Columbian Association of Sierra Vista - Lower Hall: Army Retirement Party

Columbian Association of Sierra Vista

I wanted something fancier than a backyard barbecue but more casual than a formal banquet, and after searching all over town, calculating catering costs vs. space rentals, Knights of Columbus came through! We rented the lower hall and were told we could decorate as we pleased, they simply asked that we not drill holes in their walls (because some idiot actually did that). Chef Marc Molinari always made time for me during the planning stages and was incredibly accommodating with the menu. So accommodating that, upon request, he whipped up a Yakisoba dish that my husband remembered fondly from his basic training days. They offered a variety of dining options: linens, booze, bartender, servers, buffet step up or sit down table service, all the while remaining mindful of my budget. It was a complete relief to have everything I needed available on site, and I honestly can't think of another venue in Sierra Vista that could have provided all the same services for roughly 1500k. It was perfect!

On 1/28/26, I booked 9 holes through GolfNow and paid $20.62 when I was prompted to use the "Check In" feature. When I get to the course, I'm told their system is showing I still need to pay. I show a screenshot from GolfNow and my credit card transactions from the credit card app showing that I've already paid. It didn't matter. I was told that the charge was only pending and I would not be charged for the transaction through GolfNow. Instead of arguing, I paid $20.62 in the pro shop. Sure enough, I ended up being charged twice for the same round. Flash forward to 4/10/28, I paid $20.62 via the GolfNow "Check In' feature prior to leaving for the course. I get to the course and I'm told their system is not showing that I've paid; moreover, I wouldn't be allowed to play anyway because there was a golf tournament about to start. Again, I show that I've already paid for the round. I'm told by the manager there is a known communication/payment issue when patrons book 9 holes through GolfNow and I need to resolve through GolfNow. I understand that every system is not perfect; however, it begs the question, "If the course management is aware there is a problem, why is it the customer's issue to be resolved with GolfNow? Why isn't someone (the manager, the IT department ...) working to resolve a known issue? Also, if tee times are not available on a given day or time, why doesn't course management ensure those times are not advertised on GolfNow?

Only to find out that this link is a fraud and it is not the Candlewood Suites on base. I called and explained my situation to only be told that their was nothing they could do and they would not refund my money. I sent them screen shots of the link and how it's misleading, but they wouldn't even connect me to a manager when I requested to talk with one. Instead, they just gave me a corporate number to call. And the corporate people weren't much help either. They said I would have to call the hotel again because they would have to issue the refund. Anyhow, I had to file a dispute with my credit card company to get my money back. After calling the Candlewood Suites on base, (the one I was actually trying to stay at in the first place) the people there even couldn't believe the misleading mistake the company had made. However, they did a fantastic job getting us a room and making our stay amazing. Long story short, this hotel is not Military friendly, very misleading and in my opinion, they had horrible customer service.

