Evolution Energy did our solar panels and battery system. One advantage to working with this company is that they offer both Tesla and Enphase systems. We went with Enphase even though it was a bit more expensive. If we had a Cybertruck then Tesla all the way because of the bidirectional charging. The other advantage is that they are also a roofing company so it was all quite seamless. We were able to combine the install with replacement of the dormer vents with flat fire-resistant ones so now we are not as concerned with fire embers. Their work was impeccable throughout and the post install service is exceptional. For instance we initially missed that the water heater was not included in the backup circuits. They sent a small crew back to take care of that at no additional cost. Several months later we realized that the wall oven which we rarely used is no longer powered. They sent someone to take care of that as well. So far the system is functioning well. I was a little surprised I found out that the production calculation (120% of last year's use) is misleading. On a sunny day, by noon our batteries are full and the power generated for the rest of the day goes to the grid and is essentially wasted here in California. When I am home I can minimize this waste by charging my electric car which covers my day to day driving as it turns out. I manage it by using the Enlighten app's live status. I suppose I could have bought more batteries but I already own extra batteries. It's in the car. read more

I had solar installed in 2011, with 14 sunpower 225 panels and a 3kW inverter that was not doing too well after 14 years. I needed a new roof, which would require the old panels to be taken down, so I figured I'd add some more panels and a powerwall. I called the company that did the original work, and figured I'd give them a try even though they had been bought and sold a few times, they offered a returning customer discount. They gave me a frustrating run-around, and the sales person didn't even seem to know their own product. I think the last straw was when he said to me, on the third phone call "we didn't install your system so we dont know what you have." He also could never give me a quote for exactly what I was asking for - remove the old system, reinstall the existing panels with new REC panels and a powerwall, eliminating the old inverter. So I went out to look for the highest rated REC installer. Alex was a breath of fresh air. I wasn't passed around from and told I'd have to schedule a phone call with an "energy consultant." Just a phone call and a quote. It was also significantly lower than the other company, who claimed they would price match but found every way to weasel out of price matching. Everything was done on-time as promised. The workers who did the removal and install were the best workers I've had at my house in a long time. They knew what they were doing, were friendly, and efficient. Alex loves to talk, and is very helpful at ensuring that you have whats best for your needs. This is a very busy time for solar installers with tax credits due to expire by end of year. They made sure to explain everything clearly and address any concerns I had. Tony and the install team did a great job on the panels, working carefully and doing all they could to pass inspections the first time around. They were transparent about any issues that came up (of which there were very few), made sure everything was up to code, and promptly cleaned up after themselves. Alex was able to work with my compressed timeline to get the project done, and he and his team answered every question that arose. There were some minor issues (we had to make a change with the number of batteries due to the city code as a result of an error measuring the small space), but overall everything went very smoothly. Looking for the right solar company was difficult as a lot of them use off-putting sales tactics. Evolution Energy on the other hand was very honest and direct from the get go. I also made sure to do my research on different products (panels, inverters, etc.) and I liked the combination of price and product they offered over other companies I had bids from. Alex was the representative I worked with the most and he was (and still is) very responsive and often calls me quickly after I reach out to walk through any questions or concerns I have. Sonny, Bruce, and the installers sent to my home were also helpful along the way. I also want to emphasize how quickly the process went. We signed the contract in January and the system was up and running the next month. The PTO (permission to turn on) did take another 2 months, but that is on the electrical company and I'm sure they have been getting hammered with the looming NEM cutoffs. All in all, the panels and system were installed neatly on our home and the app is showing we are generating as much energy as we were quoted for. These guys did a great job on my solar install. The subcontractors they use are a bit of an issue. Their foreman is... not great. He never introduced himself, showed up late, left early, and the only thing he said to me was he needed payment. I had to reach out to the sales reps I worked with to let them know the contractors should probably stop messing with the asbestos wrapped pipes on my roof and other stupid stuff. They also left a lot of debris I had to clean up including some large metal parts that fell off my roof when the winds picked up. All in all still a good experience. read more

