I called ahead and heard the deal and said...good to go...packed and showed up to move my stuff in....truck filled and ready to go...well...hold on partner...YOU HAVE TO PAY INSURANCE on your junk...what?? Honestly I hate to leave such a horrible review during these times but I can't let this one go. I had called extra space shortage and put a unit on hold. Rep on my phone was very nice. When I arrived to this location to see and pay for my unit the guy was sitting inside with his sunglasses on. When I told him about my reservation he was very short and said my reservation was at other chatsworth location. When I asked about pricing at this location he quotes something double the price. I still didn't even say anything as this place was closer to what I needed. I asked him to show me the storage unit. Guy had no sense of urgency, didn't even care. It's as if he was doing us a favor. He slowly walked us over and finally showed the unit. As we were asking questions guys was super cold and short again. At that point I couldn't hold it in anymore and just told him I thought his customer service skills were lacking and he's not doing a good job of explaining anything. When I asked for his name turns out he's the store manager! Wow! That's how you get customers huh? Then again I think nowadays people could care less. I wasn't gonna give him my business and just walked right out and went to one down the street. I also called the service line with my feedback. They said that a district manager would call me back and it's been 3 days and no call. And now I get a Yelp comment saying for me to reach out so we can discuss? I have had a 15'x15' space with Extra Space Storage for 7 years. On September 6, 2012, I discovered the locks were not my locks, and thus had to have one lock cut off to gain entry. I could not gain full entry because all of the springs were broken on the three doors to this unit, and I was told they could be replaced that day. But, more disturbingly, I saw a gaping hole on the wall of my side of the unit, that had been replaced on the adjacent side unit (and that unit had received a new door), and it looked like my space had been vandalized. Extra Space Storage could not replace the springs until September 25, 2012, when the Manager Matt was there. Upon gaining full entry, it became evident that all of my valuables, including antique furniture and collectibles had been stolen. First I was told by the Senior Manager, on October 18th, that the owner of the other unit said the hole was there when he moved in three years ago, then on his second call to me, I was told the owner of the adjoining unit said there was no hole (what???). Whereas, I cannot PROOVE that this theft occurred under Extra Space Storage ownership, I felt I should have been notified when the gaping hole on the adjoining unit was first noticed. They claim it was not replaced under their ownership, which they will not prove, NOR WILL THEY EVEN REFUND SEPTEMBER'S RENT, even though I COULD NOT ENTER my unit until the springs on the doors were replaced and errant locks removed by them on the 25th. Renters should know that the walls of these units CAN BE BROKEN THROUGH, and that the owners apparently don't even notice (or care), when someone breaks the locks off your unit and steals your belongings. Is it cheap? No, not really and for some reason this storage facility seems to be higher than the other ones in Chatsworth and Northridge (at least for drive up units).I have a pretty big storage space (couch, large dining room set, and a lot of other shit) and I am paying $162 with no contract (no idea how long I will need the space for). Haven't had any problems here and the service has been fine. This is my "rent" money for moving back in with my parents since my parents throw their extra crap in there too. A haiku to sum it up: Stored here for three months There were no issues for me I do recommend I rented a storage unit here for about 3 months. For temporary storage, I highly recommend this facility. Is it cheap? Not really, but it was relatively the same price as the others in the area. Would I recommended this for long term storage? No, I wouldn't, but I also don't think storage units are cost effective for long term storage regardless. Another debate, I suppose... You're forced to have insurance, which adds extra cost. This, I found, was also standard in the area. It's a good idea regardless, as it does cover you for up to $2000 (the bare basic is what I got, wasn't paying for more than what my items were worth--not about that life, I'm cheap and sometimes intelligent). My total per month was $92 including storage. I had a smaller unit, 5x10. In addition, mine was not a drive up unit. This, I assume, also made it slightly cheaper. You should buy your own lock ahead of time to save money--their locks are over priced, to say the least. The staff here was amazing. I was able to clear out four days before payment was due with no issues. Literally took Guillermo (assistant manager at the time of this review) less than 5 minutes to check me out and give me a receipt to show it was closed. I believe the standard rule is a 3 day notice to avoid the next payment. Pretty fair, in my opinion. There is no type of return, however, for the additional days (in my case, it would have been like a $7 return if applicable). The gate works great, the bathrooms are in the office, and there is water in the office. There isn't a bathroom for after office hours. The actual storage is open later than the office--10pm daily. As a warning, the gate will lock you in after that. I believe it opens at 6, but...never got there early enough to know... All and all, the experience was about a good as a storage can be. I would definitely recommend this facility in comparison to others in the area. You spend a little more each other to avoid the headaches that come with dealing with shadier places. read more

This company is NOT honoring the price given on there own website! They will not return calls regarding the situation. Have tried to speak to someone at a management level on several occasions and get "Someone will get back to you within 48 hours" Sure they will. The customers that have existing units are paying well over the current listed price. I'm gonna have a friend rent a unit next door to save the money. What a joke!!! I moving long distance, and I needed materials. I met Diana Veloz, Assistant Manager, and she was very patient , and knowledgeable ! She even created an inventory list of items I might need ! So a week later I came back, and again this woman is consistent. Shes Friendly, and very professional.I purchased items, and she helped me load it into my car! I was very impressed!
