Dr. Hyver apparently sold his brand to some other doctors so even though they kept his name, he no longer works there. The initial eye exam felt like an assembly line where I was passed from one person to the next, then ended with a salesman-type (they called him a counselor) who was basically a closer. I felt like I was buying a car! That said, everyone was very pleasant and they worked around my schedule to get my surgery done before I left the country. The surgery itself was super fast and painless (albeit a bit unnerving psychologically, but that part only lasted a few seconds). I got the SMILE surgery, a slightly less invasive technique than Lasik. There was a tiny bit of irritation after the numbness wore off, but the next morning I was fine, and within a few days my vision was quite clear. I only got one eye done, so one eye is near sighted and the other is now far sighted, and my brain stitches the images together so I feel like I have 20/20 vision. It's incredible! I need prescription readers now, though, so I can do my up-close stuff without my new far-sighted eye feeling wonky. It was expensive but overall I'm happy with the results. Would recommend. Bonus: As the surgeon got ready to perform the minute-long operation, he put on an 80s station and Sade's song Smooth Operator came on. Writing this review 6 years post-op, with my 20/15 vision and am extremely happy with my overall experience!! The consultation was just alright, well if I'm being honest, was ok the fence with going through after my consult. I didn't feel my questions or concerns were addressed or taken seriously. HOWEVER, bc my cousin had a successful procedure, I went thru with it and am EXTREMELY happy I did. Day of the procedure I was VERY nervous and EVERYONE (from the front desk to Dr. Hyver and everyone in between were sooo calming and welcoming and did everything to make me feel at ease and comfortable!! I'm extremely disappointed with the lack of communication and professionalism at Hyver. My husband scheduled his LASIK pre-op over a month ago, took time off work, and paid for a round-trip Uber expecting his eyes would be dilated. Only when he arrived was he told that Dr. Hyver is retiring in a few days and that his surgery would be handled by an unknown doctor. This is something that should have been communicated well before the appointment. Adding to our frustration, the office was aware that we planned to use our flex spending benefits, which expire in December. Because they failed to notify us earlier, we no longer have time to schedule with another provider--meaning we now stand to lose our flex spending funds entirely. About 9 months post-PRK and it's one of my biggest regrets. Looking back, I feel a bit misled by the explanation of what post-op could look like. When I did end up having issues, including the PRK giving me extreme dry eye that wakes me up at 2-3 am every day for the last 9 months and has required hundreds of $$ in eye drops, I was consistently given more of a "it happens" response without feeling like I will truly see the light at the end of the tunnel. All this time later, I can definitely say this has been a miserable experience for me that I wish I never did. I'm reminded of that every day in the middle of the night when I wake up reaching for the drops just to get rid of the stinging, burning pain. I have reached out to the scheduling team to get more answers but after multiple follow-ups they never got back to me. It seems at this point they're more focused on new patients ($$) which is unfortunate. My quality of life has declined after this treatment and I wouldn't have moved forward with it had I known this could be my fate, alongside feeling that my care team wouldn't be able to help much. I understand the other good reviews because everyone was nice and if it did end up working out for you, that's great. However, this review is a warning to people who may not be so lucky (do your research) and a warning that you will be on your own with a potentially miserable recovery and future of eye problems you didn't have before. read more

Post SMILE with Dr. Hyver in June 2024: Left eye good; right eye blurry. Pre SMILE: -6.5 contacts/glasses with astigmatism on both eyes Overall, I am glad I can see things clearly now with both eyes. I wish my right eye were as good as my left eye, and the difference is hard to ignore. I am giving this business a 3-star rating not only because of the imperfect surgical outcome but also because I was unsatisfied with their communication. Examples: 1. During my consultation, I was only told that there would be a pre-op (dilation exam) before my surgery. During my pre-op, my doctor told me there was a "hole" in my right retina, and I needed to get it checked out by a retinol specialist before my surgery. I recognize that this step is necessary to ensure a safe surgery. Still, I wish I had been informed earlier that this might happen so I wouldn't have been so stressed about calling retinol specialists around the town and trying to squeeze an appointment within the very tight time frame between pre-op and op. 2. Two days before my op, the business called me and said I had to come in again for another check-up before my surgery. I WAS NOT GIVEN AN EXPLANATION on why this was needed. Again, I wish I had been informed earlier that this might happen so I wouldn't have been so concerned that something might be wrong with my eye numbers. 