One of the better city farmer's markets I've visited, though I can't be sure how many of the vendors are really farmers selling their wares. I think of it in terms of more of an open air market with vendors of all walks selling their specialties. And what a diverse market it is. Food choices range from Canadian fare to Burmese, Indian, Thai, Ukrainian, Korean, Italian and more another half dozen I'm omitting. We opted for an excellent array of Indian dishes all being prepared on the spot, and what a delight they were. Other purchases ranged from Spanish and Afghani saffrons and some specialty curries to local wildflower honey, some excellent cheeses and olives, fresh baguettes from a French bakery, and a tin of highly prized Canadian wild caviar that will be consumed alongside some of the other delectables picked up at the market. Looking for some antiques and used knick-knacks? Something off the normal grid? It's here. Plenty of it, too. Not a few, but what seemed like a dozen butcher shops all offering their specialities... dizzying. Fine raw cuts, specialty jerkies, smoked meats, and everything from lamb to chicken, beef and pork and more. Didn't see any moose, but wouldn't be surprised if there was. Ample, large parking lot just for the market, and literally more choices than you can likely take in without spending a better part of the day. I'd come here often if I lived here, and maybe I will some day. Very highly recommended for hungry souls, those who know how to cook and are hunting for specialty, hard-to-find fresh foods, and those who do not know how to cook but love great choices. My heart sank when I walked through the indoor antique/flea market area of Crossroads Market. I was thinking "oh not another one of those "markets"!! But when I walked through to the outdoor area with stalls and stalls of vendors selling fresh fruits and vegetables, now I realized why this Market has an average of 4 stars on Yelp! Fresh produces in season. There are also so many varieties of peppers! So colourful and enjoyable to just browsed around. I ended up getting a peach to snack on which was so big that I could barely held that in my palm. read more

The Crossroads Market is a combination of trendy and eclectic. Walking through the food vendors, you can buy and taste a variety of products and dishes! Definitely get the salsa from Chongo's! The mango salsa is especially delicious and a lot cheaper than trying to buy a perfect mango and trying to make it yourself! Turn around a corner and you will find yourself in an old fashioned flea market, with antiques, treasures and collectibles. The merchants are seasoned sellers and can give you lots of history about their items! Favourite place to eat there? There are lots! On our last visit, I had bibimbap (Korean rice bowl w. beef) while my husband had chilaquiles (Mexican chicken and sauce layered with tortillas and cheese) Yum! Used to come here for random flea market excursions but have since started coming here weekly for groceries. I love that this place has a farmers market year round. We get our farm fresh dark yolk eggs here almost every week, you can get them at the same place as the honey is sold, and I think these are the cheapest in the market. We also get sliced bacon at Regina's butcher stall - it is fantastic and such a crowd pleaser. Have yet to have see a single disappointed face after brunch at our house! We have also purchased some ribs and pork loin - both were incredible. Produce is reasonably priced and we can usually get all we need for a week for less than 20 dollars. Such a good deal. The produce section is also littered with samples so you can taste before you buy. Huge selection of apples, you could probably go for a few months of buying a different variety each week without hitting the same one twice. Love the honey crisp and pink ladies! So good! They also have beautiful fingerling potatoes, they really are top shelf. I love one stop shopping and I also prefer shopping here to shopping in big groceries. To be honest, Saturdays at the market has become one of our favorite rituals. What a funky little market! I drive by this place often when visiting in Calgary and I finally got around to checking it out inside! You'll find a variety of charming little shops selling everything from clothing to antiques, jewelry, cell phone cases, dog treats and comic books. They also have a large food market section with every cheese under the sun and any type of deli meat you could imagine. Im guessing this place is phenomenal in the summer when there are fresh fruits and veggies available. The reason we stopped in was to try waffles and Chix, but there is a big "restaurant row" and it's lucky we decided ahead of time because I could have agonized over that decision for the rest of the day. It helps get to an eclectic bunch of wares more suitable to middle class folks who don't want or need the upper middle sophistication found at Calgary Farmer's Market. Only a few of the stalls are excellent: 1. At the Turkish food stall, the lamb shank and other full meals excellent value in taste, nutrition and size 2. MK Quilting had some excellent work that would wonderfully adorn any wall or piece of sizable furniture, or table top. But they've moved out. 3. One of the sausage shops that promotes top quality cuts and such is for real. I forget the name, but if you tour the place, you can spot it right beside one of the joined building arches. But many of the rest are out and out dogs: 3. one of the jam vendors is blatantly pushing inferior tasteless stuff 4. Simple Simon pies are for simpletons, because the ingredients are just not all that yummy, and some as flat as a pancake. Not there at all! 5. One leather working shop is chinzy and of poor quality 6. At least one meat shop is pretending to be a butcher shop, and is pulling a fast one on customers. Caveat emptor. I don't go there often anymore because the over-all quality just isn't there. But the Turkish lamb shank meal is worth returning to. Maybe some day this market will get an upgrade. read more

