I had a terrible experience with Dr. Soucie. He failed to clearly explain the risks of redoing a previous root canal and crown, yet charged over $2,000 for a multi-part procedure that ultimately failed. The infection persisted despite antibiotics, and I remained in severe pain. I had to insist on having the molar pulled. The extraction took over 2.5 hours and was extremely traumatic. It was like the doctor was jack hammering my mouth. I was then charged another $2,000 for a single tooth removal and that added trauma. Afterward, stitches and a plastic membrane caused weeks of pain, and I ended up removing the stitches myself. A month later, the plastic worked its way out of my gum. This was an expensive, painful, and poorly handled experience. Do not see this doctor if you have a previous root canal or crown that needs to be replaced. It's all about the revenue that they want to bring in. I was told payment in full was necessary even when the procedure was not completed. That should be illegal!!!!! read more

The staff is courteous, but the billing is excessive and unjustifiable. I was referred here by Twin Aspen after they had already done the full diagnosis, X-rays, and consultation -- confirming I needed a root canal and a retreatment. Despite that, Evolution Orthodontics repeated the same process and made a $495 3D scan mandatory, which is not covered by insurance and far above the Colorado average of $150-$300. On top of that, they took two more X-rays, charged a separate doctor consultation fee, and gave me a $4,000 estimate for the two root canals, which does NOT include crowns. They only do the surgery and refer you elsewhere for the rest -- meaning more time, more money, and more appointments. I deeply regret not researching ahead. If you're in pain and feel rushed, please take the time to compare pricing. This was my second time seeing Dr. Shaun Sucie for a root canal, and I seriously can't recommend him enough. The first time I was so nervous, but this time I wasn't even anxious because I know he knows exactly what he's doing. Insanely expensive and very rough. $3,000 for an extraction and bone graft. I had a horribly painful infection deep in my tooth as and bone result of an old, failed root canal. Dr. Soucie put me through a huge amount of pain before the extraction, by grinding down the 'high points' on my painful, pounding tooth without lidocaine. He was very rough with the grinding and left the neighboring crown ragged and so damaged it needed replacing! During the extraction, he never prepared me for the loudness of the surgical drills nor asked to see if I was doing ok. They just cranked the headphones up all the way. I am still deeply traumatized by the noise and the pain. My ears literally rang for three days. I am getting my implant from an oral surgeon, whom I deeply regret not going to in the first place. Dr. Soucie's assistant "presents well", but she is passive-aggressive and you don't want to cross her. Twice, she moved the chair out from under me when I tried to sit and almost made me fall. She moved overhead items into my path, then telling me to sit or stand and each time I hit my head. She even accused me of stealing an item from the dental office! I've never written a dental review but feel like I need to to make others aware. This office charged $680 for things definitely not covered by insurance. I was quoted $513 over the phone but my husband ended up paying $680 while there as they forgot to mention an additional $150 item not covered by insurance. This is not just our insurance. It's items not covered by any insurance. I had a root canal done at a difference local office here in Castle Rock where there were no such charges. My wife got a root canal from this dentist and paid around $1,000 out of pocket with insurance. She asked before she left if that was all she owed and was told that was it by the girl at checkout. That That was what our insurance didn't cover when they ran it thru. Fast forward a few months and we receive a bill for an additional $300.00 from them and they're sending us to collections. She calls the office and they say she owes more regardless of what the girl told her when she checked out. Needless to say we won't be back. I hate getting root canals...I bet you do too! Well, I had to have four...yep, four of them and my Dentist Dr Weisbard recommended Evolution Endodontics in Castle Rock! Specifically, Dr. Shaun Soucie! First, once I was in the chair they asked me what kind of music I wanted to listen to...I chose Eagles! Then he cracked a joke and numbed my gums and honestly...I had a great experience! I was done in two hours and it was tolerable! Erica at the front desk is super knowledgeable and helpful and is a very great person to deal with. Had to get a root canal procedure done and he was upfront with the procedure and cost of the root canal, which after insurance still paid $1800 out of pocket. They had me schedule another follow up appointment 2 months later to check to see if infection went away. Unfortunately it did not reduce infection and said tooth would need to be removed. They set me up with another appointment to have procedure done and told me that there wouldn't be any additional cost due to the root canal and the amount I already paid. I was ok with service so far. I went to my appointment to have the tooth removed and told me it would be an additional $800 to have it removed. The doctors view was well it was another procedure. I told him right now I won't be able to pay and would need to reschedule. I was very frustrated but made my way out to waiting room and getting ready to call my wife to talk about when I could reschedule. I then heard doctor talking to assistant around corner saying "it's a different procedure SORRY" to the assistant. It is bad enough I already paid $1800 for a procedure that didn't work and then to here him talk about it like it's no big deal. I was embarrassed and frustraTed. It is hard enough going to have dental work done and being nervous. If the original doctor told me I would be charged an additional $800 if it didn't work upfront, I would have made a different decision. Also after first procedure failed I asked how much out of pocket expense would be and they said nothing. It felt like a big scam, I never leave reviews for anything, but this wasnt right and I don't want people to go to them and feel safe and taken care off just because of the appearance, location, and