BEWARE!!!! I've never seen a storage facility make it so obvious that they hate dealing with customers for extremely basic things. They lock their gates at 6PM. Most places are open until 9PM. If you work a 9-5 you will be coming before work and forget going into your unit after work because you won't be there in time to begin with. This means you can only access your unit on the weekend or if you change you work schedule. I'm not sure why this place made it where you only have access from 6AM-6PM when the hours should be something to at least 8 PM being that most people have day jobs... Need to throw out a box or recycle something? They don't give you access to a recycle bin or dumpster. Extra Space and US Storage does give you access. As your rates go up, they just tell you "we charge you rent based off current market value" (it's the same line they have been trained to say and about "operational costs" but no one can tell you what the costs include. Keep in mind you clearly aren't paying for normal gate hours, you aren't receiving access to dumpsters, and good luck ever finding an employee actually in the office because get this THEY DO NOT LIST OFFICE HOURS ON THEIR DOOR OR ON THEIR VOICEMAIL! I recently went to the office (2nd time in 1 day....). The first time was in the morning after 10 AM and no one was there (in my account it says someone is there after 9:30 AM....). On their door they list a phone number as 818-491-311, but no one answers (or returns your call....the voicemail doesn't tell you the office hours or that the business is in fact Public Storage LOL), however on my account their number is listed as 747-224-6380. The 747 number is a call center with foreign employees. You call the call center and they said someone is supposed to be there at 1PM except when I called (a few times) no response again. I finally did get a hold of someone (again no one answered the phone) by driving again to the facility. Apparently this location has no office hours. You have to make an appointment, however the employee that may be in the office when you are there does not make the appointment for you. Once again though, how do you make an appointment if no one answers the phone to start or if no one is even there? All I got from the employee who was there is that there is supposed to be someone there for a few hours a day but that sometimes it may be in the morning, but sometimes it may be in the afternoon. WHY NOT PUT UP A SIGN THAT SAYS THE SCHEDULE?!??!?! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! PS) They have rodents and roaches in the facility. The female manager here with all the tattoos is rude, Clearly hates her job. I know plenty of people who could take her place & do an amazing job. The rent is raised regularly, there's hardly ever anyone on hand for questions. There are no trash cans anywhere so people have to just leave trash in their units and in the halls. This is regarding the public storeage in Chatsworth on Topanga Canyon. It is extremely difficult to cancel your unit. I went to the facility to request a move out. I was told to email Arodriguez5@publicstoreage.com. I did this at the beginning of February 2025. That email was returned as not deliverable. I then called and asked for a move out with public storeage main line. It took over 1 hour being switched from person to person. When I finally got someone, it was rushed, they only scheduled a move out time and hung up. When I moved out this Saturday (February 15, 2025), I asked the manager for the paperwork to complete move out. Marie, the manager, said she would take care of it. Two days latter (February 17, 2025), I was called by public storeage, that my unit was still in my possession and that I am still responsible for the unit. I told the public storeage representative from Chatsworth - Topanga Canyon that I went to the storeage facility to close the account. Instead I was redirected to email lalverez2@publicstoreage.com and Arodriguez5@publicstoreage.com Both of these are not functional emails. I informed the representative that I went to the public storeage facility at Chatsworth Topanga Canyon, on 3 separate occasions. Each time requesting paperwork to close the unit. And each time directed to email the representative. It is not in their pay grade to provide paperwork.. This is not acceptable. I should not have to spend hours to cancel a unit. I don't know if this is on purpose or if it is by incompetence. My take, do yourself a huge favor, and do not store your items at this facility. It will test your patience and sanity read more

