Susan Lungar is the rudest, meanest medical "professional" I ever encountered. First of all, Susan was over an hour late for our scheduled appointment. Then, the second I walked into the room, without any apologies for her tardiness, Susan immediately went on a rant, screaming at me, denying me health care! Susan wouldn't let me get a word in. This appointment was clearly between her and her computer screen, NOT with the human patient sitting before her. She jumped to many unsubstantiated conclusions before ever meeting me prior to this nightmare of a visit. Susan completely failed to deliver patient centered care. Zero empathy, compassion, or understanding. Susan literally threw a cruel tantrum. It was all about her ego and biases. Never attempting to actually treat or exam me. Once her dismissive behavior became clear, I left immediately. I refused to sit there and allow her to yell at me. Susan completely lacks the ability to behave like an adult, let alone treat her patients like adults, or with dignity and respect. What a shame. Please retire and let young, competent professionals in to care for patients who are attempting to bring business to Farallon. You're clearly not able to keep up with the work load any longer. read more

Dr. Longar and her staff are amazing! From the front desk to the coordinator (Tess) to seton surgery center (Lila, anesthesiologist and nurses) all top notch medical providers. I had my cataract surgery and was so happy with the results, my vision improved significantly and colors are brighter. The surgery was minimally invasive and was over in 10 mins! I've tried for nearly 2 years and ever single time I go in I have to wait at least 30 min to be seen. It's usually closer to 45. They are so overbooked it's a bit of a joke. Packed waiting room and extremely slow processes. And if you want glasses, it's very inconvenient. They have a separate person in the lobby who manages glasses and frames. She's rarely there and when she is, she's a bit rude and it's a very weak selection of frames. Do yourself a favor, only come here if you have a whole day to kill. Never again. read more

