If you are familiar with the Mt Pocono to Stroudsburg area then you know there are very few options…read morefor firearm/outdoor related gear. So most of us are pretty much stuck shopping at Dunkelbergers. There are some pros and cons which I'll list below. PROS: 1. They have a pretty great inventory of firearms, and what they might not have on hand they're always willing to order it for you. 2. They have a pretty decent reloading inventory. Which is great if your into that because otherwise your stuck pretty much to only shopping online or trying your luck at gun shows. So for things like powder, primers, and various miscellaneous smalls they're pretty good. 3. It looks like they also have an extensive selection of outdoor wear and various gear for different outdoor activities. 4. The sales staff is fairly knowledgable about the items that they have in stock, and are friendly and helpful. CONS: 1. Their ammo prices are more expensive than even Walmart. And I mean direct apples to apples comparisons. For instance a 100 pack of 165grain 40s&w Winchester White Box is like $38 plus tax at Walmart; at dunkelbergers it's like $45-47 plus tax. 2. While the sales staff seem pleasant enough to deal with, management seems like a different story. For instance a manager was helping my father pick out a new AR-15; at the time I just moved up to PA from NY and had not had the chance to get my PA license yet. My father however was already a PA resident. Anyway so my father was looking for a rifle and I came along to help him pick one out, now my father has a thick accent so he's a little embarrassed to speak to people so I was doing most of the talking with the sales manager. After my father settled on a rifle he was ready to pay for it but then the manager decided he didn't want to sell it to him because I was with him and a NY resident and since I did most of the talking he was under the impression the rifle was now somehow for me, even though we explicitly told him from the beginning it was for my father so we just went down the road to Walmart and ended up purchasing one there. It was funny actually because the guy did all the sales work and then lost the sale to Walmart. Another issue with management here is that you could find their store hours in ten different places online and posted at their physical location, and you would get ten different results. Which sucks because on at least 5 different occasions I would drive there, which is about 45 minutes for me, only to show up to a closed store, no announcements about closing earlier or anything, just closed. It is one of the most frustrating things in the world, to kill half a day to just show up to a closed store. At least let your customers know your planning on closing earlier. How hard is that? It almost makes me not want to come back; unfortunately we're stuck with them as the only option, and they probably know it and just don't care. 3. While their reloading inventory is ok, I just wish it wasn't so RCBS heavy, and they had more stuff from Hornady, Lyman, Lee, etc. For instance they primarily only have RCBS dies; once in a while you might see a random Lee die and scratch your head wondering where the hell it came from and why only 1 die, lol! Please get more from other manufacturers I would like to spend my money and get instant gratification rather than waiting for an online order to ship to my house. Plus a lot of times there might be a press emergency and you need a new die or press part and it would be nice to be able to find it here. So the 3 stars are there primarily for their inventory and some of the friendly sales staff. I wish that management actually cared about their customers though, because there is potential for 5 stars. If I was the owner I would get on it.

My Son and I do business at Shakey's gunshop and have always had good results. They are the only…read moreFNH dealer in the area. Their prices are cheaper than Cabelas, and are knowledgeable about the fire arms they sell.. I would look for the fire arm at Cabelas and then drive 10 minutes to Shakeys to get a better deal. Poor customer service. Overpriced junk. Shady business practices hiding behind "all sales final"…read moreprinted on their receipts. I won some store credit from a local fire department raffle, opted to use that towards AR parts for a build. Purchased 9 items around 780 bucks. 680 store credit - 103 credit card. 1st issue, was sold two stocks - one priced at 35 and one 25 written on the plastic bag. When I got home I saw them both rang up at $45. On me I guess for not reading every digit of the receipt as they hand-typed it in. I assumed they would have honorable practices. My fault there. Was also sold a set of 45 degree mount pop up sights that I was told "glow" - turns out not at night. "They're fiber optic, they glow during the day" is what I was told on the phone when I called about these issues and spoke to Josh, the manager. "All sales final" is what I was reminded of. The young man working that day that brought the sights over to me in the corner of the store and told me they're nice pop up sights that glow, maybe didn't mean harm by it. So I got them on the premise they glow, and got home to test them at night to find out they don't. I was misled. Josh didn't care on the call. He offered to buy the sights back at 66% of what I paid for them, and since I live nearly 4 hours away I offered to mail them, accepting the 33% defeat to their shady business. He denied that and said it had to be in person. This would cost me more than that in gas round trip. He then hung up on the phone after saying "I'm never gonna make you happy" as if he was trying. I guess I was just hoping when I called, that they would be decent about it and give me an even swap for sights that actually glow or refund it. Turns out the only honor they have is to their "all sales final" slogan. Shop elsewhere. These guys don't care about you or your build. They want your money so eagerly they're willing to be shady to get it. Every online business I've ever worked with, dealt with a return or other issue with, has been far better to deal with than this shop. Ugly stuff here stay away.

At this point I have been to several other stores so feel more comfortable reviewing this one. All of the staff here were friendly and welcoming to me as a beginner on a budget. Was happy to see some diversity in the staff; definitely made me more comfortable as a young Asian woman. For the record I have felt welcome in every gun store I've been in thus far. I appreciate how honest the gentleman who helped me was. He actually recommended I try some guns out at Relic Firing Line before committing to buying anything at this shop. He seemed genuinely interested in making sure I got the right thing for my needs. The prices were not the best compared to what I saw elsewhere online but the location and service were good so paying some extra was worth it to me at the time. I will definitely return. Based on the reviews it seems other people had poor experiences here, which is unfortunate. I had a good experience with all staff there. They accepted my credit card, despite what another review said.

I'm sure customers are not pleased after shopping for a while, and then finding this out. I doubt people carry hundreds of dollars cash when buying the pricier items, like rifles, etc. There should be a big note on their website, and on the front door. The sign at the sales desk was drawn in ballpoint pen, so not prominent unless you are up close. Not going back.