3. At my one-day post-op appointment, the doctor checked my eyes for 5 mins and said, "That would be everything for today ". She would not have told me anything if I hadn't asked her how my eyes looked. Upon my inquiries, she told me my eyes looked "good", but no more details. I will have my 3-month post-op appointment in a couple of weeks. We will see how things go. Just had LASIK done on both eyes, and had an overall positive experience! I came in a few weeks ago for my free consultation, where they did an in-depth assessment of my eye health. After they determined if I was a good candidate for LASIK, I hopped on a video call with both my patient coordinator and Dr. Hyver. I didn't mind the nature of our conversation being a video call given that I had the flexibility to choose from 3 sites and pick whichever office was the most convenient for me to get testing done. You are given comprehensive instructions and your pre-op prescriptions are submitted to your pharmacy about a week before your procedure. That day, we scheduled my pre-operative exam, surgery day, and post-operative exam. During the pre-op, they dilate your eyes to get a better look at your retina and eye health to confirm that you are good to go for your procedure. If not, they will refer you to an eye specialist to ensure you get proper care. The day of surgery went smoothly and was a lot faster than I anticipated. They prep you with the necessary meds and local anesthetic, then take you to the exam room. You have the option to take a sedative and additional pain-killers if you're an overly anxious person like me. Dr. Hyver talks you through the whole procedure so you don't ever have to wonder what the heck you should be doing. Very easy to follow instructions. Recovery went smoothly. Honestly, it felt like nothing happened in my right eye. I had clear vision almost immediately and had no symptoms. My left eye was more sensitive to light, felt itchier, and teary eyed the first 2-hours post op. I took another Tylenol and followed the eye drop instructions post-op, and it was fine after 4-hours. The next day I went to get my post-op exam done, and the optometrist confirmed I was 20/15 in both eyes! I'm going to summarize all of these reviews for your ease, because as an anxious person, I read all of them before committing to lasik here. Dr. Hyver has mostly 5s (and some 4s) for being competent, experienced, and very knowledgeable about lasik surgery. The 3s, 2s, and 1s mostly take issue with: (a) the price, (b) the lack of personalized attention, or (c) folks who were upset they didn't qualify for the procedure. I personally encountered no issues with the lovely staff, and I wasn't bothered by the efficient nature of the office. As for the price -- we only have one set of eyes and I don't think eye surgery is something to cut $ corners on. I looked for horror stories in the reviews but finding none, I forged ahead. I was looking for excellence in the Bay Area and was pointed to Dr. Hyver by multiple friends/doctors. I'm about a month out from my surgery now, and I have to agree that it was one of the best decisions of my life. I've worn contacts/glasses for almost two decades, and ever since I entered the workforce (read: started staring at screens for most of the day), my eyes started getting drier and drier. Contacts started bothering me, so I looked into getting lasik - something I was really nervous about doing. The two most recommended surgeons in the Bay Area are Dr. Hyver and Dr. Manche (Stanford). I went to both, and while I'm sure both would have done a good job, Dr. Manche was more conservative. He did little to calm my fears and agreed that side effects *could* happen. Dr. Hyver is the opposite -- super confident, super optimistic. Neither style is better or objectively correct, but since I had already committed to doing this, I needed the unwavering optimism. Since Dr. Hyver operates on athletes, he's seen (and fixed!) some of the worst post-surgery injury cases, which has probably given him general optimism about his capabilities and that of the evolved surgery technology. Immediately after my surgery, I slept most of the day, then woke up the next day with perfect vision. For the first two weeks, I had the expected symptoms