Today I went to a call for an electrical problem. The homeowner told me what his issue was and said he hired these thieves to fix it. They changed out a breaker and stated that there were sparks coming from the power pole where the consumers electrical service was attached. All this was documented on the invoice as well. I found a bad connection where the service is connected and replaced it. Went back to the panel and the consumer said he now no longer has the electical issue in his home. He showed me the invoice....the bill was $1,417!!!! I was so shocked that I had to write this review on behalf of the elderly couple that were taken advantage of. The consumer is going to contact the Better Business Bureau and hopefully this never happens again. Do not use these hacks or anyone else like them. ALWAYS get more than one estimate. read more

I made an appointment for a re-wiring job in my kitchen. They called that day and said they were overloaded with work and can't make the appointment. My husband took the day off work to be home for the appointment. They offered to reschedule and give a 10% discount (woopie). We rescheduled for a few days later for the morning so we would be the first appointment. Guess what! They called again to reschedule because they were already overloaded for the day. We canceled and went elsewhere. Seriously, if they can't even make an appointment, how are they going to be in a job? First impressions..... Lately we experienced a partial power outage in our home and I called Express Electrical Service that afternoon because other companies had already closed for the day. Alex, a friendly and obviously very experienced electrician, came to our place, had me sign for a service fee of $129.98, and started to check what would be wrong. He could not find the problem and told me the troubleshooting, finding, and repairing the cause of the outage would cost $2250 or 2800(with certification) plus the service fee of $129.95 for coming. I did not accept their estimate and next day I called Garafano Electric, they came an hour later, did a very thorough and competent search for the problem, found it, improved some of the wirings and connections and charged for two hours of work $300. Everything's fine now. But forget Express Electrical Service - they are going to overcharge you! read more

Well I went with my judgement and tried this company they did provide multiple options and yes the price was high but for the quality and having them give me warranty and insurance that it will work for the safety of my family and I. Scammers. Friendly, until you realize they're lying. it's $129 JUST for the drive out to your place. Aw, we dispatched someone who was doing something with his family. Well, since we fixed the problem, and wanted to immediately cancel, tell him to go home. Since he's already out and only 10-15 minutes from your place, we'll still have to charge you. It would be better to have him come out, look at the problem and discuss it in case anything else happens. Nope, we wait, he eventually gets there, he shows up, but to even come in to LOOK at the breaker box or anything else it's $900. Then I get a friendly call saying "my technician was there and took a look" I interrupt and say nooo, he didn't, we told him to go home the second he said walking in to take a look would cost 900. Do not use this company. If I could give them a minus 0 I would. Their efforts to upsell you are beyond unethical. I had a simple problem. I wanted two outlets replaced since when plugging in my lamps, the outlets were loose, and one outlet in my house that did not work. Within 10 minutes I was told I needed my entire electrical panel replaced to the tune of over $7,000. I was given two other "options" that were less but equally overpriced. I paid $49 for that nonsense and basically told the guy thanks but no thanks. Deciding that I'd rather risk electrocution than be bankrupted--I went to the internet and found some helpful videos on "how to change an electrical outlet." Went to Home Depot, and for less than $15 got the parts. Came home, turned off the electricity to the house--followed the video's directions and fixed the problem myself. As for the outlet that did not work---after consulting with my handy nephew on the other side of the country, I discovered that the switch to the dead outlet was flipped to the middle and all I had to do was push it all the way over to "on." FIXED. I am a recent widow. You hear about repair people taking advantage of the vulnerable, and you don't want to believe it, but sadly, this is the world we seem to live in. After verifying in their system that they service my address, she got me setup with a same day appointment. The dispatching company call a few hours later to inform me that they do not service my area. What kind of joke is this? This company is obviously unorganized and poorly managed. I called express electrical to repair some outlets that weren't working. I thought it was great that they would come the same day. They said there was a 49.95 service fee that would be waived it if I hired them to complete the job. After coming out the technician looked at the outlets and quoted me 3 prices, 7900 to fixed the problem and change the breaker box so it wouldn't happen again, 2800 to fix part of the breaker box, or 850 to troubleshoot the problem but that it would probably happen again in the future. I passed and decided to get a second opinion. The new company came out and within 5 minutes found a loose wire. They said the breaker box was fine and that whoever said something was wrong with it didn't know what they were doing. My outlets were fixed for only 75 dollars. It seems like express electric just wants the service fee and will way over charge for any actual work. Would not recommend read more

