I am not one that gives reviews, positive or negative, but this is not something I could just overlook. My father, aunt and many other people were raving about Dr. Ambarian, so I decided to give her a shot. I have been wearing glasses since I was very young, so I can easily spot the good doctor from a not so great one. From our first conversation on the phone Dr. Ambarian seemed very pleasant. My dad had a positive experience with her and mentioned his concern for my vision so he referred me. I made and appointment and showed up to a post-it note on her door stating "will be back shortly". She was 15 minutes late to the appointment. Her unprofessionalism started there. After filling out all of the paperwork and her verifying my insurance, we entered the exam room. She asked me for my previous glasses and the ones previous to those that were not working. I only had the most recent ones. Then she went on to say that before she can give prescription, she needs to see all of my past prescriptions and with out them she would not write me a prescription. I have never, in 20+ years of wearing glasses have heard that. I respectfully, because she is my dad's doctor, told her that I didn't think we were a good fit and requested my paperwork before leaving.
A few hours later I got a call from my father, and he told me that Dr. Ambarian had called my dad to talk about me and let him know that she could have just written the prescription, but she wanted to get to the core of the problem.
First of all, if she would have wrote me a prescription, I wouldn't have left. I stressed how important it was for me to have a prescription before the appointment because I start school soon.
Secondly, I am a 25 year old adult and she decided to break HIPPA and call my father to talk about me. I don't even live with my father, why is she calling my father to discuss anything about me?
I called her back to let her know that what she did was not only unprofessional, but against the law. She said "You are very aggressive and we all just want to help you, so help yourself, bye!" Then just hung up.
I heard so many positive reviews on her and was excited to get a new doctor. I can't say that I will recommend her to anyone. Instead of apologizing for breaking the law, she was rude on the phone.
I am absolutely shocked, appalled and very disappointed. read more