of sensitivity to sunlight, some night vision blindness, and halos. But all have since improved or gone away. I don't feel like my eyes are dry at all, though I've stuck with my eyedrops routine just in case. It's been a miracle to wake up and see clearly, and to travel without my usual visual accouterments. If you're looking for a lasik surgeon, I recommend Dr. Hyver. I spent years researching my decision, doing consultations, reading every Yelp review possible, and effectively stalling bc I was so nervous. Wow. Lasik is truly life changing. Dr. Scott Hyver and his team was wonderful. Everyone is super sweet and friendly, including Dr. Hyver himself. He even sent me an email after my consultation to see if I have any questions. The team also sends reminder emails of when to stop wearing contacts, when to pick up medications, etc. They are super organized! Consultation - The reception and staff are all very friendly. At consultation, they did a couple of tests where I just look into different machines to see if I qualify. Then I did a video call with Dr. Hyver and a patient counselor. The patient counselor was able to schedule my pre-op and surgery date appointment. Pre-op - They dilated my eyes and checked my vision. It felt like an appointment at your regular optometrist and doing the "which one looks better... 1 or 2..." test. Again, everyone was super friendly. Surgery day - Checked in and was super excited for the appointment. I went in at 10am and got out at 10:45am. It was quick! Dr. Hyver tells you everything he is about to do so you don't have any surprises. Afterwards, my vision was hazy but I was still able to walk to the parking lot where my friend was waiting for me to drive me home. About 4-5 hours later, I was able to see clearly. It was amazing! Post op - I drove myself and they checked my vision. I was able to see 20/15 and my cornea flap was healing properly! They told me right eye was pretty dry so I needed to apply lubricant eyedrops more frequently than normal, which I did. After two weeks, that dry eye feeling was completely gone. I have not even used the lubricant eyedrops ever since. I am able to see extremely well and the halos at night seem to be getting better and better as each week progresses. I am six months post-op (LASIK in one eye and PRK in the other). I deducted a star solely for one reason: the lack of transparency in the fact that I would/could lose some acuity in my close up vision. I had perfect close "reading" vision prior to surgery and I am not close to the 40-year mark when everyone begins experiencing degradation of close vision. I have since spoken with other optometrists who told me this is very common and I should have been informed. Not only was I not informed prior, but I explained the loss in multiple post-op visits and was still not told this was a normal experience, but rather "you're right where we want you to be" - I guess because my distance vision and astigmatism have been fully corrected for the most part. This is a mistake on their part in not setting the appropriate expectations. Everything else about my experience with Dr. Hyver and his office, as you'll read in most other reviews, was excellent. So I don't feel the need to explain the full experience in reiterating these positive sentiments. Overall, the results were more than worth it and I would go through with it again, but I felt this is notable information to share. I am writing this 5 days after my LASIK surgery - not from Hyver but from UC Berkeley. First, I went to, Scott Hyver, the most well known LASIK practice in the Bay Area and Hyver said I was not a candidate for LASIK so I assumed their professional opinion was the final answer. Then while on vacation in a remote cenote in Mexico, I met a guy who also had astigmatism plus near and far sightedness and said he was able to get all three corrected. WTF??!! I started doing the research again and discovered UC Berkeley. I told them what Hyver said... and they said it's not the astigmatism they are worried about but the dry eyes. They had me do a regimen of fish oils, wipes, and heat pad at night and in two months I was able to cure my dry eyes for surgery. I wish I never went to Hyver for a consultation since I could have got this done years earlier and been able to enjoy my vacations without glasses, scuba without contacts, and snowboarding without not seeing maps. LASIK is life changing even after 5 days. But how can a UC have better consults, care, and technology than the place who claims to do athletes? As I later found out, most eye doctors go to UC Berkeley to get their eyes done. Go figure. Do real research, learn from my mistakes. Monovision is amazing!!! read more