I came here a couple of years ago and i was shocked during covid that they had very inadequate procedures and tons of ppl were coughing. and how the waiting room was completely crowed, due to them overbooking. instead of having 2 patients per hour, they book 4 ppl per hour. i had to miss my acupuncture appt bc i wasn't seen until AN HOUR LATER than my actual appt. It is crazy how they are so dismissive and disrespectful of their patients' time, especially when many of their patients are seniors. Today I took a disabled family member to see one of the dr here. Again the wait was ridiculous! One guy who had a 10:45am still wasn't seen at 11:15am, at which time he had to reschedule since he had a second appt elsewhere that he had to be. Another lady next to us was seeing the same dr and their appt was at 11am and they didn't get to go in until 11:30. They seem to think that it's okay for ppl to wait 30m-1 hour. I guess they don't read the reviews here. How can you you put your patients through this and think this is okay? I mean, how would they feel if they were kept an hour ? After the episode a couple years ago, i came to yelp and read about all the ridiculous issues with not being seen until an hour later. DISCRIMINATION AND HARM/DENIAL. I am devastated, insulted, appalled, mortified and unnecessarily stunned by the fact that Matt, manager of the Eye Clinic (Dr. Peter Martindale), feels he has the righteousness to label, judge and accuse me of being threatening and aggressive without a voice? He is not understanding or remotely conscience towards other people's comments and timing. I had to call the office to confirm my appointment. Jessica laughed at me when I shared the time consuming website issues and the fact that I was unable to access the defective technical channel for two days. When I insisted on speaking to a manager, Jessica placed me on hold, returned to my call and rushed when I reminded her of her fast speech and she hung up on me. I then, called back to ensure of my appointment after attempting four menu options. I then conveyed to Cheryl/Optical, of Jessica's behavior. Cheryl condoned and defended Jessica. I remain outraged. I again, insisted on the manager. My interaction with Matt: I demonstrated ample patience but he clearly lacks mindfulness, listening comprehension and focusing on the matter. Matt commented on irrelevant concerns, admitted to rambling and hindered on my time without any consideration. He rudely and immorally decided that "we cannot make you happy..." Matt determined that he would cancel my overdue and dire vision access. Matt should be legally reprimanded for his brutal and selfish demeanor. I needed this health appointment. I've been here 3 times since 2019 but only saw Dr. Longar once, because she was in surgery the other times I went, so I had no choice, I had to see Dr. Ting Liu who I don't care for. Her bedside manner is non-existent and she's not informative at all, basically assuming I'm an ophthalmologist and I know everything. She also didn't use numbing drops or measure my tear ducts before placing Punctal Plugs in my eyes, so I had to endure stabbing pain while she tried to fit them for me. Please reschedule your appointment or wait if you have to see Dr. Longar. DO NOT make any appointments with Dr. Ting Liu unless it's an emergency!! Dr. Longar is straight forward, informative, and very knowledgeable. She even took the time to call me back after the office closed and she replied back to my message too. She diagnosed me with something no other eye doctor has ever even come close to noticing!! It's not harmful or detrimental, it's a completely benign and manageable diagnoses, but now I can treat the symptoms which nobody else ever mentioned! I have dry eye syndrome too from having Lasik surgery so I was paying $896 out of pocket for a 30 day supply of Xiidra eye drops. She got the prescription written for me and now I pay $0! Recently I've changed eye drops and she got those authorized too. Office staff are very nice, I don't know what people are talking about saying they're rude. Maybe they're just busy or overwhelmed, but they're not rude!! It's a big office and they have hundreds of patients, so be prepared to wait at least 45 minutes to see the actual doctor, whoever you see. The waiting room area is about a 10 minute wait before you see the medical assistant who does all the testing that the real doctor doesn't have time to do. Overall I'd give the business 4.5 stars. The medical assistant Ines at my most recent visit had a cute Baby Yoda bag in the exam room LOL! She was very nice, and informative. Hopefully you get to be seen by her because the male assistant who I've seen twice (no scrubs) with curly hair is so standoffish. He shouldn't be working with the general public at all. First and foremost I am SUCH a fan of Dr. Susan Longar. She is wonderful and so kind and understanding. She has the best bedside manners I have ever encountered. She was able to listen to my issues and diagnose what is needed for the next course of treatment and how to proceed with my suspect glaucoma and my dry eye disease. Her office staff can use a little bit of feedback and couching. I did not have a pleasant experience with the front desk staff as she was not understanding my insurance coverage and kept going in circles. Once I asked to speak with a manager that was resolved. If you need a Prior Authorization for any medication - I've needed to monitor and stay on top of this myself which isn't the best experience but that is NOT a reflection of Dr Longar. read more

I really love Dr Longar, always kind and straight forward. Sadly, this office work flow and always waiting is unacceptable. I make morning appointments because they are ALWAYS running late, especially if you come in the afternoon. You have to wait inbetween getting eyes photographed --wait, and wait, check eye pressure --wait...dilation, wait again, then another Dr sees you- wait- then finally you see Dr Longar, after one and a half hours!?? Dr Longar is the worst doctor I've ever dealt with. I saw her presenting with optic neuritis. She did none of the appropriate tests. It has since been determined that it was Optic Neuritis. I begged her for an MRI because I suspected that I have MS. She literally told me "you do not have MS". Having done NONE of the diagnostic tests to support her statement, I was left completely defeated with no energy to seek further treatment (not to mention insurance prohibited me seeing someone else). Fast forward 1 1/2 years later...I DO in fact have MS. Thanks for Dr Longar, I am starting treatment after this delay in diagnosis. WHO in their right mind diagnoses someone with NO basis of fact??? She is one of those doctors with some sort of god complex. I highly recommend seeing someone....anyone other than her! read more

