DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. It is the biggest scam I have ever seen. Michael is quite possibly one of the most disgusting, lying, imbeciles I have ever met. He started by saying that they are a family owned company and we won't get random guys moving my stuff off the street like most companies. LIE #1. I was told my furniture would be wrapped in blankets and my mattress would be covered. LIE #2. A truck with the companies name would arrive at 1 Pm with two movers. LIE#3. I scheduled the move for 1 pm and 2:15 rolled around, no show. I called Michael and he promised someone was coming but said their "truck" broke down. This loser doesn't even own a truck. The time got pushed back to 4 and being the understanding and kind person I am I said not to worry no rush. Then the time got pushed back to 7 then to 9 and I just about had it. Michael said the mover that was coming said he was "too tired" so he was going to come himself. He showed up at 10:30 with someone else and instead of apologizing said he was doing me a favor and I just about lost it. A FAVOR? I'm paying 535 for a service you said you would provide. This is not a favor. The move started and he was very rude complaining about the stairs saying this is a favor. I pretty much had it at this point. I asked where the covers were for my furniture and his response " this is a favor, last minute." No you lying sack of shit I scheduled this the week before. He destroyed my furniture. Holes in my brand new mattress And said it's not broken the legs of your chest just fell off... no that would he broken. Then he pushed my chest against the wall to hide the massive hole in the back but sorry for him I saw. I asked to see insurance information but honestly am not sure this company is even insured. I paid half up front and refused to pay until I could verify he was insured. He became aggressive getting in my face yelling saying " give me my fucking money , I'm not playing games" I backed up down the street and he continued to follow me yelling at me and I became extremely frightened as a young female by herself because it now was close to 3 am in the morning. I had to call 911. Police showed up and documented what had happened. Karma will come for Michael one day :) and this won't be the last he hears from me. I'll be taking him to court very soon. Horrible company, wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. We signed off on 3 people to do the job; they sent 4, so we were forced to pay that much more + tip for 4 guys. I contacted the owner. His retort? "They got the job done fast, right?" Condescending a-hole over the phone. This was on top of them showing up to Jersey City (where we were moving from) almost an hour late. Plus they asked for the total fee before they departed with our furniture for the new home!!! That was never mentioned prior. I coerced they guy with $100 cash, and he did it...then was getting an earful from his bosses, who they are clearly not on the same wavelength as. We were also told that we could pay with cc, and once the drivers delivered everything to the new home, were told that they must be paid in full in cash. One thing after the other... Sellers - go somewhere else. Real estate people - I would suggest you advise your clients (if they are seeking movers) to steer clear of these clowns. DO NOT USE, worst moving nightmare come true. Scheduled a move, talked to them multiple times in the week leading up to the move date. Informed them that we had a set time with the elevators reserved, they guaranteed that they'd be there on time to work within the elevator times. On the day of the move, they didn't show up, didn't answer MULTIPLE calls or emails. Eventually they called to let me know they were on their way, 2+ hours late, with only 30 minutes left in the elevator reservation. By that point we had frantically rented a U-Haul and begged friends to help us pack and move. COMPLETE DISASTER, DO NOT EVER USE. Yelp needs a ZERO stars option because Excel Carriers deserves that. This is by far the WORST company I could have hired to do anything, let alone a basic move as I contracted them to. Three TEENAGERS were sent to my apartment at 11 AM when I was supposed to start moving at 9 AM because the building I was moving out of could only accommodate one mover at a time that day. They took unrealistically long loading the truck so I decided to check on them and found them SMOKING. I won't even get into specifics about that but when I called the supreme idiot of an owner or manager, Michael, he made it seem like "smoking, so what?" My initial quote by email and phone was $465 and they charged me $1400 when all was said and done. They wanted it in cash and I had to leave these young, HIGH, blockheads unattended in my apartment while I ran to the bank. I wouldn't wish even a phone call from this clown company on anyone. My experience was horrific and I am not surprised that the other reviewers had similar things to say. Supposedly they are all US Veterans and that's why I chose their business to support them. This is above how much he lies just to get a job We signed off on 2 people to do the job to show up at 1pm in Jersey City. Our building doesn't allow moves after 6pm. These guys showed up over 5 hours late and I had to beg my super to let me move out at that late hour. They threatened to leave my things on the curb if I didn't tip well. My wife and I made a major mistake not