I swam and worked at Evans Pool the summer after I graduated high school and during my first two years at the University of Washington (2010 to 2012). The pool was kept a good temperature for lap swimming and rec swim. Lap swim would get busy at times, but if well coordinated I could get a swim in before or after my work shift to stay healthy and active. There is a sauna located at the shallow end of the pool and a diving board at the deep end. One of the things I found good weird about this pool was its activity level during the summers. At outdoor pools, summer can get packed. Since Evans Pool is an indoor pool and located right across the walking path from the lifeguarded swimming area at Green Lake, traffic wasn't too bad during the summers. Sure the sun's rays might not be directly overhead, but sometimes it is just nice to get in a swim in a non-overly crowded pool, which can be difficult when sunny and warm in the Seattle area. For that alone, Evans Pool is a stand out in my books. read more

This is my favorite pool out of the public pools in the Seattle area, although it's a bit older and slightly run down. But it's got a great location! Unfortunately the location is so good (it's at Green Lake park, so you could even do a combo of walking the lake & swimming in the same outing) that parking is horrible here! I typically have to drive around the parking lot like 3 times in circles or find a parking spot further away on the street. I don't mind the walk so much but many times I'm getting out of water aerobics class around 9:30 or 10p.m. and don't like walking in the dark that far with nobody around. The pool is much shorter than most pools but that's fine with me, makes it seem like I'm doing more laps that way ;) Really dislike the locker rooms, they are pretty gross and there are big puddles of water everywhere. They do have a swim suit dryer which I really like & use all the time. The sauna is fabulous and my favorite part of this place. Just the right temperature and the people in the sauna all seem to be regulars and very social and chatty. There are bleachers to sit on, so if you're a parent watching your children, this is great. Water aerobics and lessons are great. They even have lessons for adults and they have excellent instructors. If they need to give you a refund for something, sadly they won't credit your credit card. However they will give you a credit when you come to the pool next, which is an incentive to use the pool more in order to get your money back. read more

Poor maintenance and poor management. I had my swimming class scheduled at 8pm. When I arrived, they simply told me that the class was canceled without any notification. The reception was really rude and impolite. At 8:10pm, they let all parents with kids in, I tried to told with the reception old lady, she simply ignored me twice, then I approached her, she starts to be very irritated and angry with me, even I was really nice and patient to ask her if I can just use the pool to swim at the moment. She immediately said she can cancel all my future class and almost start to curse me. She called the manager to come. The manager himself seems reasonable, but the management is clearly incompetent. He could have one person to contact students about the poll containment on at 7:30pm when they found it out. Very bad experience. I almost suspect the old lady is racist to non-Caucasian people. read more

I love this pool and I love these the swim teachers. The water is warm and there is a great community vibe around.

Otherwise known as the Greenlake Pool, this is a busy place. Two schools use this pool as shown by their record times on the wall. Lap swim is well attended and the water exercise classes are crowed. Evening classes are better than morning as the geriatrics clog up the works in the AM. There is a big sauna, but it is usually filled with a bunch of sweaty swim junkies. Finding an off hour to attend here when it isn't congested is tricky. People here are freakin' serious about swimming. Where many of the other municipal pools are mostly old people and children, this has the toned hardbodies looking to socialize. Since it is so discovered and used by so many people, I just can't give it 5 stars. Too many people are messing with me here for it to be a five star pool experience. read more

My triathlon group rented the whole swimming on a Sunday morning for training. The cost for each of us was like $15. The whole group also had life guard on duty for the hour we were there. It's a nice standard pool, good for training and learning swimming. You can also find some swimming tools in the facility like kick board, pedals, etc. By the door, the entrance, there's the bench area where you can put your swimming stuff. The shower facility is a bit cold and updated, but it's functional. Parking is not a problem. It's by Greenlake Park. read more

