This is a nice place. I understand why they have electric order kiosks, but I still don't like them. Sure it allows them to be able to hire less staff. They often cause delays and customer frustration. The store has a nice selection that are reasonably overpriced.

Good quality chicken but the seasoning & flavor was lacking. Needed the hot sauce. 7/10 Tried the biscuit next. It was hot. Crispy on the outside, soft & fluffy on the inside. But lacking in buttermilk or butter and salt. The texture was good but flavor, lacking. 6/10 Coleslaw....just bad. Thick and creamy full of mayo. A bit sweet. Crunch initially but cause of so much thick sauce, started to get soft. 1/10 "Western" Fries... not good. Coated in seasoning with no flavor. Flabby and not soft & fluffy inside. Bad. 0.5/10 Fried chicken. Crispy outer coating but again, lacking in seasonings (herbs & spices). The breast was hot but dry. Maybe sat around. Wings were better but again, lacked seasoning. 5/10 This was not the Royal Farms experience I remembered in Frederick, Maryland. Maybe just the location was the issue. Can't imagine it was Royal Farms as a whole. Might needed a surprise taste/quality check once in a while to keep the location honest & consistent. Food is edible but barely. Sheetz had their own brand of Vodka Soda and the peach ring caught my eye. When I went inside, I saw they had Peach AND Watermelon, and if there's anything I love that's fake, it's knock-off Sam's Choice Diet Cola, and fake watermelon flavor. I couldn't decide, and they were 2 for $6 so I bought both. Once in my hotel room a few miles away, I cracked open the peach and it was delicious. Like any "seltzer" product, it could have used more flavor, but I enjoyed it. Same with the watermelon. It was great but needed a bit of a punch to it. These Sheetz products helped me get some good Zzzzzzz's that night for sure. That's what they do, though!

I'm liking the modern look they are going for, but I am kind of sad that you don't get to see that familiar, rounded awning. With me being near the end of my trip for this, I made sure that this stop would be for drink. My objective was to get some sweet tea, and sweet tea only. That doesn't mean I wasn't distracted by other items within. It was a true test to my willpower. I stuck to my objective and got my tea and, to the best of my ability, made my way to the checkout. I was happy to see that they had the self checkouts. Makes it easier if you are only getting a drink. Tapped on that screen, scanned my reward card via my phone, and I was out the door. With that, I was on my way to the next location, and last location on this trek.

The sampler we chose came with mozzarella sticks, chicken bites, and mac n cheese bites for around $5, which is a steal. The burger was about $6 once I added cheese, but the base price is around $4.99--super cheap. The brisket melt was also $4.99. We grabbed bottled drinks too, which were around $2-$3. Overall, very affordable and a lot of food for the price. The burger itself was pretty mediocre--tasted like a frozen Costco patty. The brisket melt was okay, but the seasoning was whatever and the bagel bun was tough since it wasn't toasted. Still better than the burger, but nothing special. Now the appetizers... those carried the whole meal. The chicken bites had too much breading, so I probably wouldn't get those again. But the mozzarella sticks were honestly some of the best I've had. And the fried mac n cheese bites were a risky pick, but they paid off--they had Kraft-style noodles with perfect breading. If you like Kraft mac n cheese (which I do), they were amazing. Overall, eating dinner from a gas station was a gamble, but it ended up being worth it. The main meals were mediocre, but the appetizers--especially the mozzarella sticks and mac n cheese bites--totally made up for it. I'd go back just for those.
