Scammers! We set up automatic payment on our credit card. When we were ready to move out, our automatic payment would've gone through five days before we moved out. We were told that they would refund our balance, so we let the charge go through. This was in March. After moving out, we got jerked around back-and-forth between the store and corporate. They eventually stopped answering or returning our calls. I finally called from a different number and spoke to Jorge. He basically said, we don't give refunds. So basically they are thieves, who have no problem keeping money that does not belong to them. Find another storage company who is willing to do business honestly. read more

If there was any option for ZERO stars.....! Initiated a contract in October '17. By December they executed their first rate increase (additional $20/month) - which, by the way, was NOT pre-advised. I spent a total of nine months with this company. Upon move out, just after the pre-payment of the July invoice, I was advised that they would NOT be prorating a refund for the remaining three weeks of unused storage (nearly $100), and that NO further consideration would be given to my request for reimbursement. Disgusted? ABSOLUTELY!!! Avoid not only this branch, but this corporation as a whole! Money hungry, deceiving, zero customer service. BUYER BEWARE!$!$@$@$! read more

This is a revised version of a review that I posted on July 1, 2012. In February 2011, my wife and I rented a space at Extra Space Storage to store some items which we did not have room for in our house. We did not visit the storage space for over a year. On July 1, 2012, we went to visit the storage space to reclaim some of the items. Our first surprise came when we were denied access to the gate. We then found that no one was available on site to assist us. We then called the national 800 number and were shocked to learn that a lien had been put on our possessions and that Extra Space Storage was planning to auction them off. They claimed that we are in the arrears in our payments, however we signed up for the credit-card based autopay feature when we took the space, and we have never received any notification that there was a problem. We offered to pay over the phone for the alleged arrears, but they refused to accept payment. After we got home, I checked online and discovered that they are attempting to bill us for over $100 in penalties. The next day, I visited the Extra Space Storage facility again and spoke with the manager Omar Silva. Omar explained that my credit card had expired and that they had been unsuccessful in billing the card in May and June. He stated that the billing system is supposed to send me an email to notify me of the impending credit card expiration, and I should also have received additional emails after the attempt to bill the card failed. However, I never received any such emails. He also stated that according to his computer system, the company claims to have sent three letters to my house notifying me of the problem, including a registered letter. However, none of these were received either. The last written communication that I received from Extra Space Storage was in March 2012, prior to when these problems started. Omar did allow though that Extra Space Storage had recently switched over to a new software system, and that this had been a "nightmare" as other customers have also had problems. In any event, Omar removed the penalty charges from my bill, and I paid for the outstanding two months of storage fees. He then gave me access to my belongings. I feel that he handled the situation well and that the resolution was fair. I am inclined to give the company the benefit of the doubt and attribute the actions that they took, and the failure to notify me, to be the result of a malfunctioning software system and not some nefarious plot. Nonetheless, this experience has caused me to seriously question the wisdom of continuing to be a customer of Extra Space Storage. If my wife and I had not thought to go check on our stuff this particular day and had instead waited a couple months, it appears likely that Extra Space Storage would have auctioned off our possessions without our knowledge or consent. In one report, a consumer writes that the manager of an Extra Space Storage facility apparently defied a court order to give him back his property. (A copy of the court order was even posted.) In reviewing the rental contract, I noticed that it has several provisions that could be problematic should an incident like this re-occur. They give themselves the right to foreclose on a space after it has been delinquent for only 30 days. The only form of notification that they are required to give is to send a letter by first class mail. The tenant agrees that the maximum value of the contents of his space will be no more than $5,000, so this presumably limits the amount of any claim that could potentially be made against them should they act improperly. In summary, I would exercise caution in dealing with this company. read more