The first local business I've supported in 2023! I've been wanting to get rid of my contacts and glasses for years but waited for my eyes to stabilize. I went in for a consultation at the beginning of September and learned I passed the initial screening of the consultation but would have to come back again for a second screening due to my high prescription/ astigmatism. Since I wanted to use FSA dollars, I worked with Jian to plan accordingly when was the "latest" I can make this follow up appt before my open enrollment period without the consultation results expiring (the consultation is to check your eye health to determine if you are a qualified candidate for eye surgery). In October, I learned I was officially an eligible candidate for lasik and had my surgery scheduled for early January 2023 (take note that surgery dates do not happen every day - it is crucial to plan accordingly since you won't be able to wear your contacts for some time (2 weeks if you wear soft contacts or 6 weeks if you wear rigid / hard contacts - which was my case). I was a bit nervous surgery day but the surgery itself was such a breeze. I arrived at 10:40am for my 11am appt and there was no time wasted - I was out the door by 11:16am. I was surprised how quickly I was able to see 20/20. Literally the next day. I was worried with my high prescription and astigmatism it would take longer to heal but I was able to see great. It's almost been 1 month and my eyes are healing well! I do see a bit of a glare/ halos at night but it has gotten better with time. I imagine it will only get better from here. My vision has been permanently damaged! Two years after my surgery I am requiring two different prescription medications for the rest of my life and I still have persistent blurriness dryness, and foreign body pain. (they excised too much tissue ... Hippocrates anybody?) I need to get my blood drawn and carry temperature controlled eyedrops with me 24/7. My surgery outcome was simply terrible vision and pain in just my left eye, two years after my procedure. Pain has been daily and the doctors on site are not really interested in helping manage or deal with the issues that resulted from my botched surgery, instead misdiagnosing the issue as "dryness". I've since been seen by a third party optometrist and had it confirmed that my LASIK flap has a wrinkle in it in addition to my curve being set incorrectly by the surgeon. I truly believe I have one of the worst outcomes they've seen because their specialists and doctors seem out of their depth when facing what I'm dealing with. My right eye is perfect, so we know it's not my diet or anything in my system - I would simply say BEWARE OF LASIK - the flap introduces maybe a dozen potential complications and it's not worth the "rapid" result. I regret my surgery every day, every hour, and sometimes every blink. read more

Pricing was also the best compared to my other options. Day of surgery, Dr. Hyver worked quickly and efficiently on my eyes. Downtime was minimal and they ensure you're prepared before and post-op. Dr. Hyver forever changed my life for the better in 2004, when he performed LASIK on my eyes. I was super nervous about it, but I had zero issues and have never looked back. I read every single review on this page before getting LASIK, so wanted to provide my thoughts for all you curious but anxious folks out there. I am one week post-op, and cannot stop raving about how happy I am with my experience and results. Everyone at the office is a delight and I felt that I was in good hands from start to finish. Considering my summer plans, I had a small window to get everything done, and my patient counselor did what she could to schedule my pre-op, operation, and post-op in a week's time. I had a lot of anxiety going into the operation itself, but it wasn't bad at all. You lay there with a clamp keeping your eye open, and follow a green light. It looks like a light show and you don't feel anything as your eyes are numb. Afterwards, your eyesight is a little hazy (as if you were looking through seran wrap), but things were much more clear than if I were walking around without glasses. Post-op, the hazy view maintained for about 4 hours, and my eyes felt very weak, so I just took a nap. I didn't feel any of the dryness or pain that others warned me about. By night-time I was watching a movie simply amazed at how well I could see! The next day, I couldn't stop saying "wow, this is amazing!" as the whole world seemed crisper than I had ever managed to see it with my contacts or glasses. So I've been interested in having the laser procedure done for five years now and my only hesitation has been the lack of confidence in the doctors I've met and waiting for the technology to get better. Fortunately for me My optometrist knows Dr. Scott Hyver and recommended that I have a consultation with him. I can honestly say that im happy I did. he is by far the best Lasik surgeon that I have ever encountered. For