I just moved in a week ago and unit is on the third floor. The floor is very hot and I was told new A/C units are being placed in the whole facility and the third floor was the first to get new units. This facility is supposed to have 5 carts and the most I've seen is two when the facility was completely empty as I searched all floors from one end to the other to try and find the remaining three carts. The main complaint is the third floor being hot and limited carts. I will check back at the unit at the end of the summer to see if the unit is more climate controlled. UPDATE: I moved out of my unit late 2016 and there was an apparent leak, but thankfully there was some sort of lining above the unit that captured the water from whatever leak it was. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I chose this location because it was close to my home moving from another state. No information was given. When asked, Kristen informed me in her nice nasty tone it's in your storage. The place is very dark and gloomy. I had to walked a good 15 minutes to find my storage unit. No map or anything was given to help you assist. I am assuming the other female worker who works there (B) she's just the same. Her attitude is just as nasty as Kristen. No letter was mailed out informing me of a price increased. The system says one thing but Kristen in her nice nasty voice tells me what the lease says. When asked to speak to someone over her, she had to the nerve to ask me why? I will be sending a letter to the Attorney General informing them of how they work. I will also be moving out in April. This place is HORRIBLE. DON'T DO IT!!! read more

Don't do it. It's dank and dirty, security gates and roll up doors were never working and the building was always just open. Weeks after moving in my unit was broken into. It took a bit to move everything and the rent went way up after 2 months- after the break in. I was not notified and just saw all this money deducted from my account- I never got that back. A few months after that my friends unit was broken into. Both times of break-ins these were not the only units...it seemed to be a regular occurrence. I tried many times - at the time- to contact the corporate office, but was always directed back to the location and dismissed. They are very shady and don't think you will even be able to speak with the national office as there is no way to get through to them. read more

Horrible experience all around. I chose this storage space because it was close to the house to which I was moving. I booked online without checking it out first - bad move. Although the website automatically sends you a gate code, once you get into the gate, there is no obvious entry. I ended up having to return during their office hours to inquire as to how to enter the storage section and get to my unit. There is very limited parking near the loading dock - two maybe three spaces. Also very limited rolling carts - so make sure to bring your own because usually someone is using at least 2, if not all of the 3 carts that I've seen available. Too many times, I had to abandon my plan to move somethings in or out of my second floor unit due to no parking spaces and/or no carts. I had one final piece of furniture which I needed to remove from the unit. It was too large for my vehicle and too heavy for my son with the truck to move alone. I finally decided to hire a couple of movers from Thumbtack this past weekend to move the item. I had chosen this weekend because it was middle of the month and I would have a fair chance at getting a cart to help the movers since the storage unit is always busy on the weekends near the end of the month. My movers showed up on time early Sunday morning and we all learned for the first time that Hurricane Francine and caused water damage to portions of the building and that ServePro had begun mediations. There was a flier saying that if your unit was affected to go to the ServePro unit at another portion of the building, but being Sunday, no one was around. My unit did not have water damage but the elevator was not working. I tried to get in touch with someone for Extra Space - but no luck because it was Sunday. My Thumbtack movers went above and beyond because the furniture item was indeed too heavy to carry down the stairs. The dissemble the item and managed to get the piece down the stairs. The movers reassembled the item at my house. My complaint is that the company should have provided notice that the elevator was out of commission. I ended up having to pay the movers twice as much as I had planned because it took them twice as long to get the item moved. When I contacted the company to complain, I was told that I was not notified because my unit was not damaged. I was further informed that there was an elevator in the back of the building (of which I had no way of knowing because that was not posted anywhere either.) I was just lucky that I was not on the third floor as I had run into someone who was and who was also not notified of this issue. Perhaps the worst is the callous response and could not care less attitude of the person working for the company when I called to complain about the lack of notice. I'm glad I don't have to step foot in this place again. Rotten facility and and even worse customer service. Bottom line - there are tons of other options if you need storage space - don't waste your time or money on this one. read more

I have been renting a space at extra space on Jefferson highway for 2 years. I love how easy it is to access my unit. I love the cleanliness and the friendliness of the employees. I have never had any incidents with pests in any of my property stored there. Even leaving my locker unattended for over a year. Not one thing touched and no pests whatsoever. Very clean! The employees have always worked with me to accommodate me if my rates should go up and have been very helpful. Brad and Christine excel in customer service. read more

As of 27 days since Hurricane Ida, Extra Space Storage has not contacted me about the damage to their facility. We only found out when we attempted to visit today to swap out a few items that there's damage on every floor and that renters are supposed to be scheduling appointments to get inside and inspect their units. Extra Space has NO problem whatsoever sending a postcard when they (frequently) increase our monthly rates, but I did not receive a postcard or a phone call despite my phone number and home address being on the account. Automated services are available for mass communication; I know because I operate one for my place of business. Hundreds of calls can be made in a matter of minutes. There are no excuses for their lack of communication. read more

I kept my 2015 Keystone Hideout at this location for a period of 60 days. Near the end of my term, my RV was broken into through the back window. Fortunately, I didn't have anything of value stored, so the person must have filtered through my personal documentation on the trailer and left without causing too much damage. The emergency lock on the back window is broken and scrapes all along the window frame are now visible. After speaking with one of the workers, nothing is covered and no refunds are offered if your items are damaged or stolen. If I were management, I'd have at minimum offered a refund to cover the cost of the lock replacement I now have to perform. No fun. Not cool. read more

