I've been paying 29.99/month and I honestly can't tell you what the owners use my monthly payment for, it's definitely not gym upkeep. The equipment is run down, rusty, broken and overall gross. You go to clean off any equipment and a rust like color comes off on the towel -- barbells and dumbbells included. Just using weights there makes you feel gross because of how much filth and neglect they've experienced. There's a pool and a hot tub but I've never used them. Given the state of everything else, I couldn't trust it. Mirrors are cracked all over the gym, the ceiling leaks in several spots. For what you are asked to pay and what you get in return -- this place isn't worth it. CNY doesn't have a shortage of quality gyms. Champions misses the mark by a mile.

The worst of the staff, SM, claims that she has been there since 1994, and her attitude is as though she has hated every day of it. She has no problem making snide comments about gym members as they enter the workout area, not caring that she can be heard. There is only a partition between the front desk and the hallway to the locker rooms and she can clearly be heard making rude remarks. When you walk into the workout area, you are met with a long corridor. On each side, is the most antiquated workout equipment you could imagine. The gym has been in existence since 1990, and they obviously have saved most of that equipment that is in use to this day. They do have 2 "pools", one is a swimming pool to the left as you go down the corridor, the other is pretty much a cesspool that is by the 2 universal machines at the back of the workout area. There is always a leak there, and especially during the summer or when it rains, you cannot use the universal machine under that area. Also during the summer, it is sweltering hot in the workout area. No fans and no air conditioning, and it is hard to breathe because it is stifling. There is a big unit in the ceiling that may or may not be the AC unit, but because it leaks so much, they don't turn it on. I would not recommend their personal trainers as they look as though they could use a personal trainer, themselves. I have noticed when a negative comment is left, the "gym owner" leaves comments such as "you should have told my staff", yet these issues have not been resolved. The gym manager, Christy, is in the workout area every single day. She sees the problems with the gym and her staff and yet, neither issue is ever fixed. The environment in this gym is not healthy physically or mentally. What some staff members like SM seem to forget is that we are dues paying members, which is where their salaries come from.

As a fat guy, Planet Fitness is the kind of gym I want to go to. It's cheap, stocked full of plenty of equipment, and while their "Judgement Free Zone" gimmick can be a little hokey, they do tend to be patronized by people of average fitness levels just looking to get a quick work out in, as opposed to extremely serious fitness fanatics who spend hours a day at the gym. Anyone feeling self-conscious will feel welcome at their gyms, as it has always seemed to me that patrons aren't very interested in who else is at the gym or their fitness levels. The club's two membership levels are $10 and $21.99 per month: the $10 per month level includes access to cardio and strength equipment, unlimited group fitness instruction and pizza and bagels once a month; the $21.99 per month ("Black Card") level allows members to bring one guest per day at no charge, access to all Planet Fitness locations, and access to extra amenities, such as tanning booths and massage chairs. This location on Rt 11 is one of the smallest locations in the area, but one of the nicest. They recently replaced all of their equipment with brand new, much nicer models. They definitely have the best and nicest machines in the area now, and on top of that, have a couple extra machines that the other locations don't have, such as elastic cord rowing machines and stairmaster-type machines. This location also has the nicest, cleanest locker rooms of all the locations, and generally clean bathrooms. The smaller spot can tend to get busy, with less room for people to spread out, especially since it is in a pretty busy area on Rt 11. It's in a plaza, so there's plenty of room to park, and easy access to highways. It's also one of the HOTTEST locations, as it tends to be pretty full, has very small fans on the walls, and that many people working out in that close of quarters means a ton of body heat. Despite the small area, it's still one of my preferred locations.

I check my emails periodically throughout the day and nothing was sent, not even in my junk folder. That was called the Downtown Branch. Anyway. This is not a great YMCA by any stretch of the imagination, and it has a strange layout and looks a little bit like it was built in 1952 or something. Nevertheless I was happy that it was here, and the pool was mostly empty, and while it smelled weird, it was so quiet and only one other person was there the whole time I was there. That was much better for my swimming than most others I've tried, especially my home one in Buffalo (Williamsville) where the pool gets so crowded, it's a joke. However, some of the equipment desperately needs replacing, so I can't really give more than a four. Rusted out and really poor for lifting. At least getting in here was no big problem.

In that short time my daughter has alleviated her chronic back pain, improved her posture and appearance, and amazingly even decreased her degree of spinal rotation. It is more than she has ever been able to achieve even in physical therapy. Terri researched her condition, studied her X-rays, and created a customized plan just for her. My daughter feels better not only physically but has grown in confidence and, even more, found a friend. She loves Terri and looks forward to every session with her. She leaves feeling rejuvenated in both body and mind. We are so lucky to have Precision Pilates right here in Syracuse. I would put them up against any Pilates studio anywhere!