We have had a storage unit at this facility for several years. Decided to downsize a bit as we no longer needed our 10'x20' unit. We contacted their office and spoke with the office manager, Marie. She was just amazing. So knowledgeable and friendly as well as extremely professional. She showed us several smaller options and we chose a 10x15 in a great location on the 2nd floor, very close to their elevators. This location is always squeaky clean and very well maintained, including their restrooms. Temperature controlled facility is sure a big plus especially in our scorching hot San Fernando Valley temperatures. Location right on Topanga Canyon Blvd and very well located. It has always been a pleasure doing business with this Public Storage location! Outstanding experience when reaching out to the office on-site managers. Highly recommend them!!! read more

When I was contemplating whether or not to rent a storage unit, I was initially wary about whether or not it would be a good decision to leave my possessions at a storage facility; as opposed to storing them at my personal residence. I found Marie to be extremely helpful as I pondered my decision. She went over the various security protocols that were in place there, and she even helped me select the most appropriate unit that would best suit my needs. This facility is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Jonathan the manager is one of the most rude and dishonest people I have ever dealt with, and has no consideration for what any of his customers OR employees have to say. After renting from them for almost 6 years, my INDOOR Storage unit had been broken into TWICE. Both times Jonathan had refused to give me any information or police report on the occurrence, and claimed the Camera Systems were Not Recording, which to this day still don't! If you are looking for Security for your belongings and Customer Service, you WILL NOT, find it here. I will never rent from this facility again, and hope to never deal with a manager like Jonathan in the future. Save yourself the headache and heartbreak, and stay far away from this place. read more

Avoid this place at any cost, I wish I could give zero or even negative stars. Think twice before you go. I called the property manager over 10 times to confirm my reservation and ask for check-in instructions. No one answered the phone - NOT once. When I drove a loaded 15-foot truck all the way from downtown los angles to chatsworth (over 20 miles), the property manager told me she was not able to check me in today because her internet has been down for 5 days... I asked her how come she didn't tell me this issue when I made the reservation or after. Her reply was she forgot, and she told me call center doesn't know anything about what's going on onsite. I asked why she didn't answer the phone when I called, her said she never received any calls. She also told me it was not her fault that I could not be checked in. Then I asked her if she could transfer me to somewhere else, she seemed reluctant. In the end, I had to go through yelp pages to find if any storage that was open at 5pm on Sunday. This experience was a NIGHTMARE. Hands down THE WORST customer experience ever. I used public storage in the past, and this is something I'd never expect from public storage. The unprofessionalism that the lady at the property presented was beyond words. She was rude, not considerate and immature. I mean if the internet issue had been there for 5 days, why isn't she taking actions getting the internet fixed, but instead she just carelessly turned every customer away. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM PUBLIC STORAGE!!! Unbelievably bad experience - complete debacle. When I called to make the reservation I was give one week. Good so far, because weighing the cost of doing a storage facility versus just storing stuff in my garage and extra room. Planned on moving into locker on a Sunday, but was told by the facility manager, Cameron, that it would be best to come in a day or so earlier to get the paperwork done so moving in on Sunday is easy. Seemed reasonable enough...was quoted $216 per month for a 10" x 10" space with 1/2 off for first month plus some admin fee for paperwork start up. OK, seems like this is doable. My reservation was guaranteed to Sunday at 4:00 p.m. With Cameron's recommendation and frankly stern urging, I went in at Saturday at 4:00 p.m to do all this "important paperwork". When I get into the facility to meet Cameron, turns out they FORCE YOU TO BUY INSURANCE for your locker or they won't sign you up - this is anywhere from $11 to $15 per month - this was NEVER told to me talking to Cameron on the phone or the (800) number service company. Then another bomb dropped....they want $19.99 for a LOCK they feel is the right lock for the unit as it "cannot be cut off." This company touts it's security and cameras and the fact they have such responsible managers, yet I was being strong armed into a $19.99 lock. I told them I had a lock already and again with the rhetoric of that they're lock was better and that I could not take any possession of the locker until their lock was off and the lock I preferred (and was already my own) was on