We have spent our summers here for a few years now and needless to say my family loves it! The smaller pool is warm and not deep at all perfect for the little tots. The bigger pool is cooler but not cold. Kids under 18 need to pass a swim test in order to use deeper parts of the pool. Anyone can use the slide, if they have a life jacket or a parent catches them at the bottom of the slide. We like to go for the early swim, pack a picnic and eat after the swim and then sign up for the second swim and make a day out of it. I like that they have free life jackets to borrow and 50cent towel rentals. Parking can be tricky and the swims do tend to sell out so get there early and line up, or you could be turned away. read more

Best outside pool! I know there is only Lincoln and this one. The first has the view, but this one has the fun for all. The first pool is a small one for toddlers. On weekends days they have toys so little ones can play with them. They also offer life jackets in case you forget yours. It is warm. I felt it could be a less warmer but it was perfect for kiddo. The second pool is larger and deeper. It also has an slide. Water feels nice on summer days. Everyone is very respectful. Outside and inside bathrooms. Lifesaver Staff is friendly and is constantly changing every few minutes. I guess to keep a sharp eye and not getting tired? read more

Great pool but lifeguards were not particularly kind. We are a family of 5 from Florida. All of our kids have had swimming lessons and are independent swimmers. They were required to take a "swimming test" to move beyond the kiddie swimming area but the rules of said test were not explained so they were unable to "pass". Then my almost 13 year old was required to stay within arms length of me. All of my kids were upset. We will try a different pool with hopefully lifeguard who are more clear and kind. read more

Been meaning to try out this place forever and glad I finally did. I went during the public swim time when it's just parents and kids, so I knew what I was getting into. My 5 year old had a blast on the water slide, swimming with me in the main pool and even a little bit in the kiddy pool although that's really for toddlers. I might have had some fun too. We got here just 20 minutes before opening time and I was worried the session would be all sold out, but we got our ticket quickly and were about the 5th or 6th person waiting in line for the session to start. Pool was warmer than I thought it would be, but it's not sauna like. And I'm glad that they have two public swim times on most weekend days. You can even buy a ticket to both and just hang out on deck during the time between the two sessions where they clear the pool and clean it out if you want to be here for more than 90 minutes. The locker facilities aren't fancy, but they do the job and they're clean despite the massive amount of use they get. There's a small vending machine if you're in need of a snack, but not a snack bar or any kind of lunch options, so bring your own if you're going to need to eat. The lot is also tiny, but I didn't have any problem finding street parking right next door. I only wish Seattle had more public outdoor pools like this, because I can imagine on really hot days the crowd here gets unbearable, and it's a bummer that there's really only this pool and Coleman in West Seattle. Just to be clear, if you go there during Family swim, this is the place to go in Seattle. Its awesome I love it. If you are a lap swimmer like me and you don't swim fast, forget it. They have a easy lap swim lane that is taken over by the seniors just to hang out and chat and they are very territorial, they won't move to let you do circles. Maybe the lap swim at night is better, I'll try because the one at 12 pm didn't work for me. The manager LEO was very nice and asked them to swim the situation just escalated. The easy one belongs to them and they socialize, they don't swim, don't mess with them because they get really defensive. read more

It is COLD when you are wet and getting out of the pool into the breeze here. Damn cold getting out of an outdoor pool! Also when I was in the pool here, I couldn't help but think of how many gallons of wizz was in the water with me given the amount of children that had been in it moments ago. I'm not sure how much chlorine they put in the pool, but seriously. Let's face it. Half of the liquid in the place must have started its journey to the pool in a kiddie's juice box. Weakest water aerobics class yet. I breathed through my nose nearly the whole time. When I was showering and changing, a couple of the dudes were checking me out so hard I expected to be tipped for the show. Seriously dudes. They have websites you can check out to get rid of some of those frustrations. No need to subject the only straight guy at the pool at this time to your ravenous staring, alright? I'm not even that hot. The pool isn't deep. The water slide is huge for kids, but super small in my experience (meaning I wasn't tempted to bomb it with the tikes). Also a lot of people were eyeballing me like there was something wrong with me for not having 50 kids with me. Gee. Sorry I haven't carpetbombed a ton of uterus with zygotes yet. The facilities and location are the best part of this pool. No doubt, they're awesome. Swimming lessons were a waste of time and money here, my kiddo didn't make any progress. Actually learned a few bad habits I've had to work hard to correct. (pulling head up to breathe instead of a roll). This lack of progress made more sense when I came back with my 7 year old. She swims beautifully and was cruising across the deep water pool when she was called out by a lifeguard because she hadn't passed the "swim test". Ok, fine, that's reasonable, give her the swim test. But wait! The guard staff then realized she wasn't TALL enough to TAKE the swim test! They have a minimum height restriction for even taking the swim test??? (48", not mentioned on the website). Staff then told me, "it's ok, she can swim anywhere she wants, as long as she wears a life jacket." My 7 year old was too embarrassed and insulted by this restriction to enjoy the pool anymore. (is there such a thing as height discrimination?) It's quite apparent that they don't actually intend for children to LEARN to swim, or PRACTICE their skills here. But it's perfect if you just want to bob around on the steps, wear a life jacket, or hang on the wall. By the way, if your child likes to jump into the pool, you better make sure they know how to jump ramrod straight like a pencil (no 360's, no cannon balls, no belly flops, no slight leaning that might possibly be construed as an attempted dive) or the lifeguard will call them out and tell them they're not allowed to jump anymore. My children have never before been treated like such criminals. I'm not sure if it's this particular pool or policies of Seattle Parks and Rec, but we will not be back. read more

