I'm a novice knitter and already a yarn snob. ;) This store is heaven! While it's not very big, it has ALL of the yarn you could ever need or want. Eva carries exquisite yarn from producers like MadelineTosh, Malabrigo, Debbie Bliss, Shibui, etc. The variety of yarn, as well as the colorways, are stunning. As you would imagine, Eva's a highly-skilled knitter and the patience of a saint. She's saved me from multiple newbie screw-ups without making me feel badly about it. I got beautiful Malabrigo, Cascade, and Araucania yarns here during an event. The Araucania was a part of the very generous goodie bags (tote bag, 433yds of Araucania sock -- superwash wool+ polyamide, knitting needle gauge, a cowl pattern) they were giving away for an event. The ladies at Eva's Needlework were warm, lovely, and helpful. The yarn selection was exquisite (they even carry stuff with super soft yak in it!) and extensive. Pricing was exactly the same as you'd find online (Jimmy Beans, Craftsy, etc) but actually lower than WEBS as of this review. Seeing and feeling the yarn is incomparable to just ordering online as well! read more

Today was my first time visiting Eva's Needlework. I went into the store, because I had a question about a knitting project I had started; there was a mistake and I did not know how to fix it. Eva is an absolute knitting angel! I showed her the area in question and she determined what the mistake was and was able to take project apart up to that point. Eva was able to put the project back on my circular needles and she did so very quickly; I think it took her less than 10 minutes. I was really worried that I'd need to start the project over. I also purchased some yarn and Eva was kind enough to help me find enough skeins of the color I wanted. Customer service is important to me and I will definitely return to this store. I've popped in several times in the last two months. Eva, the proprietor has been there each time. My mother and I have been greeted warmly and the one-on-one attention has been very nice. I stopped in while I was in town and it was pretty packed on a Saturday morning, but I was greeted right away and the lady asked if I needed any help. I said I was looking for sock yarn and she said I was in the right place (the sock yarn was right near the door). She asked a couple times if I needed anything even though she was knitting with a large group, so I did not feel at all neglected. I was in a bit of a hurry so didn't get to check out the whole store, but I found a couple nice sock yarns to purchase. I saw a lot of the same brands I see where I live, didn't really notice anything unusual, but as I said I didn't really have time to browse. I would come back if I were in the area. read more

Was looking for some cotton yarn to make dishrags, my favorite hobby. The lady who showed me the yarn was pleasant. There were a few ladies there working on projects and visiting with each other. I was told there are evening get-togethers for people who want to work on their projects and get help. This is the first yarn shop I've been to ever since I moved to L.A.. I missed going to the candy store (AKA yarn shop). Cute little store, but great variety of yarns! There's a big table right when you enter the store where you can work on your projects. I like how the owner combined both needlework and yarn together. Parking wasn't a problem. Evas is interesting. I have never really gotten the helpful vibe from the staff which when you want it can be kinda irritating. They always have sale yarns but most of them are in bulk bundles so if you are making matching scarves or hats for the whole family or that crazy cardigan you have been telling yourself you will eventually make then it's great. They have a fair amount of luxury yarns and prices can be a bit on the hefty side. They also have a nice selection of needles. read more

I've heard that when you go into Eva's during the day to purchase goods that they are not very helpful or welcoming. However I came here Wednesday evenings to learn to crochet and I loved it. The adorable german lady who teaches is very sweet and helpful and knowledgeable. The "class" feels more like a knitting group which is really nice and the other ladies are very cheery and talkative. The fee for the class was very low, the yarns and supplies are a little pricey. I loved learning to crochet here and will be returning to learn how to knit. read more

I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this shop but it seems like a reliable source for LYS-quality staples (think a step or two above Michael's). Pros: +open on Mondays +large selection of workhorse yarn, pattern magazines, needles, notions, and needlepoint supplies Cons: -mediocre service* -no special/interesting yarn aside a very small selection of Madelinetosh and Malabrigo -the store is a bit of a mess with stock all over the floor -stock felt dated/not on trend and staff isn't tech savvy -prices for some items seemed high, especially given the other cons *As other reviewers noted, the staff ignored me until I sought their assistance. They weren't rude, but customer service obviously isn't their focus. For example, on today's trip I bought some buttons and needles, and the saleswoman had to search around for a bag then emptied some things out of a small paper bag that was too small for the needles and put the needles and the buttons loose in the bag. Every yarn shop I've bought buttons from in the past has put them in a ziploc baggie. Review based on 3 visits. read more

I hadn't been in to Eva's in years and just stop by because I was having difficulty with a project and wanted to see if they had something I needed for it and if they could help me figure out my problem. The women who helped me was so sweet and helpful. She had the artistic eye I needed to confirm what my project was missing and found the perfect yarn to tie it all together and make a masterpiece. Eva's is an enchanted wonderland of gorgeous unique yarn with amazing textures and colors. I have to be careful not to spend a fortune there because everything is so lovely. It is also extremely organized and the women who helped me was very familiar with their products and with knitting in general. I think the store has a lot to offer when it comes to supplies, but I'm highly disappointed in the customer service. I walked in and the owner asked how she can help. I felt it was like pulling teeth to get her to actually help me. They did not give me a welcome feeling. I told her I wanted to learn to crochet. She pointed to where the needles were. I asked if she had any suggestions or anything for what I should get because I'm a beginner. She made a comment that I need to pick the size yarn first and she continued on with what she was doing while the woman beside her was looking at me and chuckled. Alright, so I am wandering around aimlessly trying to pick out the yarn. I hear another woman and the owner talking about the store's reviews online. Particularly the negative ones. She says "I don't know what that's all about." They thought it was because of another employee who they knew was rude. I have to laugh now because, clearly, the owner doesn't realize she needs to reevaluate her own customer service skills. Anyway, so I pick out a yarn and walk over to the owner. I tell her I would like to crochet a scarf for my son and asked if this was a good choice. She gave me a smirk and said, "it's warm." Ok now, for somebody who is supposed to be knowledgeable and the owner of the store, I was thinking I would receive a little more help. I kept up my smile and asked, "ok, great, now can you help me with what needle I need?" She only helped if I asked a question and she was very short with any question I asked. I told her I was a beginner and instead of feeling welcomed, I just felt judged the entire time. I think the reason why it bugs me so much is because the yarn that I picked out is definitely NOT a good starting yarn for a beginner! I picked it because I thought it was good quality and it looked pretty. It is way too small for me to learn with! I was thinking about going back to pick out more, but decided I'll be a lot happier going to another store. read more

It is my LYS (local yarn shop) and it is OK. The owner is nice enough and always willing to help me with my project, but she does seemed more worried about the people that are working at the table. The other staff is much nicer. They do have a great selection of yarn, but it is extremely disorganized. You can have all the yarn in the world, but if you can't find anything what's the point? I have been in three times so far, and every single woman who has helped me out has been kind and very helpful. The ladies who hang out here knitting are very talented and passionate about the craft. I guess I do have one negative thing to say: there are walls and walls of too much beautiful yarn and expertly crafted knitwear that it can make anyone overwhelmed and want to buy too much than their bank account can handle. The owner needs to take some courses in Customer Service area. She and her helpers are all very rude, unfriendly, and uninterested in assisting customers with questions. Asked a question and the owner mumbled to her helper: "It is on the label" and then smirked. Geez! Ladies, maybe your customers can't see very well at that time, maybe they forgot their eyeglasses at home and needed some basic info about the yarn before spending money in your shop!
