Visited Rainier Beach Pool recently for a family friends birthday. The newly turned five year old Birthday girl requested a Mermaid themed pool party! Yay! But.... the party is in January. In Seattle. Little kids don't care that it's 45 degrees outside and raining off and on. Enter the Rainier Beach Pool. Centrally located in South Seattle - the Rainier Beach Pool was a great party choice with family and friends coming from Tacoma, Shoreline, Bellevue, West Seattle, etc. it just seemed like the perfect meet-in-the-middle spot for all. And there's a pool! The pool is a little tricky to find- or maybe it's just me that drove past it the first time accidentally. It's a big building and easily seen from the road, but it's located between two schools and to me it looked like part of the school buildings. Add to this the sign at the street is easy to miss on a sunny day. My advice: look for the high school driveway and turn in. The high school will be on the right and the pool is on the left as you drive in the parking lot down the middle. Community pool swim is about an hour at a time. Which doesn't sound like a long time - but after an hour everyone was ready for snacks and a nap! Ha! The pool has two main areas: a larger more traditional lap pool with lanes and a large family pool with sections for toddler wading, a small lazy river and a big tube slide into "the deep end" (which is only like 4ft deep maybe.) The pool party was on the family pool side. After swim time and getting cleaned up and changed in the locker room across the hall- we headed to the party room. It's next to the pool with views of the water and slide. So you're still in the pool area but not actually in the pool. Great for continuing the fun mermaid swimming theme. The community center supplies tables, chairs and a kitchenette with a large fridge in the party room. But it's definitely a bring your own food and beverage situation. Check with the front desk to borrow the heavy duty plastic cart for packing and unpacking party supplies from the car. All and all it was a fun afternoon for everyone! Thank you Rainier Beach Pool for making childhood mermaid pool party dreams come true for Seattle kids even in the middle of winter!

This is a great location for swim lessons for my pre-k daughter. I agree with the previous poster about limited time with each child but for the price it's totally worth it. My daughter enjoys being in the water with the other kids and overall, it's working for us for sure. We started with the tot and parent classes- took 2- then moved on to the bigger kid lessons and took 3 sessions so far. She's comfortable in the water, loves the instructors and has a basic understanding of swimming overall. One on one is a good next step but for a great activity once a week- conveniently timed as well- I think it's a great deal.

No towels provided. Crowded locker rooms during busy kid times. Really awkward hours and not consistent with their website. Great pool.

Now--YEARS LATER I've been getting Google security notifications about some website called "SportsMotion". But I never set up an account--I can't access the account. I can't close the account--but it exists. Then I start getting credit card notifications from Sports Motion. It turns out--it was LakeRidge Swim Club. They couldn't be bothered to get back to me until I mean screed their facebook with a "WTF are you doing with my cc info" post. At which point they explained that somehow my cc info got attached to a water polo sign up. I didn't sign my kid up for water polo--I was pissed af that they charged me to pick them up from the pool. Why in God's name would I go back? So...how did my.cc info get attached to someone trying to sign up for water polo? Sue, the office manager at Lakeridge Swim Club very smugly messaged me back that she doesn't know because she closed my account for me after I finally got someone to acknowledge my existence through Facebook. I'm going to have to go to my bank to look through past charges to see how much these jerks grifted out of me without me knowing about it. Who signs someone's kid up for water polo--doesn't tell the parent--and then takes that parents cc info that they got from them UNDER DURESS and then uses it??? So...these guys are skeezy, greedy and shady af. Stay tf away.

BI Aquatics has been a mental health gift...a place to relax and unwind. My beef with this place…read moreis that it doesn't have sufficient hours for lap swimming at convenient times. It is frequently closed off for High School /Master's Swim Team/ Water Polo. It is a "public facility" with far too few truly "public use" hours. That's how tax dollars are siphoned off for certain classes of people - we all pay but only a few reap the benefits. When I had a knee injury and could not exercise, I was able to use the hot water spa, the steam room, and this made me feel better. I have used the deep water pool for their "Water Aerobics" class as well as just water walking for relaxation and meditation. When available the cooler water pool at the rear of the facility is wonderful for lap swimming. It is usually not available in the evenings due to High School water polo. The "family pool" or Don Nakata Pool is warmer and it's okay for lap swimming but far too shallow and broad and only 3 lanes truly for laps. The cost is quite high $11 per drop in if you are an island resident. However, the lockers and showers are well kept if a little dated. Ongoing renovation work through 2025 and 2026 further restrict hours.

It was one of our further destinations for competition and we took the ferry for our competition(s). There was a little anticipation that the center would underwhelm considering the trek needed to get here, however we found it to be a nice water polo venue. The interior had warm ambiance vibes and ample space for both teams and our bags. The water was temperate - neither too cold nor too warm - and there was good ventilation/air flow. It was one of the more memorable away venues from my two seasons as part of the team.