checking these spot on reviews before booking Excel Carriers. Anthony was attentive and offered a good price to move my daughter to her new apartment. But when it came time to get the job done, no one at Excel was available. We had scheduled a 1:00 to 3:00 window over Labor Day Weekend, but no one ever showed OR called. I accept no excuse that is was a over a holiday. Our calls went to an answering machine so I found another number online. The first response from the person who answered my call was "how did you get this number?" He then lied to me be saying all the trucks were currently out but they would still arrive. I was supposed to receive a call as well. After a long day of doing the move ourselves, my wife received a call from someone in the "network" who knew that Anthony had failed us but could do the job the next day. Complete disaster. DO NOT USE. We had an appointment for 9 am and they didn't show up until 2pm. Then they showed up with the wrong truck, then had to wait until 6 pm for the right truck to show up. They broke my fathers desk which is priceless to me because my father is no longer alive. When we got to the new house they raised our price from $500 (the contract we signed) to $1700. And told us they were going to leave with our stuff if we didn't pay. They then tried to get in the truck and drive away with all our stuff. We got the cops involved due to them trying to steal our stuff. When we called the boss to try and figure out why we were being charged $1200 more than we agreed he responded by saying "go to the fucking bank and get my fucking money or your not getting your fucking stuff". The owner was even cursing and being disrespectful to the cops that came claiming he could keep our stuff if we didn't pay him $1700. We eventually made an agreement and paid. Then to realize they had broken multiple things and that we were missing a few things also. I want to share my SHOCKING EXPERIENCE with you. We booked this company to help us move two days ago from one city to another in NJ. After we placed more than 10 calls to the manager when the movers did not arrive between 1 and 3 PM (the slot provided to us), they informed us that the movers will not be able to come over! After requesting a lot they sent another team at 6 PM. But due to this we lost our slot of the service elevator at andthe place we we're moving to and had to request themanagement to help us out with another slot. The other movers team did help us move but they refused from unloading our stuff unless we paid them way extra than what was agreed upon. We finally said yes because we have a newborn baby and if we would have said no, we'd have no place to go to. Once they started unloading they RAN AWAY in the middle without assembling ANY furniture. My husband chased the guys and begged them to stop but they didn't. I have only seen this stuff in movies!!! We had a very difficult time as we were left with all living room, bedroom and baby furniture that needed assembly, and sofas that had to be put at the right spot. All this after we paid them much more than what was agreed upon. Their pathetic poor quality service didn't just end there. They damaged many of our furniture pieces and one of the guys was very careless, he damaged the walls of our new house at multiple places and placed a huge scratch on the floor. So now we will also have to pay the management when we end the lease of this apartment. I am very very disappointed and I wish there was a way to redeem their wrongdoings. read more

The price that Anthony said that I was was going to pay was on the invoice which I signed to $355. After the two Spanish men loaded the truck they added another $200 to my bill. Saying that charge was for them driving from base to and from my apartments. I was moving from Newark to Orange. Keep in mind I already spoke with Anthony and ASKED him if this is the final price because all I moved was a queen size bedroom set a fan about 25 boxes a small microwave a small 3 compartment shoe shelf. Anthony said yes. I said to him are they going to jack up the price on me and he assured me the $355 is all I'm going to pay. The driver also added tips to the price (who does that)? I've already budgeted for the move and I have to go into my utilities money to pay them. Or else he wasn't going to unload my bedroom set off the truck. And my things got damaged. read more

BEAWARE!!!! I wouldn't even give them a 1 except I wanted to post! I experienced the worst bait and switch in my life! I was quoted $390, and it was $100 hourly for anything above the quote. The only extra service I agreed to was wrapping my couches for "around $40." The movers were great and handled my items with care, but in the end they handed me a bill for $1360!!!!! They state, in their contract "Should There be any Other Services Requested,Additional Costs Will be Applied(Packing Services Or An Increase Of The Listed Inventory)." I NEVER REQUESTED additional boxes at $60 per box for my vacuumed sealed "STORAGE" bags" for my clothes, they just used them. I double bubbled wrapped and shrink wrapped my televisions per the manager, although he said just "wrapped." So definitely didn't agree to the $75 boxes for those. My quote had 40 pieces listed and when I finally got owner on the phone to complain about the price, I was told I had to pay more because I had more than my list, and that I filled the truck. I don't care if I filled your truck, because