I had gone to Dr. Longar for many years for just general eyecare and glasses. I was always very impressed . Approximately four years Dr Longar suggested that I get lenses for my eyes along with cataract surgery. She said she could no longer improve my eyesight with prescription glasses, I did take her recommendation, but I regret doing it now. She informed me at the time of several risks of side effects one being driving at night and struggling with too much glare from oncoming traffic. She shared that normally that goes away but could take up to a year- but for me it never did. I had gone back to her office a couple of times post surgery complaining about the situation and they said everything looked fine but would take more time. I finally went to get a second opinion at UCSF ophthalmology department and they told me the reason I was having this ongoing issue was because because one of my lenses was not on center allowing light to shine directly into my iris. They also told me that there was really nothing they could do about it at this point without risking my eyesight altogether to try to fix it because of a post surgery zapping of the back of my eye that Dr Longar conducted post surgery- so I'm left with night driving, almost impossible for me. Of course, the legal limit to be able to file a suit at that point had passed . I'm still a fairly young woman so to have that limitation for the rest of my life is quite a challenge. The doctors at UCSF also shared that if I had come to them, they would have recommend that I not get the lenses that were put into my eyes because of these risks of surgery and just stayed with glasses. My eyesight is not improved at all as a result of these surgeries, and having these trifocal lenses inserted into my eyes, has made my eyesight actually worse. Dr. Longar gave me literature to read but was really unwilling to discuss possible side effects at length. But the bottom line is one of my lenses is on crooked, which has nothing to do with all of the other potential side effects. It just has to do with error in placement and sadly I'm left living with that error for the rest of my life. Something to think about before you get surgery. My friend had suggested at the time I get a second opinion with UCSF before I got the surgery. But I have been seeing Dr. Longar for so long. I felt confident. I wish I had gotten that second opinion, and learned a very important lesson about second opinions. I wish I had just gotten a cataract surgery with the clear lens and left it with that - live and learn but a costly lesson for sure! read more

Dr. Longar and Dr. Martindale are exceptional. However, at front desk check in one staff member there needs to show empathy to patients. The worst thing is they have patients waiting for at least 30 minutes past their appointment time. So prepare to spend an eternity there.. I visited Dr.Susan Longar a few months ago for eye exams, and though I was given unfortunate news about glaucoma and lost peripheral vision, Dr.Longar was reassuring and comforting and made sure that I understood the treatment plan. She also recently performed cataract surgery on both my eyes, was the most kind and caring doctor, and actually listened to my concerns and patiently answered all my questions- pre and post surgery. After each of my eye surgeries, she called me later in the evening to check to make sure I was feeling ok. She genuinely cares for her patients and makes sure to put one's mind at ease. Her team in the operation theater were extremely kind and thoughtful and I was absolutely comfortable throughout the procedure. I highly recommend her. read more