the first time I'm actually excited and can't wait to have my procedure finally done. First of all their actual office is impeccable and extremely clean. I am actually very impressed with the way they treat their consultations/patients. I found it refreshing to see how such a young staff carries themselves. One of his assistants named Mika, was the young lady who took care of me and my needs. She very soft-spoken and very attentive to my needs. After she took all of my information and made me go through a battery of testing I was then introduced to Dr. Scott Hyver. Who for very young man, had great recommendations about his work as well as tons of respect in the field. he actually is their primary physician who does all the work for the San Francisco 49ers football team. I found that Information extremely impressive because I am a football fanatic. He was very thorough and extremely open to answering any and all questions that I had about the procedure. He even recommended that I continue to do my research and evaluate other doctors in case I wanted to hear a second or third opinion on the information that was given to me. He also was not shy about stating how he wants what's best for me and all of his patients. He's very authentic and looks at his practice as a way of building relationships instead of just simply getting paid. After I was done with the doctor I was introduced to a consultant who went in depth about what the next step in the process was. These steps including setting dates, costs as well as information on recovery time. She personalized it and talked about her experience having the PRK procedure done by the doctor and even what to do if things don't go well after the whole process was done. I can honestly say that it was a great well-rounded experience and definitely worth the five out of five stars I am giving their review. From start to finish the experience at Scott Hyver's Daly City office was amazing. Every technician, doctor, and the front desk lady were extremely nice and reassuring. I first called and set up an appointment for an initial consultation 2 weeks after. At the consultation I found that I was eligible for lasik. I was able to schedule an appointment for the pre operation the next week, and the surgery the day after! During the surgery Dr. Hyver reassured me and gave directions throughout the whole process, which left me feeling less nervous and confident in his abilities. To my surprise, Andrius, who I met on my first visit, was onsite for the procedure as well. He has a way about him of putting a patient at ease through easy conversation and a relatable personality, this is an employee you want to keep around. That said, Dr. Hyver was a true professional, clearly knowledgeable, but also very clear with instruction and encouragement during the procedure. *edited review* Dr. Hyver called me back regarding the concerns I had wrote in review below which essentially were 1. Medical malpractice and 2. My personal vision changes. I found him calling me and providing me his cellphone for future questions to be very professional and has changed my perspective of his practice. Although your consultation meeting with Dr. Hyver may seem nonchalant for people that are good candidates, he definitely considers multiple factors when understanding if you are a candidate or not. I did go to a LASIK center before a few years back and they were definitely not as thorough as his practice, which I appreciate. The medical malpractice bit was actually a case that was dismissed since the patient was still considered a candidate in the end. The vision changes were due to another reason, not an issue with Dr. Hyver overlooking her candidacy. Medical malpractice can be iffy since some docs should be sued while others shouldn't. Dr. Hyver did not do the patient wrong here. In regards to my vision, I was actually tested with my glasses on during the consultation to see if I am able to see 20/20, which I was, meaning that my vision is technically stable. During a visit with my personal optometrist, my prescription went up about a quarter for each side which, in actuality, is ok for LASIK. A more thorough test on your vision would be performed in your pre-op appointment. Ultimately I will still not proceed with LASIK just because I am still worried about the side effects and complications people have reported. ALSO his practice was flagged by the FDA in 2012 because improper advertising for LASIK corrective eye surgery. (Thought his practice would fix after 2004? I guess not?) It got me thinking how would one ever know if they were qualified? There are thousands of LASIK centers in the US, how would anyone do a quality check to ensure good clinical practice? It all comes down to advocating for yourself and doing your own research I guess :/ For me, I found out through my personal