I think I've earned the right to review this place. A large part of my childhood was taking swimming lessons when I was just a little kid. Maybe around 14 years ago (I'm 21 now you do the math hehe) as the years go by, I've seen many faces that work the pool, the changes that have been made and the quality of it all. The pool itself 4/5. It's a decently large pool and a great spot to go to on weekdays or weekends if you want to do some laps. There are lanes places for those who are looking to go fast/medium/slow. There are 2 life guard posts and a diving board. It's been awhile but there's a lot of accessories as well (tubes, paddle boards, floaties, etc.) The Sauna is a solid 3/5 from the last time I checked it out. It's a great sauna but it's always filled with oldies, kinda dark, and at some points uncomfortable depending on how many people are there. It reminds me of being in a mafia since I'm surrounded by all these oldies. If you're looking for a sauna and don't care, go for it but it's just not like other saunas you can go to. The locker room is a 3/5. It could have been a 2/5 YEARS ago but the remodel was very nice and it made everything cleaner and easy to keep neat and tidy. There's 2-3 stalls with toilets and 3-4 urinals for men. There is absolutely no privacy but were men. Just don't look below the waist. The lockers are pay to use and it's really convenient to have. Storage space is small so keep it compact with a small bag. Showering is quick and easy but it can very well become hectic during busy hours. It's a communal shower so dicks everywhere. Overall it's a great place to go. It's very friendly and the staff is great. If you grew up around a community center, you'll know the feeling. This place was my childhood and I love seeing it grow to such a great place today. PS: couple of schools/ homeless come by the locker room to shower. Just show your respects and keep to yourself. read more

Thisi s my neighborhood pool. I used tos wim laps here often. It is fun and relaxing. It's a bit old, a bit run down. Staff changes constantly and their ability to form complete sentences as opposed to guttural responses varies.. typical young generation work style. I gave it 5 stars because I appreciated the pool itself. I also took a few aqua aerobics clsses and greatly appreciated those for cross training and therapy when I had injuries which athletes get at times. The sauna was fun. After a lap swim we could sit in the sauna and watch toddler swim teachers and the caring instructors and cautious parents. It's an all around good place. Parking has its challenges..just factor it in. read more

I go swimming here a couple times a month when it isn't summertime. It's a great thing about Seattle, as compared to most cities, that there are some public indoor pools so you don't have to pay for a membership somewhere in order to swim in the winter. I like to go during adult swim on a weekday afternoon because they let you stay for public swim afterwards, making it the longest session available for the flat fee of $4.75. And I don't have to swim laps, as they leave half the pool open for those of us who don't want to. The water is always nice and warm, and the sauna is definitely a reason to keep coming back. I didn't think the locker rooms were dirty, and there's even a hair dryer you can use (nice when it's cold out and you have to ride your bike home.) If memories of high school gym class still give you the willies after 10+ years, definitely don't stay till the end of the sesh on a swim team practice day. Like OMG, there's like nothing more terrifying than changing out of your suit in front of like 40 16-year-old girls. read more

I'm from out of town and WOW, am I impressed with the quality of this community pool. I suggest taking a look at their schedule (http://www.seattle.gov/parks/aquatics/Pools/evans/schedule.htm) and deciding what type of swim you want. I went to the Adult Swim session, 12-1:30pm. The pool wasn't crowded. Three lanes were blocked off for lap swims and there was plenty of room for "unstructured" swimming (my style of swimming). After paying the $4 admission, I headed to my car to put my belongings away and the lady who took my money called to me. She told me if I ever wanted to store things in my car, I should do so before leaving my vehicle or else my car will be targeted and broken into. There is a small parking lot right by the pool and I was lucky to get parking on my first try. Lockers are available for 25 cents. You get a key, but no in and out privileges (the lockers takes your quarter after you open it). In the pool area, there is a table for bags and hooks for towels. The water wasn't too heavily chlorinated (which I like). The shower water is warm and there are free soap dispensers! While I was swimming, I saw that they had a chair to move people, who use the pool for physical therapy purposes, in and out of the water. I'm not sure if any of the other pools have it, but I thought it was a nifty service. read more

Keep it up Evans pool team. The bathroom was very clean. The pool was very clean. This is just about the only thing that matters for a community pool. They were much cleaner then most gyms and certainly 24 hour fitness. I left 24 hour fitness because they refused to clean their foul lap pool or even acknowledge they had a problem when talking to management. For swimming laps I would like Evans pool to drop the temp, it's on the warm side. I went at 5pm and the fast lanes were packed solid. The medium and slow lanes had 4 people each. Definitely crowded and I hear morning is worse. Edit* after swimming here for about a year I have to say that sometimes they miss the mark on keeping the water filtered and clean. The pool is very heavily used and that takes a significant effort to keep it clean. However, with so many patrons they should have the money to do so. read more

