My experience with Bernd Kutzscher, MD in 2019 was a nightmare. Dr. Kutzscher should have honored his Hippocratic Oath and performed an eye exam as he was paid to do, billing insurance under the doctors' name while ignorant technicians are the ones doing the work of the MD is wrong, perhaps he should retire if he is tired of performing eyes exams. The technician assessed my eyes through an array of lenses and enter her data in the computer, Dr. Kutzscher came into the room, exchange pleasantries and signed off on the RX without preforming an eye exam. The new RX had a huge change and I was concerned. I bought 2 pairs (clear/dark = $1,400) of glasses with Kutzscher's optician. It took 4 weeks to get the glasses and when I got them, I had a horrendous pain in the eye with the huge change on the RX and had a hard time reading/seeing. I called several times to speak with Dr. Kutzscher, he finally returned my call and said my eyes needed to adjust to the new lenses and agreed to see me three weeks later. Once more the technician assessed my eyes through some lenses and asked me to read some charts which I did with lots of errors but she said it didn't matter. Dr. Kutzscher walked in the room read her notes in the computer and said to keep using the glasses until my eyes adjusted to the change, without performing an eye exam or regard for the pain that I was suffering. I asked him to change the RX, he said there is nothing wrong with the RX, but how does he know if he never performed the eye exam. He should have honored their re-do policy as offered at the time of purchase if the glasses didn't work. The office staff and the optician are very rude, perhaps they believe if they intimidate the clients, they get paid and the problem goes away. Five months later, since the pain continued and I couldn't read or see I went back to my previous eye MD, a true gem, who stands by his work. The doctor performed a comprehensive eye exam and said the pain on my eye was due to the wrong prescription. He assessed my eyes and wrote a new RX. He said if there is any problem, he will re-do my glasses at "no cost". My new RX was a gift sent from heaven I was able to see and read without pain. read more

I scheduled to see Dr. Kutzscher after suffering what seems to be an ocular migraine and wanted to confirm this. I was able to see him within the week after having the symptoms. The doctor himself had great manners, took his time to really understand my symptoms (unlike another ophthalmologist I had seen in the past who rushed me), and was also making conversation getting to know me and such. He was super friendly and professional but had to knock off a star due to wait time. My appointment was scheduled for 1:30PM and I waited until 2:20PM before he got to me. Probably because he is chatty and likes to get to know his patients...so scratch that I'm giving back the star. 5 STARS! Highly recommend! read more

Absolutely deserving of a 5 star rating. After calling many other LASIK providers, I seemed to be greeted with a lot of hesitation regarding financing, Flex Spending, and many just seemed to have a routine of people looking for price only. Although price was a concern, I was very serious about having the laser treatment done. Starting with Leslie (who was amazing to talk to) she explained everything about the treatment including financing options available. I was able to work with CreditCare, and use my Flexible Spending to cover the entire procedure. Dr Kutzcher is a great doctor to work with and I really felt like I was in good hands. He made sure the process went smoothly and took every effort to make sure that my healing process was comfortable. Although one eye was under corrected (intentionally due to aging and potentially needing reading glasses), my vision was expected to be 20/25 but after 6 months I was actually seeing 20/20. AMAZING!!! I cant stress enough how appreciative I am of the entire staff. This was a huge investment in my vision and they really made me feel that I made the right choice. I would like to give Dr. Kutzscher a gigantic thank you! He's amazing. Firstly, they were very accommodating. I didn't have much of a flexible schedule and they worked around it. Then I forgot to go to my appointment ( I wrote the wrong day on my calender.) They rescheduled me. When I got there for my rescheduled appointment, the entire staff ended up leaving and Dr. Kutzscher stayed and very patiently went through every question, etc.. that I had. Even though it was late and the rest of the office had gone home, I never felt rushed. Incredibly stellar service. The office is busy. Very professional. Lots of receptionists, patients, etc... great assitants. He was my third consultation visit. I checked out Dr. Huang at UCSF and he was great too. I also went the Pacific Vision Institute for my first consultation visit. I felt really comfortable on the surgery day. He was very reassuring during the procedure. I had some initial glare/cloudiness following the procedure, but that improved steadily every day. I hadn't been able to read the letter E on the eye chart for over 20 years without glasses or contacts. I have lost dozens of contact lenses surfing. After my Laser eye surgery I am seeing better than 20/15. Don't get your hopes up that you'll see this well, Dr. Kutzscher kept saying that I was having unusually great results. However, if you live in the bay area and you want this procedure I have done some serious research and I endorse Dr. Kutzscher very whole heartedly. It's been about six months since my procedure and the novelty has not worn off. I stand around all day long every day just marveling at all of the details that I have missed for the past 38 years of my life. Dr. Kutzcher did an amazing cornea transplant in my right eye about 10 years ago when I was in my early thirties. I've been going to him since then for all of my complicated eye needs. He is the only person who truly understands and is able to actively montitor and treat my condition--Keratoconus. (I've made the mistake of trying to go to other places to get some quick glasses and never fail to baffle the doctors.) If and when I ever have an eye concern, I just leave a message on his private voice mail and he calls me back promptly. He never forgets his surgical patients! He is not only a skilled surgeon but he's such a NICE man! He's sweet and attentive and sincere--on top of being brilliant in his field. Minus one star for the long wait that I experience almost every time I visit this office. That said, Dr K is totally worth it. read more