The exorbitant price for the required insurance should be illegal. Renters insurance for $25,000 coverage is far less than the insurance for $5,000. Additionally, I called to cancel the unit and asked when I needed to be moved out I was told the day before the rate increased, and I told them I would be out by then. I was indeed out by that date. However, they still drafted the monthly fee and when I contacted them, I was told it'd be refunded the next day. IT WAS NOT!! It was about two weeks later before I received information indicating my move out was complete. And - guess what? - I didn't receive a refund for that month although NOTHING was in the unit!!! The units are over-priced and the insurance they offer is useless. Everything in my indoor, "climate controlled" unit is covered in mold. The insurance they offer that we have paid for (at an additional cost) for 5 years is 100% worthless as they refuse to cover the damage. We have been trying to get this resolved since February .... As of 07/06/15 we have been unable to provide them with the pictures they requested of our damaged unit content because their email system cannot handle receiving pictures. Oh, AND we got a notification that they are raising our rent ... AGAIN! read more

Facilities are kept very clean & well-lighted. I have to go there by myself, so this is very important to me. The employees are very nice & helpful, as well. The only 2 complaints I really have are: (1) if you need a cart/dolly to move your stuff, you seriously have to hunt for it. I'm not sure how many they have, but it seems they are never where they are supposed to be, & (2) rent increases seem to be frequent. I opened my first storage container a 1 1/2 yrs ago at $50/mo. Now paying more than $60/mo. It would be nice for long-term storage folks to get a discount? read more

I have used this location twice. Once before it were bought out by Extra Space and once after. The first time, things were fine. The second time, things were far from fine. I had a climate controlled unit on the 3rd floor for 9 months and would visit it monthly just to grab a few things. The last two months it was unbearably hot. One of the employees even complained saying that he hated having to do maintenance on that floor because the A/C units were broken. Management decided not to alert any of the customers who had climate controlled units that the climate was not being controlled. The heat caused damage to a number of items and I had to file an insurance claim. Also within this time, a copper pipe above the unit started to leak the most disgusting smelling water directly into the unit. Everything that got splashed had to go because no amount of cleaning could get the smell out. This was also included in the insurance claim. Everything in the unit had to be moved out of the way of the leak and management's solution was to put a garbage can in the unit to catch the leaking water until the plumber could fix it. For weeks this continued and we were only able to use 1/3 of our 10x15 unit because of the leak. The leak was fixed 3 weeks later, but the garbage can never left. I felt like I was going to throw up from the smell. With this and months of no A/C, I submitted written notice and left. When moving everything out, I could never find more than one cart. Sometimes I didn't find any and had to move things by hand. When I was walking around looking for carts, I noticed leaks on the 2nd and 1st floors as well. I felt bad for those people as I could see water leaking into/coming out of occupied units. If management didn't inform customers that their climate controlled units weren't being climate controlled, it is safe to say that they didn't call customers when water was leaking into their units. Throughout all of this, management did not call to update me on the progress of anything (the leak or the broken A/C). The maintenance gentleman was very nice and helpful, but he didn't have authority to do anything. I would pay out the extra cash and use the Elmwood storage unit instead. read more

Do not rent here! I look young (about 18) though I'm 23 and a working adult. It's not often that people try and take advantage of me, but Kristine (the female manager) told me that I could pro-rate my second month of storage and lied about when I had to tell her by. I called a week before moving out and she told me it was not enough time (though she told me when I signed up for the storage unit that I could let her know a day or two before) to let her know and there was nothing she could do. Do not rent here! Do not let uneducated people cheat you out of money. This woman was rude to deal with over the phone. Now reading about the mold that other people are experiencing I am TERRIFIED to even go get my stuff out of the space.... read more

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE. The management of this facility does not care. We stored our RV at the facility since last June. In September, we went to retrieve the RV for a weekend trip and realized that one of our propane tanks was missing. We questioned the facility about looking at video footage to possibly figure out who took the tank or what happened. We were told by a female manager that they would look through the footage and get back w us. We questioned them several time about it and was told they found nothing. On the week of July 4th, again we went to check on the RV and found that the strap and locked chain securing the battery had been taken off. We questioned the manager John about looking at camera footage to find out what happened. He informed my husband that they didn't have cameras in the yard where our RV was being stored. He then suggested that maybe bad weather knocked the strap/chain off. The problem w this suggestion was that other RV's stored by ours had their straps removed as well. The facility was convenient to our home but with the problems that we had and the dismissive attitude of the "management", I would not recommend using this facility to anyone!! We were also told from John that someone would call us back about all of our concerns, I'm still waiting for that call! I am also of the opinion that they have people living in some of the campers inside that storage yard, just saying!!!!!! I've only been renting for a few weeks and I'm already regretting it. Twice when I've tried to go to the office the door has been locked - during normal business hours. On my first visit, the door was locked but a guy came to the door and greeted me with "what brings you in today?" -which would have been nice had it not been said in a "what the he$$ do you want?" kind of tone. They tried to charge me $30/month more than what I signed up for on the internet. As for the facilities, safety isn't their top priority. I made 4 trips in one day, so I should have had to enter my code 8 times. But the gate was wide open on all but 3 of those entries/exits. The floors inside the building are uneven, making it difficult to navigate the carts. Outside, the ramp down to ground level is not entirely covered so moving in inclement weather is a drag. Right after I moved in, they came around and put a 'thanks' sticker on your lock. It's only a lock, but that's akin to defacing private property. And don't get me started on the emails! Right after I signed the lease the emails started. The 'please rate us' emails. I have unsubscribed 4 times now and they keep coming. It's really ticking me off at this point. I've read the posts about the numerous rate increases, but I will say that the price is the ONLY reason I moved to this place. I got twice as much space for half of what I would have paid at my other storage place. But this place isn't nearly as nice, safe, clean, etc. Like I said, I've only been here for a few weeks, I'll post another review after a year. read more