I used to come here a lot, then started going to Calgary's farmer market for a few years, mostly on Thursday's. I like them both, but started coming here for chongos, the Perogy guy, the red burger bus sometimes! But mainly because they renovated it! It looks nicer, has some same and new vendors!! Prices are reasonable, but I still don't buy a lot of my meat here! I love my guy at sage beef at Calgary farmers market!! I love the Hutterite bumbleberry pie! It is the best!! read more

My husband loves this market over Kingsland Market any day. He just finds the variety at Kingsland limited and expensive. (I disagree a wee bit) My father would have loved the flea market aisles at Crossroads and he would have stayed there all day long. I liked this market for the vast variety - I just can never figure out where I am in there or which way I am going. (compass required and I am sure I would be able to find one here!) Great fruit and veggie stands. There is a nice butcher that has amazing lamb, we buy from him all the time. (lamb guy only takes cash) Anything you could want you would find here - flowers, bakery items, nuts, Bison, ice cream, prepared food, Quebec produced maple syrup, pet store, jerky, a 3 pronged adapter... whatever! read more

If you're looking for a unique "flea market" experience I think this is it. It is a flea market / farmers market all wrapped into one. There are tons of flea market booths mixed in with some great food market booths/locations. I like to come here during a busy weekend and see what is going on. It is a very popular spot and usually busy both Saturday and Sunday. read more

Buyers beware! Ask lot of questions and inspect your fruits and vegetables before you pay! The market prices are not low, so you want to know what you are paying for. We, my daughter and I, went to Crossroad Market yesterday to pick some cukes for pickling. I bought 10lb bag for $30.00 and my daughter bought 5lb bag for $15.00. Small cukes on the outside and giant ones inside, well hidden. My daughters we mouldy. In my years of pickling never had this happen to me. I do not remember the name of the seller, but she is located in the tent, on the left hand side at very top. I'm not saying that some sellers are better/or worse. The layout of the market was very strange, but I think its because the market is pretty much a couple of separate buildings connected together to form the market. There is a flea market section where you can buy random used items. And there is a fresh produce area where you can buy fresh meats, fruits, veggies, breads, cheeses, and cooked foods area (food court-ish, but it was pretty spread out due to the strange layout of the market). I didn't end up buying any fresh produce from this market, we just bought a snack because we were hungry, and we couldn't find any food that we wanted for lunch. We picked up some pastries from Alaturka. Both items had had spinach and cheese. One of them is similar to spanakoptia, and the other is like a pide that is filled with spinach and cheese. I was once a vendor in the Crossroads Market. I think that lasted about three whole weeks when my old roommate and I got it into our heads that we were going to try and sell hand painted reproductions that were imported from China (ask me for the full story sometime in person). From a vendor point of view, Crossroads Market has some draw because there are a few spaces that you can rent a table rather than an entire booth, you can rent it by the week, and it's a might easier to get into on shorter notice than the farmer's market over by the barracks. The year we were there, there wasn't much of a crowd leading up to Christmas. According to the long term tenants, that was unusual for that time of year. But it made for some rather boring and unproductive weekends, not to mention the fact that there isn't really a market for hand painted reproductions imported from China in Calgary. From a visitor point of view, Crossroads Market has so much to see. You can find trinkets, clothing, toys, posters, jewellery, and all kinds of different foods like fresh produce, meats, pies, honey and everything in between. It's an amusing way to spend an hour or so and a yummy way to stock of your fridge and freezer for the coming week. There are also a number of vendors selling gluten free items. Wackiest thing I remember seeing on the last visit: official Star Trek Ken and Barbie dolls. read more

