Inside the store, Tim was super friendly and assured me that the funky frames I wanted actually fit me well. He shared that Eye Candy takes pride in finding unique frames from all over... This means they are not just offering the latest frames from manufacturers; their collection is lovingly curated, irregardless of what's currently available everywhere else, and it shows! Note to budget conscious shoppers: An entire case is devoted to $50 frames, and FSA payments are accepted. My prescription was handled perfectly, and I keep getting compliments on my new sunglasses! I had the best experience at Eye Candy. After confirming an appointment at a neighboring eye doctor's (For Eyes at 16th & Walnut) and showing up only to have them have no record of my appointment, despite e-mail confirmation, and not being able to fit me into their examination schedule, I did a local search and found Eye Candy. The gentleman at the front desk was welcoming and able to get me into an appointment the very next day. I met with Dr. Wu who is AMAZING as a professional and very caring with her patients. I will be coming back to Eye Candy next week for a health evaluation and will keep coming back as the experience was 100. read more

I just left Eye Candy so happy! I practically danced my way out. After going to 4 other nearby frame shops and trying on probably over 100 pairs of glasses and being unimpressed, I stopped in Eye candy on a whim/last resort and fell in love with the first two frames I tried on. When I found out the price, I realized I could buy BOTH for less than the price of one pair from the other stores! And then I was told that the frames are 70% off when you get the lenses there. So I got two pairs of frames WITH my prescription lenses for under $500, which was the price of one - frame ONLY - at every other place I had been to! Yet not sacrificing style or quality. I am sooo happy I stopped in here, and will do all of my shopping here and refer all my friends/family who are in the market for new frames! read more

I am not a frequent reviewer, so when I write one, I mean it! I went to Eye Candy for an eye exam and ordered glasses (and soon contacts) through them. The experience has been nothing short of fantastic. Both the eye doc and the receptionist/glasses guru are great. It is a small operation and they seem to be handling COVID-19 precations very well. I felt safe both in the small exam room (the doctor wore a serious mask/respirator situation) and while trying on glasses (my partner and I were the only customers in the store and they cleaned all the frames after I tried them). The receptionist/glasses guru (Tim?) was also really patient with me figuring out insurance stuff. Their prices are excellent, their frames are fun, and the people are warm and helpful. At other eye docs in Philly I have had mediocre or downright crappy experiences, but Eye Candy left me thoroughly pleased! Thanks, Eye Candy! read more

