i have been storing items in this storage for almost 2 yrs. There method of business is bait and switch. They offer good online deals and once you're all moved in , two months later you get a tiny white postcard ( the kind you get for junk mail) increading the rent by 75% . For example you rent storage unit from r $125 , 2 months later they tell you in 2 weeks the increasing the unit to $225. Hoping you can move your items and are forced to pay the hyperventilated rate. I found another storage unit as the original price for same size unit so we rented the new one with lower rate or $125 and moved all our belongings into new unit. Only to have them raise the rent again 2 months later. I called our state rep De Leo but he said he couldn't do anything. All I know it's horrible, I'm forced again to pay higher amount and get my belongings out of there. Don't go there no matter how good the online price is, believe me they do this to everyone, it's shouldn't be legal. Stay away I'm warning you read more

The facility is just miserable to get to most any time of day except late at night, and that's not especially the time I'd want to go skulking around in this neighborhood. The traffic between Revere Beach Pkwy and 2nd St is a nightmare most of the time. When the gate isn't randomly wide open it's not a bad space. Never had any issues with the self service entry, or the elevator or anything like that. My real issue is Extra Space's obsession with trying to sneak rate hikes by you. The first couple years I was there they increased the rate for vague reasons. Finally on maybe the 3rd year I told them no: that they couldn't justify any increased value to the space, and that they knew vacating the space and waiting for someone else to come in at a reduced rate was a net loss for them as opposed to just being ethical with a long term customer who never missed a payment. They caved because it's true and everyone knows it. Any time this came up in the future we did the same thing and my rate stayed where it was because, again, there is absolutely no way they can justify a rent increase unless you let them. Well they found the loophole, and it turns out it was just not telling anyone. Last summer they hiked the monthly rate up almost 20% without ever sending so much as an email about it. I might not have even noticed it if I hadn't been poking around in my bank history and noticed that they did it AGAIN without telling me. If they're trying to justify this as a covid expense that's pretty disgusting. 99.9% of the time you're not going to run into a single soul on the property unless you absolutely want to. Honestly, go somewhere else. This company has no respect for anyone, and goes out of their way to find a path towards cramming your forgettable trash into anxiety. read more

I just had the worst experience here. There were NO signs stating they close at 6pm. NO SIGNS NO SIGNS! I've never gone in the evening to my storage unit so how would one know other than looking on the website. And why would I do that if I've had the unit for years and never went in the evening!! NOT ONE SIGN- CLOSES AT 6pm... SOO here I am stuck behind the gate for 45 minutes trying to get out! Then the systems were down so they couldn't look up my account. When finally all I had to do was take a picture of my license plate and send it to them. I had to wait almost an hour for that??? On top of that I have mouse shit all inside my unit and they can't do anything for me because I DON'T HAVE THEIR INSURANCE!!! The worst place EVER! I cannot wait to get my stuff out of there. read more

We have stored things here for many years, largely without a problem. After your first 6 months, they periodically raise rates and have raised our rates several times. I recently went to get a larger unit and the staff required that I provide copies of my homeowners insurance and MY FINGERPRINTS. They refused to rent without my fingerprints and their insurance add-on, so I decided to close out and take my business elsewhere. When I asked if the fingerprints were a legal requirement, they shifted the conversation and said that they have been doing this since 9/11/2001. When I reminded them that I rented in 2007 without fingerprints, they changed their story AGAIN and said that they have been doing this for 3 years. Either way, I don't believe that it is a good idea to give a retail business copies of your fingerprints. If they can't keep the facility secure with a copy of my driver's license and my credit card, then they're clearly doing something wrong. read more

I had to put my furniture in a storage unit temporarily and chose Everett because it was so much cheaper than Somerville and only 2 miles away. I have to say that I was extremely impressed with the cleanliness and security at the facility. The only thing to note is that these guys play by the rules. The contract says that to close out the unit you need to give 2 days notice and do a walk through. I didn't read the contract (duh) and was surprised to learn this when I moved out. I was kind of bummed that they wouldn't do a walk through with me right then even though I understand the rule. Bottom Line- store here for sure but follow all the rules and know your contract! read more

Storage is fine, regards billing be careful. When I moved out I gave 10 days notice and they still charged me a full month's rent for my final month. It's supposed to be prorated if you give notice, and I was there all of 3 days of that month. They said it's "impossible" to refund a credit card charge that has been done. There's a million other storage companies in this area -- use one of them. *Update* After this review went up they called to say they're sending the refund after all. I'll give 'em one more star for that. We shall see whether the cash arrives... *Update* Several weeks later they did send a check, so I'll give them 3 stars. They're all right. I do recommend doing business by phone or in person rather than in email. read more

Extra Space Storage unilaterally cancelled our reserved space not once, but TWICE. We called in before our move date to confirm date/time/space, and both times they told us they had cancelled our reservation. The on-site manager (Steve) insisted we must have cancelled if their system said we cancelled. I am not sure why he felt this was worth arguing. He had to "rebook", but because it was the end of the month, our promised rate had gone up. We called the national ESS line to complain, and their response: "There's nothing we can do about it." This type of "service" is unacceptable. read more

This facility is nice, employees friendly and helpful. I have been storing stuff here for a long time and they tend to be the least expensive around. I do have a complaint with Extra Space as a whole. IMO they treat old regular customers worse than new customers. My rates go up regularly while new customers get breaks all the time. I think Extra Space should reward their long time customers with some incentive to stay. Right now I am looking for a less expensive alternative. I hate to leave but I am not getting anything for my loyalty. read more