I've been going to Dr. Longar for 10 years for ALL my opthalmology needs. She is top shelf in every way. Kaiser MDs would operate on my eye due to complicated issues (not just one). Dr. Longar surger is a total success... it figures because she is a extreme sports lady who just rocks and excels at everything she does (MD, Rock Climbing, long distance bicyclist). Not only does Dr. Longar fixed my eye with surgery ... she really cares about my well being. This is unusal and rare for an MD. There wouldn't be long lines for Dr Longar office if she wasn't too shelf, but she treats each person I've seen with kindness, provides real guidance and always does right by me. If I could give 0 stars I would. Nobody ever answers the phone at this office. After trying for so long, I finally got a hold of a girl name Yunice. She put me on hold for over 20 minutes and must've forgot about me. I heard her come back to the phone and she hung up on me. I tried again the next day thinking I would have better luck and I spoke to another girl about making an appointment with Susan and she told me the next available appointment was in April. I explained that my doctor referred me to a cataract surgeon for immediate consultation for a possible surgery and the receptionist on the phone rudely stated "that's not an urgent appointment and the next appointment will be in April". I am not sure if the doctors at this practice are aware of how unpleasant, unprofessional, and rude their staff is. My friends recommended me to see Susan Longar but from the looks of it I will never be contacting this office again. My friends agree with me and have said the same. I called another cataract surgeons office in San Francisco and they were very kind and welcoming. They actually cared about my concern and got me in immediately to see a doctor. I am a dentist in Daly City. On a Friday afternoon, I noticed that I was having pain in my eye. I asked for a appointment early the following week because it was late in the day on Friday. Dr. Longar's receptionist asked me about my symptoms and quickly got back on the phone and said that the doctor wants to see me right away because she is concerned that this might be a serious problem that could not wait until Monday. I was squeezed in a 5:30 on a Friday and Dr. Longar diagnosed the issue and performed the necessary procedure to resolve the problem. It is clear that she is an expert and very devoted to providing the absolute best care. She was professional, kind, and very detailed in her explanations. Even though it was late on a Friday I did not sense that any of her team members were in a rush or that they were trying to hurry me through. In my career as a dentist, my eyes are absolutely everything so I am forever grateful for her and her staff staying late to help me. I saw Dr. Liu in this office twice and had a bad experience both times. I was hoping that the first time was a fluke so I waited until after the second visit to write down a review. So the procedure is that you come in, wait to be called and then go into an office followed by a member of the office(not the actual ophthalmologist) that comes in and get your eye pressure checked and talk about the symptoms. So there was this lady named Rosie. She should have no business in any kind of job that interacts with patients. It's so rare for me to deal people who are supposed to be professional, who are actually so rude and mean. She would ask me about my eye and when I tried to answer her, she would interrupt me and literally shush me as she's typing. So I wait for her to give me an opportunity to answer again and I get a hand in my face. How rude is that?!?! It was a Monday for my first appointment and Rosie literally sits there and tells me how she's tired and spazzed out, wishing that she was anywhere but working. She told me that she didn't want to be there and I was just speechless. She's supposed to be helping me check my eyes out and she tells me she hates working. What?! Okay so that's what went bad the first time I went. Today was my second appointment and it was at 10:15. It's fairly early so you wouldn't expect any delays or that they would be behind on schedule. I didn't see Dr liu until 11:30!!! I waited half an hour just to be called on, then ten minutes into a room to have my eye pressure checked and then I waited outside for another 40 minutes. It was such a long wait it was absolutely ridiculous. I was in front of the sitting area where I'd see Dr. Longar go through five patients whilst we all waited for basically one patient to go by for Dr liu. All of us, the patients, were conversing about how long and ridiculous the wait was. So it's finally my turn and after checking out my eyes and me telling her how I've been feeling, she tells me I'm lying. Not to mention when she was checking my right eye and then my left, someone comes in to ask her about another patient and she was so distracted she stops checking it out. She spent like thirty seconds in my right eye and then like ten seconds on my left eye. She says what I'm exhibiting makes no sense, that there's no way I'm telling the truth and tries to make me feel stupid. And then...at the very end....she wants be to come back in two weeks. OH NO! I'm not coming back again, are you serious?! I'd rather go through the hassle of finding a new ophthalmologist than coming back to this terrible medical office. Even the lady at check out was rude. I asked her if I could just pay my copay instead of getting a bill and what not(let's try to not waste unnecessary resources, people) and she said okay. I'm getting my insurance card out and she apparently doesn't see me and just stares at her computer and demands that I give her the card IMMEDIATELY. Like how are people who are in customer service, treat CUSTOMERS that way?! She looked so bothered and irritated, waiting for me for ten seconds to give her my card. People don't mind waiting for good service. That's a fact! But the front office, the ophthalmologist and the check out people are all terrible....what are the chances? Update, July 13, 2019: After the experience below, the new glasses were blurry in one eye. Sight for Sore Eyes analyzed my old glasses, new glasses, prescription from Dr. Longar's office, and did their own exam. The prescription from Dr. Longar's office was wrong; my vision actually hasn't changed at all and my old glasses are still the right prescription. One star because: - They weren't good at the appointment stuff. - They didn't get my prescription right. - I'm out the expense of a second opinion. - My time spent dealing with things they didn't get right. Original review: I set up an appointment saying I needed an exam and new glasses. The exam was at 10:45. We finished the exam at 11:40. The person who handles glasses was out to lunch. The person at the desk said that I was free to wait in the waiting room until she returned at 1:15...an hour and a half wait. This is what making an appointment is supposed to avoid. I left. I am not complaining about someone needing a lunch break. The issue is the failure to look at the end to end patient experience. If someone wants an exam + glasses, then they should schedule the exam such that the glasses work can be started when the exam finishes. Scheduling an appointment which includes an hour and a half waiting for someone's lunch break is not appropriate. I took my prescription to Site for Sore Eyes in Serramonte, who helped me immediately. I am not sure if I will return. I prefer a one-stop shop. Dr. Longar did my cataract surgery one week apart on both eyes in 2014. I was so nervous but she was good at simplifying complex topics and good at making them easier to understand which made me feel at ease. I personally know two people who had theirs done by different ophthalmic surgeons but their experiences were not nearly as pleasant as mine. I recommend Dr. Susan Longar...an A-1 in my list of medical professionals. She's very caring, reassuring, and totally professional. read more

