FURNACE & AIR CONDITIONING - EVOLUTION HVAC LLC - James Burrell 632 4031
It troubles me greatly to have to take this to these extremes but sometimes it becomes necessary when calls and emails aren't returned when there are issues with a job that are being ignored.
The workers that did the installation were friendly, courteous and neat and were fed well. James is a nice guy but very little follow through and has convenient memory loss.
After the installation is where I encountered many problems. The facts below are a true accounting of what transpired.
**Installed furnace and A/C unit on February 18 2020.
** Shortly after installation I found the gas shutoff leaking gas as evidenced by the odor of gas in the basement following the installation. James "couldn't smell anything" but after the valve replacement, the gas odor stopped.
**2 of the 4 furnace anti vibration cushions under the unit were not supporting the furnace and not touching the furnace at all, the furnace was being supported by only 2 of the 4 cushions on opposite corners.
** I noticed a 12" channel lock pliers was being used to tighten down a 14mm nut on the new valve and it seemed excessive to me being there was only about 5 threads on the brass shaft. After they left I noticed that the nut on the valve that he was tightening was stripped and the handle was lose. I brought this up to James and he looked at it and they came back and replaced the new valve they had installed once again. I recommended to James that he furnish the installers with a small wrench set that possibly could eliminate this problem and he replied "I can't furnish every installer with wrench sets".
**The filter cabinet would not take the 20X20 filter that it was designed for without the inside upper corner being crushed as was the filter that was installed originally in the cabinet after they installed the cabinet. The cabinet is also missing the foam seal on the door to keep the return air from going around the filter instead of through it. The furnace has a banging noise when the blower is running much like a muted base drum being beat since it was installed on February 18 2020. I have brought this to the attention of James many times and still to this date a year later has not addresses this issue. James said "he didn't hear any noise" but finally admitted after many months that he heard it rarely calling me back or answering my emails asking him to call me about this issue and what is being done. I've tried sending emails to his business when he recommended this as well as phone calls that go to voice mail and James told me that the calls transfer to his cell phone at this point, as well as calls directly to his cell phone and rarely get a reply or answer. What I did get was many excuses about the problems he was having with all his phones. I have all email correspondence with James saved from the date of first contact
** The new copper return line set for the A/C was kinked and had to be replaced in part at a connection luckily before the unit was put into service or damage would have resulted.
**Humidifier was never hooked up properly when the new furnace was installed. It would start running water when the thermostat called for heat and not stop until the furnace shut off completely, (all four cycles the humidifier would run water when it should only run when the fan went on) as it was previously. I mentioned it to James and eventually they got around to installing a relay on 12/8/20 some 10 months later which should have been done when the furnace was installed.
** The furnace shakes when the blower is running, this is not a vibration which is normal when a motor is running but the entire furnace shakes and gets noticeably worse with a faster blower speed when a higher blower speed is called for in colder weather (variable speed furnace). The reduced blower speed that was finally adjusted after many calls reduces this condition a bit but is still very obvious. I asked James if we could get a factory rep to come and take a look at this being he isn't acting on or seemingly concerned about the issue and never got a reply until a year after the installation was done with a "possible" solution. James replied to me that "He has people without heat that come first" which I completely understand, but at what point do the problems that I have with the installation get some attention a year later after his labor warranty has ended? It shouldn't take a year and still counting to do this.
**Finally when James was trying to adjust the fan speed because it was on high speed and very noisy and has a bad vibration, he had the inner door off while holding the safety switch with his hand so the furnace wouldn't have to recycle and start again each time an adjustment was made. When he finally got the speed adjusted and was in the process of reinstalling the inner door while the blower was running on and cracked the door when he hit it with his hand, then denied he did it. read more