the locker. I told Cameron at that time I was not buying their lock and that I would be at the facility to have them remove their lock on the unit the following morning before noon. Important here.....I DID NOT TAKE POSSESSION OF THIS UNIT yet. I was charged $143.00 immediately on my credit card but did not have possession of the unit because the lock I wanted to use, and NOT THEIRS was not actually on the unit I was renting. But they charged me anyway, at their urging I come in a day before my reservation would actually expire, and charge me insurance and strong efforts for me to get one of their locks. As soon as I left this establishment at 4:30 on Saturday, I had a sick feeling in my stomach as if I had just been "had". This feeling stayed with me all night and woke up Sunday morning thinking, "I just can't do this!" I call all the (800) number to cancel my locker, the one I hadn't really taken possession of yet, and asked for a refund of the $143 already charged. That number said I signed and no refund would be submitted. AGAIN, I NEVER TOOK POSSESSION OF THIS UNIT AND IT WAS ONLY 15 HOURS SINCE I WAS IN THE OFFICE, STILL A FULL 8 HOURS BEFORE MY ACTUAL RESERVATION WOULD HAVE EXPIRED!!! So I say to the woman, Rachel, on the phone..."so because I went in on a Saturday afternoon at Cameron's urging, I will not get a refund, but had I waited until 4:00 on Sunday afternoon without notice or anything, I wouldn't have been charged?????" She said, "yes that is correct" and "I am sorry." Phone-person Rachel says she will put my complaint into the District Manager, Jonathan, and to expect a phone call from him within 48 hours. I called Cameron at the actual Topanga Canyon location directly to let him know, with courtesy, that I will not be taking possession and notified him I already called the (800) number to cancel my reservation. And, this dude, starts to ramble off that there will be no refund, that I signed paperwork with him, and by their contract, had officially taken possession of the unit. CAMERON, I NEVER TOOK POSSESSION OF THE UNIT!!!!! UNBELIEVEABLE.... 1. Urged strongly to come in early to get paperwork signed even though reservation guaranteed me my spot until the following day at 4:00 2. Found out while I am there, extra charges (insurance and lock) are demanded and recommended. 3. Don't take possession of unit because I have no lock with me but they charge my credit card for the discounted first month, admin charges and the forced insurance to the tune of $143 anyway. 4. Cancel unit within 16 hours, never moving one item into a unit, because remember I don't have possession because their lock is still on the storage unit! 5. Find out no refund. I have since callled around to a few other lesser known storage companies....PUBLIC STORAGE ARE CROOKS AND USE MAFIA-LIKE TACTICS TO GET YOU INTO THEIR PROGRAM WITHOUT ANY CLIENT SERVICE. I had the pleasure of meeting Chris and Eric(manager) this morning while visiting the unit I had reserved online. It was great talking to them both about my storage needs and the best course of action in transferring from another storage facility to this one. Chris walked me to my unit, around the facility, showed me the available equipment, and best parking for loading/unloading. I love how clean the whole facility is inside and out. The building looks new and the units have metal walls. They make several security checks throughout the day. I definitely got the feeling my belongings will be safe and secure. They increased prices in the middle of lockdown. Absolutely shameful. They are now increasing prices again by about 25%! Their customer service (corporate, not on site) is terrible. There is no accessible trash can to even throw away the smallest things. There is no lighting in the units. They've reduced their open hours to unreasonably ridiculous times. read more

Ive been with this facility for over a year now. in one year they have increased my cost per month from $176.00 to $216.00. In ONE year. That is a $40.00 increase. In ONE year! Their reason? Operational cost increase. What operational cost increase? Think they gave their employees a huge raise? No. Its just operational costs. Think this was some sort of move in special? No! If I could give this no stars or a negative, I would. BEWARE!! As much as they tell you this place is secure, it is NOT!! Our unit has been broken into a second time with in a month time span. The first time it was broken into we thought could've been a random hit, this time, no way! The items that were stolen are not things easy to steal on the street or pawn. We even had double locks this time and these criminals cut around it on the bar the locks are attached to. Dont believe it when these storage companies tell you your stuff is safe. They claim no responsibility and tell you that's why you have to have insurance on your storage. But that only goes so far. read more