optometrist after qualifying for LASIK that I had a prescription change ( which would not qualify me for LASIK). I found it kinda odd that they didn't check my prescription to see if my power changed from a year ago, I just claimed that my prescription didn't change (how would I know?). After I found out about this discrepancy I couldn't trust LASIK centers anymore... I would say that the staff seemed quite tired specifically the surgical technician ( I think that's what he called himself). I added an additional star because the optometrist was thorough and telling me the purpose of each test was ( eye dryness, corneal thickness, pupil size, etc). The office was clean and their workflow made sense. I was initially excited for LASIK because of all of the 5 star reviews this place had ( took out money for FSA too). It was a mistake and I had to read the side effects again in the context of patient experiences. There's also a FB group with loads of people that had issues with their LASIK immediately after and several years down the line. People have committed suicide because the laser messed up their vision! This is everything you could want from a LASIK procedure/experience. Consultation: Super friendly reception and initial visit with the optometrist to see if you qualify. It didn't feel rushed at all. Once confirmed to qualify, I met with Dr. Hyver and one of the patient counselors via video. I had previously gone to another office who recommended SMILE. However, Dr. Hyver was upfront with me and said my astigmatism was at the upper end of SMILE's max. He recommended LASIK, which was cheaper. I felt like I could trust him because he wasn't trying to just take my money. The patient counselor was super organized and answered all my other administrative questions. While waiting for my appointment date, I got regular emails from the counselor reminding me when my appointments were, when to stop using contacts, and when to start eye drops. I might have forgotten without them. Procedure day: Checked in and got all setup. They were attentive and made sure to calm any nerves. Then, I went into the surgery room and Dr. Hyver fixed my eyes. The procedure itself was super easy and fast. Dr. Hyver makes sure to tell you exactly what to do. Honestly, I think spent more time with his staff than him though I think. Post-op: Again, staff is super friendly. They checked to make sure everything was healing and lined up properly. Overall, amazing experience. This practice is run like a well-oiled machine. I received prior surgery because my cornea were too thin. I consulted with 3 other doctors before deciding to go with Dr. Scott Hyver. 8 years later I still have perfect vision and it was the best decision I could have ever made. Thinking back to the days I wore eye glasses and contacts really makes me wonder why I wasted so much time and money dealing with solution and what do to if I lost one side of my contact. Now I go to bed and wake up not having to worry about all those things. The staff were kind and knowledgeable and Dr. Hyver was absolutely professional every step of the way. If you do get PRK please do not go alone, although you receive numbing eye drops they where off quickly and you will need guidance and a ride going back home. I had a great experience with Dr. Hyver and his staff. Like many of you, I relied on these reviews before moving forward with a LASIK procedure - after all it is your eyes! In hindsight, my first consultation with another company was about the same in providing standard tests - but with a few key differences. They were quick to relay that I'm a good candidate for LASIK - amazing news I thought! But the whole consultation I never spoke with the actual surgeon, just the qualified staff. It still irks me that they dilated my eyes, didn't provide any protective shades to see, and allowed me to just leave - I couldn't drive for a good 15-20 min. That's besides the point, onto the real stuff My 2nd consultation with Dr. Hyver - the staff was very nice and provided all the standard tests with in depth info. The key difference here is that the staff relayed all the info they gathered and shared it with Dr. Hyver. Which led to Dr. Hyver saying 'he was surprised' that the first company said I was a good candidate for LASIK which he believes I am best fit for PRK. The staff then showed me their reasoning with the results from the tests. To be honest I was sold immediately and proceeded with next steps without hesitation. They provided all the necessary info on the differences between LASIK & PRK. One thing that felt reassuring was that you are able to speak directly with Dr. Hyver about the process, next steps, and any questions you have at the end of your consultation. Major props here for reassurance that they care about what they do. After that, everything moved rather