and gave me sight that I could never have imagined. While it is true that there is often a long wait, relax and try to understand that complex problems require time, and know that when it's your turn in that chair, you will also receive that same quality of care. Oh, and I neglected to add that he is a humble surgeon--rare as that is, it's true. As another patient entering his office one afternoon sang, "that man in there, Doctor Gelbart, gives sight to the bind!" and he is absolutely correct. Claudia runs the front of the office and she is beyond phenomenal! Every office needs a Claudia. She is extremely smart, professional, efficient, calm and caring. She, like Dr. Gelbart, lived through a few of my emotional tantrums and it did not seem to phase her, but rather she managed to make everything feel "all better", much like a good mom would do. So comforting to know that she both knows and does her job so well. When she tells you that she will do something, consider it done! This review would not be complete if I neglected to mention Dr. Ahgee Guo, the optometrist at the Stonestown office. Previous to Dr. Guo I had been seeing the same guy, family run business in the Mission, and just thought that they were all alike; busy and uncaring. Dr. Guo is super smart, super kind and sweet, and never makes you feel rushed. She saw me through some really rough times, times when I just couldn't really see. Her knowledge of my extreme farsightedness and narrow angle glaucoma blew me away. If you want the best, look no further! I am forever grateful

I had an appointment at 10am on a weekday and I had to scramble dropping off my toddlers at daycare, answer some work calls, etc and after struggling to find parking at Stonestown I arrived 12 minutes late and the lady who checked me in was rude. She said their late policy is only 10 minutes and because I exceeded 2 minutes they couldn't see me in. And I understand. However, I asked her to see if there's any other availability that day she told me to "go check on your phone" and she left to greet other customers and walked the floor doing absolutely nothing. There was no signal in that store so it took me a while to load the page, later on another person came out and asked me if I had been assisted. I told him what happened and he offered to check for availability in that store (which unfortunately they didnt have) and he went ahead and called the Colma location for me and booked me there. This is what customer service looks like and I swear some people shouldnt be front-facing if they hate people