I would highly suggest Dr. Kutzscher for anything related to your eyes. In fact, I highly suggest that you do not go to anyone else. I do a lot of very active sports and he makes treatment recommendations that work well with my lifestyle. He is a skilled surgeon and clinician and has done CrystaLens cataract surgery for me in both eyes and some follow up Lasik, which I just got yesterday. I cannot recommend him enough. He has a wonderful bedside manner and -- if you ever want classical or jazz music recommendations, he's also your guy! I'm sending my brother to him too. read more

I am not a patient. I should say that up front - I wasn't able to get that far. My main annoyance is with the process of setting up a consultation. I went the website, booked an online appointment for a consultation (based on their advertised availability). Then I get a call that I need to call them to schedule an appointment, despite my request for email correspondence. (I admit, one of my *biggest* pet peeves are sites that offer online booking that require a follow up phone call -- that's the point of online booking - no phone needed!!) I called, and they not only do not honor the appointments booked through their website (that apparently just sends them notice, which induces them to call you to book an actual appointment), but Dr. Kutzscher is no longer performing Lasik. All of this could have been avoided had they maintained a functioning and up to date website. read more

I found Dr. Kutzscher through my primary eye doctor. I was looking for a LASIK surgeon and asked my doctor for a rec after being disappointed by two providers I researched on my own. Here's why I ultimately selected Dr. Kutzscher to perform my surgery: - He does all surgeries at Stanford's eye center. It's a top-notch facility and I felt much more comfortable going there, as opposed to other LASIK providers who perform the procedure in their offices. - His pricing structure is straightforward and fair. I'm a little skeptical of other providers who "upcharge" for the latest LASIK technology. Dr. Kutzscher provides all forms of LASIK at the same price and instead of focusing on how he can charge more money, focuses on finding the best option for your eyes. I appreciated that. Also, there were no hidden costs - all pre- and post-op appointments are included, as are any prescriptions required for post-op care. - He and his team were very responsive to my questions pre- and post-surgery. Leslie, in particular, was fantastic to work with and got me a pre-op appointment and surgery date in record time. - He's just a nice guy! No ego or attitude and he gave me the sense he genuinely cared for the long-term health of my eyes. I'm now seeing 20/20 and couldn't be happier with my decision to have LASIK. Offices are clean and well staffed. Dr. Kutzscher was very nice and both he and his assistants were very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. His office always seems busy but it is easy to get an appointment and I never felted rushed during and appointment. You may have to wait a bit for him. I had my consultation appointment in Daly City but the surgery was done at the Stanford Eye Center. I had the surgery in late April 2013. I was nervous during surgery, but Doc made sure I was comfortable and explained what was happening. Its been almost a month and I am seeing great. I was even able to drive myself to the follow up appointment the day after surgery. I did experience dry eyes, sensitive to light and night halos, but for only a couple of weeks and every day it gets better as does my vision. It is very expensive and a surgery performed on your eyes, but totally totally worth it!! read more