I've called and they say "when they have time" they'll have someone come out to my home. This has been at least a couples of weeks of calling and getting " I don't know" on when they can have a tech out. The guy on the phone is nice but his customer service skills are lacking in that there is zero follow-up. I get the feeling they don't value my business because I'm not looking for an installation. But they can't even provide any info on the work they've done. After thorough research and teleconferencing with multiple solar companies we picked Evolution Energy. Evolution Energy gave us the -best value: price per wattage was the lowest -high quality equipment and 25 years warranty on product and labor -fast processing and installation We also wanted to support locally owned small businesses, they are located nearby in Downey, CA. Bruce Smith, the project manager was very knowledgeable. He addressed all our questions over the phone, modified the quotes per our request promptly, and personally did the site visit to measure our roof and inspect the electric panel to make sure that we are good to go. Best of all, we were able to get the sufficient number of panels to eliminate our electricity bill (fees and taxes excluded) at the most affordable price that fits our budget. With other companies we had to sacrifice the number of panels to get to our price point. Evolution Energy was the only company that met all our needs. Here is the timeline of our solar energy so you can know what to expect. We signed the contract with Bruce in May. We got permit approval near the end of June and solar panel installation was completed in two days. Permission to operate was granted by Southern Edison on July 15th. The delay in the PTO is due to the city of Monterey Park's stringent inspection process. There was a specific order in which the inspection had to happen. I forget which had to come first but there was a fire, building, and safety inspection. Anyway, once the PTO was granted, Bruce connected us to the online monitoring system right away and we had access on July 17th. This app, Enphase Enlighten, allows you to see how much energy your system produces. You can view the solar panel array and see the energy in kwh each individual panel produces. We are so happy with the work the Evolution Energy did and we highly recommend them to anyone who wants to go solar. They are professional, easy to work with, and very responsive. I could not be happier! I am a Realtor and have very high expectations from service providers. I had interviewed a solar salesmen that came to my door. I was very open to giving him an opportunity but as soon as he realized he couldn't close me that night, he got a bad attitude and left. I really wanted to understand the benefits of owning vs leasing and wanted to work with a highly reputable company. But I had also read and heard about a lot of issues people were having so I intended on doing my homework. A dear friend of mine works in solar up North and referred me to 3 highly regarded companies in Southern California. After interviewing all 3, all of whom were lovely, I decided to go with Evolution Energy. Bruce Smith was my rep. I made the decision to purchase rather than lease. Leasing only provides you with a locked in rate. Just a hedge against inflation. Plus the feel good element. Owning provides you with free power once you get all the tax credits, rebates and break even. In my case it's about 5.5 years. Hands down the way to go for me. In other words, my electricity will be close to free now and forever. But if I take my cost and divide it by my prior monthly bills, I will have a break even in 5.5 years. Plus, the cost of power will continue to go up but mine will continue to be free 10, 15, 25 years from now. The installation was seamless and beautiful. My panels were installed in one day. That's it! And they are gorgeous. Because of the direction that my house and roof face, they're required to be on the roof that faces the street. Not ideal. But I chose gorgeous black panels with frameless mounting, black cells and an edge trim. I'm quite proud. I was quite blown away by the process. I've read many reviews where people complain about the delays. My panels and inverter were installed as I mentioned in one day. Bruce came out and hung around for a few hours waiting for the inspector to sign off a week or so later I think. Next, it was a matter of waiting for DWP. They installed a new meter. Pretty quickly actually. Lastly, I just needed DWP to sign off. I was told 4 to 8 weeks. I think they came out in about 4 weeks. Voila! Done. Up and running. Thrilled is an understatement. I'm so incredibly appreciative of people who take pride in their work, stand behind their word and provide excellent service. I would recommend Evolution Energy and Bruce Smith all day long! We used Evolution Energy for our solar panel installation, and we are very happy we did. We did a lot of research using Energy Sage, which allowed us to compare prices with dozens of solar companies. We obviously started making our calls with the cheapest companies, thinking we would need to work our way in a little bit before we found one that we liked. Luckily for us, Evolution Energy was very close to the lowest price on the list. We talked with Bruce, who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of their products. And in just a few minutes was able to look at a satellite image of our house and give us a quote and explain the pricing and all of the ins and outs with our roof layout and location.
