So just recieved a notice that my storage unit, 10x15 was going from $215 per month to $315 per month. @ $215 per month that is borderline crazy...$315 is ridiculous. The funny thing is that the 1st sentence in the notice was "Thanks for choosing Extra Space to keep your belongings safe!" What a joke, its been broken into twice and anything of value has been stolen. Now they don't answer their phones,,,time to move out. I have stored my tools in a unit since August of 2022 and last month someone with a gate code got into the facility pried open a door to the building with my storage unit in it. And drilled out the lock on my unit. This happened between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. the thieves must of taken their time going thru my unit. When I went to my storage about 11 a.m (I get my tools everyday and take them back every night) I realized my unit had been broken into because there was no lock on my unit just a pile of metal shavings on the ground. I reported the theft to the on site manager and he went and looked at it and I Called the non emergency number for the police. I asked the manager to look at the video and he did. He saw someone use a gate code(not mine) and enter the premises and pop open the outer door to my building with a bar and there are no cameras inside the building but he said they carried out a bunch of tools and put them In a van. But that was all he said and u asked to see the video and he said I couldn't and the police would have to get a warrant. I got a case number when the officer showed up and submitted that to the insurance company along with a list of the tools that were stolen. About a week later the adjuster sent an email saying the check was mailed. I got the check a few days after and deposited it in the bank at around 11 a.m. and at 2:30 i got a notification on my banking app that said they were unable to process the check. I had to wait til monday to talk to someone at the bank and they said the check was fraudulent. I contacted the storage facility and the insurance company(who by the way is owned by extra space storage and the insurance is ESIS a chubb company ESIS i a guessing must stand for extra space insurance scam) because jake schuelke the adjuster said o. No the check wasnt fraudulent. Why would my bank wells fargo not even process it? So thhen he says they can send another check or do an electronic funds transfer. So i opted for the transfer. The staff at Extra Space Storage have been very helpful to me on more than one occasion. I had to replace my credit card and I didn't realize I'd missed my auto payment. I got a friendly call from a lady telling me that I was two days late. I was so glad because I didn't want to pay a late fee. Thanks for the courtesy call. read more

Our unit was recently broken into. It was discovered by the manager on February 1st, and we were contacted on February 5th by phone. They indicated that they tried to call and left a message however I do not have any missed calls or voice messages from them, and they do have my email address and did not try to contact me by email. The office staff has been very helpful in answering questions and letting us know how to proceed with the insurance company. The hallway doors to some units do not work properly and do not shut correctly allowing access to hallway units even though they installed keypads which did not prevent them from getting in. I was told that the camera system is motion sensing and that it did not pick up any activity even though they cut through the fence directly in front of the camera. I was also told they wouldn't be able to make out faces or images since the cameras are so bad. We have been renting for only 5 months here and because of this bread in, we have purchased a storage shed for home as I don't feel that we can trust that our belongings will be safe at this location any longer read more

I have seen glowing and positive reports and reviews about Extra Space Storage (ESS). I am only guessing they are really ESS employees writing them, or, they dont allow negative reviews about their company. Hence the 5 star rating. Why do I say that? Recently, my storage space was burglarized. That in itself was troubling. But even more troubling was how the ESS site manager and the ESS management handled my unfortunate situation. The site manger called me 12 HOURS after the incident and they DID NOT call me after they found out about the incident. They called me BEFORE the police was called. That was not the end of it. I had to call the police, they would not!! When I got to my unit, my stuff was being moved to clear a path when the police said not to move or touch anything. I asked for another unit to secure my stuff after the police were finished and they said NO. And then I asked for a truck to move my stuff to another ESS storage facility and they said NO, their insurance wouldnt cover that situation. I told the manager I wanted to talk with someone in the company that could actually help me, and the site manager said they had no direct line to the upper management. I knew it was a publicly traded company, so I looked it up in 5 mins. I talked to the district manager and all he could do is offer me a free month (when the banner on the fence already gives a free month to new customers) so he basically offered me nothing for my trouble and losing irreplaceable items and about $3,500+. No help in filing the insurance claim or police claim. Nothing. I was on my own. They have poor security as they leave the doors to the indoor units open 24 hrs even though they close their gates at 10pm. The coded gate is NOT the only way in or out as they have another gate tied up with a chain and a lock. That is how the burglars escaped with my goods. AND, they DO NOT enforce the NO TAILGATING rule. Almost everytime I went in or out, a car, bicycle or person on foot went in on MY code. They have very lax security and I will bet they are going to get hit again because of it. After seeing what good training looks like, I can say the managers at ESS are poorly trained and not helpful at all. This company could care less about you AFTER you move in. Needless to say, I will never do business with this company again, I will never recommend them to anyone and even dissuade them from using ESS. read more

We had an unexpected situation of the loss of our residence and needed a larger space we could afford. He was able to accommodate us and showed a space that was already clean and we were able to move in immediately. Moved in town for college and needed a storage unit and after shopping around, I finally gave in to this one. I'm a broke college student so money is definitely an issue, but I was able to get a really good deal. 1 month is really not free because you gotta purchase a lock, deposit and insurance, but the monthly rent was reasonable. The grounds were always really clean, the staff gave top notch service and I felt secure the entire time I was there. Will definitely rent from them again. read more