facility. First: I really appreciated the upfront "worst case scenario" cost estimate that was ahead of my appointment(s). It provided me with an understanding of what to expect and ultimately it was not the worst case for me, but the honesty went a long way - As we should all know as an adult dental insurance just doesn't cover much and mine had been exhausted for the year. Frankly - the service I got it was a bargain! Why some people don't understand it's impossible to know what's in a closed box till you open it, is beyond reason! My first appointment having never been here was as usual, I was extremely nervous, anxious and afraid - I typically require and pay extra for anesthesiology / sedation for dentistry. I am very difficult to numb, but this was an emergency and had no way to schedule it ahead of time. Evolution Endodontics is the type of place once you've experienced it, you would travel across the country even the world to never let another endodontist provide your care. As a technical professional - I was amazed at how advanced they are in the tooling and technologies used here - you can tell they believe in only the latest and best systems to work efficiently with high quality outcomes. I had two root canals and each one was done differently, proving that his approach is thoughtful, strategic and he works outside the box to deliver the best possible solution. That he utilizes the best system for the job and each job is treated as its own, that its not an assembly line. I just had veneers placed, he explained it may damage one. But, he used skillful precision and I could tell he really took to the approach with sincerity and artistry - no damage to the veneer and he showed me how he tackled this difficult one. Let's be honest if you need an endodontist, things are not going great in the first place. This was not my first round with one so I feel my assessment comes from a place of experience in the chair. Dr. Soucie was the first doctor of any kind to explain exactly, in detail why people with red hair are sometimes harder to sedate, its always been a mystery making me question my own sanity - he knew before I explained this issue, I would require some extra attention in this regard. Throughout the first appointment I felt no pain of any kind, it was only my anxiety and fear from past experience causing me to overwork the arms on the chair and stress ball as I was anticipating the worst - but it never came. My second appointment - I had very little anxiety, absolutely no fear, no clinching, almost at rest - I had full trust he would take care of me and treat me with dignity, would understand my fears, would check in throughout the procedure and most of all do everything he could even if it took a little extra time to make me comfortable. I NEVER thought I would leave a dental visit feeling as I do now. Dr. Shaun Soucie - I cannot thank him and his team enough or put into words how he impacted me - it changes lives when you meet that once in a lifetime person who is truly gifted and meant to be doing what they do. Beware!!! Make sure you ask if they're in network and get a definitive answer. I asked twice if they were in network but couldn't get a clear answer mostly saying they'd check. I have Humana, a large well known insurance carrier. You'd think their office would know if they were in network. I knew I would have to pay out of pocket for the initial consult and went prepared. But after xrays/examination I was presented with a high estimate and when questioned again about insurance the answer now I got was my insurance was the lowest you can get so doesn't cover anything. Nothing was said that they were not in network. It wasn't until I paid the bill and went home that I realized I had been "taken". I did not do my due diligence and check these things myself but depended on them knowing and giving me correct answers. Again, be sure you check the financials yourself and don't depend on them. Was referred from my dentist because of tooth pain on a tooth that has a crown. Sensitive to touch & pain while eating some foods. No pain from cold or heat. He referred me to Evolution Endodontics Dr Soucie. He recommended a root canal. He said he could not see no infection, but it may not be picking up on on the 3D scan or X-ray. I told him I heard root canals fail, but he told me he had one for over 20 years. I asked is it safe to go through an existing crown, he said yes. He said I should consider the gentle wave. The GentleWave Procedure he said was effective at cleaning the root canal system, there's less chance of failure over time. So, I agreed and the same day root canal was done. After the procedure, he never followed up, but I got a email asking for a referral. A week later I call and ask if it's normal to still feel pain. Yes, I was told the pulp was sensitive and needs time. Two months go by, still pain. Went in and he took no X-rays, looked at it and it was my masster muscle causing the pain. Over 2500.00 later my tooth is the same as I went in. No, I will not be giving him a referral. When I complained of pain, he did not do the x-ray on my return trip-he stuck me on a steroid. If you go to this dentist first get a bank loan and expect repeated return visits to finish what was done with basic root canals in one visit. The rates are outrageous and not clear when checking in and on repeat visits. I was shocked when the bill hit near $5,000 and work still not done, infection of worked on area ensured i was to return several more times. Dentistry in the metro area is expensive and exploitative and this dentist epitomizes this. I have always been impressed by the fact that he spends extra time to make sure things are right, something many other docs will not do. He often spreads the procedure out over two different appointments to ensure the infection has subsided before continuing. This is something the literature supports, but costs dentists more to do it this way and yet they are reimbursed the same amount. This is very high-quality care!! I just recently (November 10th) had a root canal with Dr. Shaun Soucie with the referral from my current dentist Dr. Brandt Jones. Soucie was very professional, after doing X-rays, he went over 3 different options I could choose from for my tooth. He made the decision very easy & was informative and helpful. My procedure ended up being a little more complicated, I had an extra canal in my tooth & he had to shave my gum just slightly down so