There may only be one machine for specific muscles so you have to wait or may not get a chance at all to use. In fairness some of this is made worse by inconsiderate patrons. On the contrary they have far too many exercise bikes. It feels dirty in some areas, especially the sauna. After requesting a thorough cleaning of the sauna a staff member blew me off. When asking staff how to properly use a machine you are met with further indifference. The piped in music is awful. My understanding is that this is a franchise and the owner doesn't seem to care about his business.

The lack of reinforcing safety, lack of knowing policy and the unkindness I have experienced from…read morethe staff here... is through the roof. When I joined I was simply told what my ten passes got me access to and what it didn't and handed the schedule. My PT has required me to use both a hot tub and do laps and stretching to help heal my lower back and hip problems and prevent surgery. Rainier Beach was closest to my home that had both, and 6 passes in, I've always been waved through and been given two wristbands--one for hot tub, one for laps because PT orders--on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, only time I can come. Tonight they let me randomly know that they would be charging me two passes at a time if I needed this therapy routine--I would be double-charged from here on to treat my injury. I told them then since this was the only pool with the facilities I needed for healing, and couldn't use other Seattle centers, I would need a refund. The supervisor seemed very proud to let me know that I could talk to their management about it, but they probably won't give me one. No apologies, nothing that sounded like sorry for the miscommunication that was going to take more of your money than you signed up for and were informed of. Just the appearance of: yeah that's not gonna happen, like they were better than me. This was the final straw though, where, refund or not, I cannot go back. The first issue I had was my second time there ever, where a male swimmer I was sharing lanes with kept tapping me, getting too close and came up fast behind me and ran into my feet. It scared me, so I asked the lifeguard to reinforce rules. She made an excuse for him when he wouldn't listen. This was not a teen swimming; he was about 6'5. So instead of doing her job by reinforcing the rule, the lifeguard said "there are lanes over there," for me to move instead of him. I didn't let it slide though, but then it just got worse while I was trying to stand up for myself. I went to other staff members and a supervisor. Next thing I knew they were all standing around in a circle, excluding me, in silence, like they hoped it would fizzle out. They just stood there, together, quietly, and the issue of my not feeling safe suddenly didn't seem to exist to them. I couldn't believe what this looked like from the staff, overall (maybe misogyny and group stonewalling...?). I confronted them again, this time saying I couldn't believe they were not tending to this. They seemed to finally realize this wasn't going to go away. So what did they do?: One of them went to the man and had HIM take care of it. They didn't enforce the rules, they went to him shrugging and forced me to talk to the man face to face, instead of enforcing personal boundaries I was asking for. He luckily was extremely apologetic, but he also didn't know what to do because-you guessed it- IT WASNT HIS JOB. It was THEIRS. His apology helped, but obviously I was so freaked out I needed to speak to the person in charge to let them know their staff didn't know how to handle these situations and how unsafe this was. And... it just got EVEN worse. This person in charge literally asked me to show him the rules posted by the pool like he had never seen them before. I READ THEM TO HIM. Folks, I was in so much shock, I think my IQ dropped that moment. I knew right then that as a single woman, maybe a woman in general, I was not safe there. And if I came back I would have to constantly be on edge. He kept gaslighting me and his argument was that the man had apologized and that a brush or an "accidental touch" was not a big deal. He also avoided any professional apologies himself. They had the swimmer do all the work for them. I've already been persevering every time I go back after that instance, always watching over my shoulder in case, but after tonight now they want extra money I don't have that was never explained nor before implemented- because of a routine I need for preventing surgery.. It's not a choice--I CANNOT go back. For dignity and a sense of safety. And offering another location is no excuse for this disrespect for folks who are just trying to take care of themselves. I'll miss it; it's beautiful~only reason not 1 star.

My friends and I decided to visit Colman Pool one summer day. You actually have to hike 10-15…read moreminutes to get to the pool because it's located along the water, and is a little far away from the parking lot. I didn't mind the walk because the park was nicely maintained and I enjoyed the hike. There was a somewhat long line that we waited in for like 10-15 minutes. There are separate lines for buying the ticket, and another line for ticket holders to wait to get inside of the locker/pool. Once the gate opened to the locker, the line went pretty fast which was nice. The pool is big and is divided into a few lap lanes and a float around area. Lap lanes are organized by how fast you're going. The slowest lane is a safe bet if there are a lot of people in other lanes. I initially went for the second slowest lane because the slowest was crowded, but had to change lanes quickly because people were swimming so fast even in the second slowest lane! I think how fast you have to go in the second lane depends a lot on who is swimming and setting the speed. 20 minutes later, everyone left the lap lanes so there are definitely pockets of time where you can take as much time and space as you want in the lap lane. Another thing that's really nice about the pool is that you can bring in a lot of stuff with you to the poolside. Like food, sunglasses, books, etc. Coming from Astoria pool in NYC where you can barely bring in anything except towels, my friends and I were pretty excited about it.

