It took a while to get to us, since he was coming from Marathon, but he was really friendly and a genuinely nice guy. Because we had AAA, the tow into Alpine didn't cost anything. We were driving a VW Jetta, which is apparently an incredibly difficult car to get fixed in smaller towns, but he called around to a few places on his phone for us and found one of his friends in Alpine who had a garage and was willing to work on our car. If you have to break down in the middle of the desert, Sixto is the man to call.

And wait we did. For 90 minutes! Ok, I drove to a quiet spot and took a nap until after the lunch hour. Surprisingly the lunch hour is generous out here in west Texas. It was an hour and a half later before someone unlocked the gas station and turned on the pumps. They were extremely friendly and personally knew everyone. So, in case you read Yelp Gas station reviews: this is a 'business hours only' type gas filling station.
