Excellent food - some of the best I've had. Quesabirria tacos are on point and the consume' is world class. The staff at the restaurant are down to earth people who are friendly, hard-working, and attentive to your needs. Beware - there is very limited seating but I still recommend finding a way to eat here. We ordered 2 of the quesabirria plates (3 tacos each), the camerones tostada, 2 fish taco plate, and 2 drinks - our total for the night was $52 bucks - the best deal, hands down! I highly recommend dining in if there is room inside. Otherwise, you'd have to order to go. The place was pushing out order after order for pickup - it was amazing to see how much food they push out of the kitchen. Again, the food was very delicious, hot and fresh. Soy hawaiiano pero se hablo espanol, pequito. Hablo espanol con los trabajores de cocina. Ellos muy simpatico!

Five stars for the food... only missing one star because you sit close enough to strangers from them to eat off of your plate. .. we had the Huachucas... his with chorizo, mine with Carne asada. .. both delish. .. no tables. ... just counter space for 12... we will be back! read more

Amazing tortillas and great people. Just a little cafe with about 12 stools and no tables. Eva is fun. Had a telenovela plate with rice and beans. Muy delisiosa! Somewhat sketchy for parking unless you find a space in front on the street. read more

By far the best Mexican place in the region, possibly the state. It is small, but well decorated. The food is perfectly executed, and they always provide you with fresh salsas. If you can't make up your mind, go with a huarache with grilled nopal. Truthfully though, I am sure everything on the menu would leave you satisfied. Another thing, their aguas are homemade (kind of a big deal, in a good way). read more

The customer service is HORRIBLE. They only accept cash, however they won't tell you that when you place an order over the phone until you get there. I refuse to spend my money in a place where the service is bad. read more

This place is like walking into grandma Eva's house and sitting down in her kitchen while she makes you homemade authentic mexican. There was not much english spoken here (I had to order in Spanish even though I don't speak it). When my date asked for pico de gallo, the server cut it up fresh right there. I ordered the fish tacos, but they came fried with breading on them, so my date switched meals with me. I had something like an eggs scramble with jalapenos and rice and beans. I was sincerely in love with the rice and beans. SO GOOD! Their homemade corn tortillas are amazing. This place was awesome....especially compared to the poor excuse for Mexican food in the East Bay. read more

I loved their homemade tortillas, guacamole, and fresh juices. Prices aren't too expensive either. Definitely will be coming back soon! The place is a bit small but everything else makes up for it. Tried the enchiladas and they were definitely one of the bests I've tried around other than my mom's lol. This place is definitely a gem hidden in Salinas, at a first glance you wouldn't consider this place a gem but it definitely is! read more

I've been so grossed out all day ,before going in to work I decide to go by Eva's and grab something for breakfast . Big mistake !! As I'm waiting for my change I see a big cockroach on the restroom door trim / gap!! Well if you've been there the restroom is right in front of the counter were you eat , will never eat there again !!!! read more

This place has some of the most delicious food you will ever find.However,it is a bit of a whole in the wall type place,don't let the appearance fool you. I read a review that said they do not English,but I cannot confirm that for sure. I speak Spanish too,so I've never had a problem there.As with all good things,you do have to wait a while for your food,but believe me,you will not be disappointed.Whatever you order will be delicious,but do specify if you don't want hot and spicy.They make their food fresh,just like their tortillas.If you want something quick and cheap,this ain't for you.If you want mouth watering delicious food,Eva's cafe is what you want. read more

OMG Eva's is Amazing!!! I'd give it 10 stars if I could. We now eat there 1 to 2 times a week it's so good. The place is wicked small so keep that in mind but the food makes up for the tight quarters. We've eaten quesos, chilaquillies (both green & red and both soooo good!) chicken & shrimp fajitas and their tacos. Nothing we've eaten there has been less than perfect! read more

If I can give them 10 stars, I would! I had their lengua and chorizo tacos, and it is the best tacos ever!!! The tacos are twice as big as what u get from any taquerias in LA or OC or SD counties..Tortilla is made to order, and the meat is fresh and marinated well And they give u roasted chile and roasted green onions as sides. Yummm!! We also had the huaraches (carne asada with nopales, avocado, and queso fresco on top of fresh corn tortilla). Think of it as an open faced burrito. .. and most of all, the customer service is awesome.. the employees are super friendly and helpful.. thanks Armando and crew! You guys are the best. anyways, if u ever go to Salinas, be sure u check out Eva's cafe.. cash only by the way, and the place is small and quaint. This is a local place. They make everything fresh so u have to be patient. They speak English and Spanish. Don't assume that they only speak Spanish. We found this restaurant on Yelp and thought we would take a walk and try it out for lunch. When we were approaching the establishment we noticed they had converted the front of a house to a small kitchen with counters. We walked inside and there were 3 counters with chairs. This place holds approximately 16 people close together tops. There is also take out. We both ordered chicken tortas with everything. As we waited the place started to fill up and the take out line was getting pretty long. Finally our order arrived and it looked wonderful. We added some sauces and took our first bite, unbelievable. This was the best chicken torta ever, no gristle, no fat. Fabulous. I ordered a horchata that was also very good. We will definitely go back here again. Prices were very reasonable. Everyone speaks Spanish but our waitress spoke English with us. She sounded like English was her first language. I guess the down side of this place is that, it is so small and as you eat at the counter facing away from the street you get to see all the dirty dishes being washed so get there early and sit facing the street. read more

