Sweet and sour shrimp lunch special, under $7
Jenna S.

This spot is my Chinese takeout of choice in the neighborhood. It's fair priced and is not gross. In fact, Singapore Chow Mei Fun, Sweet and Sour Shrimp and General Tso's are all super tasty. As a plus you can sub veggie fried rice that has lots of vegetables. And ask for the chili oil on the side if you want to add some flavor and heat.

If I could give them zero stars I would. This has been the family go-to spot for years, but lately they've been slipping. Last time we ordered there was hair in it, but this time took the cake. My husband and I were feeling under the weather and ordered two quarts of chicken with rice, it was delicious until my husband bit down on a fingernail. He called and was very nice, and explained that we order there all the time and always love the food, and they laughed at him and said to text pictures of it (claiming it was probably a chicken bone), and you could hear her and the rest of the staff laughing in the background. She also stated that she would send new soup, and we would have to show it to the delivery person to "confirm" it was a nail and not a chicken bone.

I went to this place two times and this is the worst Chinese food I have had. The only thing that was worth eating was the french fries.

So happy we're not far from here cause I'll definitely stop in. Gives me the Chinatown feel without being in the city. They also serve roast duck which I'm a fan of and can't wait to try. Baked goods are delish. Pork buns are cold, but just throw them in the microwave when you get home, and they are sooo good. Staff is friendly and wanting to help. I'll be back for a dine in.

You enter and tables are right inside. This is probably one of the first most authentic Cantonese places I come across on the island. It is unique in a sense that it tries to accomplish so much and accommodate many populations at the same time. I can't tell you if I should call it a restaurant or cafe. For instance, right when you walk into the restaurant/cafe, you get a sense that if you want to sit down to eat and dine, you can expect services. Though, this is not typically how you'd feel if you were to walk into a Cantonese bakery. In a regular Cantonese cafe, you are not expecting services. Rather, you can buy a cup or milk tea or a Bao, and you can chill and gossip with your friends. To sum up, just know that you will get service if you are getting a meal here. The waitresses are incredibly nice and warm. In the left side of the room or straight ahead from the entrances, there are counters specifically for takeouts . I ordered 1lb roasted pork, Cheung fun, a honey tea, and a Bao. They are pricier than Manhattan and Brooklyn, however, all are incredibly delicious and authentic. I recommend it.

I was asking about reservation, they said it's not needed-the Jade Island is huge! But we called for a reservation... I was very skeptical from the start about Chinese cuisine-not my taste, but my friends repeated about old school, classic Chinese Food! At the start-yes, the place is huge! With different shape tables -from 2 to bigger for 10 and more... Surprisingly, there were still a lot of diners at that late time... I forgot Chinese food totally and opted for a safe option- Fried rice with shrimps- very tasty, not salty..huge portion-took home half of it. We ordered Tofu with veggies-crispy veggies, Bock Choi not over- or under cooked-perfect - and tofu-delicious and family size prefix for 2 -with soups/spring rolls and main-chicken... Size for 2 would definitely feed 3-5 people! Great service, very attentive; -spacious seats, nice ambience - and great prices! Would definitely go again, if my friends decide to eat there. Thank you, Jade Island staff!

This place is so nostalgic just for the decor alone, it makes me long for the good old days! This is as American as Chinese food can get, so if you're looking for authentic Chinese food, you need to go elsewhere. This place has big portions, great service, and caters to a more American dining experience with big tables for parties or even reunions. Non-negotiable items I have to get every time I'm here: - egg rolls - big and crispy - wonton egg drop mixed - the pieces of pork are HUGE - orange chicken - perfect white chicken meat every time! - chicken and broccoli - tried and true We usually come around 5PM on a Saturday to beat the rush and it works out perfectly that we don't need to make any reservations.
