What you look for in a bus company is to safely and efficiently get passengers from Point A to…read morePoint B. Umbrella Bus barely got our passengers from Point A to Point B, did not do so efficiently, and arguably didn't do it terribly safely. We booked Umbrella for a 54-passenger shuttle to transport wedding guests from our wedding hotel to our ceremony venue, and then from the ceremony venue to the reception venue ($1050 total). I confirmed this itinerary with their staff by email and phone several times (at least three), because they kept sending me invoices that only showed a partial itinerary, but they assured me that they had the correct itinerary written down and would read off the correct itinerary on the phone when I called. On the first trip, the bus driver got the bottom of the bus stuck on a steep hill, rendering it unable to move. Guests had to walk nearly a quarter mile from where the bus got stuck to the ceremony site. The bus was also blocking the entrance to the park where the ceremony was held, meaning that park visitors and several wedding guests who were behind it were severely delayed in getting into the park. We had a couple of guests who missed some of the wedding ceremony because the bus blocked the entrance for so long. It would've been 3.5 stars if only for this, since it wasn't 100% the driver's fault, though he should really have known what the buses he drives are able to handle. On the second trip, though, despite me confirming the destinations in the itinerary with Umbrella MULTIPLE TIMES, the driver had somehow been given the wrong destination by their dispatch, and took guests back to the hotel instead of to the wedding reception venue. My family members had to argue with the driver, who insisted that he'd been told to take everyone back to the hotel, and "I'm only doing two trips, how will people get back to the hotel?" but he eventually relented and took everyone to the reception instead, but meant that most of the guests were delayed by quite a bit in getting to the reception. This definitely wasn't the driver's fault though, and was clearly the fault of the company/dispatch. He did eventually take the guests where they needed to go, which we appreciate.

Payment terms were very reasonable. The day of went PERFECTLY! Our bus driver, Ceaser showed up 15 minutes earlier than I expected. He was very friendly and polite. Once our guest started showing up, he was very personable and helped everyone with luggage that they had. And the bus was in amazing shape. When a friend left his phone on a Phoenix bus after a school dance this past weekend, we called…read moreimmediately (within minutes of the bus departing) to ask the driver to wait or turn around. What followed was one of the most shockingly unprofessional customer service experiences we've ever encountered. Fadi Stephan, who answered the phone, told us there was nothing he could do. When we pressed, he didn't just decline to help -- he lectured us. "You're adults, you need to face the consequences of your actions," he said. At one point, he mimicked my voice. We were stunned. Any reputable transportation company has a lost item policy. The standard practice is simple: when a customer calls shortly after leaving something behind, you make a reasonable effort to help. Phoenix chose not to. What makes this especially inexplicable: after leaving our school event, the bus went directly to Disneyland (six hours away) meaning the phone would be inaccessible until Monday. We weren't asking for a miracle. We simply asked Fadi to notify the driver so the phone could be safely held by the company rather than discovered and pocketed by a future passenger. He refused, and never offered any explanation as to why. If anything, it felt like he was rooting for another passenger to pick it up. We followed up with polite emails throughout the weekend. His written responses were abrasive: "Once again for the 5th time, I will let you know once the bus is back," but even that felt kind compared to his tone over the phone, which obviously doesn't leave a paper trail in the same way as email. Phoenix has lost our business, and we will be sure to share this information with the rest of our school. Please do yourself a favor and find another bus carrier! It's not worth the headache.

However, they have a rule that you're not allowed to contact the driver directly at all. I've never been told not to contact a driver in all the services I've ever used for airport or other pick ups so this seems very odd. They gave me the driver's phone number, but sent me many admonitions never to contact him before during or after the service. I always like to make sure with drivers myself that they understand what time to pick up, that they need to wear a mask, etc., etc. So not being able to do this left me very frustrated and not sure I'd do the service again. UPDATE MGL responded that they only asked me to not contact the driver before the trip. That's not true they sent me several texts that literally say "do not contact the driver before or after the trip" and they went onto continue messaging not to bother the driver as he may be with other clients.
