Everything was easy from start to finish. Reserved unit online and paid and signed contract. Received access immediately. Purchased a lock from them and it was waiting in my unit as promised. Signed up for auto pay and that was smooth. Only thing that threw me was the huge increase in monthly fee after first 3 months. They did send a post card 30 days prior but still a shock but it just motivated me to tend to my storage quicker and move out All in all, 5 stars because it was just so easy and convenient and Mary the site manager is the kindest person to talk to and deal with! read more

I saw an advertised price for a unit at $50 and spent over an hour on the phone with a representative to confirm it. I even PAID for the unit over the phone and cleared out my old storage space to move in. When I arrived, they refused to honor the $50 price I already paid and tried to force me into a $300 rate instead. When I asked them to give me the unit I had a reservation for, they completely ignored me and tried to send me to a different location miles away. The staff on-site was incredibly rude and unprofessional. When I asked to speak to a district manager to resolve the lie, they refused to help. To make matters worse, it took 3 days just to get my refund back. They lure you in with fake prices, take your money, and then leave you stranded with your belongings and no unit. That place is horrible-- The old storage place that was here before this had great management and then Extra Space acquired them last year and they are awful now-- gate access is frequently broken and they raise the rate way up after you are in there a few months... there are many more reliable and affordable options in the area.... I am not a complainer but the price gets jacked up and they say they notify you. Not once did I receive snail mail or an email stating they would be doing this. We got this storage unit July 2019 and it is August 2021, our price went from $119 a month to $220 in 2 years. I will offer it is clean, the staff (when there) are very kind and helpful and well secured. read more

We have had a unit here for years, everyone has always been friendly until there is a billing discrepancy. Our monthly invoice increased by $80 and when I called to inquire all I got was a rude response by Mary and to top it off she hung up on me. This will be our last month there. read more

Mary is unprofessionally intrusive, rude, nosey, she could easily see I had a unit at this establishment and I was given all paperwork at the time of rental two months prior. Yet in still she wanted all my information as she tried to play Encyclopedia Brown because she didn't know who I was. She was trying to make small talk but it was so fake I had to ignore her and pray she didn't call the police on me. She definitely needs diversity training and cultural awareness training. We shopped around searching for a storage facility that offered a fair price, but what we found at Extra Space storage is far beyond that... For more than just a fair price, this facility offers indoor units, outdoor drive-up units, and even smaller locker units, all with very ample storage space; recreational vehicle storage; climate control, packing supplies, trucks with lift gates and ramps, high tech security, convenient, easy access, easy payment plans, a user-friendly website, and the gem of all selling points ~ a super friendly staff willing to go above and beyond in Customer Service! Frankly, every other place we checked out was a dump, and more often than not, the staff were rude drones who clearly couldn't wait to punch the clock and just go home. Even the managers of some of these places really didn't appear to care about much more than making easy money by housing our personal property month after month. You could see the dollar signs in their eyes. The only time any sense of so-called customer service ever seeped through at the other storage places was typically while discussing rates; as if the insincere smile and randomly perky tone of voice from some smarmy storage slum lord has the power to make me lose my sense and sensibilities! Pretty worn for the wear after having exhausted ourselves looking for "a better deal", we were more than pleasantly surprised by not only by our first experience with Extra Space storage, but even after that initial phone call - we've had nothing but positive experiences just as often as we've had the pleasure of doing business with anyone at their site! What's more is that we've moved 2 towns over, but our storage stayed in Round Lake at Extra Space storage. That should tell you something! In my opinion, the "Extra" in the company's name isn't just about the storage space you'll get; it's stands for all the EXTRA satisfaction, service, convenience, and money you'll save! If you'd like that little extra something in the otherwise bland world of storage, it's my pleasure to recommend Extra Space Storage for all you'll ever need in finding a home away from home for your stuff! My husband and I have been looking for storage and after reading about extra space storage and the yelp reviews I was a bit hesitant, but glad I did not let any bad review stop me as my experience was absolutely great! I cannot say enough about this company. We chose this location when we moved out of Lake Villa because it was close by. Mary was with me from day 1 with outstanding customer service. She understood the stress of my move, and my budget. She did not try to sell me anything I did not need and in fact probably saved my things: I wanted an outside unit but because of my wood furniture it was better protected in climate control. I had no idea this was a factor and am so grateful to her for her education on how to save the most and keep my things secure and in great condition. It's very state of the art there with monitors and passcode entries times 2, and I sleep like a baby not worrying about my personal belongings - they could not be in a better place. Friendly helpful staff (Mary, THANK YOU!!!!) and very easy to access and store my things. I even have room for a little more. Bless you guys! read more

We didn't have the same experience as the others. I am a Latino and Mary treated me and my pregnant wife with respect and very professional. We had the storage unit for a year and a half. It is clean, and secured by fences and an entry code keypad. Staff was friendly when we moved in. However, I have been renting a unit there since November 2012, and here in Jan 2014, a little over a year later, I have had 2 rate increases. The unit has gone from $85 to $103/mo. That's an increase of over 20% in about a year. Also, they clear the snow, but not from right in front of the units. So, now I have a small hill of snow about a foot high that I have to climb over to get into the unit. I will be looking for other options. read more

I am very disappointed with the security of this facility. The security gate has been broken for months, leaving the gates open around the clock. This causes a safety concern when entering the property as anyone can be on the property any time of the day or night. I have asked management when it will be fixed and they do not know. Also, the rate for my unit has increased numerous times since it has been broken. I do not feel that is right, since I am not getting the service that I have signed a contract for! read more