I only had the items I listed. The crazy part was things like my bed was listed as 1 King (with mattresses) on quote. At storage they were telling my that it's counted as 5! The mover actually said, "We don't know that you have a head board and foot board when quoting," (even though on quote it says (w/ mattresses). Of course I went over then, as you are counting pieces of what was broken down!!!!! I can go on and on with the unprofessional service they provided when it came to charges and the unbelievable ability for the owner to be on the other end of the phone threatening to take my items to his storage if I didn't pay the price. He "waved" the packing fee for things like 18 rolls of tape they charged me for , EVEN THOUGH HE SAID THAT WAS FREE when he was on the phone quoting me. I still have no idea how he got to the price he did as I never saw the price list of itemized things that was flashed at me after they handed me the original bill. When talking with the owner and the workers trying to settle things, their stories kept changing about where the charges actually came from. I was prepared for some sort of additional prices due to extra hourly rate, but triple the price was unbelievable! I would NEVER recommend this company under any circumstances! read more

Avoid if possible. Made major mistake by hiring them!!!They only do hourly job and not fixed priced. Initially the sales person will quote low. On the day of the move, the amount they will charge you is much higher. In my case, after loading the truck, the person said he needs full payment before offloading the items at my new place. The sales office was closed at that time or even if it is open, they are not reachable. I had no option but to pay him based on their calculation that total job will take 4 hours. The actual job was finished with in 2 hours and 45 mins. Of course, they did not return my money. Beware of few things. 1. They charge 75 USD per flight(stairs) which sales guy will never mention. On the very first call with the sales guy I mentioned that I have stairs in both the apartments but he never mentioned anything about extra charge. 2. The rates in the quote that I received and the one that their employee (person who came for moving) was carrying was different. He said he will follow what he has been provided by his office. Had the same problems the other reviewers are reporting. They showed up 1/2 late and then rushed us into signing a contract. Loading our furniture was pretty much normal but when we arrived at our new place they demanded payment in full before unloading. That was not a problem until they told us the bill was more than twice what they said on the phone when we booked them and it was cash only no checks or credit cards. They charge an hour (min) travel time from their office to my home even though they are five minutes away. They then charged for hundreds of rolls of tape and "other" packing material which we were told would be free when we booked. They also charged for extra hours over the quoted price and when we complained about the speed they worked the answer was "of course we work slow, were paid by the hour". The best part was they would not unload our furniture and would leave with it if we didn't pay. Of course they told us this was all in the contract which they had rushed us into signing without reading. This company does not deserve one star and really should be investigated by the police but they do protect themselves pretty well with the "contract" that has nothing in it that they tell you when you book them. This company is a sham, they will quote you a very low price, tell you they will take expert care of your belongings, then hit you with a huge bill BEFORE they take your stuff off the truck at your new place. I was quoted $420 for a small apartment move ONE BLOCK away. How much did they charge??? $1400!!!!!!!!!!! This does not even include any living room furniture besides a TV (oh yeah that's $75 extra). The tl;dr you should take away from this review here is that the owner literally yelled "f*** you, you wh*re" at my friend over speakerphone. Please, PLEASE do not use this company. Let me explain the full story: I'm a young doctor who just moved to Philadelphia using this company. The guys who actually did the moving were super sweet! Mario and everyone, you're great. :-) They got lost on the way down from NYC to Philly and took 5 hours to arrive, so we called the owners to discuss an adjustment of the hourly price given that the drive was listed as two hours on several mapping apps but it took more than twice that time (we took Megabus from NYC to Philly in 2.5 hours). The owner was extremely aggressive and resistant over the phone; the first thing he did was to call the friend on the phone a "wiseass" and tell her (this is verbatim, over speakerphone, on the streets of Philadelphia) "you're a f***ing b**ch" and "f*** you, you wh*re." We had a number of conversations with the son of the owner, and he seems like a perfectly reasonable, normal man - I'm sorry he has to deal with this. If the father removes himself from the business, I think this could be a lovely moving company! But if you have to interact with Anthony Senior absolutely do not use them. Worst experience EVER! I have relocated not only within the US but also moved countries so have had a fair amount of experience with shipping companies. Never have I had as many issues with shipping than I have had