Maybe one day I will come here and try something other than the enchiladas. That will be a difficult choice because their enchiladas are exceptional. The restaurant is very small and it can be a long wait to get your food (even when I have called it in), but the food is always very good and worth the wait. They are cash only and seating inside is pretty limited. Portion sizes are very generous read more

This spot is pretty chill, love the layout and the hole in the wall atmosphere, great food. Hate when I go at 9pm to eat, they are already cleaning so I can taste the bleach in the air, like close the damn restaurant or wait til we leave to begin cleaning. Also the chick taking your order is a total bitch and acts like shes better than you, bitch if youre too good for that job then leave, i never asked YOU to serve me. Wow! This place looks a little shady when you pull up at night but don't be scared off! Seriously some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. And I grew up in central CA where "authentic" Mexican restaurants are abundant. We split the Molcajete between 2 of us - enough food for 4 people! This was a sampler plate of all their meats as well as cactus and rice, beans, and guacamole. Served with homemade tortillas which were amazing. We don't make it through Salinas very often but we will be stopping here next time we are in the area. read more

If you go you must get the molcajete. $20 for a giant stone bowl filled with shrimp, sausage, steak, pork, cactus ad grilled onions coupled with sides of guac, home made tortillas, salsa and rice and beans. One of the best meals I've had in a long time. You have to go now! On top of that everyone there is super nice. Makes me wish i was in Salinas more often. read more

This place is amazing. An absolute do-not-miss. The owner's son is gracious and welcoming to everyone, including English only speakers. The food is authentic and out of this world, and NOTHING like Mexican chain restaurants. No chips - because "real" Mexican restaurants don't serve chips - that's an American thing. This place is so tiny it looks like a closet. Hold maybe 14 people. Doesn't matter. Worth it. We had a cheese enchilada (best ever) and fajitas (best ever). Great after seeing the movie chef when you need food that really speaks to you. read more

Where I come from (SF Bay Area), a super burrito includes sour cream, cheese, guacamole, and pico de gallo. This one only included the pico de gallo with bland rice and beans. What a rip off for $14. On top of that, when I walked in there was a lady leaning on the counter, waiting for what looked like a refund. She didn't look very happy. The cherry on top was while waiting to pay for my order I saw one of the cooks in the kitchen casually place a prepped plate in the microwave, right in plain view. Yep, that kinda sums it up right there.

There is some seating available, and a restroom indoors. You are also provided with chips and salsa while you wait for your food. We tried their tacos de asada, asada fries, and an Horchata. I was unfortunately not a fan of their tacos de asada, but enjoyed the rest of the food and drink. My boyfriend, however, loved the tacos. The salsa is super spicy, which I love. The staff was friendly, but it did take a while for our food to come out. I definitely think this place is worth a try.

Yes, this is a tiny little place. This place is not about the place, it is about the food, 100%. This might as well be a food truck, this is not a place to bring an entire family for dinner. If you want to eat with your family, call in advance and get the plates to go. This is the best Mexican food in town, bar none. It is fresh, tortillas are homemade, try the enchilada plate or the ever popular Huarache plate. This is a great place to come in and eat by yourself at the counter, or with a friend. Otherwise, you can take it to go. This is not a traditional sit-down restaurant and cannot be judged by the standards of such. Yes, the food may take a little bit longer, but that is because fresh food takes time. The tortillas are homemade, I cannot stress that enough. read more

If you're looking for that fresh homemade meal from grandma's house this is the place to go. They have a great variety of food from breakfast to dinners and also plates big enough to share. You will be getting your money worth. My favorite dish is the molcajete. Its got steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, cactus, and a delicious salsa. It comes with fresh guacamole, rice, beans, cheese, and homemade tortillas. It can feed 2 or more for only about 20 dollars. The best part is they deliver. Sometimes ill be stuck in the office so i just call them about an hour before. Or just order at home for the whole family. And they deliver anywhere in salinas. It truely is great food. Only negative thing i have to say is that they dont serve beer. :-( read more

Best mexican food in town. Only downside is location. I recommend moving to the south side guys. It's time to progress and really improve your seating. Got elbowed a few times picking up a Molcahete, which i highly recommend. Ordered over the phone. Was ready in 20 mins. Very fast and quality for its price. Keep the business and quality of food up. Please don't loose that taste like the Casa Del Sazon. They started great and as every business got greedy for tips and the portions shrank. So summing it all up. Awesome food. Take out would be best. Parking could be better. Cash only. Overall 5 stars for quality of food. read more

I am always in search of the best chili relleno and today I may have found it. This is a small authentic Mexican food establishment. Emphasis on small space but huge portions and high quality. With food like this, they'll be in a larger spot soon. Don't miss this place if you like truly authentic Mexican fare. Fresh homemade tortillas were hot and awesome. The rellenos were the largest I think I have seen and the flavors were marvelous. read more

The food is delicious. Well I've only tried the Molcajete and I love it. It has a combination of different flavors. I love the fact that I can add extra things at no charge (win win). And the tortillas are home made which makes the food taste more authentic. The only down side are the chairs (no where to seat). Parking also sucks (had to park 2 blocks away) but it's worth it! read more