Listen yelpers, ignore what the old negative reviews say for this hotel because it is definitely not that place! I stayed here with a group so I was able to see multiple rooms within the hotel. I was quite impressed with everything and was extremely satisfied with my experience. From the outside it may appear simple, especially being adjacent to its sister hotel, Holiday Inn Express, but inside the Candlewood Suites you get so much more! Read on, then have a look at my photos and see for yourself! ROOMS: All of the rooms are oversized suites with a very large amount of floor space so you don't need to navigate around furniture or squeeze against a wall to move around. The suites are extremely clean and comfortable, laid out well, and have very clean carpets in the living area. The suite smelled fresh and every amenity you would need for any length of stay is included. The furniture and décor is modern and each suite has a full kitchen, oversized bathroom, 32" HD TV with DVD player, work desk/dining table, clothing drawers, reclining lounge chair, a king or two queen beds, bedside night stands, and a full closet with clothes hangers, an iron, ironing board, and laundry basket. Laundry service is also available. The beds and linins are soft, premium quality, and very comfortable, with an assortment of comfortable pillows. I slept very good! KITCHEN: The kitchen has everything you would need to prepare and cook your meals within your suite. It is modern and updated with spacious granite counter tops and a nice hardwood floor. It includes a full size refrigerator and freezer with icemaker, two-burner electric stove, microwave oven, dishwasher, double sink with garbage disposal, toaster, a coffee maker, pots/pans, food storage containers, dishes, utensils, paper towels, and plenty of cabinet and drawer space for your grocery items. BATHROOM: The bathroom is very large with a granite countertop sink, tile floor, and shower tub with curved curtain bar for extra shower space. It was one of the cleanest bathrooms I have seen in a hotel. Shampoo, body soap, and a facial bar are provided. There is a variety of premium quality large bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, a floor mat, and even a shoe shine towel. Each bathroom has a hair drier and there are cabinets and drawers under the sink for additional storage. FOOD/BEVERAGE/TOILETRIES: The hotel offers a large variety of food, snacks, and beverages in a room called the Candlewood Cupboard. All of the items are reasonably priced for purchase on the honor system. There are frozen food items to cook in your room as well as miscellaneous toiletries and travel items. Items are available 24 hours a day and you can drop your payment into a box or fill out a card and bill to your room. Coffee and tea is complementary. AMENITIES: The pool area has a covered gazebo, tables, chairs, and barbeques. The pool is heated and the Jacuzzi is hot. There is a gym that offers a variety of modern equipment including treadmills, a bike machine, a cable weight machine, exercise balls, foam rollers, and floor mats, as well as towels and water. A laundry room is adjacent to the gym so you can workout while you do your laundry! There are both top-loading and front loading washers and driers, all free of charge! There is a complementary business center with computer, printer, and fax machine. Additional complementary items can be checked out during your stay including a crock pot, rice cooker, pizza oven, blender, toaster oven, waffle maker, electric griddle, humidifier, neck massager, board games, pool toys, and a large selection of movies. LOCATION: The hotel is located in a nice area with many great restaurants and shops nearby. A gas station, convenience store, and an IHOP restaurant are in the same parking lot of the hotel. The parking area is well lit, spacious, and feels safe and secure. You could easily maneuver and park an RV or trailer in the lot. A shopping mall and movie theater are an easy walking distance away. STAFF: The hotel staff is amazing and they always greet you upon every arrival and departure from the property. Housekeeping service is provided on a weekly basis, although additional service can be requested anytime. The staff is quick to respond and accommodate any request immediately to the best of their ability. The manager, Norma Jean, is very friendly and the front desk staff, Ray, Adario, Maria, and Brenda are all great. Ray especially went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect for my group's stay. Thank you Ray! Overall, the Candlewood Suites in Sierra Vista is amazing. It is so much more than a hotel, it is truly is a home away from home with staff that welcomes you and treats you like family. I recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the area. You will not be disappointed!

Because of its seedy past, I had avoided this place for 15 years. And then the Sorry Gulch became the Horned Toad and cleaned up its act. I finally stopped by yesterday afternoon, a Friday, when I read the reviews here mentioning craft beer on tap. I had to check this out. I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the dark lighting reminds you that you are in a bar, but there are now various sections within the space for a variety of happenings: dancing, listening to live music, shooting pool, sitting on couches by a fire place, sitting at tables with friends, or sitting at the bar. Seats and tables are spread apart to comply with the 6' distancing. I sat at the bar with my friend and had a variety of Arizona craft beers. It was an off hour and quiet enough for conversation without yelling. I'm sure this place can get loud and crowded late on a Friday or Saturday night. Happy Hours are 3-6pm every day when the tap beers are $5 and there are IPAs, blondes, pale ales, stouts to choose from. The beers are constantly changing. I had a beer brat for $5 to stave off my hunger and got to talk to the friendly managers, Miles and Debbie, who both were very attentive to my friend and me. The outdoor patio is also dog friendly as long as the dog is nice, is leashed, and refrains from drinking alcohol. I will be back!

The reason for one star: they ruined our sand ceremony keepsake. Once the reception started our gifts, cards and sand kit was placed inside. Once the party was over they lock up. Understandable it's someone's home. That's when I realized our sand kit with our sand keepsake was locked inside. I asked if we can go grab it and they refused. Ok again I understand that it's someone's house but none of the staff or anyone working there offered to go back inside and grab it. I asked when can we get it and They said Monday! Wedding was on a Saturday and We're from Phoenix so it's a bit of a drive. So we drive back to the mansion to pick it up and they left the box on the porch. I grab it and opened it up and they had turned the box upside down so the sand was falling out and it got all mixed up! Now every time I look at our keepsake I'm reminded of how terrible they were to us and how they had no consideration for our belongings. Just throw it outside on the porch. Unfortunately I do not recommend this place. Pic below shows the front and the back.
