Before I tear into this company's shady business shenanigans, I just want to say that Paul Hirsch, the assistant manager, is a pretty nice guy. It's a shame he has to work with such a questionable company. Everything started great with a phone call to the general customer service number. They assured me that if I were to get a unit on the second floor, every Extra Space storage has a large elevator for large furniture. Take them at their word, right? First thing I see when I get to the facility is a BIG sign saying "FIRST MONTH FREE!" Awesome, I thought to myself. Turns out that no, the first month isn't free. That there is an asterisk saying "see manager for details." Apparently, the details are that the first month is not free, and that little asterisk allows them to legally keep the sign up. Okay. Despite this huge red flag, I go to see the unit. First thing I notice is the elevator. Motel 6 has a larger elevator. I'm told that there are stairs I can take for large furniture. Definitely not what I was assured of over the phone. When I bring this up in the office, another employee (perhaps the property manager?) told me that their elevator is larger than at most other properties. Good to know. Long story short, the locations put up misleading signs in an attempt to entice future renters (bait and switch), and the elevators are not even close to large enough for furniture. Wasn't the happiest person walking in to get a unit but the guy in the office was really cool and super helpful. I didn't know how big any of he units were so he took my dog and I for a little ride on the cart. I guess he was watching me on the cameras when I thought I was at the right building. Luckily he caught me before i took the elevator. Thank him so much for that. He pointed me to the next building and said it was the last one. Kinda felt dumb but that's normal. Especially when you aren't a happy camper about being there in the first place. I left feeling content and if I had to get a storage again then I'd probably come here. read more

I am writing about a recent experience where, on a Sunday, at the facility in Santa Fe Springs on Slauson, I had a huge problem ( my lock got stuck on my unit door). I went into a panic. Since it was a Sunday, the office was closed but I thought maybe someone might be around. A woman came out on the balcony and said that her husband was not there at the moment and while I was explaining my situation to her, by the grace of God, her husband was driving onto the premises. She very kindly pointed him out to me. I rushed over to him, still in a panic, and he parked the car and quickly accompanied me to my unit where he was most generously helpful in getting the situation resolved. His name is Kevin and he is terrific. He was calm, helpful, generous with his time....on his day off...and was a Godsend. Kevin and his wife, Tina, are superb. They saved the day. read more

I've been with Extra Space Storage in Santa Fe Springs for 7 years. I've rented extra Space Storage near my place few times but I always come back in this location. Reasons are, managers and workers are great. Very helpful, friendly, and great of calling you in case you forgot your payment to avoid late charge fee. Awesome right?! Also for few months I was out of work they understood my situation and gave me time to pay my Storage when I can without harassing me everyday. I highly recommend this place. My mother and I have used their facility and are very pleased with the upkeep and security we feel being there. No critter problems and our items remain intact. Love that. I was a little taken aback with extra fees and am aware that their rates seem to go up every 6 months. However I was happy that i was able to take advantage of the first month half off deal. I never needed a storage space until I sold my house before I could find a new house to move into. Jose answered all my questions and concerns about a storage space. He also showed me what he had available and what my house hold belongings could fit into. He was very nice and made me feel comfortable about storing my belongings until I could find a new home. I rented a unit for 3 months. Never had any problems and loved the early morning hours. If I ever need to store my belongings again this will be the first place I go. read more

Renter beware. This place has a thief either working for them or associated with them. When Paul was the previous property manager, we never had a issue and I felt comfortable storing our things there. We had that unit with him for almost 2 years. When we closed out, we were satisfied. This past august we had to get a unit again and naturally went back there. Paul was no longer there, instead it's Christina. She was not where near as good or professional as Paul but we still thought we'd be okay there. Well 12/20 someone broke into our unit, ransacked everything and made off with all my kids Christmas gifts as well as other toys and clothes we had stored there. These people managed to pick the lock, rummage through everything and make off with our stuff. They even locked the unit back up. We didn't know until we opened the unit door and saw our things in disarray, boxes torn open and totes missing. They also left behind a backpack of their tools which I assume is what they used to get in. But Christina absolutely cared less when my husband informed her. I honestly feel this person either had a master key to the unit or someone let him/her in. To make matters worse, extra space doesn't care, the police don't care and the terrible insurance that we are forced to purchase doesn't care. Basically telling us that a picked lock isn't considered breaking in...its a mysterious disappearance and most likely will deny our claim. We are out the money for the rent, out the money for that useless insurance, out the money for the Christmas we had purchased plus the cost of replacing them in time for Christmas, out the cost of the things we will have to replace not to mention out the stuff that can't be replaced such as the clothes I brought my babies home in from the hospital. Do not rent here. Someone broke into our storage and stole all of our kids Christmas gifts. There was no visible damage to the door or lock but somehow got in and left a backpack full of tools inside and locked up behind themselves. The police took the tools to "fingerprint" which I doubt they will and the "insurance" that they insist you buy won't cover because there was no forced entry. So in their words it's not a break-in and they don't have to cover our loss, so not only did I have to rush to the store just a couple days before Christmas and buy all my kids gifts again, some piece of shit was able to give their kids a Christmas on my dime. They also stole a bunch of other of my kid's toys that we still have to replace, again on our dime. I'm convinced now that it was an inside job and the manager or workers there are involved. read more

I have gotten storage before at the locations on Washington blvd but this place feels better. I'm very impressed that this storage is better then those with cheaper prices per month and very very clean. I looked online to get mine a 5X10 for $63 and $13 for insurance so $76 a month, now that's a deal. But when I went in to fill out paperwork I met up with Jose and he was helpful down to the wire from putting my pin in for the gate to putting the lock on. Jose didn't pressure you to do anything. I think alone if you see the location and met up with Jose you would feel welcomed and know that your stuff would be taken care of. Rent keeps going up and I never get notice. I've been here not even 2 years and it went from 72 to 82 in 2 months. Then all of a sudden it was 89. Now it's 107! $35 more so far and nothing's different or improved. I will be moving my stuff out soon because this pricing is ridiculous not to mention they just keep raising it. read more

The price they give you online is not the price when you get there. They add on mandatory monthly insurance, and you have to buy their lock for the space. I got out and into another space within a few days. I would not have even put the stuff there if I had more time :-/ read more
