I'm so glad we made the trip to check this place out. It's amazing. The staff is very well educated and willing to share their knowledge with visitors. The woman who started the sanctuary is so passionate about environment stewardship and she is great with kids. Interacting with the butterflies in the flight room is quite the experience. Put this place on your road trip bucket list

Highly recommended - my 5 year old looooved this!! We spent a great afternoon here (about 3 hours) learning about butterflies and frogs. The highlight was definitely the butterfly room where butterflies land on you. We definitely spent at least an hour in that room. There are art projects and puzzles and a short movie. We will definitely be back for the butterfly room!

Awesome experience! We got to go in a room with butterflies and feed them. The owner is great! She is very knowledgable and passionate about butterflies. You watch a short video and then she will do a presentation about the butterflies which was very educational but fun! I went with my family(just adults) but it looked like a great place to take your children with crafts and puzzles in the one room. We got milk weed seeds to plant in our garden for the butterflies and my mom even bought two caterpillars for our home so we can release the butterflies at our house when they are ready. I honestly was so surprised about all the info I learned from going to this place. If I am ever in the area again I would definitely go back.

Cool little spot to stop if your in the area. They have a room where the butterflies roam around and even land on you. My kid loved it.

They have a room with frogs from around the world, a room full of butterflies and a cool looking water creature called axolotl.

All that for a Philly sticker for our van. I wasn't comfortable leaving the store facing forward, fearing that I would tip too much, so I left backward. The door is just wide enough to accommodate my chair, barely. I hit the doorframe because I couldn't line it up exactly. Since I was driving in reverse. I imagine this entrance would be a huge obstacle for anyone using a manual chair. We walked for blocks without finding an open souvenir shop, so we made the best of it. At least they had at least half a dozen stickers to choose from. Most of your basic tourist collectibles are available: shotglasses, postcards, magnets. It's a small shop, but I bet they have what you want to proclaim your love of Philadelphia.

My friend and I were the 2nd and 3rd person in the store, yet the Asian woman at the register did not greet us when we came in. We walked around the store probably three times trying to find a souvenir for my friend to buy her boyfriend (as she flew in from Orlando). A few of their items were cute, but I didn't see much that I liked. The t-shirts were cheap which was good, but there was not much variety. My friend also said hello to the cashier as she walked up to pay for the t-shirt she selected and the cashier didn't even say anything back to her. The woman was nice towards the end (I guess since she got a sale), but we much preferred the souvenir selection at Five Below four blocks away...

In this store you will find, jewelry, knitted items, incense, essential oils, candles, trinkets, decor, wood carvings, dream catchers, etc. The owner has been traveling the world for over 20 plus years and brings back many of these items to sell. She has established many coops in these countries and donates part of the profits. I was told this by the kind gentleman volunteer who was manning the store for her. There are many interesting items you can buy for yourself or give as inexpensive gifts. The prices here aren't too bad. There is a minimum of $10 for c.c. purchase. This store is hard to find as is tucked away in an alley on spring street. Even if not purchasing anything it's also a cool store to just to poke around.

Very small shop, but packed with all kinds of amazing handcrafted jewelry, hippie-esque clothing and handbags, incense and spiritual items (i don't know how else to describe it!). In school, we were always annoyed at there "only 2 people under 18 allowed in at once" rule, but now as an adult, I see why. i honestly think this place helped me shape my whole "look" (if you can call it that) -- after buying numerous poison rings, boxes of Nag Champa, and hand woven purses there, i credit them for making me the pseudo-hippie i am today :) and while you're there, go 2 doors down to Chucks for some killer wings :) can't miss!

Tom has quite a few tour options...something for most interests and levels of physical ability. He was quite willing to adapt/customize any of the tours to suit our needs. We did a two day tour combo, going hiking in Hickory Run State Park on the first day and learning about the coal mining history of the area on day two. The coal tour included a trip into an actual mine, a mini-tour of the surrounding communities, and finished up with a bike ride down the old switchback gravity mine car trail. What stood out to me, in addition to the interesting locales we visited, was the passion that Tom has to share the history of this area. He wanted to put the mine tour into the context of what it was like to have actually lived as a miner. He added his own information at the mine tour to what the tour operator told us. He shared about how the topography, geography, and geology all played into the story of the coal industry's history. And the mini-tour of the communities helped us learn about the economic impact (past and present) of the industry. Tom not only displays passion for the history of the region, he is congenial and a good communicator. And he is also very observant of everyone on the tour, doing his best to give individual attention to assure each person as a good experience. I only wish we had more time to learn about other aspects of Jim Thorpe's history. I guess we have something to look forward to on our next visit.

Instead, our guide Tom created a tour and hiking excursion that also told a story with every step. From the history of the town on the street level to an expansive view of the valley from above, Tom made sure every minute was interesting and filled with new information, We left not only informed, but with a feeling of being a part of the community. We can't give a higher recommendation than we can give Tom and JTX.
