It is frequently closed off for High School /Master's Swim Team/ Water Polo. It is a "public facility" with far too few truly "public use" hours. That's how tax dollars are siphoned off for certain classes of people - we all pay but only a few reap the benefits. When I had a knee injury and could not exercise, I was able to use the hot water spa, the steam room, and this made me feel better. I have used the deep water pool for their "Water Aerobics" class as well as just water walking for relaxation and meditation. When available the cooler water pool at the rear of the facility is wonderful for lap swimming. It is usually not available in the evenings due to High School water polo. The "family pool" or Don Nakata Pool is warmer and it's okay for lap swimming but far too shallow and broad and only 3 lanes truly for laps. The cost is quite high $11 per drop in if you are an island resident. However, the lockers and showers are well kept if a little dated. Ongoing renovation work through 2025 and 2026 further restrict hours.

Numerous times either the instructor refuses to come to work or my son is sent home. My son work nights. So, the inappropriate absence of one of the Aquatic's swim teacher is unacceptable. We even get emails to pay more money to BAINBRIDGE ISLAND AQUATIC CENTER. If the instructor is not there, why should she get paid? This place needs to be IRS inspected for "ripping off" customers . Where does my money go? Clearly, it is not used for swim lessons.

The con for this pool is that the initial viewing of it is dark reddish brown bottom gives the appearance of a dirty pool. The facilities are clean, well-maintained, and clearly designed with competitive swimming in mind. The water temperature is on the cooler side, but it's perfect for performance swimming. The size of the facility is another major advantage, allowing it to accommodate 10-lane swim meets while still providing plenty of space for swimmers and spectators. Overall, this is one of my favorite swimming facilities in the Puget Sound area. I would choose this pool over almost any other major aquatic center in the region. Whether you're competing at a meet or just visiting the facility, it's a fantastic place to swim.

Spectating had a unique set-up for the northern division pools. One could stand on the pool and watch, but there was also a multi-level building with a balcony one could stand on as well as a bleacher area by a grassy lawn located up some stairs from the pool deck. The grassy area might not have been huge, but it was large enough to have some space to spread out during dual meets. During division-wide/league-wide meets (such as prelims, Northern Division, or All-City), the space was more cramped, but still large enough to get a small area. Concessions and ribbons were housed upstairs at the building, which was nice especially on dreary days. Restrooms were on the bottom level of the building and could be reached from stairs by the building or via the pool deck. The pool was on the cooler side and had slippery tiles. That was something our coaches emphasized for us to practice during warm-up - turns without slipping. Parking near the building was quick to go during meets, so getting to the pool tended to include a bit of a walk. Though, since that was the norm, it was easy to plan ahead.