I really had a good time at Eye Candy. The doctor was very friendly, the front-end staff (Tim) was very helpful, and overall I had a very pleasant appointment. They have some really cool glasses, some really weird glasses, and some "I'd never be caught dead in those" glasses. Best part, if they don't carry what you want they'll order them! Woo-hoo! I like Eye Candy... I've been there a few times now. I bought my favorite pair of Kate Spade glasses there a few years ago and am currently having the lenses changed. I have also had my eyes examined there without a problem. The guy who is always in the front is very, very helpful --and patient! He took the time to help me find frames that were right for my face and lifestyle, and he didn't once seem fed up that I was trying on dozens of pairs of glasses. First, there hours are wrong on their yelp page - ergo why it says that the business is closed. Obviously management doesn't care too much about their social media networking or profiles. Secondly, I called to make an appt for an eye exam being that they were the closest to my office. They said that they only see patients on Wednesdays and their next availability is on September 4. Yeah, I'm not trying to wait three weeks to see an eye doctor. I've never heard of an office that sees patients only once a week. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I've been to Eye Candy for two eye exams and three frames. Let me preface by saying I moved to Philly a few years ago and this is where my partner established our eye care. Tim was great! Friendly, helpful and really nice. I didn't get a vibe of him being pretentious at all, as mentioned in a previous review. However, the young lady who sits at the front desk when Tim is not there really needs to learn some grammar! Eye Candy is a very small space with a lot going on. Initial exams are done at a small table outside of the "real" exam room (which is also tiny but suitable). Initial exam takes place in the "foyer" of the exam room at a VERY small table with the chair for the exam smashed up against the wall. A person of any size would not be able to fit in this area. My eye exam was with Doctor Kim. I felt both of my exams were thorough but I wish I been given a heads up that my pupils would be dilated that day in order for me to be prepared to bring dark sunglasses. The walk back from 20th to 15th was excruciating. Let me go back two years... The first glasses I got two years ago seemed REALLY strong for my vision. I could never see clearly out of them and they gave me headaches if I wore them for any length of time. In fact, I think I've worn them 2-3 times in the past two years. Later that same year I brought in a frame that I had previously purchased a few years ago prior to moving to Philly and had Eye Candy put new lenses in them. This pair seemed like a totally different prescription that was much more kind to my vision although the same exact prescription was used. Today's exam showed that my prescription increased slightly so I needed to get new lenses. Let me mention here that I'm an eyeglass WHORE! Like, I would sell my body in order to have enough money to pay for cool frames if I had to. I'd sleep with the owners dog and let his cat watch us if that's what it took! I LOVE cool frames and I'm willing to spend $1,000 on a pair of great glasses. The selection of frames that my insurance covers is really basic. Anything beyond that selection is at my own expense, which I have no issue with...at all! However, the insurance selection is what you see everyone else wearing and nothing unique. The other options within the store didn't impress me. Sure they had some twisted metals and some with glitter but I didn't see any frames that spoke to me and said "stylish". The closest thing I saw to stylish frames were very graphic patterned frames that screamed "1982" and were more gaudy than stylish. I wouldn't wear them even as sunglasses let alone daily frames. So, I mentioned to Kate (a woman who I believe runs their other location who was filling in for Tim this day) that I found a frame from "l.a. eyeworks" that I really loved. I printed out the stock number and the Internet image for Eye Candy but was told they could not get them. They did have a pair from Rayban that was close but they didn't have the cool orange frame with brown accent "arms". The Raybans, in comparison to the l.a. eyeworks frames had a slight tilt to the shape and when I mentioned this, Kate said that was just "a simple adjustment", as if I were allowed to bend and reshape the display frames. Sorry, but the Raybans felt really cheap in comparison to the l.a. eyeworks frames that I found at Optique. (See my Optique review) I opted to purchase the frames covered by my insurance at Eye Candy and then continue over to Optique for the other frames I loved. The Eye Candy frames that I chose had no plastic lenses in them, which is what is used for marking the focal point of your eyes. I'm six feet tall, Kate was likely five feet, three. There was no fitting area, nor a table to use so Kate asked me to squat down to her level. She scrounged around on the desk and pulled out a small ruler from the same bin as where they kept the pens and pencils and proceeded to slap it against my frames to get a measurement for the focal point of my lenses. This seemed highly irregular to me quite "un-scientific" but then it started to occur to me that perhaps this is why my previous lenses were so annoying to wear. With those particular lenses in the first pair I got two years ago, I have to turn my head slightly to the right and look out of the left half of the lenses in order to see clearly. I think that Kate was offended (or at least she seemed that way) that I didn't opt for the Raybans and only purchased the frames my insurance covered. I walked to Optique and picked up the other frames but they had to call Eye Candy for my prescription...it seems that there was no trouble doing that when Rob from Optique placed the call. In all, I spent $153 at Eye Candy and another $861 at Optique. Had Eye Candy had a more up-to-date selection of frames, that one thousand dollars would have been theirs. I feel terrible posting that but I'm hoping that Eye Candy will read this review and take notice. Sor read more

I have a pair of RayBan sunglasses which kept breaking- the screw would come loose on the left side and the lens would fall out. This last time I lost the screw in the street and decided to stop in Eye Candy and see if it could be repaired. I was helped right away and an improved screw was placed in the frame free of charge. Based on the friendly assistance I received when I walked in off the street on a hot Saturday afternoon, I will certainly return. read more