My left eye vision was initially blurred but generally improves a lot after 3 days & reported back to her to get my new glasses prescription. I've been at this Opthamalogist since Dr. Meshel was there in the late 80s... Since it was taken over, I definitely do NOT recommend going here! I have very bad eyes and need to be checked out for about 2 times in a year. The MDs are very sweet, but the staff needs to be updated! The reimbursement specialist will scrape every little penny from you regardless if you're insurance says that you're NOT suppose to pay. I reverified my benefits with my insurance 4 times with different reps and was told I wasn't suppose to pay. And he insisted that he needs a letter of proof, but my insurance says that they only go by authorization #s that would be the proof; he did not want this! So he refused to give me my new contacts and told me he was too busy to deal with me (I only spoke to him once!) Customer service sucks! I do NOT recommend! read more

I met Doctor Susan Longar in summer of 2005. At the time, I had had type I diabetes for forty years, and was completely blind in one eye, and legally blind in the other. I spent over two years in the dark, having been convinced by some public clinic Doctor that I would never see again. When I met Doctor Longar, she gave me a thorough examination, and told me that she thought she could probably fix the eye that was legally blind. She was going to take out a "very mature" (her words) cataract and replace my lens with an artificial lens. Two weeks later Doctor Longar performed a 20 min. ambulatory surgery procedure, and I was driving my car within a week! I see Doctor Longar every six months, and so far my eye is in a stable, vision-enabled state. The gratefulness that I have towards Doctor Longar will never leave me. PS - my only criticism of her office is that it consistently has a very long wait time. Long. Either agree with one other yelp or who reviewed this Doctor; I get the feeling that they do overbook, not realizing that sitting around with your eyes dilated for an hour in a boring hallway is no fun. read more

I know this is weird, but I've been coming to this office for over 7 years now and I've actually never been a patient of Dr. Longar. I have seen the other drs in the office, my favorite was Dr. Nguyen but I don't know why she moved on a couple of years ago. Overall, I'm happy with the care I receive here, thorough, (relatively) painless especially when they shine a piercing bright light into your dilated pupils. Billing has been hassle-free since they work directly with my insurance and help me max out my contact lens yearly allocation. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was when I referred my husband, they made him return 3 times to fit the same contact lenses that he had been wearing for years. Each time, he had to take a half day off from work since they only have "regular" office hours when everyone else has to work too. read more

I am a patient of Dr. Longar and recently had cataract surgery. I decided to get multifocal lens replacements. She had reservations because I had previously had Wavefront Lasik surgery and she said there can be problems with glare at night because of the Lasik. She was very thorough explaining the various lenses and which she would recommend and which she would never use. I've been keeping up with multifocal lenses, as I knew I would be needing surgery, and mentioned a new one I had heard about the called the Symphony. She said she hadn't done any surgeries with that lens yet, because it is very new, but she is qualified to use it, and would do some research and let me know if she could recommend them. After she read up on the lenses she said that they use a different technology that was particularly suited to my situation and that it would have better outcomes when it came to nighttime glare. She has a new machine which measures your eyes during the surgery to make sure she chooses the correct lens and I opted to pay the extra to have that procedure done. After getting my surgery, I went back to get measured and am now 20/20! I don't need glasses and can see near and far. I still need readers for very fine print, but overall my vision is excellent. There is some glare, but very slight and tolerable. read more

Waited 1 hour past my scheduled appointment and I had an early morning appointment. Their offices is always "closed" when i tried to call when clearly its within their operating hours. I wasn't sure what frame I wanted or if they would have enough options, but Cynthia went in the back and started to pull out tons of options. I must have tried on 50+ glasses while there.
