I have spent many a birthday or anniversary at a local Grocery Outlet or favorite Health Food Store, Forget Disneyland - grocery stores are where the real magic happens. And Rusticana is one such blessed spot. We had just arrived in Canada in the late evening and I wasn't having much luck at two bigger grocery stores in Calgary. There was a staleness about them. They didn't feel right. And so driving through Canmore - my husband suggested I see if there were any grocery/health stores open in the area. It was nearing 11 in the evening and most of the area was quiet. I was surprised to see that there was indeed one darling store open - Rusticana. I had a good feeling - the moment I read its name aloud - and proudly announced to my husband: "This is the one." We pulled up and I ran out. It was close to their closing time, but the kind man behind the counter smiled at me and encouraged me to look around. The place was beautifully curated with magical grocery gems everywhere. I kept on ooohing and aahing down every aisle. There was non dairy milk, specialty fresh meats, freshly baked goods, and soooo much more. There was so much goodness packed into such a cute space. I could have spent hours in Rusticana - but I quickly grabbed some fun finds and made my way to the counter to pay. Pure happiness beamed from my face. We went to many other grocery stores throughout our time in Canada - but none spoke to me quite the same way that lovely Rusticana did. If you're in the area and looking for a treat - stop in here. Trust.

This store has everything groceries, specialty foods, magazines, lottery, ice cream, bakery products, specialty meats, Beaver Tails daily from 10am to 10pm, Rusty's Liquor Daily 11am to 11pm. Summers are extremely busy and lineups are common and in the winter the store still attracts many locals and visitors. Their prices are quite reasonable.

I got the lemongrass chicken vermicelli bowl which was fabulous. I could eat that every day. Another person in our group got mushroom char sui bao and said it was great.

I, myself, tried THE MIXED BAG - alberta pork kimchi dumplings, wasabi pork sui mai, chicken and vegetable dumplings, all the sauces...it was fun to mix and match the dumplings with all the 4 sauces. The dumplings were full of the filling and perfectly steamed. My friends had the SPICY CHICKEN BURGER - crispy alberta chicken, le fournil + BLAKE co-lab chili sesame milk bun, teriyaki, garlic mayo, iceberg, japanese curry hot sauce, sweet and spicy chips, the GINGER BEEF DUMPLING SOUP broth, red pepper, scallion, compressed celery with a side of CORNBREAD WAFFLES - hot honey, organic butter, coal salt, and the RETURN OF THE MAC "craft dinner" rotating pasta, craft beer, bacon, peas, cheddar, parm, quebec cheese curds, umami ketchup. Everyone was happy with their dishes, and I would go back again to try more. The reason why it lost a star was it took a long time initially to get a server to get us menus and our drinks, other than that it was spot on with food.

The rest were art, crafts, ceramics, small business people, and food vendors. Everything was very nice and clean, there is a good amount of free parking (a rarity in Canmore), and the vendors and the customers were very friendly and pleasant. I was pleasantly entertained for an hour, and spent about $80 dollars at a real farmer's sausage stand. Thank You, Uncle Bernie, you saved the day. Five Stars.

Can believe at the mountain town like this has a decent farmer market. Although is only about three blocks, they have quite a unique vendors. We saw the inventor vender such as coffee homemade grinders. The grinder also can grind pepper, sea salt and more. A lot of home made food such as the apple strudel, cake bakery, Canadian waffles, crepes, bison burger. There also veggies and fruit vendor after all this is a farmer market. There is art vendors also displayed their best product. Overall this is beautiful backdrop with mountain range. The market is nice to walk on since the weather is really nice at this time of year. The visitors center of the Canmore is just next to the market if you want to visit.

There were little reserved placards on all of the tables even though we showed up less than half an hour after they opened so we were nervous about being able to get a table without a wait, but our server simply removed one of the placards and offered us that table. My boyfriend got the bacon and tomato two eggs benedict and I got the omurice. He got the matcha latte and I got the matcha milk tea with boba. Portions were generous for breakfast. The omurice was very much a thoroughly cooked omelette over rice and not the runny type that first popularized the dish on social media, but it was tasty nonetheless. The matcha had a healthy green color to it and a very pleasant taste, and even though it was one of the pricier breakfast experiences we had on our trip it was very much a unique one that we didn't expect to find on our visit to Canada. Our server was very attentive with refilling our waters and knowledgable about the menu when we asked for recommendations. I would totally recommend Wagashi Tea House to anyone looking for authentic Japanese hospitality and food crafted with high-quality ingredients and great attention to detail.