quickly. A few more appointments, and then the actual procedure which Dr. Hyver did himself. The procedure was quick as noted by many, about 10 min. In n Out like a double double wit fries. PRK was the safer route for my eyes. They provided all the info to ensure a smooth healing process. They aren't lying that the 3rd-5th day being the most uncomfortable. It basically feels like a dry, dirty contact in your eye. Or an eye lash that's stuck in there. Not totally unbearable, just constant uncomfortable for majority of the day. My vision was still blurry, but A LOT clearer than if I weren't wearing my contacts/glasses. I suggest to keep up with all the eye drops, and use the Artificial Tears eye drops as needed throughout the day. I was also still able to work on the computer. After about a week and a half, my eyes started to become clear and just like that, I'm able to see without the use of my glasses/contacts. Life changing treatment. If you read my review this far, do yourself a favor and proceed with the procedure! I've needed corrective lenses since I was 8 years and have considered LASIK on and off since my vision stabilized in my early twenties. Mostly because of fear, I never considered it seriously until several months ago. A friend recently had it done and recommended Dr. Hyver. I've known the name for years as you can't possibly ignore his ads if you listen to the radio, but I found it promising that she, as a doctor herself, had chosen him amongst the choices we have in the Bay Area. My fiancée went to the consultation with me and we both felt that I was in good hands. I felt strongly enough that I didn't look into other options. After numerous tests, Dr. Hyver determined that I was a candidate for LASIK. He's soft spoken and doesn't make any grand promises or say anything more than he needs to, which I appreciated. It's also reassuring that he offers free enhancement procedures as part of his cost, should your vision change in the future. From my initial consult to the procedure itself, there was about a month's time. The optometrists (Dr. Quan and Dr. Lin, and the rest of the staff are great about giving you all the information you need, whether verbally or on paper. I never had questions because everything you need to know is presented to you without having to ask. The surgery itself was a breeze. If you're an anxious person like I am, I highly suggest accepting the anti-anxiety medication they offer as soon as you arrive. With that said, Dr. Hyver talks you through the surgery, which only lasts 5-10 minutes. They use local anesthetic and I would describe the feeling as your eye being tickled. He has a soothing way of speaking and gives clear directions. Aside from the brief pressure and the sensation of your eyes being sucked, everything else that happened while I was laying there seemed like a vision test of following the lights. Once the numbing wore off, I'll admit that the 4-5 hours after the procedure were the most uncomfortable for me. My eyes were stinging and extremely sensitive to light. I ended up sleeping for a few hours but they felt normal the next morning, miraculously. I religiously stuck to the eye drop regimen they gave me (2 prescribed drops you use for the week following surgery, sleeping with the provided night goggles for a week, preservative-free artificial tears for a month, wearing sunglasses when outdoors) even while on a two week vacation recently and have found the side effects to be almost non-existent. I went through a ton of eye drops, but I didn't have dry eyes, stinging, and didn't experience any halos at all while driving at night. My eyes are still a bit sensitive with fluorescent lighting, which I learned while at Whole Foods and the Apple Store. It has been 6 weeks since I had LASIK. I went to the post-op yesterday and I'm now seeing better than 20/20 (but not quite 20/15)! There is almost no sign of LASIK being done on my eyes. That's incredible. So, I finally did it. After wearing glasses since I was 8, I did what I should have done a long time ago. And it could NOT have gone better. I researched doctors for years. And I talked to alot of Lasik patients. Based on their feedback, I was prepared to go through a few months of "healing". Maybe some dry eye, some sensitivity to light, some halos....but with Dr. Hyver - I've had NO side effects, no discomfort, nothing. I'm amazed. Here's what YOU can expect. - This office will check you thoroughly to make sure you're a candidate. Not everyone is. Some doctors will do the surgery anyway, but the good doctors will be honest with you. - Even though they see alot of patients here, I genuinely felt that they cared about me and were excited for my surgery. They took their time, They made me feel comfortable. They answered my questions without ever making me feel rushed. - On the day of the