I highly recommend Eye Candy Vision to anyone interested in purchasing new glasses! Tim was such a pleasure to work with that I HAD to take the time to write a review. He went above and beyond to help me with my issue. After receiving my glasses, I felt like the lenses looked thicker than expected. When I emailed Eye Candy about this, Tim contacted me right away and said he would look into things. He let me know my eye insurance provider requires they use their own lab for eyeglass orders. Tim stated that although thinner lenses are available, my insurance doesn't provide them. He offered to make lenses in the Eye Candy lab and only charge me for the difference in what they charge and what I already paid for the other lenses. How nice of him!! Also, Tim went ahead and ordered new blank lenses so I could see the difference in thickness without me even asking him to do so. Again, how nice!! Overall, I really appreciated the time and effort Tim took to "please the customer." I will definitely go back to Eye Candy Vision when I need new glasses and have recommended them to my friends. Not only did Tim repair my frame for me for free, but he never once tried to sell me anything. While he was repairing my frame I, of course browsed he shop and tried on a few things, but once he repaired my frame and I found out they were fine, he actually said my old frames were as good as new. I seriously will never go anywhere else for my eye glasses. It's a tiny little hole in the wall shop, but they have everything one could possibly need or want in an optical store. read more

This place appeared to be trying to compete with Modern Eye. When I called to schedule my appointment the man that answered the phone was extremely prententious. (I know I called Rittenhouse but still not necessary.) The doctor was fine no positive nor negative, I got an eye exam and I got a perscription. I would have loved to have gotten glasses there however there options were either extremely wild or all the same. Side note: If you go there make sure you go to the restroom first because their bathroom is upstairs in the apartment building and in a laundry room, with no soap. Good luck. read more

This store submits false insurance claims and does not conduct complete insurance eye exams. I was only given a contact lens "fitting" (and was charged for it) and asked to read an eye chart. The health of my eyes was never checked - pressure for glaucoma, etc.yet they filed to my insurance for a full eye exam. I did not realize I had been scammed until I contacted my insurance company. I am still trying to get my benefits reinstated. They also immediately submitted a claim to my insurance for my $100 allowance of contact lenses even though they told me wait 1 week before I picked up the Rx and try the test pair, and that I could buy them from anywhere I wanted. READ OTHER REVIEWS AND YOU WILL SEE THIS SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS. I have had to fight this with my insurance to get my benefits reinstated. This all happened as recent as early March 2016 when I went in. I live in the neighborhood and like to frequent local businesses, but this business does not operate truthfully, therefore, I would not recommend it. I am not dealing with the business owner directly as I do not trust him and am going through my insurance directly only. They are extremely accomodating, and very helpful when it comes to making that all-important decision of which frames to choose. I recently went to them for my eye exam after having a horrible experience at another eye doctor in the city, and I couldn't have been more pleased. My appointment was quick, the doctor recommended a new, more comfortable brand of contacts, and when there was a minor discrepency on the price, Tim was super flexible and gave me the original price I was quoted. I have been to Eye Candy a few times and my experience at was nothing short of fantastic. Tim was very helpful in helping me pick out my frames, he was very patient and understanding as I was very indecisive about the frames but that did not faze Tim as he helped me find a frame that I was happy with. They have a great selection, there are frames for everyone, some really cool frames and some for people like me who are just looking for a more traditional look. I chose Eye Candy Vision because of it's proximity to my work, and because it's covered under my insurance. I have gotten glasses from here as well as contacts. Every appointment has been a struggle and I've found the customer service completely lacking. The lady who taught me how to put in contacts, while very nice, was extremely unhelpful and I learned more about putting in contacts off of a youtube video. When I first ordered my glasses, no one called me to tell me they were ready. I finally called and they said they've been sitting there for weeks. The bathroom is in a utility closet in another building. I have many more examples of poor customer service, but I would rather simply say I have felt extremely frustrated in every interaction I've had with Eye Candy. I generally like to support local business, but in this case, I've got to admit going to Sears Vision or the like, and ordering contacts online has been so much easier than going to Eye Candy. read more