with Excel. They DO NOT live up to their name the only thing they are 'excelling' at is poor customer service where your items will be spilling out of their boxes and damaged. Our expected delivery date kept being moved out - items arrived a month later than we were told and there was no clear communication during that time as to the exact whereabouts of our items. When we were able to get in touch with the office the service was patchy. At its worst the owner became melodramatic and abusive over the phone - seems he likes to blame the victim and takes no responsibility for the poor service he is providing his customers. We asked for a discount on the initial quote due to the late delivery time and after much back and forth they gave us a discount - but the ordeal to get to that agreement was painful. read more

Just today had an excellent experience with this company and thought it necessary to credit them with a good review. I've moved many times so I've had the good experiences and I've had the bad. What I will say is without a doubt this was the best experience I have had from start to finish with a moving company. The service upfront was honest. They didn't aim to give me the lowest estimate just to get my business. They worked with me honestly to give me the most accurate estimate possible and the final price came in actually BELOW the estimated price because they finished in a faster time than estimated. There was zero hassle with the move itself and Igor the foreman was communicative and honest and the whole team went out of their way to do a careful and expedient job. You are warned-Stay far away from this company. They are scammers. Initially, they will offer a lower price. Then on moving day, they charge for "extras." Extras such as certain furniture cannot go on the truck without an extra charge. Some furniture has to be taped with a fee or it cannot go on the truck. They charge for elevators, for walk ups. for walking(they really do). All of this they do not tell you until moving day. Also they had me leave a security deposit and said it would be deducted from my total on the moving day. On the moving day, they said I had to pay the full amount(which ended up being $300 more than the quote) and they would refund my credit card. I also had the experience where they came with a small truck instead of a normal one. They had to do 2 shifts and refused to unload the second shift unless I went to the bank and got them additional cash! Please know that if a mover does this to you, call the Police immediately. The workers took a looooong lunch break and left their garbage everywhere. They also broke a few of my belongings and even came back to pick up a wardrobe they broke as they claimed they would get it fixed. I hired Excel carriers for an in town move in central New Jersey in 11/2012. Their license plate number XY647N. The initial quote was $450.00. After they loaded my stuff on the truck they gave my wife a $900.00 invoice. After they arrived at the destination location, I was told that there will be another $250.00 extra cost because our place was more than 100 feet from where they parked their truck. To make the long story short, I had to pay $1100.00 to get all my stuff for an in town move from South Plainfield, NJ to Morris Plains, NJ. They damaged my furniture and told me it was damaged before. I was heart-broken, sad, helpless and angry. These guys are nothing but a bunch extortionists, bully and flat out mean people. Here to completely echo what the others have said. DO NOT USE THESE DISHONEST, DISHONORABLE GUYS. "Michael" with Excel Carriers/www.militarycarriers.com literally was cursing his ex-wife (you'll see why she divorced him in a second), saying--to me, a total stranger/potential new customer--"May she rot in hell!" once I mentioned where I wanted to move from (same town as his ex I guess). That should have been my first clue not to go with these guys. Michael played up his Marine/veteran experience, lowballed me and the other firms I'd gotten quotes from by a few hundred dollars, and then promptly sent me an email estimate verifying the same figures. Great deal I thought. The guys showed up (three) on time on a spring Saturday morning, told me they could only take cash (in spite of Michael stressing that any form of payment worked), then started adding on extras for wrapping, taping, cushioning, stairs, you name it. The figure quickly added up to two and a half times the original estimate, with the actual movers (who I should say were courteous, professional and careful) making a point to say we should tip at least 20%--also in cash). I should also add that we had to make a stop at a second site to move a second set of furniture and the movers were great about that...it's just the dishonesty and omissions on the part of Michael/management I have a problem with. We had to stop and get cash out twice from ATM's to cover the increased costs, add-ons, and fees. The actual move-in to the new home went fairly quickly, with the exception of the movers stepping in mulch on each step into the home, thus tracking black, greasy marks in on our newly-shampooed rental home's carpet--on three floors. They also chipped an expensive new dresser and broke an entertainment center's shelf, in spite of us paying so much for taping, cushioning, wrapping, etc. I photographed everything, and immediately called Michael, who gave me some labyrinthine website for us to file a "claim" and have our furniture fixed. Michael said they were "stand-up guys" who stood behind their (dishonestly pitched and expensive) services, at which time I told him about our multiple carpet stains. I also provided him pictures as proof of all the damages. Michael told me to have the carpets shampooed and to use the claims site and he would cover the costs. I have now sent five or six separate emails with the Stanley Steemer invoice attached. This was almost $200, on top of the original moving bill being two and a half times the original promised estimate--not to mention the furniture damage that is still not repaired. I have called Michael, who dodged all my attempts like a complete coward. He also took weeks to refund my original $50 deposit to book their moving services, saying "their machine was down" or some such nonsense. In short, Excel Carriers/www.militarycarriers.com is led by Michael and other clearly dishonest, dishonorable, lying, cowardly people. They will overcharge you, damage your goods, make promises they either can't or don't intend to keep, and then avoid your calling them on it. It is especially pathetic since they trade so hugely on being veterans with all the connotations that entails. My next step is to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. OMG!!! I dont know where to start...you are warned...dont even think of calling them to move your stuff...total scamsters, give a lot of fake promises and rude...it all started well when I got a decent quote to move my one bed room within a 10 mile radius..I got charged double of what I was quoted and promised even though I had kept everything ready from my end...both Mike and Gordon speak very sweetly on the phone to get you to sign them...i should have trusted all the reviews online the quote was for per hour for 3 people and on that day, only 2 guys showed up.. Their modus operandi works like this - lesser guys showed up, take their own sweet time to load a one bed room, after loading give a bill which I didn't agree, both the drivers and Mike said we will sort it out upon delivery... After reaching my new place they demand money even though I was told I could pay by credit card..when I did not agree, they kept waiting and charged me for it, spoke rudely and threatened me by saying they will call the cops..when I said the same, they backed down but said I have to pay for the waiting period till the cops come..the main guy calls and keep shouting and gives $5 discount for having one person less.. the guys demanded in cash and when I had no option, he demanded that I tip him. He told me that we would put back the beds together only if I tipped him $40 even though the contract included the assembly of the bed...horrible experience and I ended up paying more than double the cost that I had agreed with them.. If I could give negative stars, I would. This company completely scammed us. Initially Anthony, their "sales" guy, seemed like a nice guy. Communicated well, answered calls and emails, sent the COI to our new association, gave me a fair quote and even called to confirm the move two days before. Was supposed to be paid in cash the day of. Then move day came and their true colors showed. We were moving out of two separate one bedroom apartments and into a new place. They gave us an arrival time of 8-10am. We were helping with the move and using them for the heavy furniture, so we moved everything we could out to the curb, waiting for them. 10am rolls around and no sign of them, so I call Anthony and he lets me know they are on the way, within a half hour. Long story short, they never showed up or answered calls for the rest of the day. We called from 4 different phone numbers, no answer. Finally at 2pm, we had to rent a truck and move ourselves, and scramble to find people to help. Some of our furniture was damaged because we were forced to rush and move ourselves. The best was, after the fact, Mike said he would send us $200 for the inconvenience, obviously that never happened. And when I called Anthony to complain about the scam, he told me that it wasn't a big deal and it was like "going on a blind date and the guy doesn't show up, it happens." I don't know how they sleep at night scamming people like this, promising to do a job and obviously taking another job last minute and leaving people stranded on an already stressful day. Anthony is the worst kind of person with whom you can deal with. He turns on a dime and does exactly opposite of what he says after he gets your contract. Before the contract he stated it is Payment on delivery, as soon as the truck got loaded he demanded 50 %, He said there will be no extra payments if you manage to unload the Truck on the date that was agreed upon , when it was delayed by half a day he washed his hands off and said it is up to the guy who delivers it, who is a totally different operator. He didn't provide a packing list and didn't even bother to acknowledge my request. Wish I had read these reviews. I was scammed too. Over an hour late. Once my furniture was packed on their truck they called me and demanded cash, threatening to not deliver my beloved furniture. They also demanded more money than the original quote. The men on the phone were very demeaning, sarcastic. The money does not bother me; it is how they handle their business. These guys behave as though they have very tiny penises. Please make a better choice. STAY AWAY from this company. read more