This particular morning was beautiful and the vibe was great- some youth classes and all lap swim, with visitors also hanging out on the deck enjoying the sun - reminded me a lot of how it was in LA when lap swimming :) Parking is up at Lincoln Park, a 10 minute walk along the water or though the woods of the park. This is a meters pool so keep that in mind thats is a long course pool and filled with heated, filtered saltwater pumped directly from Puget Sound, which is a different type of experience (& works wonders w curly hair!) . Pool equipment is available for visitors and if you plan on staying longer than the allotted time, they will have you pay again if staying on deck. Locker rooms are well kept and the building gives away the history of the pool and location.

My kids like it because it has a 3 foot deep shallow end so even when the kids are very small, they can stand with their head above the water. And there are diving boards in the deep end which is something you can't find at all of the pools. The lifeguards and swim instructors are all relatively friendly, and they don't have a million rules, so it's a fun place for free swim. However, the majority of the lifeguards are very young. I personally don't have a ton of faith in a 17-year-old being able to keep my child safe in a pool, so I watch them every second myself. The reason for two stars is the lessons. This is our primary reason for going to the pool, and the lessons are awful. They divide the children up by age, and then divide that age group into three skill levels. If your child's skill level is outside the predicted skill level for their age group, they will never be taught where they're at. All of my children have been swimming independently by age 3-4, but there is no opportunity for independent swimming in this age group at Southwest Community Center pool. The kids are expected to stay in the shallow end, touching the wall, and they will be learning the very basics. Once the kids turn six, they are allowed to move up into a higher age range of kids who are 6 to 12, but if you have a younger children, they will take one look at them and put them in the lowest level, even if they swim better than the oldest kid in the pool. If by some chance, your six-year-old gets put into a group with 10 to 12-year-olds, they will be expected to understand instructions that are given at a 10 to 12-year-old level. There is no consideration for the differences in communication or maturity level of a six-year-old vs an older child. We have given this pool years of opportunities to improve the structure of their lessons and they have only gotten worse and worse. My personal recent experience is that I have a six-year-old who can easily pass a swim test and swim in the 12' deep end. She will spend an hour and a half before her lesson swimming in the deep end, jumping in, treading water, diving to the bottom, doing the backstroke, swimming freestyle... but as soon as free swim ends, and her lesson begins, she is put in a group of little kids who are practicing blowing bubbles and are kept on an extremely short leash with no opportunity for actual swimming. All I get from them is "Sorry, this is how we do things." They don't care. So if your child is a very early swimmer, or a very typical swimmer for their age, you might get something out of this pool for a year. But once your child starts making progress, they will be held back. The last big strike against them is management. Like I said before, the lifeguards and the instructors are all pretty young, but friendly. However, there's always one or two people in charge who have an absolutely horrible attitude. For some reason, they seem to attract managers who are on a big power trip. There was an older woman who worked there for the last decade who was an absolute terror, and when she left, they just replaced her with a male version who is no better. I don't understand it, but nothing will ever change if they have management who doesn't care and won't listen. Their priority does not seem to be teaching kids to swim. It appears to be filling up the classes with bodies as quickly as possible, and then stringing them along for years to make as much money as possible.

Now--YEARS LATER I've been getting Google security notifications about some website called "SportsMotion". But I never set up an account--I can't access the account. I can't close the account--but it exists. Then I start getting credit card notifications from Sports Motion. It turns out--it was LakeRidge Swim Club. They couldn't be bothered to get back to me until I mean screed their facebook with a "WTF are you doing with my cc info" post. At which point they explained that somehow my cc info got attached to a water polo sign up. I didn't sign my kid up for water polo--I was pissed af that they charged me to pick them up from the pool. Why in God's name would I go back? So...how did my.cc info get attached to someone trying to sign up for water polo? Sue, the office manager at Lakeridge Swim Club very smugly messaged me back that she doesn't know because she closed my account for me after I finally got someone to acknowledge my existence through Facebook. I'm going to have to go to my bank to look through past charges to see how much these jerks grifted out of me without me knowing about it. Who signs someone's kid up for water polo--doesn't tell the parent--and then takes that parents cc info that they got from them UNDER DURESS and then uses it??? So...these guys are skeezy, greedy and shady af. Stay tf away.

There is no regard to folk who have regular memberships who come here to swim. The directors and lifeguards prioritize folks who pay for lessons and classes. If you're a regular ymca member just know that lessons and group classes in the lap pool are not communicated through the app or through thorough signage Been coming here for 8month and only continue to do so because I have a back injury and I have to swim daily for mobility.