I recently had to have cataract surgery in both of my eyes and was referred to Dr. Kutzscher. I'm under 50 so the whole experience was a big surprise and quite traumatic for me. I just wanted to share with everyone that Dr. Kutzscher was fantastic. He was very informative, didn't patronize me as some doctors can do, he was patient and yet professional at the same time. LASIK has been the best decision of my life and I'm glad I went with a Dr. Kutzscher. Getting an appointment with him is difficult because there is a lot of demand for his services, but I would definitely say it's worth the wait. There was a complication on my right eye during the surgery (I have very twitch eyes) and Dr. Kutzscher did the smart thing and stopped the surgery rather than risk any permanent damage. Even though his schedule was packed, he was able to get me back into the laser center just 2 weeks later to finish off the procedure. It went off without a hitch this time and now I'm seeing 20/15! One of the best things about him is that he does his surgery out of the Stanford Laser Center but his office is in Daly City. Therefore, you get top of the line lasers but don't necessarily have to pay the premium associated with it. read more

Dr. Kutzscher is my hero. Years ago he detected something wrong with my optic nerve. He requested that my primary care physician send me for an MRI. It turned out that I had a brain tumor. It was removed and I'm doing fine. Still kicking and still seeing thanks to Dr. Kutzcher. I see him annually now. read more

Choosing a LASIK doctor is difficult, and it can be scary to commit. I did a whole lot of research, and went to a lot of consultations, from the 5k an eye, serve you Figi water and pastries in the lobby, to the 1200 an eye, perform the operation in a back alley type spots. I found Dr. Kutzscher and Pacific Eye Specialists to be the perfect medium. They aren't so cheap that you're forced to doubt the quality, or so expensive that you can tell you're paying extra for fancy brochures and brand new waiting room magazines. Do your homework; although he's not as easy to find when shopping for LASIK, Dr. Kutzscher has performed hundreds of successful operations, and does an exceptional job. The surgery itself is performed at the Stanford Laser Center which is as legit as it gets, and the process was as painless as it can possibly be, and completely successful. I went from being close to blind to seeing nearly 20/20, and it's hard not to take it for granted it was so easy. I'm delivering the maximum possible rating to Dr. Kutzscher because of his investment in not only the procedure itself, but the healing process. I'm really impressed with how he continues to monitor my progress over time, making sure that my vision is behaving exactly as I'd planned, and making sure I'm very educated about how your vision changes as the incisions on your eye heal. I've heard that with many practices, even really expensive ones, they only care about you until you pay and the surgery is complete, then you can't get anyone on the phone anymore. With Pacific Eye Specialists, I know help is a phone call away, and Leslie, their LASIK director was extremely available and helpful the whole time to answer any questions I had. I really enjoyed the experience at Pacific Eye Specialist. I've been learning about the eye procedure for over 10 years and watched the progress in the technology over the course of 15 years. I was hesitant to do it but I was curious even after all these years of waiting. Dr. Kutzscher was very patient with me answering all my questions. After all, a procedure like this on your eyes - your only pair of eyes - it's a very difficult thing to trust one person to handle it properly. Dr. Kutzscher was informative, very patient, and had a calm but sensitive demeanor. He understood that it was a big financial investment and wanted to make sure I understand all the risks before making any decision. His assistant (Leslie) was just as helpful in helping me understand the financial implications, options, and encouraged me to be open if I had any questions or concerns that she or Dr. K could address. During the procedure, Dr. K and all his assistants were very helpful in making sure I was comfortable. I was a little nervous but even during the procedure, he was kind enough to walk me through every step that he was doing. The facility was nice and I knew I was in good hands. After the procedure - all the follow-up appointments went well. I followed his very specific steps to take care of my eyes and still they followed-up on any questions I had after the procedures. I am glad to say my eyes can see very well and I had minimal complications after the procedure. ("minimal complications" meaning just minor dry eyes - which any refresh eye drops can alleviate! - no problem). Overall: Wonderful experience!! Doctor Kutszcher is AMAZING, he is very helpful, always care about his patients, and an excellent doctor. If I can give doctor Kutszcher more than 5 stars, I would definitely do. I am taking two points of because of the staff. The assistants and the front office staff do not want to help or even answer questions, they just want to find excuses, so they don't do their work and they do not really care. For example; I asked them if my insurance covers something, so they found plenty of excuses for me that that is impossible, so I called my insurance and it was completely the opposite of what they said. The thing is if the assistants said yes to me, they will have extra work!! And the assistant who did an eye's exam for a prescription, got really annoyed when I asked her some extra questions about my eyes, she did not really understand that people get curious about their health and would like to understand what they have. I wish if doctor Kutszcher has a better staff because he is truly amazing. read more