that I have room for my crown to be placed on the tooth. He made the entire procedure vey comfortable for me, he let me take a little break to relax my jaw, since it was a longer procedure. His entire staff was very kind to me & the receptionist Bridgit was helpful with all my insurance info & breaking down the way it'll be billed to both of my insurance companies & what my portion would be afterward. Dr. Soucie himself even called me the night off to check on me and make sure I was handling the pain okay & to make sure I didn't have any further questions. All in all, I feel the experience was great. I was initially super scared going into the appointment since I've never had this kind of dental work done. I've had six root canals from several different endodontists, this one was the worst experience I've ever had. I was first numbed, then when I was completely numb I was given a painkiller. Being numb, I couldn't feel that one of those pills had gotten trapped under my tongue instead of swallowed. That is until I started to feel a strange uncomfortable tingling and figured out what had happened, then after the numbness wore off I realized it had severely burned underneath my tongue, it was incredibly painful, there was bleeding with layers of skin peeling off. When I went back in for pain from lingering inflammation from the root canal itself and mentioned the burns, there was no concern or apology from anyone there. Then nearly a year later I received an additional bill saying my insurance hadn't covered everything. Seriously? Almost a year later? If I need additional root canals in the future I will be going anywhere but here. read more

After discovering I had a severe tooth infection by my Dentist, I was referred that day to Shaun Soucie, who immediately got me in. Dr. Soucie and his team immediately assessed the situation and discussed all my options with me. During his examination, he discovered that an old root-canal from 7 years ago was not completed appropriately. Dr. Soucie and his team stayed after hours to begin the work to treat the infection and started my road to recovery. I had 1 tooth extracted 12-15-16 paid $1,038 for service that day. By the 3rd day enough stitches were out, my food was getting into my sinuses. I got no followup call as promised after extraction. My insurance paid the office in full in late Feb. I went in 3-3-17 to confirm that $636.60 was owed me, which the office confirmed. The check I received 3-10-17 was for $186.60. I went in 3-13-17 to get the $450 owed me still and got it. My second appointment I waited in char for 45 minutes, the Dr. was talking to a patient. I would NOT recommend this office. POOR. Where do I start?? I grew up with parents that were not born American. I have had "basement" denstists in New York City without Novacaine. I have had teeeth ulled and fillings without education that I was able to understand when my parents couldn't either. I have always been scared of the dentist! However, Dr Soucie has been nothing short of miraculous to me. As I sat with my fists clenched waiting for pain.. he says "it 's over." I am amazed. This is long and I'm sorry...but let me just start by telling you that from my perspective, diagnostics is EVERYTHING when it comes to treating painful teeth. I have had four root canals in the past two years. Two of them were performed by a regular dentist about a year ago. One of those teeth started hurting (almost 9 months later) and when the dentist could not find the cause with their diagnostic tools (x-ray, sensitivity tests, probing), they referred me to a different endodontist who did an x-ray (that's it!) and some typical sensitivity testing on that tooth and the one behind it. They recommended RCT on the tooth behind the one I was referred for. I went to Dr. Soucie because the pain did not resolve. The technology he has coupled with his general expertise and obvious extensive training on CBCT imaging he was able to tell that they had missed a canal during the original RCT 9 months prior and I was experiencing pain from infection/inflammation/bone loss (which they can NOT see the extent of on x-rays!) He re-treated the tooth using microscopy and all the latest and greatest instrumentation/irrigants. It was expensive - more expensive than my regular dentist for sure! But I would have much rather gone to Dr. Soucie to begin with and paid 3X what I did to have the procedure done properly the first time. It was also the quickest healing I have experienced in a RCT - my tooth felt 100% better within a couple of weeks. I saw Dr. Soucie a second time for another tooth that cracked (my fault for not getting the restoration sooner) and happened to also be treated with RCT by my regular dentist about a year ago. Dr. Soucie took a 3D image and along with a crack found that they had missed a canal in that tooth the first time as well. He offered multiple treatment options and we ended up re-treating the tooth and packing it with meds to see how it responds. Dr. Soucie and his staff are fantastic. They spare no expense when it comes to your dental care - they use the best technology, the most up-to-date medicine, and a very patient-focused approach to your treatment plan. Along with a medical background, I have a lot of experience in dental care and if I could see Dr. Soucie for all of my dental needs I would. On top of his expertise he and his staff are friendly, funny, and accommodating. You can tell they really enjoy what they do. They are good communicators during procedures and repeatedly check in to see how you're doing. I will never see another practice for RCT again and my advice to anyone reading this post - please don't let your regular dentist perform root canal therapy on you (especially not on your molars) - there is a very GOOD reason for this specialty. Endodontists complete 2-3 additional years of medical training after receiving their dental degrees to achieve accreditation in this type of therapy! Dental pulp and RCT is complicated and difficult and should be left to those who have completed the necessary training for adequate understanding and approach. You wouldn't want your primary care physician performing your knee surgery, would you? (OK, maybe you would if it was zombie apocalypse and you had no choice...) Unfortunately I had to learn the hard way and hopefully this post will help some of you avoid spending hundreds of additional dollars and experiencing months of unnecessary pain.
