I really like Bridgeland Market. Even though it's been a few years since I lived in this community, I make an excuse to visit everytime I go to see my friends in Bridgeland. My favourite items to snag from here are the big ol' glass bottles of Santa Cruz Lemonade, Green Cuisine tofu, and kale chips for a snack when I'm too lazy for my own. I do notice the prices for some of the items here are quite a bit higher than some other retailers in Calgary, such as specialty items like the aforementioned tofu. But I digress. Another thing I love are the little things that they post on their big sign on the side of the building. And the fact that they have a "Bukowski" sandwich which is just ham on rye. Very clever you guys. Might I suggest a vegan sandwich called "The Morrissey?" If you put this on the menu I'll visit ten times more. Let me know if you need a hand with a recipe. read more

To market, to market to buy a fat Yelp... what exactly is a fat Yelp anyway? If it's something full of ridiculous awesomeness, well then Bridgeland Market fits the bill. I like that I don't have to drive all the way down 17th Ave or trek forever over to the farmer's market when I want some fresh organic veggies or a loaf of Aviv's best bread ever. Bridgeland Market's got just enough of everything that picking up items for a meal that evening should be doable. But beware! If you spend to much time loitering in the aisles and trying to figure out what you want, someone may just come ask you if there's anything you need help with.. and then do his best to give you BBQ ideas. And even worse still, if you're found near the baguettes, another of the staff could very well pounce to.. *gasp* help you out with just the right bread stick. But don't worry, he's easily chased off with the threat of a bread stick beating. If you have no need for groceries, just stick near the front and order yourself some ice cream. Always a delight seeing the friendly faces at the market. They have a great selection of staples and must haves. It always smells amazing here and it's very clean. It feels like a store right out of a movie. The staff know info about any new foods that come in. My fav is the thick chocolate milk and the mac and cheese pre made with beef. I dont live in the Bridgeland area, but have visited BM a couple times. I know its a great addition to the area, as there seems not to be much around in the way of local grocery stores, let alone one like this. I love how they focus on sourcing out/supporting as many local companies as possible, such as Spolumbo's, Spragg's and SideWalk Citizen Bakery. They carry a good variety of gluten fee/ organic/ free range ect...items, as well as some ethnic ones. They are great at updating their clients as to when their fresh product is in on Facebook, and I love how beautiful the store itself is. Stop by if your in the area!! read more