I began my LASIK search with my typical eye doctor in Burlingame and was quite disappointed at his lack of knowledge and overall passion for the field. I had my mind made up that I was going to get LASIK as soon as possible, but I wanted to make sure I had an experienced and successful doctor. I turned to Google and stumbled upon Pacific Eye Specialists and then went to Yelp to see what the patients thought. I loved what I saw on Yelp and decided to try to get a consultation. Leslie, the surgery coordinator, answered all my questions and was able to fit me in for a consultation the same day. This worked out perfectly with my schedule and I jumped on it. She was amazing! At the consultation they gave me a standard eye exam to figure out my prescription and they were very thorough. Dr. Kutzscher then came in and discussed the basic LASIK procedures and where I would fit in. He was extremely nice and very thorough in his explanation. I could tell that he knew what he was doing and I loved that! This is the amazing part: Leslie was able to fit me in for LASIK the very next Monday afternoon even with their EXTREMELY packed schedule. My schedule was tight as well and they really worked with me to make sure I was happy. I don't think there are too many doctors offices out there like this one. The actual surgery takes place at Stanford Eye Center which was another huge element of why I went with Dr. Kutzscher. As most people know, Stanford has the best technology and that's exactly what I was going for. The day of the surgery was easy. Dr. Kutzscher spoke throughout the entire surgery, letting me know what was happening each step of the way. He made me feel relaxed and I completely trusted him with my eyes after just meeting him one time for the consultation. There was no pain during or after surgery and honestly, I was amazed. Long story short, my eyes are perfect. I had the surgery late Monday afternoon and today, Wednesday-- I'm seeing perfect. I don't know what else to say except that if you are looking for LASIK, get it done with Dr. Kutzscher. Dr. Bernd Kutzscher is your guy! I am so fortunate that he has been my (and my family's) eye doctor throughout my entire life. He has watched me (and my eyes) grow up through the years and through glasses and then most recently, through Lasik eye surgery. I look forward to my annual appointment every time. Dr. Kutzscher is someone who genuinely is interested in not only your eye health but your life and what is going on in it. He is such a kind and thoughtful person who truly cares about his patients. He takes the time to have a conversation and check in with you, which is becoming more rare these days in doctor's offices. His staff knows me and they all have the best "customer service" I've ever experienced at a doctor's office. I decided to get Lasik eye surgery 9 months ago and I don't think I would have done it if it weren't for Dr. Kutzscher. I am someone who avoids surgery at all costs and am hyper-sensitive to pain. He knows this about me and took so much time and care with me through the 45 minute procedure (yes, it's sooo short!). He is the top of his field and it showed during the surgery. He not only explained every step so that I knew what was going on minute by minute but he kept checking in with me to see how I was feeling. I felt so safe in his expert hands and amazing care that if that's what you're looking for, you've found it. I didn't even really "need" Lasik considering my prescriptions were -1.5 in both eyes. But I hated having to always wear contacts and glasses and because I trusted him so much, I decided to do it. It was the BEST decision and gift I have EVER given myself. I'm fond of telling everybody that in 1979 I received a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Artist's Fellowship Grant in Sculpture [ The BIG one, OK, so not as big as a MacArthur, but it's U.S. Grade 'A' Government verification of artistic status in our culture and everybody knows that the U.S. Government is never known to be wrong. Right on brother John ! ] and that same year my son Neal Edward A. was born (NEA). How about them apples. So folks the eyes have it. They are muy importante to this dude. Can't afford to do both eyes? Approx $2,000.00 / eye. He'll do one if you're a good candidate. Take it from me "You won't be sharking or slicing your drives off the first tee at Pebble Beach. Nothing is perfect, but this Lasik process with Bernd at the helm of the mighty Stanford lasers is about as good as it gets. I had this procedure done about 3 years ago, although I can't quite say that I can spot breast augmentation a mile away I have no complaints. I TRUST this guy. He is very personable and thorough The actual procedure is a 'cake walk'. Perceivable results are super fast. If you're in the market to plunk down some doe and fix that broken down body that your beautiful mind is housed in, then this is it, Put down that bloody knife and see the laser light. read more

I waited 1 1/2 hours to see the doctor in this Office and they think that THEIR TIME IS MORE IMPORTANT THAT THEIR PATIENT'S. they deserve to have a NEGATIVE 5 STAR.