i am an owner of a restaurant and half of the restaurants electricity went down during the middle of the dinner rush. called this company and technician showed up $(129.99 just to show up) and he replaced a fuze 100amp ( $15 from a part store) and was charged $387. total came out to be $516.05 but gave a special discount of 10% off. if i was not sick and stayed at the restaurant this would cost me $15 and 3min... yes this company did show up and did fix. for $15 part charged over $400... yes i am in the restaurant business and i do understand business have to charge for service and make profit but this much?? this one is i guess five star fine dining kind of electrical service and yes they have a full right to charge what ever they want. they did show up. they finished job. just be ready to pay them alot of money because this one is the super star chef owned high price one. go store and spend $100 to stock up yourself with some $15 fuze for emergency and make sure you let your crews know how to replace those fuzes. this was my lesson. read more

The tech came and was told I had a bad circuit breaker. I would have replaced it myself except it was hard to get due to old style. Instead just to confirm it's bad he wanted over $900 just to diagnose the circuit, claiming there might be other hidden problems. I told him just change the breaker if he has one. He won't do. He started talking about how old my panel was and have me a ridiculous $5500 to replace the panel with only 100 amp service. I told him both prices were ridiculous. He offered to call his office to see if the prices can be reduced. I send him packing after paying the service call. I had my electrician come the next day and replaced for $105. He will upgrade to replace my panel in March for $2500. Bottomine, tech was honest, but company policy is bad A rip off for folks not know better. Worst customer service! I'm a commercial broker and property manager for my clients commercial properties and this electrical company wasted my time with idiotic company policies. They first needed authorization from owner to perform work and did so. Then required him to be there after I explained to them he gave them authorization for his property manager to take care of the repairs. My client is very old and THAT IS WHY HE HIRED our company to take care of the property. This company calls me 30 mins before the appointment time to state that he needs to be there in person to pay. I explained he gave authorization for our company to pay. THis is how property management works, we bill the owner. Without trying to resolve the problem the dispatch just said well we need him to be there or you will need to re-schedule. If you have a emergency and no choice I supposed you can charge 3-4 times what it would normally costs. And he did an excellent job at finding the issue and fixing it. I did go with his second recommendation, he took the time to explain to me all my options. Warning: Untrustworthy or Incompetent? I needed what I thought to be some minor repairs on some outlets in my house that are only occasionally used by light appliances. They are linked together on one circuit. We also wanted to install some light fixtures for which we had already purchased replacements. Based on reviews, I called 5 other electricians first, but most were too busy and would not be available for the next few weeks, others did not return calls. One electrician who was recommended highly on Angie's List was helpful enough to give me a ballpark estimate based on my description of the work needing to be done. He said it sounded fairly simple and that the work could probably take no more than a couple of hours. Thinking the job to be routine, I figured any electrician could do the job for a reasonable fee. I called Express Electric and they said that they could come out that very day and they did. After accessing the problem I was given several estimates and two different options involving some serious need for troubleshooting a wiring problem and perhaps rewiring some of the existing outlets to different circuits. The estimate ranged from over $1100 to over $1400. I was stunned. I paid the $49.99 service fee (refundable if I had the work done by them) and declined to have the work done at that time saying I would get back to them after getting other estimates. Thinking that I could get a handyman to at least install the light fixtures for less than the $380 portion of the estimate that was quoted to me, I arranged to have one come out that same day. He got the outlets working by pressing the reset button on one of the outlets (we had tried that, but apparently we had not pressed hard enough) and installed 6 fixtures. We were charged $150. What a difference! I believe the best thing about Express is that they respond quickly to calls. I also think they overcharge and try to get you to pay for work that is unnecessary. Even if you do not contract with them, you will be out $50 for an overpriced, false diagnosis of the problem. When I balked at the high cost of the estimate, he offered 10% discount on the job and said that sometimes there is a 20% discount should we decide to have him do the job. What a bargain! I do not trust this company. To me the way it was handled shows that they are either untrustworthy or incompetent. I would not call or hire them. Beware. read more

