Me and my fiancé decided to try this place out for our anniversary dinner and we were blown away! The food was exceptional, I ordered the salmon Mac and cheese and she got the mussels. Both of us would make the trip back to Bisbee just to eat this again! The chef here certainly knows how to create delicious meals with perfectly balanced flavors. Both of us got a cocktail as well and the bar tender smashed it, they were delicious. We ended the dinner with a crème brûlée and it was a perfect cap to the meal. Some extra surprises we got were the complimentary salad they serve you to get the meal started and a palate cleanser before your main dish of a gelato. Also an incredible, relaxing live musician upstairs played during the meal. Someone at our hotel recommended Cafe Roka and described it as some of the best food they've ever had... and they were right! We called to make a reservation- if stairs are challenging choose the first floor (more accessible but louder). We were seated on the 3rd floor and it was perfect. Much more quiet and had a musician playing the guitar! Our Server was Laurel and she explained the daily specials and answered questions about the menu. We ordered the sampler which came with artichokes wrapped in bacon, dates and red peppers stuffed with cream cheese. I could have eaten like five more samplers because they were that good. For dinner, I order the Penne pasta with spicy sausage. My husband ordered the lamb meatballs, which came with couscous and chickpeas in a very mild curry sauce, which was perfect even for me. I don't need lamb and I'm not big on curry and I thought his dish was delicious. We had the creme brule for dessert and that was great as well. For drinks I ordered a Matador Rose (tequila, rose, tamarind and grapefruitz) and hubby had the Excalibur (Bourbon, blackberry, bitters). First off, I want to mention the excellent service. From the host at the door to our server -- who we later discovered will soon be the sous chef -- everyone was fantastic. We arrived just under the wire as the last table seated for the evening and were fully prepared to be turned away, but the hostess kindly welcomed us in. Our server was warm, attentive, and extremely knowledgeable about both the food and its preparation. As the evening went on, we learned that this is a family-run restaurant, which only added to the charm and warmth of the experience. I ordered the mussels, one of my favorite dishes, while my girlfriend had the artichoke and mushroom lasagna. For dessert we shared the crème brûlée and a caramel nut tart with mascarpone. Both of us have traveled extensively, eaten at many excellent restaurants around the world, and this was genuinely one of the better meals we've had. Absolutely loved everything we ate here! They are great about food labels for allergies and have some fun food concepts to try. I don't know what all that copper mining was for when Cafe Roka is clearly the most valuable gem in Bisbee. My first trip here was when I was in second grade and I don't think I ate a single thing, truly pearls cast before swine. Thankfully, my palate has matured in the past 30 years and I was able to enjoy an impeccable meal here upon my return. We started with the bread and trio of dips as well as the stuffed dates. The dates were perfect little bites of sweet and savory goodness. I also tried the stuffed peppers off the appetizer sampler which someone else ordered as an entree, very tasty. My aunt said she would have paid any price for a steak, but it wasn't available that day. Not a problem though, I chose the vegetable lasagna which was absolutely perfect. Servers were gracious and attentive even though the restaurant was packed. My only wish is that Cafe Roka was in my hometown instead of across the country, I would gladly return for every birthday and special occasion in the foreseeable future. read more

Wow, was this place incredible. They took us without reservation. All four in our party were dressed in tees, jeans, and tennis skirt. It was quickly apparent that we were under dressed for such a nice restaurant. My mom said they had a dress code and they encouraged reservations. We were taken up to the third floor and given a seat right along their windows. It was a great spot. Ms. Thayer was our waitress, and she saw to our every need. We ordered the bread and spreads, delicious. We got a side salad with a Dijon style dressing. We all ordered our food which didn't take too long to arrive. There are already so many good food pics reviewed, but I've included a few more. I had the filet mignon, and it came medium as requested, with a savory gravy. Cafe Roka offers an upscale environment, upmarket prices, but-in my experience-downmarket service. We made reservations weeks in advance of our visit to Bisbee knowing it would be on a busy Saturday