I don't think it's fair to compare Crossroads Market to other farmers' markets, as it's much more of a flea market than anything else. Located just south of Inglewood, it is very easy to find and there is lots of free parking. Inside, Crossroads Market is a maze of vendors. A large portion of the vendors sell antiques and used goods, or food products (including two gluten-free sellers), but other vendors exist as well (ALL your VHS needs can be met at Crossroads!). You'll need to bring cash here- many vendors don't take cards and the ATMs all seemed to be out of service. My friend and I visited today solely for the food court, which we'd heard had some interesting vendors selling foods from around the world. I have to admit I was tempted by a few different stalls in the food court. The deep fried bread ("langos") at one of the Hungarian vendors reminded me of the same dish- called "placinta"- I'd breakfasted on most mornings in the Maramures this summer. I recall one distinctly Mexican stall that had amazing-looking breakfast dishes (Chilaquiles? Si, por favor!), as well another stall that advertised "donairs and wraps- with Latin food on the side!". There was also an Indian booth where you could get up to three curries (from a selection of six) with rice and naan for a very reasonable price. However, in the end I couldn't miss out on the chance to reminisce about the flavours of Turkey (another stop on my summer holiday) and went with a combination plate from Anatolia. For six dollars I received an entire eggplant, roasted and stuffed with vegetables, served on a bed of rice and surrounded with samples of their tabbouleh, white bean salad and cucumber salad. It took me right back to seaside dining along the Turkish coast- delish! I was really happy to see so many families with their childing dining in the food court at Crossroads- what a great way to teach your children to enjoy the foods of other cultures! Your kids could be eating cabbage rolls and pierogies while sharing a table with someone eating aloo gobi and samosas! read more

Unlike many so called "Farmer's Markets" in town, this one has a large number of farmer-vendors in the outdoor section from May through to October (the indoor market is open year round). Many of them are Hutterites, or schlep their wares from BC, and if you have the patience to wait until just before close on Sunday, you can get boxes of produce at fire sale prices. Even during regular hours though, prices are usually quite reasonable, and you typically get a good selection. For example, I like that you can find five or six varieties of cherries when they are in season! Some veg, like pattypan squash or REAL new potatoes, you probably won't ever find at your usual grocery store. The year-round indoor portion of the market has a couple dozen food vendors (e.g. honey, eggs, gluten free snacks, baked items, cheese, sausage, Simple Simon pies, and butchers) and concessions which are decent. The back of the building has a bunch of dry goods vendors with a flea market feel and can be easily passed up...only bother coming to Crossroads Market while fruit and veg are in season. read more

My girlfriend found this market while I was away at work and told me that we had to go when I was home.. So we went and stocked up on Thanksgiving ingredients this weekend. A nice market, comfortable vibe, not crazy busy at the time that we were there. One thing I have been looking for since moving here from the East Coast was GOOD maple syrup, so major plus when one of the first vendors had loads of Quebec syrup and honey. Not the biggest market I have been to, but overall pretty good. The main produce vendor there (Chongos) was very big and lots of selection and very well priced compared to other markets. A few beef and bison vendors, but I did not see a chicken vendor there. I refuse to buy supermarket chicken, so that would be good to have there! One strike against the market was the cluttered, crowded, overall unnecessary "flea market" booths out back. To go from a nice area with the food and craft vendors, to the booths of selling crap and Chinese knock off items was a downer. But it can be avoided if it's not your thing. Waste of space that could house more good vendors though! Not sure which I prefer, Crossroads or the Calgary Market, both have their own charm and pros and cons but I will go back to Crossroads any time! read more

Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Crossroads Market. It is a pretty busy place, with a number of stalls and produce markets. It is a bit of a maze navigating through the market as well - the market is a bit older, with a flea market at the back - so it is a bit confusing the first time you visit. The parking lot is also a bit of a nightmare - you're best to park across the street and walk over if you're able to. There are great deals on produce at Chongo's, and there are also a number of vendors selling gluten-free items. Definitely a place I will continue to check out! read more

Crossroads has over 150 vendors - this includes fruit & vegetable sellers, antique shops and a variety of other fun to explore booths and products. It's been in Calgary for over 20 years. (It changed locations from it's Barlow building a quite few years ago.) Last year administration tried to change to paid parking, but only briefly, so don't worry about having to pay for parking down there. The people rebelled and the paid parking idea was thrown aside! (Power to the people!) There's both an indoor and an outdoor area to this market making it enjoyable and airy to wander around in the summer, and someplace to escape and explore in the winter. read more

As a general rule, I LOVE farmers markets. They have the freshest foods, the most wonderful people, and a general air of contentment about them. Imagine my excitement when I was invited to take a trip to Crossroads after years of not being able to go. I had very fond memories of Crossroads because my family and I used to go every year to stock up for the winter. I remembered row after row of delicious produce, and stall after stall of fresh goodness. I would be lying if I told you I wasn't disappointed this time that I just went. It must have had something to do with our recent economy because the place was deserted. To add to that, all the vegetables & fruits were priced ridiculously high... like higher than your local grocery store high. After a couple hours of looking around, we ended up leaving with just a turnip and a squash... yeah, I wish I was joking. Usually we'd be leaving with at least 5-6 full cases of eggplant, tomatoes, etc etc, but not this time. My heart was a little heavy as we left because this recent visit did not do my memories of the place justice. I'm hoping it was just an 'off weekend'... either way, I haven't been back since. read more

I love the market in terms of vendors. But management not so much. And they are the reason I will never shop there again. I thought they are racist as I speak with accent. About a month ago or so I wanted to sell handmade kids clothing, I had some leftover stock left from last summer. Earlier in the year I contacted a wife and she said that the spot costs about $900 and when I talked to husband he told me $1300! I wanted to try for one weekend and he said he ok to email him and when I emailed him he did not even bothered to reply. I went to find out what is going on and his wife just told that they don't rent for one weekend. The spots her husband showed me were empty. read more

I've gone to Crossroads for many years, didn't go last year, but went yesterday. I live in Cochrane and we have a small - wonderful market. Crossroads has NO competition - every single pepper in the whole place is 2.99 /pound. In Cochrane you get 5 for $5. Farmer's markets are not price fixing. Most don't even put the price on. Give me a little farmer's market any day! So disappointing. I will spread the word! It was a long drive and not worth the gas. read more

The farmer's market side is a hit and miss here. Sometimes things are good and you can find something, other times it's too expensive or there's no produce. The flea market side is pretty consistent.... lots of crap. But hey, if crap is what you're looking for then it's the perfect place! I would recommend the food court though which is pretty much the saving grace for this place. The Turkish food stand has an amazing eggplant platter and baked goods. read more

My most super-happy favourite market in Calgary. Their lack of local veggies aside, it does have terrific spots. Be careful of the vegetables they do have. Most are neither local, nor anything short of the same stuff you get in the grocery store, just for more money. A quick stop at the small booth for a can of pop for a loonie starts the usual adventure. Onto Paolinis for a couple choice cuts of delicious pork loin. Onto the Ukrainian Fine Foods booth for awesome perogies. Say Cheese for their awesome smoked mozzarella. Any number of other booths for sausage and other great, local meat. Last, but certainly not least, the market has a comic book shop. I love that place, and spend a good chunk of time and money there. It's a great market, and easy to get to. read more

