So when I was done, I called Aselson's Hardware in town. Which is a big thing, I usually never call places, I like to browse(usually I'm not in a hurray). But I had a migraine and didn't want to walk around looking for an item again. A young man answered the phone, super nice, I didn't know how to properly word my item, as I didn't have the name "support peg" yet. But the guy said "we have a wide array of pegs and shelving support, stop in and will help." Which is exactly what happened! Wish I had gotten the kids name. A young man with glasses helped me find the items, helped me narrow down what I needed/size/amount and other things I didn't think of. I'm super glad I didn't have to wait for an online order. I did have to pay a bit more than online/Amazon/Walmart. But I got better service, no doubt I'd have bout the same thing three times at Walmart because it was the wrong size if not for the great guy helping me! I've also had the best service at the paint bar, be it the conversation while they mix and help choosing. And they helped me make a decision on what kind I needed, since I didn't realize there's a difference between the paints. I just grabbed. Shop small Stoughton!

I am writing this review for my son who rented a small excavator from New Glarus Hardware - well…read morenot really. He was arranging for soil testing at a home he had an accepted offer on. He had to arrange for a State of Wisconsin and a County employee both to be there to witness the results. In addition he had two architects from north of Milwaukee to create plans for a septic system. These soil tests and septic were contingencies in his offer and the ground was close to freezing which made this the only chance to complete this. He arrived the morning of the rental to find two clueless employees who clearly did not even know he had made arrangements two weeks prior for the rental (and called to change the date due to the weather), the excavator buried in snow from the week before and they didnt even plug it is so of course no chance of getting it started. Basically the employees told him there was nothing they could do. I just wanted you to know that not only did he not get the house, had to rescind the offer, two employees of the State and Country wasted their time and he had to pay the two architects for their time. I WOULD NOT SET FOOT IN THIS PLACE IF IT WAS THE LAST HARDWARE STORE IN WISCONSIN. Unbelievable. Thanks for taking away my son's opportunity and treating the situation like it was no big deal. Well it was!

The last time I went in was a few years ago to get a bag of sheer pins. I have gone to this hardware for over 17 years. I will no longer do any business with them because…read moreof their lack of appropriate response to COVID-19 and inability to change with customer needs. Before the government imposed mask mandate, the employees refused to wear masks. When I asked why they were not wearing masks I was told "we are too busy". After the mask mandate I decided to try again with curbside service. The curbside service worked well a few times. Then I called the store to do curbside service yesterday and was told they will no longer take credit cards over the phone. So basically they no longer do curbside pickup. When I said they would not get my business they said ok. It's disappointing that any business in these times needs a mandate to do the right thing and wear masks inside. And they apparently don't care if they adjust to changing times and offer curbside pickup which is the standard now. Plenty of businesses that care are doing what they can to beat this virus and still thrive. I will take my business to those establishments.

They have a very small selection of some key essential items, and some random odds and ends that you wouldn't expect them to. If you're on this side of town, and you're not wanting to put in a few extra miles, they're the only store of its kind in this particular corner of town. Bowever, they are well aware of that, and the price they charge for their merchandise is well above what it should be. And I get it, they're not a huge chain, they're a small little no name store, so they're just taking out the loss it costs businesses to even get up and running out on the customers because they expect them to pay it vs wasting their own time driving up town, I'm traffic, with our awfully slow speed limits, and our slow, unpredictable lights, so a lot of them will just eat their wallet, cut the loss, get what they need and try not to dwell on it too much. $12 for a 2 set of grilling skewers? And we needed three, so that's two, $34, plus tax, for essentially a pokey coathanger. Woof. Employee didn't know if they had them or where they might be, but otherwise she was very, very sweet. She seems to know my stepdad very well from him coming in there frequently to get random doodazzles and whatsits, and she's very nice to him, which means a lot to me, unfortunately it just doesn't pull enough sway to bring them higher up on the ratings. Nothing you can't get here you can't get anywhere else, and they're proud of their merchandise, as reflected on the price sticker. I will say, that it looks like they might have some weird candy it check out that I don't know if I've ever seen before in convenience stores, and that always piqued my curiosity a little bit, but I didn't come in with a wallet, so I didn't try any. Also not really something one should really be judging this type of establishment on. Whoopsie! Hehe. Just a little note that I didn't explore the time store, some of it might be rare, astounding, and reasonably priced, but I kind of doubt it. I think they're just banking on a convenient location and people paying more to get in and out, like people paying more at a Walgreens than somewhere else.

Bought a Pit Boss.... already assembled... it is dented on the bottom and all the screws are over tightened and chewed up... doesn't work when plugged in. Spent an hour on the phone with Pit Boss and they are sending a new controller. My husband calls True Value to discuss the condition of the grill. Manager offers to replace it but not assemble it... mind you this grill is around 220lbs... great service is making it right.... not meeting the lowest expectations.. by the way we weren't hung up but we heard what you said..... now won't take our calls..(5).and hung up on us when we called back.. smh

You'll more than likely be dealing with one of the owners when you need some help finding a part or figuring out a problem, and they'll help you until things are all figured out. Ed remembers just about everyone's name, and he can recollect all your household projects for years to come as he asks how they turned out or are holding up. Could not find a better place to solve household problems in this day and age.

The first omen was seeing a man with no mask on. There is a state requirement about masks.. If you are going to post signs about wearing a mask, enforce it! No one was at the paint department, so the woman at the check-out register announced on the P.A. for assistance at the paint department. After waiting 10 minutes, I left. And the store was not busy at all! I had planned to buy the items on my long list while the paint was being mixed. I doubt if I'll go back. This used to be one of my favorite stores. It seemed like there were always friendly, usually older, men ready to assist or answer any questions. It's changed. And not for the better.