evening following the annual pride parade and subsequent festivities. We intentionally arrived at the restaurant early for our reservation for the same reason and waited quite a while to be seated. No issues there given we arrived early and the restaurant was busy. When we were finally seated, however, we found ourselves upstairs next to a "musician" who seemed to be randomly picking and strumming on an overly amplified guitar. (Coincidentially, two of my dinner guests were classically trained pianists, one with a degree in music performance, and they were shocked by how bad the musician was.) The music was, to say the least, bad but the true problem was the volume. It was painfully loud and my party could not hear ourselves think let alone speak to each other. We alerted the hostess who seated us, but she didn't seem to know what to do. Admittedly, she was young and appeared to be overwhelmed. She also appeared to have a bit of an attitude problem, but that's beside the point. After a few minutes, we decided we could not stand the overwhelming din, so we made our way to the exit. By coincidence, we noticed a table open up right by the exit and asked the hostess if she could reseat us there because it was quieter. She refused our request but, with her bad attitude fueling her tone, let us know she'd reseat us but only after an additional wait of 30-45 minutes. When we asked to speak with a manager, she refused that request as well. So, we left and found another restaurant. By some miracle we were seated right away even though the restaurant was similarly busy. And the staff couldn't have been kinder or the food more delicious. read more

We were upstairs and near live jazz style music which was wonderful to listen to while we ate. We ordered a few appetizers, dates, stuffed peppers, and a tart all were fabulous. Most of the party had the sea food dinner and to say it was delicious would feel like an understatement. The sea bass was fresh and cooked to perfection along with the lobster ravioli's and prawns. This is a MUST try when visiting Bisbee! The restaurant appears very small from the exterior, but has 3 levels with plenty of seating. We were sat on the 3rd floor right by the windows, providing a great view of Main St below. There was live music, which was a perfect addition to the already tasteful dim lighting ambiance. Our server provided us recommendations, and was attentive but not over the top to where we could still enjoy our meal without frequent interruptions. My husband ordered the filet mignon (on special) which was paired with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. The filet was cooked to perfection, and the veggies were seasoned tastefully. I opted for the Italian sausage penne pasta and it was such an amazing combo of flavors-- and a healthy portion size for the price point! When we shared with friends we were headed to check out Bisbee, this restaurant was highly recommended. When we checked into our hotel, The Carrick, we asked them about Cafe Roka. They enthusiastically agreed that it was a great restaurant. They proceeded to pick up the phone and make a reservation on our behalf. We checked in with the receptionist and we were quickly seated. The servers all support each other, which is nice. Everyone one of them were very nice and provided great customer service. We started with the salad which had a very delicious dressing on it. I could have been happy with just salad and bread! Next, our server brought out a refreshing lemon sorbet to clean out pallet. Loved it! Don order the short rib dinner. When the ribs came out, he touched them with his fork and they fell apart. There were tender and delicious! He proclaimed this dish to be is favorite short rib preparation. I ordered the special which was wonderful sauted vegetables on top of steak on top of raviolis with a great sauce. I loved the variety and depth of flavors. The food is high quality and the service is fine. When we made our reservation we requested downstairs seating. My sister-in-law would not have wanted to walk up the stairs to the mezzanine. When you sit downstairs you get to enjoy a high ceiling. I had lamb. My husband had the flank steak special. My sister-in-law had short ribs. We shared dessert. Everything was excellent. Cafe Roka remains a true dining experience in Bisbee. Not only is the food superb but the service is also always excellent. When we got to the restaurant this time it was obviously very busy but our server, Laurel, did an excellent job of pacing our meal and being attentive to our needs. From a drinks perspective both the Persephone and the Excalibur were excellent drinks. They both felt like unique combinations of flavour that worked really well. For food, everything was delicious. We started with an appetizer sampler that consisted of stuffed