As a home cook, Bridgeland Market has introduced me to several new ingredients. Their range of unique and different culinary items has opened me up to new cookery concepts. For example, they stock some pasta sauce in a jar that is simply amazing. The second time I tried it, I added some dried mushrooms and that brought the meal to an entirely new level. They stock many standard items yet rotate new things through enough that it's an adventure each time but you don't get lost trying to find staples you need. I think they could improve with a different layout of the store, or maybe some improved lighting (especially by the deli. I feel cramped in there because it's fairly dark. Staff are typically friendly but scarce. Would be nice if they came around and instead of asking if you're finding everything alright, that they just tell you about what's new. That would be spanky. I think I may have hit the Bridgeland Market on an off-day. It sounds like they are usually a lot better, so I will have to return at some time and hopefully update my review. I came in to grab something for lunch, and decided on a sandwich made with fixings from their deli. Everything looked really high quality and delicious! I stood at the sandwich counter for a while, trying to get someone's attention. One employee came and sat down on the counter in front of me and started doing something on his cell phone. I gave him a few minutes to finish what he was doing, but didn't even get so much as a "hello". Another staff member was talking on the landline. It's a small store, and I would understand if they were busy with other customers, but I was the only one there and I felt extremely ignored. The guy on the landline got off the phone eventually and took my sandwich order. The sandwich itself was a let down. It appeared that they combined all of the condiments from ALL of the sandwiches on their list onto my sandwich. It had mustard, mayo, horseradish, vegetable spread, and olive tapinade. A few of these condiments go together, but the last three certainly didn't. And all three weren't even supposed to be on my sandwich, so it wasn't what I was expecting. The bread was extremely dry and tasted almost stale. It wasn't the best sandwich I've ever had. Oh well, it sounds like there are lots of other great products in the store. And they support other local businesses which I like. They seem to have a good philosophy, and unfortunately I probably just caught them at a bad time. Having lived in Bridgeland for four years and always wanting that quick place to grab supplies for supper or snack for a Friday night movie (7-11 just doesn't cut it)..I was quite excited to see the signs for Bridgeland Market pop up in the summer of last year. Unknowing what was to come of this new market- quietly tucked away at the far end of Bridgeland - I was intrigured to see its progression and fruition on Facebook. After opening, this market far from disappointed and on the contrary - over delivered. I was pleasantly surprised to see the vast amounts of "unique" stock they took the time to pick out for this new venture. The large selection of organic dry good, authentic italian supplies and products, locally produced products and stocked deli proved exciting to get to know and try. Most all of the fresh dairy, meats, eggs and produce is also locally sourced and fully certified organic (I have been converted to organic milk as a result of the delicious fresh organic milk they sell which is made only towns away here in Alberta. I highly suggest the choclate milk as well:). It appears that since opening, they have also started increasing their product lines and volumes of food which offers more and more choice and option each time I stop by. If looking for a quick few things while driving home after work I suggest: Spolumbos chicken cannelloni (so fresh), the organic goat cheese, Kettle Chips, organic chocolate milk, some sliced italian sausage and smoked cheddar from the deli, and don't forget the 6 pack of San Pellegrino. If reading the labels of many new products you haven't seen at the comerical chains doesn't intrigue you - then the superior service and golly attitude of the guys working there surely will!! Had a really great experience here today as a first time customer. I drive by here a lot and have never stopped in before, glad I did. Very knowledgeable staff and lots of great variety. The girl that was working knew everything and helped me pick a perfect charcuterie selection and let me try samples. They also ground my coffee beans which I thought was above and beyond. I tend to make my way to Bridgeland Market at least once a week. Let me tell you about this amazing little market that Mr. Handsome Yusif has turned into a cornerstone masterpiece. Picture it, Christmas 2014. Yusif sitting outside dressed as Santa Claus with a professional photographer and some carolers. He's offering free photos with Santa for everyone. This is just the added touch that Yusif and his amazing staff always give back to Bridgelandians. Not to mention their signage is hilarious. Now, let's talk about their products. I believe most of their products are locally sourced if not organically sourced. Everything here is usually from a smaller producer and amazing. Chocolate bars, water, drinks, fruit, pasta, guacamole, cheese... it's endless. Kamboucha? Kombucha? Whatever, you know what I mean, the tea shit that's good for you. They actually bring it in from an amazing place in Portland! Now let's talk the Made by Marcus products and microbakery. They make their own breads, baguettes, croissants, and cookies. The cookies. Can we talk about the cookies, you got a minute? Good. They are round, buttery, chewy layers of milk and white chocolatey amazingness. The cookies are so good that one time I saw a tall fella walking towards myself and my bro in law and thought "that guy is good looking." then my brother in law said "That's the guy that makes those cookies" then I fell in love with tall fellow. Tall guy, don't know you're name, probably Dylan or Joe or Jason or some shit, but you're unreal. You can cater our wedding. Don't tell my husband. Are they expensive? Yes, they're a little expensive. You usually leave with a small bag of things and you've spent 35$. But I guarantee you all those things are good for you, taste amazing, and it's a real treat. Bridgeland Market is one of my favourite things in Calgary, hands down. Come by for a fresh hand crafted espresso, or in the summer for an ice cream cone! OK, I get it now. This place is great. Not really in my neighbourhood, but i sure wish that it was! It's the perfect corner store market to walk to and pick up the essentials, but also they have an amazing deli, cheese selection and high quality organic sundries and snacks. Plus top pop popsicles and made by marcus gelato. so, yeah, pretty awesome. It's small, but has everything you could need to whip up a last minute meal or charcuterie party. The place seems to always be busy (but maybe that's because it's small, so a few people are noticed) but the staff are friendly and helpful. Bridgeland, you are so lucky! read more

Needed a few things for the upcoming week and as we were in the neighbourhood decided to do our weekly shop here. I'm tempted to hold back the 5th star because I couldn't find any crackers. I know its a small market and can only stock so much but standard saltines seem to me to be a staple item. I do like that you can get almost everything you need at this little market though and often wish I had something similar in my hood. There is good representation of local producers for bread, eggs, dairy, meat and organic veg so you can have that small footprint as a consumer. I have also found some fierce competition for an awesome London Fog when I thought the best one was at a certain independent coffee shop in Kensington. Last but not least don't forget to check out the message board and art in the little garden outside the market. Went to bridgeland market to get goodies for a picnic to celebrate an anniversary. Wish I had gotten the name of the staff member who helped me because she was incredible. I can't say enough good things about Bridgeland Market. Yousef is honestly the nicest person ever, as is the rest of his staff. There's always something fun going on, from portrait sessions to free taco tastings. They've got really interesting and inspiring stock that makes me want to cook and host, super delicious baked goods and ice cream, and I love that they show so much support for other local small businesses too. I love the ambiance of this market but I must say that the staff left something to be desired. The gentlemen at the till was surly, ignorant and a bit snobbish. He acted as if I was annoying him by simply paying for my things. I love local markets that promote local products, but my experience today left a bad taste in my mouth.
