Himalayan Kitchen is the best restaurant! So much so that my husband chose it for his birthday meal. Not only is the atmosphere welcoming and the food divine, the staff - especially Pandee - is wonderful, too! Utah's got some of the amazing Indian food! My colleague and I stopped by for dinner. Immediately, we were hit with the aroma of spices as we walked in. The ambiance was decent and the waitstaff was both friendly and attentive, and we didn't need to wait too long before receiving our dinner. We split an order of kukhura ko soup, which was absolutely spectacular, and some garlic naan bread, which was wonderfully tasty, and some vegetable Himalayan momos, which were alright and rather interesting but yet not especially memorable unlike the amazing soup. Food: the food taste is good and flavorful but quantity for price/value is terrible. $18 Prawn coconut curry has 4 pieces of shrimp & a ton of soup gravy. $5 for 1 poori before you used to get 2 pieces or at least you do at the SLC location. Not sure if it's inflation or they are just being very stingy. But I was definitely hungry after. For $25 that should not be the case. We just had a shrimp dish in Moab, UT for the same price, same size shrimp, 7-8 pieces. The veggie sample platter for $10 had 1 samosa, 3 tiny onion fritters size of a quarter & a bunch of sliced red onion crumbs. A platter should hold enough to share the variety. It was very mediocre. Service: the staff was in such a rush that they didn't even listen 1/2 the time. We had to ask for refills each every time 3x & flag down. Ambience: comfortable booths, standard Indian restaurant. I ordered online and it said 50 minutes but it was more like 30. I was stuck at gymnastics so I had to wait the full 50 and the food was still warm! The guy who handed me my food was cheerful. I liked his energy. Everything in my pic is gluten-free! The samosa was too spicy for me even though it didn't have a chili pepper next to it on the menu. Everything else was good though. Review for the lunch buffet: Was looking for a Indian Lunch Buffet, and Himalayan Kitchen was advertising that they had reopened their lunch buffet so my wife and I sent to try it out. We arrived early, around 11:15 and no one else was there, but we were greeted kindly by staff who showed us to a table, and then the restaurant manager said hi to us and showed us around the buffet explaining the dishes and layout. There was a pretty good selection - which he explained was all mild, but there were additional sauces at the end that we could use to add spice if needed. The food was amazing. So good. Of the twelve or so items that were available my favorites were: * Tandoori Chicken: very flavorful, and very tender and juicy. I love tandoori, but usually it comes out somewhat dry, but this was amazing. * Butter Chicken: an Indian staple, and they did great. Great with their rice and Naan bread. * Mango Pudding: I never had this before at an Indian restaurant, but it was so tasty. I was impressed with the attentiveness and service of the staff - they were all very friendly, and they made sure my water was topped off at all times. For two people, it came out to about $40 after tip - a little pricy, but the food was amazing, and it was all you can eat. This is my favorite Indian restaurant in the Salt Lake Valley. I moved back to Salt Lake from the Bay Area four years ago and have been searching for Indian food as good as the Indian food available in Silicon Valley, which has a huge Indian immigrant population and thus very good Indian food. This is very close! The coconut curry is perhaps too sweet for some people's taste but I love it, especially when eaten alongside something more savory and spicy like the Aloo Mattar. You can order things mild, medium, or hot. Sadly I have found the spice levels are not consistent, so sometimes when I order something "medium" it's spicy as hell. But still it's worth it.