piquillo peppers, bacon & gorgonzola dates, and prosciutto wrapped artichoke. All 3 of these were delicious. We also had a corn and hatch chili tart that was also extremely tasty. For mains we had the roasted duck (which my wife commented was "divine") and the mushroom & artichoke lasagna. I can honestly say that the lasagna is one of the best I have ever had. Finally for dessert we were recommended the flourless chocolate cake which was absolutely a hit. I simply don't even know where to start! Cafe Roka was such an incredible dining experience overall. Lets start with the food - indescribably delicious and clearly curated by a highly educated chef. The tablescape was set up beautifully and was fully outfitted with dinnerware and glassware as soon as we were seated. We had several rounds of appetizers that were a big hit for all of our dinner guests. The proscuitto artichokes and medjool dates were to die for. My personal favorite, however, was the tribeca Baguette with Chimichurri, Roasted Red Pepper Pesto, and Hummus spreads. Amazing and diverse and definitely beats a traditional bread basket. Our table ordered various entrees that I heard nothing but top tier reviews for. I ordered the filet, which was cooked perfectly and so tender I didn't need a steak knife once to enjoy it. The meals tasted like fine dining, but there was no shirking on portion sizes like you may experience in other high end restaurants. I was absolutely famished by the time we arrived for our reservation and I still had leftovers to take home! Honorable mention to the drink service as well - so fast, so delicious! I'm something of a martini snob and my dirty gin martini came out ice cold with the perfect salty brine. I usually can't say great things about the martinis I get in restaurants, but the one that Cafe Roka crafted has left me with even higher standards. Next, the service. I cannot find the words to do justice to the attention to detail and efficiency of the wait staff at Cafe Roka. Our servers were on top of everything and frequently checked in with us to make sure we were all set. They diligently cleared plates and checked on our drinks between courses, despite being clearly very busy. They were kind and respectful and went well out of their way to make sure we had a fabulous dinner. Finally, a personal note about my unique experience. I was not planning to dine here originally, but the head chef and owner, Chef Rod, truly saved my day. I got married in Tombstone, AZ earlier that day and we planned to have a small family dinner at another venue in Bisbee (the 1902 Room at the Copper Queen Hotel). The originally planned venue completely bailed on us for absolutely no clear reason at the 11th hour, leaving my post-wedding plans in shambles. After some quick research, my family discovered this wonderful restaurant in the same area. We reached out and the staff was immediately accomodating to us in our frantic crisis management. As a matter of fact, the owner himself personally coordinated with us and quickly made us a reservation. Not only that, but he took time out of his very busy schedule to carefully plan a menu for our group of 17. Mind you this was less than a week before our wedding date, and this restaurant is very busy (for obvious reasons!). Chef Rod really made me and my family feel like we mattered and eased my mind when our plans had fallen apart. After speaking with him, I educated myself on his background and its worth taking a look at the Cafe Roka website. He has poured his heart and soul into this establishment and it shows. I cannot thank him enough for his compassion and professionalism. Surely with a restaurant of this high caliber, he could have easily dismissed our business with the promise of just as much for a Thursday evening. But he didn't and he truly made our experience a wonderful one. In hindsight, I am so grateful for the wild change of plans I had to endure because I am certain our evening would not have been nearly as special if we did not celebrate with dinner at Cafe Roka. Apps consisted of the dates, piquillo peppers, hatch chili tart, and the salmon flatbread. Nothing but yum on all 4. Entree was the special seafood trio which was mouth watering. I had pretty high expectations for this place based on the ratings, but I should have known that I was in a small town in Arizona so I should not expect James Beard quality food. The artichokes were braised and a bit mushy and I was more expecting grilled and crispy. The salad was good and the sorbet mid meal as a palette cleanser is a nice touch. The chicken was pretty good and was large enough to feed a family. The nut tart was definitely the best part of the meal. Highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Bisbee and be sure to make reservations if you are there on a Friday or Saturday night.
