I stopped in here yesterday afternoon with my husband on our way back from Ike's Pizza…read more We mostly stopped because my bladder demanded a stop, and I must admit, I wasn't expecting anything fabulous when I stopped here. Small town gas stations/stores are usually expensive and have a very limited selection. That wasn't the case here. The bathrooms were incredibly clean and huge. I love that they painted Bigfoot footprints from the door out to the restrooms. It's cute and fun. The store is awesome. They have a huge selection for being such a tiny store, and prices are really good. I love that they carry Umpqua Dairy products, milk, ice cream, and cottage cheese. If I lived closer, I'd come in for those all the time. Prices are actually really reasonable. My husband and I picked up some snacks and soda while we were there. We really didn't need anything, but I wasn't stopping to use the bathroom and not make a purchase. Employee was super welcoming and helpful. I loved that I had time to walk around the entire store to simply browse everything they had to offer, which was more than I expected them to have. But I felt welcome to do so. There was no rush, no being watched, just a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere in this store. Would I return? Oh my word, yes! I've literally driven by this store a thousand times over the years and never stopped. Which kind of irritates me that I missed out on his little gem of a store.

Getting gas here is a chore now…read more OK, so now you can pump your own gas in Oregon. I don't have a problem with that. But I DO have a problem with pumps that can take cards, but don't, with no attendants, forcing you to walk quite a ways across a lot into another building out of view of your car and wait in line. When you go to insert your card you're met with a little screen that says "Machine not currently taking cards. Please pay inside" or something like that. Even though the machine has a card reader, and I've used it before in the past under previous ownership. So OK, cool no problem. My legs aren't broken. I'll just walk inside. Now I have to wait in line at least 10 minutes behind people humming and hawing at what they want out of the deli case. Or to stare blankly at the menu as if they've never seen or heard of chicken on a stick before. I do finally get up there. I hand the kid my card. "How's it going? I'd like some gas. Fill on pump three please" He asks me how much? I say "a fill, I want to fill it up please" Then he asked me, well do you know like what dollar amount that's gonna be?. Really man? No, that's kind of what you're supposed to tell me after the car has been filled up. So they don't have the technology to put an authorization on my card, and then charge me what the total is when I'm done pumping the gas? Am I the only person that ever comes in and asks them to fill it up? Really? I say "Just give me $10" Only $10? "Yes please, thanks." (Just give me enough to get up the road to someplace that knows how gas stations are supposed to work.)

The store clerk said that they have to charge $.75 for all transactions under $3.00. I said okay, I will grab something else to add to this and left my drink with her, I told her to help the next person. I went to grab another Gatorade so that I can cover the $3.00 charge. When I got back to the counter, she told me she sold my Gatorade to another customer. So, I went back to the fridge a third time, grabbed yet another one, then she said I have to charge $.75 for any order under $10.00. Then she pointed out to me the little yellow note that was tapped to the counter with all the other little notes, explaining this. I gracefully put my card back into my wallet and left with nothing. We stopped a little further down the road, to another market in Leaburg, to purchase our refreshments. This was Saturday 08/04/2012.

They wouldn't turn on the gas, shrugged and said nothing when asking for advice on what to do. How much does it take to just be a decent human and at least help brainstorm? I can deal with the high prices. Heck, it's effectively a large ski-village mini market. If you…read morewant normal prices, go to Bend or La Pine. I can deal with the limited selection and am routinely surprised in both directions about what you can find here and what you can't (e.g., fresh pesto sauce). I'd like it better if the deli section the store was built to hold still existed (as opposed to odd lift-up glass covered sections for prepared deli type food). I can deal with the mixed quality of the produce -- some is great, some not so much, so just pay attention when you're shopping produce. What I can't deal with is the meat case that seemingly doesn't keep the meat cold enough. On multiple occasions I have bought meat from that case (e.g., fresh whole chicken or more recently hot Italian pork sausage) that, upon opening at home, I discovered had gone bad, presumably because it got too warm in that case. And that's after picking product from the very back in order to hopefully maximize refrigeration. Net: come here if you have to, but if you're in Sunriver, I'd recommend trips to Market of Choice or Whole Foods in Bend. Nothing screws up a dinner plan like opening the meat and saying, "oh no, I can't use this."
