The Nail Social - Gel nails done by Joey. Please note that manicure does not come with ice cream cone

The Nail Social can be found inside a strip mall, between A Corner Cafe (which surprisingly is not…read moreon a corner, lol) and Yin Ji Chang Fen with plenty of parking available. Since my family and I were staying in Markham during our last vacation, I wanted to find a nail salon in the city, which ended up leading me here (which I found on Yelp). There wasn't any information about price though on this Yelp page but am happy to add these photos of the pricing that I took when I arrived. I initially had made an appointment for Tuesday, around 2 pm the day before. However, my lunch with one of my aunts and uncles went longer than expected and so I had to call to cancel and ask if I could change the time to a later time. The girl on the phone was so kind and told me because I wasn't exactly sure what time I would be available to have my nails done, she suggested to call before coming in just so I would not have to wait if I was to do a walk in. So later that day, I called prior and the girl told me to come in, so I walked in around 4:55 pm and waited a little over 10 minutes before being asked to take a seat by an employee named Joey. I wanted to get gel nails, which is different from shellac nails for those that may confuse the two (especially since sometimes nail salons will use both words interchangeably but they are not the same). Shellac nails are kind of like a semi- permanent polish, which doesn't last as long (and also is cheaper than gel nails). But gel nails are a semi- permanent gel nail, which does last a few weeks longer. Gel nails cost $75 for a new set. I also wanted a design (I almost always get a design with my nails, which does cost extra but I don't mind), which I had a photo on my phone to show Joey. I told her what design I wanted for my ring finger and middle finger and the same on the other hand (so total of 4 nails that would have design). Joey told me that cost would be $75, in which she didn't charge me extra for design (so I made sure to tip her higher because of it). I liked that Joey took a photo of the design I had in mind with her camera phone so that she could refer to it on her own phone while she was painting my nails. Joey definitely is very talented and I just loved the design she had, as I picked an ice cream cone with sprinkles. She also helped me to find the right colors that I wanted (I wasn't looking for the exact shade and am pretty flexible). I really loved the way the design and the pink color I picked for the rest of my nails, as it really went with the ice cream theme. Although Joey told me that my nails would last 4 weeks, my nails lasted beyond that (and never chipped or lifted. Being in health care, I don't baby my hands and I also wash them constantly, honestly these were probably the best nails I have ever had done). The only reason I took them off was because it really need a fill since my nails had grown over. Joey told me that she had not done an ice cream cone before and she was also happy with her results too. Now this is my first time getting my nails done in Canada and am not sure if it is not customary to get a hand massage and lotion on your hands after a manicure or not. I didn't get one after this manicure but have always had it done with the nail salons in California and also in Hawaii where I have gotten my nails done. Not a big deal, but I wished I had brought my own lotion to put on since my hands were dry. But overall, I am very happy with my experience and would come back the next time I visit Markham in the future. Please note that they do accept credit card but there is a credit card fee. I ended up paying cash.

Once you've started going to Rupal for eyebrows, it really is hard to start going somewhere else…read more I had moved to the area 7 years ago and found her by fluke through a flyer in the mail. Thank god I took the chance! Now, I've been coming to Rupal for probably over 5 years! She has really transformed my eyebrows. Now, I can go a month without threading and there's barely any growth. They don't get bushy or anything. They just stay as the shape they're supposed to be! It takes time, but you will notice the difference. In the beginning, you will have to keep getting your eyebrows done every few weeks, but eventually, you will be able to go longer and longer without touching them. Rupal does not make your eyebrows overly thin like some places. She gets them to the most natural looking state for your face. I can't forget to mention how sweet and easy going she is! She's very honest and easy to talk to. If you're looking to transform your eyebrows this year, come see Rupal!

My experience was terrifying... I got a Brazilian wax (not for the first time, but this was my first experience at Rupal's) and Trusha waxed the same areas OVER and OVER again. After my appointment; there was still hair left, I was left with a burn/scab, and I was sore for days afterward. Towards the end of my appointment, Rupal appeared in the room and despite her soothing tone, I didn't feel comforted at all. She recommended other (more expensive) treatments and explained that my "type of hair" (I'm a black woman with coarse, curly hair) prevented Trusha from removing all of it. SOME NERVE! Again, this wasn't my first or last time getting a Brazilian wax and I haven't had these issues anywhere else. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place, especially to women with hair like mine. Visit was JUNE 6, 2019.

I came here the other day for a pedicure and shellac manicure. When the girl was grating off the calused part of my foot, she took a chunk of my skin off. I started bleeding and it wouldn't stop. Now, i know it was an honest mistake and she was sorry about it, my problem was how they handled it. She spoke her language with some other technician (no idea if that was the manager) and put a bandaid on it. The manager didn't come to me, nor did anything, no one seemed to care she had accidentally done this. Just a 'oh so sorry' and continued along after putting a band aid on. Afterwards I got a shellac manicure, but the manicure is soooo bumpy, so many bubbles and not evenly done (like it wasn't painted evenly) It kind of sucks because I've heard so many good things about this place, but I also heard that lately they've been over booking and their quality isn't near what they used to be. Clearly after my experience I agree. When I went to pay they charged me full price everything, no discount or anything after they injured me (getting cut on the ball of your foot is annoying to have to walk on afterwards since I couldn't put any pressure if i didn't want it stinging) The only reason i didn't make a fuss was because i was there for all ready 2 hours and was running late for a dance practice (which now i had to sit out from....) Not impressed. Not going back.