I was pretty impressed with everything except the price. I was out exploring the greater Seattle area with my nine-year old while we waited for my husband to arrive at SeaTac that evening. It was a gorgeous day and we both really wanted to go swimming. It's situated in a cute neighborhood. The trees and houses are so picturesque. Lots of hills to climb to get to this location! Like seriously steep hills! But it's about 12 min from Seattle Center so totally worth the drive. Thank goodness for GPS. I never would have found this street without a navigation system. Lots of side streets to get here, but it's such a pretty drive it was not a bother at all! The pool is clean, cute, and warm!!! I love, love, love that both pools are heated. We came during the weekday so very little crowds, and my son loved that we were able to buy some goggles there since we forgot our own at home. The only complaint I have is paying $9 for 1 1/2 hours of swim. Feels very steep and no breaks for coming in later than the start time. It was a little hard to stomach. But I'm super glad we had the experience. David rode down the water slide several times, and I enjoyed the nice warm water! It was just what we were looking for. Seattle is spoiled with nice pools. Magnolia holds one of the jems of the swimming pool crown with Mounger. For one thing, it's secluded from the rest of Seattle, meaning that primarily only Magnolians use it. This can be good or bad depending how you see it. I came here for the kiddie swim hour in their smaller children's pool. Thankfully a Magnolian told me to come at least a half hour prior to opening to ensure a ticket. She even mentioned on prime days to come an hour ahead since there are very few tickets and they go fast. The facility is nice enough. Clean locker rooms with secure lockers for a quarter, lots of showers and benches. And even a changing table in the locker room space. The kiddie pool is small and heated. Heated almost to point where it's a tad gross. I can't imagine being in it on a real hot day. Not refreshing. But for the kids, I'm sure it's a blast. Having designated times for different age groups is great. The babies were able to have fun without worry of older kids splashing or playing too rough. Parking can be dreadful since the lot is quite small but there is plenty of parking on the side of the road and it's a short walk. But really remember to get their early if you are set on going, otherwise you will be like the other parents stuck on the sidelines with a whining kid. read more

When you think of public swimming pools, you usually think of indoor pools, right?. Well, wouldn't it be nice if there was an outdoor pool, yeah, one with a separate pool for little kids, and oh, one where the big pool had a fun 50' corkscrew water slide that adults...I mean bigger kids (and adults) could slide down and drench everyone around with a big splash. Well, it pains me to the point of nausea that such a pool, Mounger Pool, exists for your summer fun. Oh sure, Colman Pool on the shores of beautiful Lincoln Park is an outdoor pool and yes, it has a spectacular view of Puget Sound with Vashon and Blake Islands and the Olympic Mountains in the background but; it doesn't have separate kiddie sized pool, or a water slide. It used to be a salt water pool but I think is a freshwater now. At any rate, I was willing to freeze my family jewels off in that pool when I was a kid but not today. Mounger is a beautiful, warm, modern pool and ls located in the heart of the very cool Mongolia...or rather, Magnolia district and on a beautiful summer day, it's the city pool for my wife and I (not everybody else) to be at. It reminds me of a nice country club pool. Only thing it's missing is a bar. So, check out the website for pictures and information. I wanted a pool over a lake. I wanted the sun. This was pretty much our only nearby option. I was thankful to read up on reviews beforehand to prepare me. As advised, we wore our swimsuits there and arrived a half hour before session time. I was surprised that it wasn't too busy and crowded, but we did go to the earlier session. I laid out and sunbathed for a bit while my son jumped right in a swam around. Finally he coaxed me to get in, and I am so glad I did. The temperate was amazingly perfect- easy to just jump right into. The staff seemed super nice, and overall facility is clean. I will definitely come back here again. :) read more

My wife was the first to tell me about this pool; we've taken our young several times to the public swim. It tends to get quite busy, so if you don't make it early enough to get in line, there's a chance you might not make it in. And even with the staff trying to monitor the number of families admitted, it can still be quite crowded. Still, if you're willing to accept those limitations, you'll find Mounger to be a clean and safe facility to take your family swimming. The "kids pool" is well designed, there's plenty of space for non-swimming family to sit around the pool, and there's plenty of lifeguards on duty. read more