Coming to the Crossroads Market is like coming home. It's been in Calgary as long as I have (well longer) and so it's a habit that I refuse to break. We love the eclectic mix the market offers. Really something for everyone if you take the time to look. We've also been patrons for over 6 years of the Loose Moose Theatre located at the market. So this alone brings us to the market a minimum of 4 times a year. From cheese, fresh meat, sausages, baked goods, sauces, honey, twisted cafe's chimney cakes, older dvd's, reptiles (lol) and collectibles...to fresh produce...this market has it all. Plan to spend a day here because it will take that long to check it all out. And definitely try out the food court. It has a nice variety with something for everyone. This is a flea market lovers dream. read more

My good friend works here so I'm glad to come out of my way to get some local food I typically go to eat the curry but I've been into the enchiladas recently and I must say that they're my favourite. Excellent Turkish Fine Foods at the Market (eat there or take it home) AND you can buy authentic Turkish grocery items for your home. Olives, bulgur, lentils, cookies, pickles, candies, ceramic cooking containers, tea, Turkish Coffee, Olive oil, etc. They also have a wonderful selection of breads and other familiar baked goods. I find I like this Farmer's Market's more in the summer when they have additional stalls that vendors from as far as BC come to sell their seasonal product. So many choices of fresh fruits, vegetables and pies... Crossroads is not as fancy as the newer Farmer's, also on Blackfoot. I used to call it the "ghetto one" when referring to which market I was visiting. But they seemed to have cleaned it up a bit..at least the floors dont look as grubby. The layout is very odd..random stalls, and if you go the wrong direction, you'll land up in the flea market section. Being a bit neurotic, Im not a fan of how squished and cluttered it is in there, but I have braved it a few times to find some nice jewellery, The area they call a "Food Court" is also quite cramped when its busy, so be patient. Its also very much "mom and pop" looking with handmade signs, but there are a lot of tasty choices, mostly of the ethnic variety. My last visit, they had a huge tent set up selling books for a charity that cost $2 for entry. This event is held every year and has a bazillions books of all kinds...good ones too, not (just) the Harlequin Romance and Sydney Sheldon novels I expected. !$10 for 10 soft covers, how could you go wrong. Get there early because it was crazy busy. There is also a yearly Stampede Breakfast. I havent been, but I bet if they are holding it, it has to be good. read more

I really love this farmers market especially in the summer months with all the wonderful produce vendors bringing in Alberta and BC grown fruits and vegetables. Everything is much fresher and better priced than your grocery chain. Chongos also expands and brings in lots of locally grown products. My favorite vendor to buy eggs are Ray's honey stand. Their dark yolk eggs are very creamy and delicious. I can't go back after trying these amazing eggs. The lamb at Kelly's meats is also great quality. Their lamb shanks and oxtails are quite reasonable. There are lots of vendors and places for you to choose from. It's nice to take a walk around the flea market area too. There's ample parking although don't be surprised if you're circling in a Saturday afternoon. It does get quite busy here. read more

It was my first visit to Crossroad Market and it makes me wonder why I haven't visited sooner. I've been to the Blackfoot and Symons Valley Farmers Market and Crossroads excels in terms of variety of food selection and vendors. It was packed when I arrived on a Saturday around noon time but lots of cars were leaving so parking wasn't an issue. I'm already excited to return. read more

A very eclectic market with a wider variety of fruits and vegetables compared to the Calgary Farmers market. Has a more international feel to it. Check out the exotic meat stalls for bison, frog legs, alligator and goat meat. A bit too crowded for younger kids though and the walkways will be tight for a side by side double stroller. read more
