I had an hour and then some between clients, so I spent the time here and had lunch. It wasn't my first visit. The service here is a bit slow, which is why I'm only giving four stars, but the food is worth the wait.
The ambience is cozy and eclectic, with whimsical decor on welcoming, woody walls and posts, and a mix of table and chair settings. I only come here when I have time to burn, since, as I said earlier, the service isn't quick. However, today, there were two people manning the front counter, and I was promptly offered a menu when I approached. I ordered the Panini Antipasti, paid, was handed a buzzer shaped somewhat like a coaster with red LEDs. This is how Eve's Garden Cafe notifies you that your meal is ready for you to pick up at the counter, a system that I think beats calling out names or numbers, as many other restaurants do. I then settled in at a small table off to the side, since I was alone and the lunch crowd was lively today. I'm pleased to report that despite the high lunchtime traffic, my meal was ready in the same 15-20 minutes that I've come to consider normal at this restaurant. The table was large enough for me to open my laptop and take care of some e-mails while I waited. I don't know if Eve's Garden Cafe has its own wi-fi for patrons, but the neighboring Yoko restaurant does, and it reaches into Eve's dining room with plenty of signal strength and fine performance. It's an open wi-fi network, though, so either fire up your VPN or refrain from doing anything like banking or online purchasing.
Some might question whether the sandwich I received was truly a panini, as I'm used to a panini being pressed fairly flat by a toaster-press. My Panini Antipasti didn't appear to have been pressed, but it was most definitely toasted, and the bread was a hearty bun that I think was high-grain because of how full of flavor it was. Inside were perfectly roasted vegetables, including eggplant, peppers and mushrooms, with flavory feta cheese and pesto that was mild (good for me, because I don't care for spicy food) and tasty. It was absolutely delicious, not at all the sort of meal I'd have ever thought to make for myself at home, and well worth the wait. The panini was served with golden-brown, crispy French fries that I didn't know were included, but a welcome treat. Portion sizes here are ample, and I took half of my meal home. If you have time for a leisurely lunch or dinner, get it at Eve's, and you're sure to leave feeling well-fed and relaxed.
I have to come back here with a friend or a client to entertain, one whose idea of pizza is more than crust, sauce and cheese. I looked longingly at Eve's selection of gourmet pizzas, but even the smallest is too big for me to eat alone. read more