Say, you're all right Evans Pool. Since this is the first time I used a pool for actual "exercise" only, I don't have much to compare to, but no major problems. It was busy during the late evening adult swim, and even though I was in the "less structured/no lap" side, I still got a few dirty looks for being so slow and I'm sure breaking some kind of etiquette rule with my labored breathing. I was looking forward to lap swimming at this pool but have now given up. It is not a problem with the pool itself, it is just overcrowded. When there are 5 people to a lane and others waiting to get in- that's not workable or good for anyone. I ended up treading water for exercise in the deep end and that's not why I swim. As much as I love the area and want/need to swim this won't work- even the early morning hours are crowded. read more

Great public pool right off of greenlake. They have laps going during public swim so you're not stuck waiting for very narrow lap time. That equals less people per lane. They have a sauna as well but higher prowl area in the locker room. Bring a quarter and pay for the locker or bring your own lock. read more

Evans pool has THE BEST STAFF of any of the community pools. The lifeguards are attentive and friendly, the swim instructors are knowledgeable, patient, fun and understanding. Pool, deck, and locker rooms are clean and well monitored. Parking can be a pain but, cmon, it's on Greenlake, you should be prepared for that. all in all, I love Evans Pool! read more

The locker room is disheveled, and the drains are often clogged with hair YUCK...many of the lockers are broken. I have enjoyed water aerobics in the past but actually got out of the pool and asked for my money back last night. It was too crowded and people were literally swimming into one another. Again a big YUCK. There seems to be no monitoring of how many people are allowed in the class. Staff change often, overall it is a good value if you can tolerate dirty locker rooms and overcrowding. read more

I go here with some of my students once a week. The welcome staff and the lifeguards are very kind and sweet to our kids. Sometimes the pool can be a little to cold for my taste. It its currently 3.25 for a swimming session, which seems a little pricey to me. read more

My boyfriend and I had planned on going for a swim just tonight. He checked it out beforehand and noted that the sauna would be open at 6:30pm. However when we arrived at the pool, he asked the older woman at the counter if we may use the pool. She was extremely rude to the both of us in her mannerisms and tone of voice when she told us that we may not use the pool, and that something else (I don't remember what, now) was going on. Now, we didn't know this and had only been misinformed, and to his credit my boyfriend was polite beforehand AS WELL AS afterwards. We then left and instead went to the Ballard Pool and were very politely received. I doubt we'll be going back to that location after such terrible customer service. read more

I've been swimming at Evans for over 20 years. The pool is clean, the showers and baths are clean and most of the staff is warm and welcoming. Seattle has changed over the years but Evans Pool has not. This is a community pool where the lifeguards and swimmers have a mutual respect. "Caveat"....it's an indoor pool with young children so the chlorine is set high for health and I always take a post swim shower at home. read more

This is my pool and I love it. There is definitely a swim etiquette and it's not rocket science: let those faster than you pass when you come to the rail and don't get in front of someone who you're not certain is faster than you are. Yes it's crowded and yes, the lanes are divided by speed of swimmers, not by availability. The staff is excellent and Donna, the pool manager, is a genius. read more

I started swimming at Evan's Pool --- oh 20-ish years ago and I keep going back for more. Over time I have swam (hmm funny word) at most of Seattle's pools--indoor and out. Evan's is cool mostly because of location----in a lovely park, with a well-travelled 3 mile bike and foot path around Green Lake. And there's a Seattle Public Library right across the street...... where you can chill and read magazines before or after your swim. And a bunch of low-cost, half decent food joints within an ez walk of the pool. The pool is pretty decent., older but well-maintained....sauna with lots of sauna lizards sweating it up. Often you will be sharing a lane with 2-3 others and some of these guys leave a big wake while they butterfly along. Tons of lessons for kids and a lot of exercise classes. Locker rooms are no frills ----- no private shower ---- and pretty small----but it's still all good. Nice staff. Pretty much of a winner all around. I suggest working it out to avoid when the kids are zipping through the locker room for lessons-----they can be pretty screechy. Happy swimming! read more

I was taking my kids to Lynnwood Rec Center for lessons, till I got fed up with their horrible management... I was told by another lesson parent that Green Lake pool had awesome swim teachers so I decided to try it out. I am blown away with this pool!! My kids have had nothing but amazing swim teachers, and not only my kids, but the parents watching the swim classes are smiling. I love this pool. The only problem is the long wait for the showers. read more