I would not use this storage facility again. They increase your rate with no warning, and do so every few months. We called to give our notice on the unit almost a full month before we would be moving out and were told that the national office couldn't help us but a note would be sent to our location and would be made in our account. I called our location the next day to learn our account had already been charged and that they would not reimburse us for the days after we were moving out of the unit. They continued to pass us between the local office and the national office, both saying they were unable to help. Bottom line - they do not care about customer satisfaction, they continuously increase your rate and the facility itself is run down. Go somewhere else for storage! read more

I was looking for storage space for my business. When I arrived the folks were very helpful. The manager gave us a tour and tried to help me find the space needed so I could load a trailer of pallets. We determined that the set up and what was available near the loading door just wasn't open. He could have sold me another section but it would have made my life so difficult for loading and unloading. He came out and said, I don't like to turn business away but this may not suit you at this time. I was really impressed by that and you should know that this is a very trusting place. For that I am scoring them very high. I ended up buying some misc box items, and they treated me the sale just the same as if I was doing a big contract. I made a phone reservation for a 10X10 unit at the Everett location. The customer service rep. " Ariana" quoted me a rate of " first month free", and $174.00 per month thereafter. I asked several times, and she was clear, that the deal was the first month would be free. I immediately went to the store location, and the employee "Tiago" showed me about the facility. I chose a storage unit located closer to the entrance, which raised the rental price to just over $200. Fine. Tiago told me that I would need to purchase insurance for my belongings, at $11 a month, unless I could provide proof of homeowner's insurance for the property. Fine. For $11, I was starting to wonder about the nickel and dining aspect of the business. But, for a short term rental ( only need a place for the next 2-3 months) it seemed acceptable. I returned to office with the employee to complete the rental agreement. He looked up my reservation on his computer and said " bad news, because the rate I have quoted here is only half off first month, not free. I protested, politely- this couldn't be right, because the customer service rep had assured me of having the first month free. The employee interrupted me with " LET ME FINISH WHAT I WAS SAYING. THANK YOU." in an extremely loud, slow, rude tone. I literally was not even able to get out my first full sentence about questioning the rates when he jerked the computer screen around to show me the reservation confirmation email from the customer service rep. "I didn't write this. This is the quote I got. I don't have any other offers to give you." I asked about calling customer service back to figure out where the misunderstanding was. The employee said, " Well, are you going to call them so we can get this reservation finished?" At that point I decided, game's up- I don't deserve to be treated this way by anyone. Actually, I will be making some calls- specifically, I will be calling the MA District Attorney's Office of Consumer Affairs. I am filing a formal complaint. Bait and Switch- advertising a price, and then changing it in this manner- is misleading. Might even be illegal. it is interesting that nowhere in the office could I see posted information about rates. Tiago called after me, sarcastically, " Have a wonderful day" as I left the office. No excuse whatsoever for his rudeness. Should have answered him back with something, but did not. I just walked out, in search of a better place to store my things. Extra Space Storage in Everett will not be getting any of my money. And rest assured, I'll be sharing the story of this bad experience with a wide audience. Not if you want my fingerprints! I took my business elsewhere. Not interested in companies that treat me like a criminal. I made a reservation, in person, several days in advance. Only when we showed up with a truck full of stuff did the manager mention that they would need to have my fingerprints. She invoked the usual BS about how it ensures my safety, and about how after 9/11, you can't be too careful. She also claimed, apparently falsely, that we were required by law to carry insurance, and that they would need a copy of my homeowner's policy. Nope, it's my decision how valuable my stuff is, and their contract is clear that they have no liability. All in all, a thoroughly unpleasant experience. Yes, I am a fan but there would be another star if the new mgr was as friendly and helpful as Hector, the mgr when I first rented, and Juan and the young Asian-American woman (Madison?) often behind the counter. Their smiling faces help make the stress of moving more bearable. The new guy needs to take a page from their book. And why the refusal to allow customers to use the restroom in the main office now? They lie, cheat, and do not keep the building secured. An absolute nightmare. I would never store anything here again. It was one problem after the next. I rented my unit on a day the office was open but planned on moving in that weekend... when I arrived on Sunday the gate was not working and I had no access to my unit. It was later opened... permanently (along with the doors to the storage building) for about 2 weeks... then of course the keypad broke again... I noticed a unit on the first floor that looks like it was broken into during this time period as well. When I was moving in the manager yelled at me for parking my car in the loading section and told me to move and carry stuff from my car to the loading bay because someone was going to come change a light bulb above the doors... the entire time I was there nobody came. A sprint tower was being put up where my unit was so I had to move to another unit. A huge hassle but at least they hired movers. Too bad the movers broke some of my furniture but I didn't notice unitl I moved out of the unit permanently. I was moved to a more expensive unit but told I would be given my old rate. I got the bill for the more expensive rate and called. Nobody at customer service would help me and said I had to call the manager of that facility directly. I left a message with o e of her employees and she never got back to me. I went down there in person and she said she already requested the rate change when my stuff was moved and she didn't know why it didn't go through. She said she would do it again but I had to pay the more expensive rate for now since my bill was due that week but I would be refunded. Never got a refund and it was still at the higer rate so I moved out. read more