We went for the morning swim which was one hour from 11am-12 pm. It was a total of $9 which is steep to me for only an hour of swimming. There are two life guards who continually repeat to stay within an arms reach of your children even if they have a floating device on them like a life jacket or water wings, which for a 25 ft diameter pool seems a bit silly especially as I mentioned there are two life guards. It isn't overcrowded but the pool is so small it can feel that way. The water was also bath temperature on a day that was supposed to be 70 degrees. Overall, I just don't it's worth the hassle of getting any child ready for one hour in a small pool that is a bit overpriced for what it offers. This pool is probably great for swim lessons it just isn't fun like other pools that offer a beach type entrances or spray functions. read more

I started taking adult swimming classes here and my instructor has been awesome and patient. I was the only person that signed up and they still had the classes. I pretty much have personal lessons! SO MANY CHILDREN! Listen to everybody else and arrive 30 minutes early to pay your admission. And pay the extra to use the slide! I was so jealous of everybody who got to play on it today. It gets pretty crowded during public swim, but it's awesome on a hot day to just jump in and splash around for a bit, then dry off in the sunshine and repeat the process until you're sick of it. Love this pool. Kids of all ages have a blast. They are allowed to go down the corkscrew slide with a life vest. If they are younger and have an adult to catch them at the bottom they are still able to use. It is a blast with friendly staff and clean facilities read more

The Mounger pool is a must visit for us in the summer! - I have a young child and this is the third year we have driven from West Seattle to Magnolia for swimming lessons. We appreciate that they are outside, that when she was smaller and in the little pool she stayed warm and could touch bottom which made for a huge boost in comfort and confidence. This is her first year in the big pool and they have allowed her to work at her comfort level for depth. The instructors are fantastic, the staff is friendly, and for us it is well worth the drive. Yes the place is filled with kids during open swim times. Yes the little pool can be too warm for me on a hot day but it is the kiddie pool and is perfect for little ones whose lips turn blue in under 10 minutes at the neighborhood wading pool. And yes lining up early on a nice day can eat your time and try the patience of your kids but it is well worth it in my book. read more

Love it! I live on the Eastside and make the trek here at least 1x/ year. They stay open 1 week past labor day, so we try to make it that last weekend. They have a separate kiddie pool with a mini-slide, and a large pool with a large slide. The vibe is great. I sort of wish I lived near here. Nice pool in a sleepy little Magnolia neighborhood. The kiddo loved the slide and I enjoyed the rays of sun and taking dips in the cool water. Yes, do follow the advice and get here a little ealier to buy your tickets. Buy your tickets and then stop by the Albertson's across the street for drinks and icecream before you come back and get into the entrance line that people start lining up in. Make sure to come with your suit already on as they will not let you in the door or the changing room until the session officially starts... so make the most of your time in line slathering sunscreen on and being prepared to jump right in. Or better yet come for both family swim sessions. One of the only negatives is that the showers are all the open stalls. Call me modest...here's my little story. I was using the stall in the corner and got the courage to take off my bathing suit because no one was in there. I needed a good showering. There was a little old lady coming back in for her little bottle of shampoo. She shot her arm out right between my legs and pulled it from the ground. eeeekkk. read more

I brought my kids here last summer and it was a blast! My kids (at the time 2 and 5) loved sliding down the small slide into the nice warm heated pool. It was about 98 degrees and only about 2 1/2 feet deep so the kids could walk around on their own. I can't wait for it to open again. read more

Not a lap pool most of the time, although they have a schedule that slots it in early in the morning and at night. Not early enough for me actually- I'd like to get in there before work, but they don't open until 7 am I think, so it is not possible. These outdoor pools are definitely Good for Kids - in fact, I thought I was going to be overrun by them, there were so many. Surprising, considering I was swimming at 8:30AM! The instructor was knowledgeable, effective, and friendly. The pool was warm at 85 degrees, a major plus considering it was a cloudy Seattle morning in the 60s! The pool and changing rooms are newer than most pools in Seattle, therefore they are cleaner. A minus is that the changing/shower room doesn't allow for much privacy. read more

I am a super huge junkie for outdoor (public) pools. I LOVE this and any other outdoor pool you can take me to. There is a pool for kids and then a pool for adults. The "adult" pool is only a 25 yard pool though and not Olympic sized like Coleman. :( Note: Lap swim here is actually much slower than lap swim at Coleman pool which may be good or bad depending on your preference. Nice pool in a nice facility in beautiful Magnolia but... It's a huge rip-off. Open swim is from 1- 2:25. Cost is 8 bucks.(adult+kid) Then they kick everybody out and have open swim from 3- 4:30. They make you pay again. It's so hookie with the hours. They charge everybody who walks in the door even if your not swimming. All this for a pool that is absolutely jam packed seems a bit unreasonable. After yesterdays debacle we will not be back. So crowded I couldn't even find a small spot in the water to wade with my daughter. This place is odd. read more

I'm a lap swimmer and try to make it to Mounger during summer in the afternoons or the weekends. While I'm not squeamish, I started to really hate coming here on Sundays after a really hot Saturday because the pool would literally sheen with spf and it felt pretty gross to get out and feel all oily.
