Twas' the Millarville Market Before Xmas…read more Twas' over a month until Xmas, and in Millarville, A Market was open, despite of the chill, The Artists had gathered, their wares all laid out, To sell to the people, of that there's no doubt, The cookies were out with their prices all marked, The fudge and the cakes and the sweet candy bark, The paintings all hung on the walls with great care, With dreams of the moola from shoppers right there, The fires were stoked to keep vendors quite hot, As people drove in to go fill up the lot, And deep in the middle was a Yelper named Jay, Cooking great Asian cuisine all throughout the day, The buildings were filled then with holiday cheer, With great local mead which was better than beer, And plenty of goodies were there then to try, Like fresh jams and jellies, and cakes made with Rye, And also for sale were the scarves and bright hats, Gloves and the bright Christmas themed welcome mats, There in that corner were many green wreaths, And tinsel and all sorts of warm burning heaths, And Hot Choc was shared by the friends and the kids, And parents were sipping the java through lids, This market but comes just a weekend a year, Close 'round Rememberance when we shed a tear, The drive is quite pleasant, through country so clean, Much less than an hour, you know what I mean, The kids had dear Santa for pictures so cute, The children so thrilled that they often were mute, And also there was a great hay ride for fun, And ponies to ride, lots of space to run, But now I did go to find ideas to check, Get gift shopping done and why not, what the heck, Indulge a bit more in that great Asian food, For Jay's awesome cooking put me in the mood, As I drove off back to the town with my stuff, The market was awesome, I'll be back, sure 'nough! #48 of Yelp's 30-Day Review Challenge (dedicated to Eats of Asia's inaugural weekend by 2012 Yelper Elite, Jay Del Corro, Margaret of Primal Eats and the Naaco Truck team!)

Oh this is such an adorable little (big) market. it's a bit of a drive outside of Calgary, but well…read moreworth the journey. There is so much fresh produce, eggs, and meat! There is honey and many other goodies available for purchase as well as art and handmade treasures. I love true Farmer's Markets, they have such delicious food, that is so much better for you and I really don't find the prices that much more expensive unless what you are looking for is grossly out of season. Go check this place out, it doesn't disappoint!

Took a break from reading comprehension and accompanied the grade 5's on a field trip here the…read moreother day to learn about wetlands! The architecture in this place is absolutely amazing! Each section is so beautifully and thoughtfully done! The website says: Welcome to Granary Road. The founders of Granary Road are local Calgarians with kids just like you. 2 years ago we struck out to build a wonderful destination for the whole family. Granary Road is a rich life experience for everyone. Mom, Dad and Grandparents can sip coffee from the Bakery while musing over fresh organic produce in the public Market or nibble on something delicious from the Bistro while the kids explore the adventures of an Active Learning Park the likes of which Alberta, and maybe North America, has never seen before. There's so much to do... ...in a place that has found the perfect blend of nostalgic ambiance and thrilling fun. We've thought of something for everyone: * The Market at Granary Road is a friendly, upscale market that is charismatic and eclectic with first class vendors from 30+ different product categories including our fresh produce vendor who grows vegetables in our on-site green house just steps from where they are sold. Granary Road is set in an intimate, newly constructed wood clad building that replicates the charm of a traditional granary and echoes the pastoral beauty of the rolling foothills that surround it. Closely modeled after a Sonoma Valley winery, the Granary Road market features brilliant natural light and spectacular views. * The Bistro, Bakery and Bar at Granary Road are the flagship centerpiece of the market offering market and park goers a broad range of delicious baked goods, casual dining and refreshing wine, beer or cocktails. * The Active Learning Park at Granary Road is filled with acres of imaginative, energetic learning experiences for kids of all ages. Giant animatronic frogs, bats and spiders greet visitors as they walk 3 kilometers of trails connecting 11 different educational and heart-pounding fun exhibits. Each stop is based on an animal, insect or agricultural theme with an interactive learning component and an exciting activity like a 16' foot web climber that has a giant wolf spider at the top or a 4-story bigger than life ant farm with an obstacle course in the tunnels or an echolocation bat maze where kids navigate using sound plus many other great experiences. Your family will want to come back again and again!

Heard about this market from a girlfriend and decided to take a Sunday drive with the family. What…read morea beautiful, clean and amazing market! I have no idea how much we spent but there must have been 30 samples and I tasted about 20 items, haha!!! We bought hot pepperoni, honey garlic and a bundnerfleisch. I've no idea how to say it but I have a pic of it. There's various package sizes of the assorted meats with a great variety of cheese too. We bought yellow curry and sampled so many things! The vendors are extremely friendly and we really liked the lady who sells wood items that's been burnt and etched with 10,000 volts. Totally visit her kiosk!!! Next up, the dip station. We sampled crab dip, bacon dip and red pepper hummus. Bought the bacon dip. The retro candy kiosk was really neat...we ended up with 5 dif chocolate bars. We also bought 2 soup mixes and then met the hand pie lady. OMG... her pastry is 100% butter based so it's crunchy not super flaky. If you like a dense, crunchy crust - go here! Boys had the Aussie beef pie for dinner and I had a lamb pie. I can't rave enough about it. Served it with celery and carrots sticks with the bacon dip - Sunday dinner in a pinch! After the vendors, we headed outside for a free hayride pulled by a tractor. The greenhouse has a petting zoo, with sheep, rabbits, an alpaca photo booth and a bunch of games. Overall, we had a great time and can't wait to return. Those meat pies beat simple Simon pies hands down with substantial portions. Next time I'll try a fruit pie. There's a ton of other cool vendors but you really should check it out for yourself!