surgery, they checked my eyes one last time. The surgery itself took 10 minutes, maybe less. There was no pain whatsoever. When I walked out of the surgery room, I could see perfectly, but my eyes were a bit teary. But that's it. They gave me a bag with my eye drop medications, a pair of sunglasses, and some night goggles to protect my eyes when I sleep (these are temporary). After surgery, I took a 4-hour nap. And when I woke up my eyes felt great, other than a bit of redness. The next day at my follow-up exam, I was already seeing at 20/20. I'm just amazed. It's like a miracle. I go back in a month to recheck my vision and I'm hoping that I'll be seeing better than 20/20 by then. If you've been thinking about getting Lasik but are scared to do it, don't be. I scared myself out of doing it for years, and now I wish I had done it sooner. And if you're worried about the cost, consider it an investment that will last you a lifetime. Sounds cheesy, but it's true. Plus you can do what I did - I set aside money in my company's Flexible Spending Account so I'm getting reimbursed for most of the cost, and I saved payroll taxes on the amount of money I set aside. I came here for LASIK from my friend's recommendation. Everyone here is super nice... the doctors, receptionists, counselor... EVERYONE! First step: I had my consultation to see if I qualified, which I did. Each step of the way, the doctors tell you what the machines do and what they are checking for. We got to speak with Dr. Scott Hyver and ask any questions after the consultation. Then we get a patient counselor who helps us with the finance and any further questions. Second step: This preparation stage for me went on for 2 weeks. I had to take omega-3 pills once a day, and put on eye drops every few hours because I had dry eyes. Third step: Operation time! Went into the surgery room, and laid down on the bench with the LASIK machine above my head. Dr. Scott Hyver let me know what was happening each move he made and what I should be seeing. He said things like, "There will be pressure now and your vision will slowly turn black", "I'm lifting the flap and you should see a blurry green light", "I'm going to put the flap back down and smooth it out with a sponge". Fourth step: After surgery, I had to take inflammatory and anti-biotic eye drops every few hours as instructed by the doctors. This went on for another 2 weeks. I had to wear eye-goggles to sleep so that I don't accidentally hit or rub the eyeballs while they are healing. Fifth step: The post-operation check up happened about 1 month after the surgery. One of the doctors did some eye exams to see if everything was normal. With my LASIK corrected vision, I can now see things at 20/15 (better than 20/20)! After a friend had the procedure and raved about I decided to look into it a bit further. I scheduled my evaluation with Dr Hyver's office and was quickly seen. I have an astigmatism in both eyes so was curious to see what could be done. I didn't qualify for lasik but I could get PRK which is just a longer recovery time. I was a bit concerned about that since I commute on a motorcycle daily and didn't want to miss much work. I was thrilled to learn I could split my pre-op and my surgery between December and January. This allowed me to take advantage of the funds left in my flexible spending account for 2014 and arrange to have the remainder allocated from my 2015 FSA. It really was a nice treat for myself and I couldn't be happier. The first few days after surgery there was some pain and discomfort but it was manageable. My left eye felt like someone just had their finger pressed against my eye. The second day I was extremely light sensitive. Even the TV was too bright with sunglasses on. I gradually got better and found I could ride my motorcycle after a few days. Things were pretty blurry but I did a lot of research beforehand and knew that was too be expected. It was weird at first when things were blurry and your glasses do nothing to fix it. I was pretty light sensitive for about two weeks. I never felt that I was in a great deal of pain. It was all manageable. I followed the instructions with everything they gave me. Drops every 4 hours. Vitamin C every day. It was able to increase my font size and adjust my screen resolution allowing me to do my job. It was exciting to see improvements in my vision every so often. Eventually I felt I was seeing really good and no longer found myself squinting. I occasionally found that certain things took a bit longer to focus on, like prices in a grocery store. But even that got better. I'm thrilled to say after my latest appointment I'm seeing 20/15 in my left eye and 20/20 in my right. This has truly exceeded my expectations. I still wake up at times and want to reach for my glasses but after a second I realize I no longer need them.
