At least my stuff is still there! Not completely, bc the rats have started gnawing thru the bins. I took a picture of all of the rat terds I emptied out of my unit today. Didn't come close to getting all of them bc I still have belongings in the unit. My unit original cost was 82 in December 2019. They advertise the unit for 75 currently on their website. They now charge me 258 for a rat infested unit. On top of it, some fellow lease holders have decided this particular area would be ideal to set up their auto body shop, leaving entering and exiting the storage area almost impossible. I think I deserve a free year. read more

This is the second time I've used Extra Storage here in Chesapeake, but the new owner are not friendly at all, and not helpful with your needs. I called to ask why the floors in the Air Conditioned bldg in front of my space was nasty and she said that was a permanent mark that won't be removed until next year when the floors are stripped! SURE!!!!! It's a stain that can be removed, it gross seeing that mess in front of my storage every since I rented the place in May or June. If you pay a monthly fee for indoor storage I at least expect the floor to be clean when I sat my stuff down in the hall before storing! Just get your lazy employees out there to mop the floors like the previous owner did! Just poor Management! read more

We rented a storage unit from them on a last minute basis. We just moved to town and needed a storage unit asap. I reserved a unit online and then went in to pay. A couple things I was concerned about is that they offer the first month free!. However, I only received 1/2 off the first month. Also, they don't inform me of the extra (insurance) monthly charges. I have rented several storage units, and have never been charged this extra fee. I am kind of disappointed that we couldn't opt out of that extra fee. If it wasn't such a pain to move out, we would probably choose another storage facility in our area. read more

We did a lot of searching around for units and came across this gem. The place is clean, safe, and the workers are amazingly sweet. They advised us of their use of the truck rental that comes with their unit, and we had special circumstances that they were willing to work with and they bent the rules for us. The word "relief" can't even express it! Especially since we were moving in a pinch. Anyways, I will say the whole insurance thing is something they seem to be hard set on. We were able to bypass that extra fee by proving/showing them our insurance contract on our personal property. Essentially this insurance is for your property....so if you already have renters insurance you just need to show it to them to remove that fee. They are trying to be safe with your stuff people....try to look at it that way! I recommend them, over and over! read more

2 stars is a bit harsh so I have chosen 3... The facility is clean and easy to navigate which is nice, but I have a couple of things that I did not appreciate. First, on move in day, the associate asked the value of the items i'm storing....I said $10K. She then accomplished the on-screen contract to sign and it was only when I saw the box that said $45 a month and I asked what it was for that she explained it was a monthly (insurance) charge. She never would have mentioned it had I not asked and I feel as though this should be mentioned when you ask for the initial quote..and again when they ask the value of the items. Secondly, on 1 June I rock up in my U-Haul hired from across the street to the tune of $75... to put my items in the unit and there is an Extra Space moving truck sitting in the car park. I asked if that truck could be used by clients to move their items into storage she said yes... But, when I reserved the unit 3-4 weeks prior, they never mentioned the fact that they provide a moving truck when it is available. So, when and saw their truck sitting there un-used... I was a bit annoyed to say the least. It is an extra expense that I would have appreciated. Do your due diligence and ask these questions when you are searching for a unit so there are less surprises....moving is stressful enough you don't need additional aggro.... read more