I have to say at first I was a little hesitant on going with the first company I called to get my home rewired. From the reviews though I knew I was in good company. Raul was my entire technician the whole time and I got such a good vibe the moment he came over. He walked me thru everything, what the job would entail, how long it would take, and he went above and beyond with installing my new techy gadgets. All permits and inspection were taken care of with no headache. I couldn't be more happier that I went with Express Electric, but specifically Raul as I know I can be a pain to work with and he was so patient with me in explaining everything in so much detail. HORRIBLE SERVICES AND PEOPLE (WEST COVINA) my grandmother called them because the power kept going out. A service man came to her home and told her and my cousins that he was going to have to rewire the whole house! Said they needed to charge her $28,000 to get the work done and we're guna give her a discount so it came out to $25,000! My grandma and cousins didn't know better so they signed the contract. When I got there there and had my uncle (CA licensed electrician) check it all they needed was more beakers! A simple and WAY cheaper job! we checked the contract and my grandmothers signature wasn't even on her copy and he NEVER showed her the 3 day cancellation claus! She even already gave him a 3,000$ check as a deposit! We called the service number and said we wanted the services cancelled and asked about getting the check and the lady was very rude saying "I guess we'll send it back". The service man named RAUL then called and tried to say he always bought parts and get permits (in less than 3 hours) and that he was guna charge a cancellation fee. We explained that none of that is in the contract he gave us nor does it have my grandmothers signature nor is it initialed where the 3 day Claus is, proving that he NEVER explained to my grandmother that at any point was she able to cancel services. He continued to argue and harass us for cancelling services. We told him we are putting a stop payment on the check and will pay him for coming out but that is it. These guys are crooks! The Electrician from Express Electric came to check the power to our heater. He stated that the power to the heater was intact but we had an entirely separate problem. He said that the breakers needed to be fixed because it was a fire hazard and he pointed out some charred wires to us. He stated on the invoice "Need to replace two 20 amp twin OCPDs. They are letting out more amps than they should and not tripping, therefore the wires are overheating". The quote was for $843.00. Our landlord declined to have the breakers replaced until we could get a 2nd opinion. Two electricians came today from Barker & Sons and inspected the breakers and tested the amps going and coming from the breakers and determined that the breakers were FINE. (incidentally the cost to replace them would have been approx. $100, NOT $834.00). The electricians from Barker & Son, one also a firefighter/inspector, noted that the char marks on the wires were not circumferential and after stripping the wires they determined that they had been purposefully burned externally.... not melting from overheating at all. They checked the connections and the amps and said without a doubt, those wires were not melted from overheating or due to any cause by the breakers. The only way those wires got burned was externally by a lighter or some other heat source. Obviously we can't be sure who or how the wires got burned, but we did not do it. Bottom line, there was NO work that needed to be done. I called Express Electric to complain and told them that I was filing a complaint. I reported the burned wires and fraudulent claim that the breakers were faulty. Immediately after calling the company, I received an angry, threatening phone call from the electrician who was in our home, on my cell phone from a blocked number. When I called the company back to tell them he had called me directly, they too yelled at me and were very rude. DO NOT USE THIS ELECTRICAL SERVICE!! I filed a complaint with the California Contractors Board and found out they have multiple complaints filed against them for fraud amongst other charges. read more
